I felt pretty ok the first few days but the last couple days I've been waking up feeling super cruddy... Absolutely no energy, headachey and a little nauseous. I'm supposed to be walking every day but every time I stand up I feel like I'm going to pass out. I've been drinking 48-60 oz of water and getting about 55 grams of protein a day. At this point I may be regretting my decision to have the surgery. I didn't know I would feel this bad. Is this normal? Any advice?

I was sleeved on Dec 19, (3 weeks today) I am on puréed foods now and can’t stop burping...all day! I had minor reflux before the surgery... at least that what the doctor told me after my endoscopy. Now I feel like I have it worse 10 time over! Is that something that can happen? You DEVELOP reflux after surgery?

When is everyone going to surgeon/ center visits post-op? My insurance changed to Kaiser so I am going to go to their center for post-op appts instead of MY surgeon/ nut center. I am new to Kaiser so I just want to make sure whatever appts they schedule are what the standard is. I think with my surgeon there was an appt at 3months out but not sure how often after that. I've been paying oop for my nut visits so will be happy to have it covered by Kaiser.

I know there are a bunch of posts already about Keto from last year, however they are really all over the place. Has anyone done Keto, OR a low carb diet that made them get out of a stall, and lose weight after that? I had gastric bypass in May, and only lost 40 pounds total. I am in desperate need of a jump start. I was thinking of doing the protein shake liquid diet to jump start weight loss for 3 days, and then start a low carb/keto diet. Anyone have suggestions, or any experience with this? Thanks in advance!

Here is some info I've got together.. I had lap band to gastric sleeve surgery in 2015. I feel a lot of muscular skeletal pain in my back and side. The pain is very painful and feels like a cramping. I took some OTC pain relievers and they don't seem to work effectively. I am asking anyone out there in the world as to what is causing this pain. It feels neurological and as I know, your not supposed to be in pain with this surgery. I really regret having the surgery and any help would be appreciated. Anyone have any outside opinion in some other state or country? I had the Lap band --- Sleeve revision and found two disc bulges from an MRI.

Hi everyone ! My name is Gia and I’m currently in the process of doing the Duodenal Switch. I’m 20 years old. 5’3 and about 345 lbs right now. I have been approved by my insurance but I need two more tests done before I get scheduled. I have a few questions for people who have already had the surgery , anything you wish you knew before you did it ? Anything I should remember to keep my head in the game ? Tips on the dealing / getting over the worst things ? Tips on mental health maintenance ? I’m sorry for asking so much considering I haven’t gotten the surgery yet but I’m doing a notebook beforehand. Thank you in advance !

Hi Guys. Still planning for my sleeve. I know that 2-3 weeks is the ideal time to take off work for recovery and that it really just varies person to person how much time is needed. But how much time did you ACTUALLY take off. And how physical is your job? Teacher here, getting sleeved right before he new school year and I don’t wanna take the first couple weeks of the school year off. Thanks for replying.

I had lap band to gastric sleeve surgery and live with terrible back and stomach spasms. The doctor found 2 disc bulges but it is still not known why I have such pain. Is there anything that I can do about the spasming and pain? Would a nerve block or any pain medication work to decrease pain?

Good morning everyone! I apologize if this has been asked before, but this is my first time in the post-op section. Last week I received my surgery date, February 6th (woohoo!), so I thought that I would head over to this section and start reading some posts. Anyway, this may be a weird question, but what did you guys do at home during your recovery period? I am planning to take about 3 weeks off at work and I am hoping that boredom won't get the best of me while I am at home! I know I will have to go for walks during the day. I bought a sudoku book and crossword book and also a couple puzzles to do, but i think that will only last me a few days. What did you guys do…

I had my surgery yesterday. Literally like zero except a pain right in my diaphragm. It’s not unbearable but painful enough it’s making me uncomfortable. Did you have this and how long did it last? It’s better since last night but still hurts.

I’m 7 days out and I have no problems drinking water or anything. I don’t have any discomfort really and I am so worried that my surgery didn’t work. I am afraid that I will be able to eat without problems when that time comes.

