Hi guys! Hope all are well and in good spirits. As for me, i'm super excited. Got a letter from my insurance provider today. I have so many questions, so if anyone can answer, please feel free. I would really appreciate it. 1. The letter says my condition meets the coverage criteria, but is only a predetermination. Does this mean i'm approved?

Hello all! I am a new member and have recently begun my journey to VSG. I met with my surgeon Jan.10th as well as the Bariatrician, and have scheduled appts with the psychologist and dietitian for Jan. 24th. I have to complete six months with the dietitian before my surgery can be scheduled, but I wanted to start as soon as possible with the consults and also start working on changing my eating habits little by little as I approach surgery. I am hoping to be sleeved late July/Early August!! I look forward to sharing this journey with all of you and I am excited for all that have been sleeved and/or will be sleeved.. God bless and Good luck to us all!

Today is my 1st anniversary... I felt it important to share my thoughts on my weight loss journey to help others. In November 2009 I began a six month weight loss program required by my insurance for the lap band procedure. My highest weight was 324 pds. By the end of the six months I weighed 290 pds. However, I seemed to have some conflicts with the doctor and decided it was in my best interest to seek another doctor. Well, time got away from me and it wasn't until 2011 that I again began seeking another doctor. During the process I ran into several individuals who had the lap band surgery that weren't successful. I decided to look at other options and decided the vertic…

Hi I was sleeved on January 10, 2013. I had watched a friend go through a successful gastric bypass. I did my research and felt that the sleeve was a better choice for me. My problem is that I don't know too many sleevers. I am sort of floating out here alone. So, I ended up here at this forum. I am from North Carolina. The whole process has gone smoothly. I started in July and was sleeved last Thursday. I am officially one week out. I feel almost normal. No real pain, except some in my throat from the breathing tube. I am getting my proteins in as well as my fluids. I guess my concern is how my experience is comparing with others. My other concerns -which ma…

Hi everyone my name is Tawana and I'm from Charlotte NC. After almost 8years of consideration I've decided to get gastric bypass surgery. I've struggled with being over weight since I was a small child I can think back to my baby pictures and even then I was over weight. Can't wait to be apart of the losers bench. No date yet but should have one in a few weeks. Hope to receive the much needed support so I can start my new lifestyle. Thanks and hope to meet new friends

I had my surgery on July 18. All seemed well til the day after I got home. My stomache swelled n felt like I swallowed a bowling ball. Called dr n he didn't seem concerned. Ended up in ER and they emptied the band. My dr didn't bother to visit me for any of the five days I spent in the hospital. Lost 20lbs I. That week and not a pound since. Had several fills since am still hungry alm the time. Can eat twice what I should be able to. I feel like this was the worse mistake I've ever made. Am I the only one this completely unhappy and depressed?

I keep telling myself that my body will catch up. Everybody says they can tell I have lost weight maybe I'm losing inches. And also I go through a food sadness cause I wanna eat, but I know I can't !

I am only 4 days out. Starting weight before pre op diet 425lbs. Surgery weight 402 or so. 4 days out (current) weight 397. I am getting all my protein and liquids in and started on pureed foods right from the hospital bed. Gas almost gone. Incisions cause no pain except the main one ( belly button) is still a sore area so have not been taking any pain meds since yesterday. I had 3 tsps of pureed turkey for lunch and 3 tsps of tilapia for dinner and it was equivalent to the best meals i have had.. ( my 3 yr old laughed at me because she is used to me eatinga a whole turkey). I know its still early to brag about any progress but if this post can help anyone out there…

Hello there! So I guess this is where my journey begins... Back in August 2012 I was told by my doctor that my BMI qualifies me to have bariatric surgery. I was so excited to hear such great news, well to me it was great news. All my life I have been overweight and tried many, many times to lose weight with not much success. It took me 5 months to actually pick up the phone and set up an appt to join the first seminar about WLS. I have read so many postings on here (peeping since November) and watched many videos on YouTube and read a bunch of materials online that I've decided to go for it. I have my 1st class on February 8th to learn more about gastric bypass. I have to…

