So I got the call Thursday that my surgery was approved and scheduled for the 27th of Feb YAY! Truth is- I am as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.... Im 43 let myself go from being a 145 5'8 33 year old who never had a weight problem baloon into a 260 pound 43 year old. And now It has to come to this. I am excited to see what I look like after all this comes off..will my face be full of wrinkles now that I have no more fat? Will all my hair fall out? Will I turn into a raging alcoholic? ( thats one of the big warnings) Will I still be hungry? How will I comfort myself when I am stressed out or my worse eating trigger...exhaustion. These t…

I'm 5'9" and was sleeved on November 14 weighing 235 pounds. This morning I weighed 175. A weight loss of 60 pounds in just over 3 months and I could not be happier. Just after Xmas my partner bought tickets to take me to see Jersey Boys and tonight was the night. This morning he said 8 fatal words, "would you like to go out for dinner". Well, that sounded lovely and as the theatre is near China Town I thought it was perfect because we could share and I could just eat my regular portions. I had my new slim leg black pants, a red lace top and I went out today and bought red shoes and red clutch to match. I have to admit I looked damned good when I was ready to go …

Its been 8 months since my surgery (June 27th). I have been struggling this whole time to see my weight loss, and I've struggled with some pretty obnoxious plateaus that has me battling my mental demons that would cave and fall on old habits of defeat. I've started feeling really remotivated. I looked around at before and after pictures of folks here. I looked around on Pinterest as various weight loss blogs, and fitness sites, and woke myself back up. I got a wrangle in on my eating habits again, and cleaned that up, and am back to my hard core workouts after a 3 week hiatus. I was feeling pretty good this morning. I still can't weigh myself at home, because I've …

Wow! I am craving very specific food with great detail. (i.e: Olive & Canadian Bacon Calzone from Lampost; Eggs Benedict from the Hyatt; etc...). However, I am still on a liquid diet. I was thinking that this is psychological. Perhaps "Taste Memories" are meshing with cravings? Anyway, my plan is to find super yummy substitutions that are healthier.

I feel great and wouldn't trade it for nothing. Im glad I decided to get rid of my baby fat and turn into a tone chocolate goddess(stroking my ego). Congratulations to everyone who made the choice to change their image.

So I haven't posted yet as I am gun shy of saying too much and nothing coming of it. This happened to me last Summer when it seemed like I was going to get banded. Then at the point of starting the few pre-op things I was supposed to do, screeching halt because my insurance quit paying for lap band as the success rate for long term was questionable. But there wasn't a surgeon or surgery center/hospital near me that offered RNY and took my insurance. So I figured that I would just have to do it on my own. I dropped 30 lbs, yeah that's wonderful, but it took me about 6 months, which isn't normal by any means. I had just about given up on this whole thing when the town I use…

:PHi Ladies and Gents, as a disclaimer i must tell that english is not my first language, please sorry for all the typos and errors that you will find. About 4 months ago my mom, very worried told me that she felt that i was more fat than ever and my health as a result of that its in very danger situation and she watch a tv show a person who lost a lot with bariatrics. Ive been so excited about my new journey date approaching (march 22) . Ive had 2 goals for quite a long time. 1. I do not want to be fat at my sons graduation (dec 2013) and I want to be fab at 50. (LOL) I will be banded March 22, that's 4 days after my 49 birthday. I must admit Im excited and scared. The excitement of course is self explaining. Scared because I am reading so much about how people crash emotionally post op. Please, I like my doctor and his staff but I haven't really been explained much. Please everyone share your experience and knowledge with me. Thanks in advance!! This site is GREAT !!!

Hi Everyone, I am 6 weeks post op and have lost 60 lbs total this is count the 10lbs I lost before the surgery, Dr Miller was my Dr. he is a great man and loved his care before and after my surgery! That said for whatever reason I had the worst recovery that I could think could ever happen not from anything he did! I woke up with server back spasms that last for over two weeks this was the most painful part of the whole thing I had such a hard time with it that I had to take the max amount of Pain meds every 4 hours!!! Needless to say after the pain left I stopped taking pain meds and for two weeks after I still could smell and taste them, I hope I never have to have …

I've been on clear liquids since surgery Monday morning. I had my first protein drink today, and then went to lay down. Oh my gosh, I felt like I had a monster in my tummy kicking and punching like crazy! Plus it was growling at me! It didn't hurt, but was strange. It finally calmed down, but wow! My tummy is still real swollen, and I look 9 months pregnant. Whenever I get up, I have to "hold" my tummy even with my binder on. Letting it hang just hurts. Anyone relate?