Had my surgery on 12/10. About to go into my second week of pureed foods. I’ve been really good about following the post-op instructions. Does the hunger ever go away? A big reason I went ahead with the surgery was that I was told that with gastric sleeve, you don’t feel so hungry. Honestly, I was relying on that. For the past few weeks I crave everything I see on tv, my husband eats, etc. And I feel hungry enough that I could eat that entire burger and fries, or two slices of pizza (my usual pizza intake before surgery), or whatever. It’s not just bad foods. Good healthy food also makes me salivate. Obviously I don’t, because it’s not allowed. But I was hoping that…

I had my surgery about 9 months ago and I have been stalled for the last 2 months. I know that I have been overeating and eating all the wrong things. I know I am stretching my new stomach out and I'm so angry and disappointed in myself. Has anyone else struggled and what did you do to get back on track. The holidays are so hard for me emotionally for a few reasons. I'm a recovering alcoholic/addict and after getting clean and sober 7 years ago I went to using food for comfort (I already had food issues before but they doubled). I have reverted back to my old comfort of eating and yes, I am in therapy.

I’m feeling very frustrated and alone with this process. I had a revision from sleeve to rny to due GERD and Barrets esophogas. I had a bravo study done and my acid scores were in the 90’s. The dr immediately suggested the revision and submitted the paperwork the second week of November. I left for vacation for two weeks and during that time learned that I was approved and they scheduled me for 12/12. I received zero information from a dietician regarding what I should be doing post-op. The dr gave me a print out of the progression from liquid to soft food and literally that’s it. I didn’t have to do the liquid diet, just clear liquids the day before the surgery, an…

So, this morning I needed to make a trip to the grocery store and I pulled on a pair of jeans. I took two steps out of my bedroom and the jeans fell down and pooled around my feet. I started crying. Happy tears, not sad. Those jeans used to fit me pretty snug, and now they are so loose that they won't stay up. I never thought my clothes would be too big on me and it was a bit of a reality check for me making me realize that I'm getting healthier and I'm actually doing it. I just want to know, did you guys start buying more clothes right away? I can't really afford to keep buying new clothes every few months, so does anyone else have other alternatives? I work fr…

So for a long time I had a goal of if/when I returned to my lowest ever adult weight, I would get a pixie cut again (which I had and loved the last time I was at that weight). A few weeks ago I hit that goal (217) - woo hoo!! However, as I was going to book my appointment to cut off all my hair, I started worrying that with my hair being so much thinner a pixie cut would emphasize the places it’s thinned. When I comb my hair in certain ways, I feel like I can see the bald spots a bit. Otherwise it’s not noticeable to others - just less volume and thinner hair which I am aware of but no one else is. Do we think a pixie might highlight the thinner spots, and I shoul…

Hey Everyone, My question is around calories, I understand the difference between "Good" and "bad" calories, I'm now trying to maintain my weight and build some muscle, I'm 7 months PO and my weight is still going down which is a little worrying. I'm consuming between 1000-1200 calories a day and doing weight training 4-5 times a week with 10-15 minutes of running on the treadmill as a warm up. I've been trying in incorporate Nuts, Seeds, Legumes, Protein, Avocado etc into my diet as its more caloric dense healthy foods however I cant seem to get past that 100-1200 calories a day 100-150 grams of weight per meal. I was looking up online about how many Ca…

I should start this out by saying I am not looking for any medical advice, this is mostly just to vent because I am frustrated and scared. I was sleeved on 10/15/18 and have not had any complications except for a kidney stone 1 month post op. For the last 2 weeks however I have been feeling extremely run down, muscle aches all over and daily headaches. I definitely felt like something was wrong with me, but in my head I thought it could be low vitamin levels or just my body adjusting to the weight loss. I am scheduled for my 3 month post op appointment on 1/22 and had my 3 month labs drawn last Friday, mostly expecting them to show low vitamin levels (although…

