About to start Phase 2 of my post op.....Are potatoes allowed? I was thinking of a potato soup! They would be completely mashed, nothing chunky.

My first job I’m taking off 2 weeks. It’s a desk job. Not very stressful although there are some trials coming up so I’ll have to be able to think clearly. My second job I work customer service at a department store doing returns mostly. My surgery is 3/12. I told them at minimum I’d be out through 4/1 but may be another 2 weeks or I could come back for half shifts with no lifting (vacuums, boxes of damages, etc). They mentioned possibly bringing me back for 4 hour shifts at the register which has minimum bending and no lifting (and I hate it) but it’s money. Right now I work m-F 9-5 at my day job then 5 hours M, W, F night and 8 hours Saturday and Sunday. Any…

I had Gastric Bypass August 5, 2011. I've lost over 125 pounds. But, I have soooo much excess skin. I have become so depressed, I stay in my house, and to myself like I have always done. I feel just as "fat" as if never even had this surgery. My insurance paid for the entire bypass. They tell me they will not cover the cost of the skin removal because they consider it to be "cosmetic". Does anyone reading this know a doctor that will do the surgery and take payments? I have also heard there are some doctors who will do the skin removal and word it in a way that insurance will cover it..... Anyone???

So tomorrow sees my VSG day...so here’s the deal, I was determined it was happening, no nerves, no nothing. So today at work I’ve been irratable & teary. Alot down to me trying to tie up a lot of loose ends that wont get done if I dont do it...coupled with MORE work piled up on me. I worked three hours over to pull things back & feel frazzled. I drove home saying to myself “What the hell made you choose to do something so extreme?!!...this is a rash decision & you’re gonna regret it” I’ve come home & gone to bed, no bag packed nothing. I feel numb...I hope this will pass & I dont go on to regret this big time...??♀️?

I’m miserable! Quickback: I had gastric sleeve in March 2018, I’m at my goal weight I lost over 48 kg about 105lbs. I’ve also never had reflux issues. In November I developed a sore throat, which lead to laryngitis. I healed and felt great for a few weeks then the cough came back then went away and now it’s back! My doctor at first thought I was unlucky and it was a cold now he thinks it’s reflux which has developed into GERD. It sucks -I have coughing fits which can be so bad I nearly vomit atleast 3-4 times a day -I can’t sleep because I cough, I sleep sitting up now but still have a horrible sleep -gasicon or nexium haven’t helped -I have no other symptoms …

My surgeons manual for eating is very general and doesn’t say exactly how much of any one thing to have. How do you know how much to consume? Like I am about to start purées on Wednesday and everyone says how important it is to measure but I don’t know how much I should be eating. Right now I can very easily eat half a cup of bean soup and barely feel full. I stop because I don’t want to overfill my pouch. I’ve actually Googled this subject and found no information. So how much of a puréed food can you consume at 2 weeks? Also protein shakes... how much?? I have only had the premier protein in a bottle because I don’t know how much of anything I can consume if I am blendi…

I underwent VSG on 1/24/19. I also had a large hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. I have been feeling much better in the last week or so, especially during the day. Other than being somewhat fatigued, I feel fine while I’m up and around. For the last 2-3 nights, though, I toss and turn with constant middle-back and side pain. It’s not a burning/stinging pain or anything. It’s more of a really strong ache. Reminds me of a “flu backache” for anyone familiar with that. It doesn’t matter which position I lie in, it’s constant. Has anyone else experienced this? What in the world is causing it? I have no other adverse symptoms at this point.

Hey All, So today was my first day home after having Gastric Bypass on Wednesday, 1/30. All day my stomach has been gurgling and I ended up slowly running to the bathroom with an upset stomach and lots of gas several times. At first I was excited not to be backed up from all the pain meds, but it’s happened all day now. Is it normal to poop 6-8 times so soon after surgery? Is it a reaction to a new medication/vitamin or something I’m drinking? Any ideas?

My heaviest weight was 370. In 2010 I had the band installed (such a mistake, waste of time, money and effort IMO) March 10th, 2018 at my Pre-Surgical check in I was 310. March 21st, 2018 at check in for surgery I was 294.4. I had the band removed and revised to the bypass. Today, January 23rd, 2019. 308 days after surgery... I hit a number that I haven't seen in more than 20 years Onederland. I'm down 95 lbs since surgery, 110.6 lbs from pre-surgical. And a staggering 170.6 lbs from my heaviest weight. I need to thank so many people that if I tried, I'd forget someone and then we'd start with the hard feelings. So I'll go with this. Thank you. …

Has anyone had to deal with the death of a parent right after surgery. My dad passed unexpectedly 3 days post op and I’m really struggling. My surgery was 6/12 and he passed on 6/15. I’m a mess. My mom has early stage Alzheimer’s and he was her care giver. So I’m planning the funeral all by myself and dealing with my mom. I had to stop taking my pain killers because I needed to be able to drive. I’m so stressed and surrounded by food. And I’m hungry and nauseated at the same time. This can’t good. Help!

So I am seven days postop. I have eight more days that I am supposed to be on full liquids. I’m wondering how many people eat soft foods when they were supposed to be on full liquids. And do you consider hot cereals like Malto Meal acceptable at this stage? I know I need to stick to my doctors plan but I would like to know what others have done in terms of sneaking in some mushy foods while in this stage.

