Just went to the seminar today. Going to Dr. Feiz. A great Dr. They are very thorough and answered all of my questions. My insurance pays 100%. I have BCBS of Illinois. UPS. Even though the dr is out of network the dr excepts whatever the insurance will pay. If I can get all of my prerequisites done I can have my surgery within a month!! So excited!!

I was banded in Dec. Since than I lost about twenty lbs. I still experience hunger despite having had my first fill. How soon after a fill is appropriate to request another. Im getting frustrated and starting to pick between meals. I don't think I've ever felt restriction.

I met with my surgeon today. It was my last appointment before surgery! I have read so much about people having to do a pre-op diet for 2 weeks. My doctors said that the diet only shrinks your liver a little bit. He said he used to make his patients do the diet but then he tried the diet and it was awful so he doesn't make his patients do the diet anymore. Does anyone else not have to do a pre-op diet?

Hi I am new. I just started my new journey last November. I love reading all the topics I have learned a lot today. I don't have a surgery date yet. I went for my last appointment yesterday and now the bariatric group will discuss if I am a candidate or not. Then I will should get an appointment to meet the surgeon. My sisters are worried about the surgery . I told them to stop focusing on the surgery but on the fact that I am going to do a major change to improve my life. I find a lot of people that I have told are not supportive and then a lot are. I decided to stop talking about the surgery because of the negative responses. My husband is supportive but he doesn'…

Hi! I can't believe it! I have always been self- conscious about snoring! Have turned down girls weekend get-a-ways just because of that reason. Had sleep apnea and given a CPAP machine before surgery (don't like it). Before surgery, 322 lbs.. Down 30 lbs. Now, waking up with energy I have NEVER had before and NO MORE SNORING!!

Hi all! I'm 27 years old, 250lbs and 5'2 with a bmi of 46. I have PCOS and my surgery date is 2-18-13. I'm worried that maybe I should go for the bypass instead. I really would prefer the sleeve because of malabsorption issues and the whole re-routing thing scares me. I'm afraid the sleeve isn't restrictive enough and that I'm not going to lose the weight. I am a serious carb addict and PCOS makes everything so much harder. I am working on my eAting issues but truthfully, I'm afraid the sleeve will allow me to cheat too easily. I need honesty! HELP!

I was sleeved on Jan. 10, 2013. I have had virtually no bad experiences since then. I got up today hoping to normalize my schedule as I return to work on Monday. So, first on my list was protein. I got up, had about 2 oz of protein fortified Greek yogurt then waited thirty minutes to begin drinking 8oz of water. My goal was to get this water in. I did, had my vitamin and crushed med. That last sip of water and multivitamin seemed to do me in. I started feeling the nausea. Shortly afterwards I threw up. I haven't done anything different. I started puree yesterday, but tolerated it all well. The yogurt went down fine. I am just confused. I don't feel bad. I am j…

Well I have made it through the first month after surgery, YAH! I had a fill two weeks ago and I am still hungry, and not sure what I can eat. All the paperwork says I can start adding foods in slowly but it is scary. I had scrambled eggs that did not want to stay down a few days ago so I'm very casuist. My family is very supportive but they just don't understand. Thanks for letting me vent.

I track everything on MFP. I was sleeved on Jan 7th and I started at 250. I was only able to eat (drink) between 400 and 500 calories per day until this week. I started the week at 233. I have increased my calorie intake to 800 calories per day and I've increased my protein intake significantly. I'm still not getting 80 grams, but it is much more than I was getting before. Today I am 2 pounds heavier. Could eating 800 calories per day cause me to gain since my body was used to 500?

I am planning on using Dr Michael King in Oxford. I go to the first seminar Feb 11th. I was wondering what to expect! I spoke with my insurance company and they suggests I go ahead and start my 6 month diet. So I'm joining Weight Watchers Tuesday. She told me It would work as long as insane my Dr 3 times for a weigh in during that 6 month time frame. What are somethings I need to work on during this phase. I was going to try and not drink while I eat. I see that is something I will have to do, and I drink alot. Dt Pepsi and Water. Anyhoo, besides that, what would be good for me to be doing?