Eating and drinking over the past month has gotten progressively harder. I saw my team today who predict I either have a stricture or a hernia. I have an upper GI scheduled for the day after Christmas. I have had a super easy recovery and this has really put me in a rotten mood. Everything I eat or drink ends up being vomited up or dry heaved. My throat is raw from repeatedly throwing up and I’m nauseous all the time. I’m a miserable mess right now. I could use some encouragement, esp from someone who has gone through this. Thanks

I'm a little over 2 months post-op and I have plateaued. I know it is normal and the weight loss will start again but it is so frustrating. I lost 40 pounds in the first 2 months and now I'm losing and gaining the same 5 pounds. I'm following my plan, working out, drinking water so I know it will kick in again but until them....argh. My hair has also started thinning. I was told it happens around 6 months post op but mine started around 2 months. Anyone else have it start that soon?

Yes its winter & I live in Ohio.... But I'm FREEZING. I worked so hard to get the weight off and now I'm cold. My insulation is gone!!! I wear a tank top, along sleeve turtleneck, a long sleeve t-shirt and a sweatshirt. Lol four layers to work. Plus my coat, head band, hat, gloves. I feel like that kid from the Christmas story who's all bundled up to go outside and play in the snow and can't move lol. I wear sweats around the house and have to wrap up in a blanket. sometimes I have to go in and take a HOT shower just to warm my body up. I also go to bed now with my sweat pants and sweat shirt lol real sexy right? Not complaining..... happy that I'm skinny....…

Do you take chewy calcium or pills? Do you take 1,000 or 1,500 mg. daily? Do you take your calcium with food or without? I am getting so confused by conflicting information. Some say to use chewable calcium because it is better absorbed, but the chewies give me an extra 30 calories per day. Some say pills are fine. I have seen sources state to take with food, and others say to take on an empty stomach. Stomach acid boosts the absorption of calcium citrate, so does that mean you should not take it too close to taking your acid reducer? Vitamins confuse me too. Some say 2 multivitamins, others say 1 pill. I am trying to do everything right but there is so much conflicting i…

Do you measure foods like chicken and fish by weight with a scale or volume with a measuring cup? I have always used a scale but sometimes the portion seems big and I don’t want to stretch my sleeve. Normally I use a scale for meat, fish, chicken, nuts and cups/spoons for veggies and jut butter. Am I doing it right?

Hi, everyone! I posted this in the veterans forum, but I thought y'all might really benefit from hearing/reading this, too. Today (1/3/19) is my 14 year surgi-versary, and I wanted to Celebrate by sharing the gift of knowledge with anyone who may be a few steps behind me. 1. Be kind to yourself. This journey is long and hard and most definitely bumpy - but it's yours to do with as you see fit. Don't settle, but don't beat yourself up for a misstep. We did that for too long before surgery, k? 2. Be strong. You are your own best advocate. You know your body, and you know when something is not right. Push for answers. Assert yourself. Fight for what you need. 3. Be vulnerabl…

I have an email sent to my team, but I was wondering if anyone else was told to not have the calcium chews until 6 weeks post-op? I forgot to ask and have been working on Citracal's Petites (but I have to take two pills, three times a day due to the size and the dosage - it's getting annoying!) I don't like the chewables AT ALL, so I'm kind of stuck with the petites (and they are still huge as hell pills!)

I know I am not the only one with a sweet tooth out there. What are you guys doing to curve or satisfy your sweet cravings post bypass without destroying your diet. I do have trouble with dumping and have had several episodes, if I tried to push the sweets limit. I do eat fruits and that helps sometimes, but sometimes I have an uncontrollable urge for CHOCOLATE! I have also found fiber one bars that are oats and chocolate 140 calories. That's not too bad right? But I sure you guys have discovered so other things I haven't thought of so lets hear it?