For great support check with your doctor and see if there is a gastric support group around your area. They are a great place to learn and meet other people that have been living with gastric surgery and people that are going to have surgery. They will help you thought the hard times ahead. And there will be hard times when you want to know why you did this.but after you start to lose a lot of weight and you look in the mirror and see how great you look you will wish you had done this years ago. And when friends that you haven't seen in a while see how you look now.its all worth it. Group support will show you how to cook for your family and your self they will offer you…

I've never been happier in my life. I had gastric sleeve surgery June 4,2012. They told me be ready for a life changing experience. I didn't think it would be so impacting so amazing as it has been. Yes ill admit right after surgery I was like what have I done!!?? But trust me that was my love for food talking. Once you start shedding pounds and fitting into smaller clothes you'll feel great. I felt trapped in my body. I couldn't walk up a flight of stairs cause I was out of breath. I couldn't sit in a theatre chair. I couldn't walk around the block to check the mailbox. That's a few of the many things I couldn't do. But now I'm on fire lol anyone who is thinking about ha…

I'm 31 and can't remember EVER being at a healthy weight. I have a 7 yr old that I need to be here for and set a way better example. my family is very supportive and for that I'm grateful! the only health issue I have is hypothyroidism and plantar fasciitis.. Hi, my name is Heather and I am going to get surgery on 1-23-13. I was wondering what else I need to get before surgery and to take to the hospital. The doctor said if everything goes as planned I am only staying 1 night (pray for me,I am scared!) First week is clear liquids-I have protien shakes, vitamins (flinstone gummy's),pain meds already filled, broth, suger free jello, sf ice pops ( are sf fudge pops OK?). And what to bring with me to the hospital? I have a rope, slippers, magazines and my iphone. Should I bring my ipad? Not sure if it will work. Any other suggestions are welcome, anything you wish you had brought to hospital or had already at home after surgery? …

1/13/13 I am 35... Married with 2 kids... Ages 16 & 17 We started off young LOL Well to be honest- Being a mother and wife consummed and defined me. Over the years I put myself on the back-burner, and my body packed on the pounds 5 pds here... Another 5 there :/ Before I knew it- Years went by in a blink of an eye, and I found myself lost! The 2 titles I held dearest... Mother & Wife were fading. I was dealing with my two children who mean the world to me... Pushing away. I guess impart it's normal for High Schoolers to distance themselves... But I wasn't ready for the change... Especially from both at the same time! Oh how I missed the days of element…

My name is Mikell Toms and I had my gastric sleeve procedure performed in early August of 2012. In the time since, I have lost about 130 pounds, having started at 475 pounds and at my most recent weigh-in registering at just over 345. I am eternally grateful for the weight that I've lost, but I struggle with whether it was the right decision. When I met my surgeon, Dr. W.Turton, I immediately took a disliking to him. He seemed disingenuous and sometimes even confused, interested more in flirting with my mother who accompanied me for support than in meeting or speaking with me. I was reassured, even pressured, into moving forward. Despite my reservations, I realized how …

Hello. My name is Beverly and I am currently 63 years old. I live in San Diego, CA where it is always warm and sunny and there are beaches, zoos and parks along with a great social life. But I have not been able to go out to enjoy them for 10 years because I weighed 389 lbs. I couldn't get off the couch or out of bed without help. I couldn't wear normal clothes. Just big muumuus. I couldn't walk so I rode an electric cart with a specially ordered extra large seat. When I went to a restaurant or an office I couldn't sit in a regular chair. Once I fell down while trying to walk in a store and I could not get up. I was so embarrassed I cried. It took three men to get me off …

Ok, My coworker had the gastric bypass 5yrs ago, and I mentioned that I was having the band next week. He said NOOO don't do that, I know 2 people that failed. I'm sooooo tired of people and their opinion on the lapband. I was skeptical at first but I plan on following all instructions provided by my dr. I've educated myself on ALL the complications that MAY happen.BUT I'm going into this with a positive mindset. I just wanted to vent!! Thanks for listening lol