I remember years ago when I was dating my husband I felt compelled to tell him that I was really a fat girl in a temporarily thin body! Previous to meeting him I had dieted and exercised my way down 100 pounds! He didn't care and still doesn't and we are happily married even though my prediction came true!! I am so excited to get sleeved and to lose this weight hopefully for the last time but I wonder if I will always self identify as a fat girl in a temporarily thin body??? Does anyone else have worries like this?
-
I was sleeved on Monday, I feel great, but finding it hard to get in my protein. My Dr has me on clears until next Tues!! I'm desperate to try something a little thicker!!! They said I shouldn't have protein shakes until next week.

My name is Nicole, 45 yrs old, 250 lbs. My heaviest ever. I've struggled with my weight since my early 20's. I was diagnosed with MS in 2004 and since then have put on weight consistently. I kept telling myself "by my next birthday..." Well, many birthdays have come and gone. I started thinking about surgery a year and a half ago and my insurance would have paid for it, but the criteria was near to impossible to meet. I have since gained a terrific job with 'Cadillac' insurance that will cover it easily. The final straw was that my knees are shot, my mobility is like an 80 year old at times, I now have sleep apnea and have to use a CPAP. Portion control has always bee…

Hi all. Never thought I'd need a forum like this but here I am. 5'10", 285 lbs, uncontrolled type 2, lipids off the charts, sleep apnea, asthmatic, high blood pressure and the beginnings of neuropathy in my feet. Decided on the surgery May, 2012. After fighting with the insurance they finally approved it and I'm now 2 weeks out. I've been told to start the liquid diet and lose the 10 lbs. before surgery. After being so frustrated over the battle with the insurance company and now realizing this is actually going to happen I'm starting to get anxious and a little scared. I'm not that impressed with the support I've gotten out of the surgeon's office/staff so far and kno…

Hello, I have finally decided that I NEED the gastric sleeve after a lifetime of dieting...getting to my goal weight and then putting it all back on again! A workmate and his wife, who had the proceedure were kind enough to share their experiences with me. I have taken the bull by the horns and decided on my surgeon and have now commenced the pre surgery process. My surgeon doesn't have any free appointments for a first visit until September this year!! What does that tell you about the obesity epidemic LOL. So I am now just getting things done so if he has a cancellation I am well placed. It's hard waiting now I have made the decision...I want it NOW, but I am also a li…

**I would like to preface this by saying that the story may be long, but I have been on this sight for about 3 months and have yet to post anything substantial. I loved reading peoples in-depth stories and wanted to share mine the same way. Take what you will My journey actually began 3 short months ago when my parents confronted both my younger sister and I about having the surgery. My mother was overweight and has RnY gastric bypass in 2003 and it completely changed her life, and ours, for the better. My parents saw us going down the same path and did not wish for us to have that kind of lifestyle. Having said that, there were times in my life I was fit and heal…

My name is April. I'm 30 years old, have been married 11 1/2 years and have 5 children. About four years ago I thought about surgery. I started the process. I sat through the seminar, filled out the paperwork, got my pcp referral along with all the necessary blood work and treadmill stress test, had my first surgeon appointment and passed my psych-eval. However, I didn't go through with the surgery. Why? A couple reasons come to mind: 1) the psychiatrist asked me why I was doing this. I was only at 245 and she said I was much smaller than most who do the surgery; 2) I had at that point mainly considered it for the emotional and cosmetic part of the deal. I wanted to be TH…

Hello all. I'm new to the group. I stumbled across this site via a google search and knew this is just what I needed. I've thought about WLS for the past couple years but always let others talk me out of it (people who have no weight issues and certainly couldn't understand what I go through). Well I'm tired of being tired and tired of being unhappy and feeling like I have no control over my life. I'm scheduled for my 1st seminar this Saturday and hope all goes well because I am super excited to get back to me. I live in the Chicago, IL area and have Cigna insurance. So if anyone out there has any tips, suggestions, etc. I can sure use it. I have read so many encouraging …

Hello everyone! I am a 32 year old married woman from Warren, Ohio. I am currently going to school to become an occupational therapy assistant (OTA) and have 2 more semester to complete. In the meantime I am a cashier at Sam's club. I began my journey with the sleeve in July 2011 by attending a seminar on the different weight loss surgeries available given by Dr. Ben-Meir of St Vincent Charity Hopsital. From that point on I knew this was something I wanted to do it was just finding the funding. I went home and discussed everything I had learned with my husband, who was on board until he found out the cost. In the next few weeks I did some research to find out what …

Today is my 3rd day of pre-op and I'm doing ok. I've been battling a slight headache but nothing more. I will tell everyone that WALKING is THE BEST way to pass the air through your body after surgery. My only pain is my large incision where my stomach was removed so I can't stand upright completely but it don't stop me from trying a little bit everyday. My 1oz. sips of Water is super yummy and I will FOREVER be grateful for it. I thought I was gonna lose my mind when I couldn't have water for 24hrs. I recommend the following for everyone for before & after surgery: Pack your bag for the hospital and then unpack all the reading stuff because you're gonna sleep a…