Hi Everyone! This is my first time posting. I had to do the 6 months (well 7 months) of weight loss/visits with PCP for my insurance. I have my last visit on the 29th of this month. I have all my "pre-op" testing done (labs, chest xray, upper GI), just have to do my last dietary appt (2/1) and psych eval (2/4) and send it off to insurance. I am hoping to get banded beginning of March. I work as a float nurse and sometimes go to our weight management clinic so I work with our lap band patients. I am familiar with many things about the band but of course since this is happening to ME I am nervous but so excited to be on here!!

I'm done with all the necessary requirements. Had my psych eval today. They are going to submit to my insurance next week. One thing I don't have is a letter from my Pcp. I asked my insurance coordinator and she said I didn't need it. Wish me luck. I have Aetna and my BMI is 46 I have high blood pressure and severe sleep apnea I should get approved no problem.

I can not believe that it was two months ago I took the first steps of this journey and now I'm just looking at two and half weeks before surgery. I have been following this site and finally have the courage to post. I have not wavered in my decision at all but worry about recovery. How long will I be unable to do physical work? I am a teacher but have a cleaning job on the side. Thank you all for sharing your personal stories on here.

Today was the last month of my 3 month visits. I have lost 13 pounds since my first visit Oct 31. I cut out Beer and changed my eating not by much tho. I only have my seminar on Jan 24 and my psych Evaluation which is next Wednesday. Once these are complete they will submit to insurance. I have Aetna and I'm kinda worried about my approval. My BMI is 46 I have high blood pressure and severe sleep apnea. One thing about Aetna I have noticed by reading these post that if your paper work is correct they won't deny you. Can anyone give me pointers on the psych evaluation on what to expect?

I am 5 months post op. I started my journey at my heaviest weight of 235 lbs, and 5'6". My weight loss has been on the slower end, compared to some, but steady nonetheless. Here is a "before" picture, in a very unflattering dress, and a couple of progress shots. I am now 12lbs lighter than the most recent picture in red. My journey has been complication free. I can eat 4 ounces or so at a meal, and starches are not my friend! I avoid bread and pasta. I workout with weights 3 times a week (my trainer gives me a weekly routine) and I do cardio on the other days. I have only vomited once, when I was mindlessly eating and did not notice I was full. That never happened …

Hi everyone. What an experience this has been. I was banded on December 20, 2012 after losing 10lbs on the preop diet. I don't get my first fill until Jan. 30 and I'm looking forward to it. I know this journey won't be easy but the ends do justify the means and I'm working really hard to shed the weight. Sorry if I sound like I'm rambling but I just wanted to say hi.

OK I just have to share. This is a very small victory but a victory still. I have been on my pre op diet since January 16th and its been going pretty well. I figured I made it past the hardest part with great success so it should be smooth sailing until banding on the 30th. WRONG!! yesterday I was craving everything... ice cream, pizza, chocolate, you name it I wanted it. My son had m&m's and I considered just one (what could it hurt right?lol). Now here comes my proud moment.....I MADE IT THROUGH THE WHOLE DAY WITHOUT CHEATING!!! Yaaaay! Like I said....a small victory for most but to me it was like climbing Mt Everest. Today I am back to feeling good about things and…

Hello, everyone! I had RNY in November of 2004. I started at 325 lbs and went down to 190. My goal was to weigh something that started with a "1"! Not long after I'd left the 200s behind, I had to have a hysterectomy. Since then, I've also had 4-5 kidney stones, a broken foot, my gall bladder removed, a hernia repair, 2 knee surgeries, and a root canal. :-) Ok, the root canal has nothing to do with it. Now I have kidney failure and was looking dialysis right in the face. My kidneys went from functioning at 18% to 32% when I stopped taking Advil. (Dialysis starts at 15%.) Since the hysterectomy, I've steadily gained weight. I'm now at 270 and NOTHING will make it …

I had the gastric sleeve October 23, 2012. When I debated about having this surgery I decided if I couldn't conform to all the rules for six months I would never succeed and there was no point in the surgery. So as I jumped through every hoop for my insurance and had to wait their six month wait, I changed everything. No soda, no caffeine, all protein diet, waiting 15 min after liquid for food etc etc etc. I did it all and managed to take hold your breath my 399 lb body down 48 lbs by my surgery date. I had promised myself I would lose 40 and everything else was gravy. I then lost 17 post surgery and I was thinking piece of cake! So now I am down 25 since the post weight …

My surgery is scheduled for January 24 and I am on day one of pre op diet. It was an extrememly difficult decision for me but I just went with it. Although I keep reading how excited everyone is for their upoming surgery. I am not excited at all. I feel frustrated that I have to resort to this and that I can't just do it on my own. Why am I not excited? I don't want to go into this with a negative feeling. I want to results but wish I could get there another way. So frustrated.