Hell Everyone, I had my surgery in October 2016. I have lost over 100 pounds. My starting weight was 349 pounds. I currently weight around 246 pounds, so I still have a lot to go. These last two years have been tough. I got through college during my surgery. Everything was going great. As college got challenging I started to eat like before my surgery. I ate fried foods, dessert and drank soda. All the habits that they told us to kick, I started them again. I’ve been eating normally again, and bigger portions, but I’ve managed to stay active and keep my weight down. I graduated college and transferred to another school with an all you can eat buffet style dining. I ate…

I am 6 days post-op and my shoulder has been screaming with pain. I have a torn rotator cuff amongst other tears verified by an MRI. I was given tylenlol 3 and tramadol for the bariatric surgical pain but the shoulder pain cuts through this. I have had issues with my Walmart pharmacist just to get the tylenlol 3 that was prescribed to me. They treat me like a junkie and ask a million questions and act like I should not be given my medication. I was on T3 pills for a week for shoulder pain pre-surgery and then prescribed the liquid T3 after bariatric surgery. I also have bulging discs and bones spurs in my neck and diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Pre-surgery was taking Celeb…

Ok, I'm just over two weeks post surgery right now. The first week i lost about ten pounds which was great. Then i haven't really budged since then. Just hovering back and forth within two pounds. Here's my question...even though the scale gives me nothing right now, my clothes are completely huge on me suddenly, my face is obviously trimmer and where i used to be all heavily packed in, I'm getting soft, if that makes sense. What's the deal with the scale?? Is there a reason the numbers aren't going down even though my body's showing me that I'm losing??

Y'all, I found out the crappy way that I have an allergy to the incision glue, my stomach is a riot of itchy hives that I am using hydrocortisone and taking Zyrtec (Doctors orders). It sucks so much. Additional skin issues are happened all over my face and shoulders, I feel like a teenager with all this acne! Wtf is going on? Is this hormones being released from fat loss? I'm a week post vsg. Suggestions? I've been drinking plenty of water and doing relatively ok on protein.

So I’m on my 5th day post op of being sleeved second day at home and I’ve heard all kinds of noises from my stomach, has anyone else experienced this? Also the indigestion right now feels unbearable. I’ve been using papaya extract as recommended but I feel like I need more. Any suggestions? Lastly what methods is anyone using to get the required 64 oz in without feeling pain? I feel like I’m running out of time and find myself rushing and it’s so painful. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Angie

I just came across an article that said that restrictions after bypass was walking only for 30 days. Then maybe add swimming but no weight lifting/strength training for 4 months and no high impact for a year. That seemed conservative so I wanted to see what others were told. I have not had the final meeting with my surgeon so I don't have his specific recommendations.

I am almost 5 months post op and am having extreme hair loss. All of my labs were normal. Any suggestions or rays of hope? This is new to me. I have incredibly thick hair and used to get it thinned out every 6 weeks just to put it in a pony tail. Now I can wrap the hair tie three times around my hair and my friends are noticing the thinning. I am on the verge of tears. Thanks for your help!

So, since surgery, I have been noticing all sorts of different incremental changes to my life. It has been like adopting an entirely new routine and set of habits that belonged go somebody else. It has been great. I'm wondering if anybody has noticed some small but surprising details that they hadn't expected. For example, it took me a while to adjust to the new time it takes microwave food. Before, I hardly ever had leftovers, but if I was heating up a plate for myself it would take 2 minutes, a stir, and another minute to warm up my pile o' slop (patent pending). It took me a while to realize it only takes 30-45 seconds now to get my small-sized portion piping hot. I ju…

I had the gastric sleeve on 10/16. My doctor wants his patients to do 3 weeks liquids, 3 weeks soft food, then starting week 7 is normal food. I am 5 days from soft food stage. I however have been struggling to get my protein in because I can't do the protein shakes or powder. I have seriously tried every kind every which way and still have issues. I know some people get to start the soft foods at 2 weeks. If I started early with lunch meat, tuna, retried beans, would that be OK or would it be a big no no. My doc wants me to get 65 grams of protein and its hard to do when I can't do the protein shakes and powder. Right now I'm eating yogurt too try to get some…

I'm really worried that I went through all of this for nothing. I had surgery at the end of Nov., had a nice weight loss of about 25 lbs and now it has stopped. Nothing for weeks. I eat so little, cottage cheese and fruit for breakfast, veggies for lunch, fish for dinner-this is very discouraging.