Starting week 7 post op. I can start with normal foods. Yay! But I still have trouble getting more than 3oz in. Boo! I weigh myself on Sundays and the weight loss is frustraaaatingly slow. There was one week where I lost 2 lbs. But all the others I lose less than a lb per week. Is this normal? How can this be when I'm basically starving (on average 500 cals a day)? I'm worried that if I ever get to the 1000-1200 cals per day I'll stop losing weight or start gaining again! And I still have like 50lbs to go to reach my goal. I'm afraid I'll never get there.

Hello everyone, I had the sleeve done on 1/8 and am feeling fine at 22 pounds down. I eat all my meals and drink my fluids regularly. All that said, I am having almost no bowel movements. I do pass gas regularly but I do not have the feeling that I need to go. I don't feel constipated and I have no gas pain. Is any of this normal or am I doing something wrong? It just feels weird to me.

I can't believe it, but then again, I can! All this hard work and discipline is paying off. My first milestone was to fit into Victoria's Secret Bra sizes again (the sizes you can actually buy IN store and not online...jerks lol). CHECK! My second was to get under 200 lbs before my vacation to Ireland. We're leaving on Thursday and wouldn't you know it...199 on the dot! CHECK! I started my journey at 299 my first surgeon visit, 284 my last appointment before surgery, then 264 day of surgery (after 2 week liquid diet) and now currently 199. I haven't been under 200 lbs in over 10 years. I feel like my mind has to play catch up with my body, I'm losing a…

I had surgery yesterday and was just discharged home from the hospital. I wanted to ask you guys about fluids when you came home.. I’ve been doing the sips every 2-3 minutes as instructed but it’s making me super nauseated. There is honestly no way I’m gonna be able to get 64 ounces in right now. I’m barely able to get 10. Is this bad I can’t get my fluids? Should I call my physician or is it normal not to be able to drink with getting nauseated right after surgery?

I’m happy with my weight loss but it’s coming off in some areas and not others... Sleeved 8/20/18, down 76 lbs since pre-op diet (HW 265, SW 255). 39 lbs from goal of 150!! However, my calves and lower abdomen are still fat whereas my thighs/butt have almost disappeared. Anyone else experience this? Thanks!

Hello all, I’m still pre-op, doing some research while I wait for my intake appointment, and came across some information that pointed to an increase in cases of vasovagal syncope after bariatric surgery. My question is- does anyone have experience with having VS BEFORE wls? If so, did your surgeon have concerns? Did your symptoms worsen after surgery? If they did, did this decrease over time as your body adjusted and your diet rounded out? I will be discussing this with my surgeon, but I wanted to see if anyone could share their own experiences. Thanks!

I'm having bypass surgery on February 13 and would like to take a 700 mile trip by car or air to see family (domestic, not international travel) to visit a college campus with my son and daughter (and husband) 3-4 weeks after gastric bypass. I expect to feel tired, but I'm wondering how I will feel physically in terms of internal pain, nausea, etc. that far out after surgery. I am not worried about managing my diet too much, mostly concerned if I will actually feel healthy enough to make the trip. What say ye?

Hi All, I am 16 months Post op and have lost a total of 91lbs since my surgery. My body has decided that 140lbs is where it would like to sit as i've been stalled at this weight for the last FIVE months. Any tips to get the scale moving again?? I am staying around 1000-1200 Calories a day and it is primarily High protein/ Low carb. I have intensified my workouts and still the scale doesn't fluctuate, I'm at a loss. What works for you to get the scale moving again? Any one else deal with this long of a stall? Thanks!

I've been reading and following a lot of the posts. Trying to get as much information as I can. I had the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty done 12/13/18. I've been following the recommended diet. I'm about 6 weeks out and have only lost 10 pounds...total. I exercise by walking for 30 mins five times a week & go to the gym for an hour, 3 times a week. I saw the dietitian just over a week ago. She thought maybe I wasn't getting enough calories. I've been getting most of my water in & all my protein. She wants me to eat around 800 calories a day. 9 days later & I've only lost 1 pound. I'm getting discouraged. Anyone else have this happen? Or have some helpf…

Hello there, I had my RNY on the 23rd and was discharged yesterday so I've been home a full 24 hours. Liquids are going down fine, minimal nausea, though the thought of chewing real foods again makes me tired. I SEVERELY underestimated how much pain I'd be in but it's manageable. I had a hiatal hernia repaired and my gallbladder removed so those are sources of pain as well. My primary issue? Gas. I've never wanted to pass gas so much in my life. It's also a sentence I never thought I'd type but here I am. I was told by my nurse not to be surprised if I didn't have a bowel movement until this weekend and I honestly wanted to cry. I've been walking and it does help it mo…

Had my sleeve done in 1/15/19. Since the surgery nearly everything tastes terrible. The only things I can stomach is chicken broth and popsicles. My protein shakes, sf Jell-O, sf pudding, yogurt, cream of wheat, etc makes me nauseous. Does this pass? I’m afraid I’ll never get my protein count up. I’m using chicken bone broth so I’m getting some protein but nothing near my daily goal.

Tomorrow makes one week from surgery and things have been pretty good. It's a challenge to get in my protein and water each day but I'm getting better. The pain is manageable and I've already lost a few pounds. What I've found the most difficult is the mental aspect! I see commercials for food and I think about how delicious a big mac would be right now. Really, any kind of bread has been what I'm craving the most. Tell me this will go away!