I have been doing my research, and I am trying to figure out which weightloss surgery actuall "suits" me. I have gone to my first consult with my surgeon, and he suggested the band, but after researching this, the band does not seem to be a long-term method. I have made up my mind to conquer this obesity (which I have struggled with since childhood) with wls, and the sleeve seems like the better option. I am aware of the risks of both. My surgeon lives two hours away, and I am concerned about missing work and going to get filled or unfilled. I am 5'6" and 230 pounds and suffer from hypertension. I have tried every diet known to man. Yes, I lose, but it comes back every ti…

Hi, I'm 54 and just hit 200 lbs (tears are brimming in my eyes as I type). I've been using myfitnesspal.com and I've tried Sparkpeople and WW. I am hungry all the time. I've been steadily gaining weight for 6 months now and my thyroid is fine, I'm not yet hormonally menopausal so it's all me. I don't know what to do. I keep hearing an advertisement for obesityseminar.com and the Dr. says it's for people who need to loose 30 lbs or more. I need to loose 60. I feel like I should be able to do this myself and that 60 lbs. just isn't enough to warrant the lapband proceedure. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'd like some advise from people who'…

My name is Beth, I had my surgery last Friday. January 11th 2013. I was out of the hospital the next day. I've been doing pretty well with pain management. The last few days I've noticed my left hip being sore and also my arms and shoulders ache if I use them for a while. Just wondering if this is normal? Also today I tried going for a walk for the first time. About3 minutes into it I felt the urge to go to the bathroom. (#2) so when I got home I was sick an nauseated And when I was done I felt extremely weak. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Thanks! Oh and I've list15lbs in 8 days! Crazy!

I started my journey January of 2011. Went through the process of a whole year of weight management, went to countless appointments and i was supposed to have surgery january-february of 2012, and it didn't happen why? Because the hospital staff is lazy and unorganized. It was May of 2012 when i decided to give up on the idea because i had gotten a new job, and i just didn't have the luxury of taking 3-4 weeks off for recovery. Soon after calling it quits, i found out i was pregnant and 3 months in i had a miscarriage, was it my weight? Maybe so said the gyn but it could of been plenty of other things. Months passed, and i injured my back, doing chores. After going throu…

Hi, I love this site. I have gotten so much helpful information and I thank you all. I have two questions about surgery. My date is Feb 11. Yesterday I went to the pre-op class and I am starting to have cold feet. First of all I have 50-60 lbs to lose. I was approvved for surgery because of co-morbidities. I was approved the first time it was submitted. I would like to be free from my food addiction and the way it rules my life. On the other hand, I fear losing "the food" Does that make sense? I also wonder why I just cant lose this weight on my own? do I go through all of this for 50 lbs. mind you that is 50 lbs that has been 100 lbs and I have never been able to …

Hi everyone!! I have been reading everyone's posts for the past few days and now want to introduce myself. I am just starting out on this journey. The decision to have gastric bypass did not come easy. I always thought if could do it on my own if i would only try harder. I'm sure that many of you have felt the same way. But, things are just not happening for me the way that I want them to. I just got married in May and my husband and I really wanted to get pregnant right away. Of course it did not happen. Mainly due to the weight and the fact that I have PCOS. I was trying to lose weight for the wedding because every girl wants to look their best on that day, and I …

This is not the most pleasant topic to discuss. But I am curious to know other's experience. I am 1 week and 1 day post op. I have only had 1 BM since my surgery. I was very happy about that one because I thought it meant that my system was awake and doing it's thing. Since then there has been nothing. I am wondering if this is because of the liquid diet. Has this been anyone elses experience?

So here's my story... Banded since November 2008. Lost 76 pounds (254 to 178, size 18/20 to size 10). Alot of the weight was lost when I was too tight to get/keep much down. No significant loss in the last 2 years. I get recurrent fevers every 6 months or so, for which I've had numerous tests for -- they thought I might have an auto immune disease but all testing was negative—my surgeon thinks it might possibly be my body rejecting the band, but we don’t really know. Fevers lasted about 24-48 hours then I was back to normal! ...and then my pouch got dilated. I was completely unfilled in December 2011. It has corrected itself, but I’m still gaining. I really star…