Hi All, I rarely come on the forums anymore. It seems that, once I got past the really tough times with my band to sleeve revision I just drifted away. Anyway, I realized that I will be 2 years post-revision in a couple of weeks and I should probably report in and let the newbies know about my experience. If you want to know specifics about my surgery, you can look through my profile posts - it is hard for me to remember all the details now. I had a lap band for 4 years and it sucked. I got my lap band at 215 pounds and ended up at about 195 pounds and was gaining slowly on top of that. I couldn't eat chicken (did I mention the band SUCKED?). I wanted the band…

I've been on my pre-op diet for 4 weeks and three days. I'm really having trouble today. I'm craving carbs REALLY bad. I haven't felt like this since the first week. I'm getting really frustrated. I have 15 more lbs to be below 50.0 BMI, which is required by my surgeon before my April 1st surgery date. I see my WLS team march 19th for my all day class and another weigh in. I'm so frustrated!! I do 30 minutes of aerobics everyday and it seems the past 2 days have been the worse. Anyone else having problems?

and petrified is not an understatement. Here's my story. I've been "big" my whole life, but it wasn't until I was in my late 20s that I entered the obese/morbidly obese categories. I've had moderate success with Weight Watchers, but haven't been able to maintain. At one point, I was able to get down to 197, but that was short lived. Now I'm 41, 5'6", 274, BMI 45.4, and "pre" everything you can think of. While I've been contemplating weight loss surgery for some time (and have some excellent role models), it wasn't until last month when I was convinced that I was having a heart attack (really the onset of a migraine) that I decided I needed to talk with my doctor. …

I'm Chris. I'm 50 years old. I had my vertical sleeve gastrectomy last Tuesday, February 12, on my 50th birthday - my present to myself lol! Here's my story. I've been overweight all my life, and have dieted 'successfully' several times, losing up to 83 pounds at a time. But each time, I'd eventually fall off the wagon and gain back everything I lost, and then some. I never even considered surgery for a moment - after all, I knew I was able to diet successfully, I just had to find a way to stick to it. I have two children, both of whom are also overweight. When I realized last Spring that my 18-year-old son now outweighed me (I was 450 lbs!) I knew something had to …

I am a week away from being 3 months post-op. I have had no complications & have been following my program minus my bread incident earlier today. As if Tuesday I am down 61 lbs. The past few weeks every time that I get on the scale I am super happy...for about 10 minutes. Then I start getting anxiety & feeling depressed. I don't know why. At my surgeon's office visit last week they said that I am right on track with what they expect in regards to weight loss. I have been losing weight regularly. I am down 3 sizes & don't have to shop online anymore. I have so much more energy. So, why the anxiety & depression? Anyone else feeling like this?

Hi, I am new at this. I have been going to all appointments so they can submit the case to insurance. Tomorrow Friday 22, I will Be going to see psych for clearance. This is what basically determines everything. I am pretty nervous. This is my story. I have been overweight all of my Life. I have utilized everything that you can purchase and more. 3 years ago I lost weight. I went from 240 to 195 going to the gym and starvation. It worked but as salon as I quit starvation. I gained all the weight back. I have decided to get the gastric sleeve even though I don't have the support of my family. They think I am beautiful the way I am and also think that I will not be abl…

My first post here. I've been reading a lot though and these forums helped finalize my decision so thank you! My story is pretty simple... always been fat. born 12 lbs, 24" long. I don't have one memory stored of looking down and not seeing a belly. After years of depression and excuses and up and down I decided I had to do something drastic. I was sleeved by doctor Aceves on Feb 14. My weight the day before my surgery was 445 lbs. I actually carried my 400+ quite well which is probably why I let it go on for so damn long... Today, I'm already down to 432 lbs. I did not expect things to go this fast. I already notice a difference in my energy level and ha…

Hello all Just wanted a quick Hi howdy dos. I have not had the surgery but have an appointment on Monday the 7th. I was basically told to do this because my medical condition. I have type 2 diabetes and was put on insulin in June after I had pancreatitis. While I was doing real well with my oral meds, lost 46 lbs and was very active, insulin has screwed everything up. I've regained all the weight even though I'm still eating the same way but I guess with insulin you'd have eat a lot less. So both my endocrinologist and primary care doc want me to have this done. I'm not sure but I'm going to see the doc on Monday. I've struggled with my weight all my…

I feel drained, its sucking all the life out of me waiting for an answer. I want to get prepared for WLS but I can't get excited until I hear that I am APPROVED. I have been silently lurking around this forum for quite some time. Finally late last year, I decided it is time to act. I am scheduled to be sleeved next Wednesday, January 30th. I am nervous but optimistic. I am a 40 y/o female, 5 feet 7 inches and 274 lbs at weigh-in two weeks ago. At yesterday's physical, I was 264 lbs.I am hoping this surgery gives me the tools and a kick-start of sorts to get some control back into managing my weight. I may not post often, but all of your stories have truly inspired me and I am grateful to have found this site.