I have seen a lot of posts from newbies who are skeptical about this life changing surgery I found something that talks about advantages and disadvantages please share your experience good and bad also how it change your life. I think it will be very helpful for newbies In this procedure, the bariatric (weight loss) surgeon will remove approximately 60 to 80% of the stomach along the greater curvature, leaving only a small tube, or 'sleeve' for the new stomach pouch that extends from the natural stomach opening to the natural stomach outlet (pyloric valve). The procedure helps limit eating by reducing the overall size of the stomach and helps control hunger by removing…

O.k. ladies and gentleman I had my surgery on 21 Jan in Weiden Germany. I was in the hospital for four days. I think that was the worst part for me. I got a liter of water in me the day after and have increased the intake everyday since. I got to eat my first "meal" day three. I had to force myself to eat and I'm still doing that. I'm getting 4 to 6 ounces of protein shake down at a time and not finding a "full" feeling, so I'm a little worried about that, time will tell. I read a post somewhere here about burping indicating you're full, so I'm using this as a guide. As far as pain I tolerate a great deal, so I would say I feel something uncomfortable and annoyin…

Hey guys, I looked on this page and others before choosing my doctor, so I figured I would share my experience now that I am done! I know it is a little bit long.....but it is everything I wish I would have known to ease my curiousity I went through Mexico Bariatric Center. Once I filled out the contact request I received an email from CHRISTY - who became my contact person the whole time. She was amazing! She was very friendly, stayed in contact with me frequently, stayed honest throughout, and made me feel like she was in it with me! I actually booked a surgery back in November....bought my ticket.....then chickened out. She did not try and persuade me at all! She …

I am post op 10 days, no problems what so ever. Cleaned out my clothes closet last night sat down n bed around 10pm. Suddenly wracked with the most excruciating pain I have ever had. My left side hurt right where the hip is. Called the bariatric surgeon on call and he just told me to take some of my pain meds. So I called ER and they said come right away cause of recent surgery. 5hrs later 4:00 in morning, I have two Kidney Stones! One passed and one still in Kidney. Plus I got UTI. Anyone else get this after surgery? Never had them before, but DR. says my strict diet change could have caused them.

Hi everyone! My name is Lauren and I am getting banded on Feb 15th, 2013. I haven't told many people because I'm afraid of being judged, and it doesn't help that the few people I have told reacted quite negatively, even my aunt went as far as saying she was going to do whatever she needed to make sure I didn't get this done. I'm 22 years old and I have been overweight my entire life, and both of my parents had to have weight loss surgery (my mom had gastric bypass in 2005 and has lost 110 pounds and my dad had lap band in 2010, but has only lost 40 pounds because he still has poor eating habits). I am very hurt that my friends and family have reacted so negatively towa…

My name is Heather and I am 29 years old. I am 3 years post surgery and I'm still a work in progress... Stating weight was almost 300 lowest was 149. Currently I weigh 163 I'm struggling because my boyfriend loves the happy non dieting me so he cooks. Size is no matter to him but I'm trying to work on it so as not to undo all of my hard work. My new way to balance is to enjoy myself around him while making better choices and sticking to eating a low carb/ fat diet the other days I'm not with him.I've lost five pounds this week and hope to keep succeeding.

I expect to have the surgery in or about June of this year. I should finish the classes my insurance company requires me to take in late April. Now that I've made the commitment to myself to have the surgery, I am really looking forward to it. I've weighed more than I should for the last 16 years, with my weight increasing year by year. I have gained 50 lbs. in the last 9 years. If only that was all I had to lose! Combine that with the roughly 100 lbs. extra pounds I already had, and I have managed to double the weight I weighed all through my twenties. The point that weight loss surgery is only a tool (a common refrain from every health professional I'm encounte…

It's so crazy to think that in only six weeks, the one thing I've struggled with my entire life will no longer rule me...I'm finally going to have the tool I need to rule it. I have a long way to go...but I'm ready for this journey.
