Does anyone have any guidelines re: how many grams of carbs and fats we should stay under each day, specifically in the early months (I am 6.5 weeks). I am trying to set up my Baritastic App goals and don't have those guidelines.

Help I am two years post op and just can't get my crap together. I don't over eat, however I haven't been making good food choices. I lost 123 lbs and have gained 30 lbs back. I am in a size 12 and honestly that is the size I wanted to be, considering I was a size 24 when i started. I got down to a 10 and now that I had a taste of it I want it so badly, but just cant seem to get back on track. I know these may seem like excuses, but life has thrown me some major punches this past year. My husband started a job that requires him to be gone most of the week and we have 13 children. I only have 11 home now but as you can imagine it is a busy job and I find very little…

I had to be extremely careful during the pre-op process to lose weight, but not TOO much weight, because I didn't have enough in regards to co-morbidities to have the surgery below a BMI of 40...the one time when not having diabetes or high blood pressure is a bad thing! So six months of doctor visits and multiple blood pressure readings, and none of them were ever the slightest bit high. In fact the readings immediately after surgery in the hospital were really low. Then at my 1 week post op visit, it was high. Today, at my 1 month post op visit, it was even higher. The PA said it would level off, and that it wasn't high enough to worry about, but this concerns me, and i…

I had surgery two weeks ago this past Monday. Have been feeling feeling better everyday but today made the mistake of wrapping Christmas presents for a few hours. I think it put a strain on my stomach muscles that I didn't expect and now I'm pretty sore. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I've been a little concerned with my progress...I'm 5 months in since my surgery and I've been losing only about 2 pounds per week....is that right?? I've been working out, eating as best as I can, as I ever did, and I'm only losing 2 pounds per week. It's really stressing me out because I feel like it should be more and I try not to be hard on myself but some times I cant help it.

Discovered I'm now seriously lactose intollerant along with artificial sugar and sugar alcohol. My whole plan for weight loss is out the window. The final straw is my Dr said I should be losing more than one lb per week. Anyone have similar symptoms?

  11. Started by Lovingmyselfforever,

I am now 4 1/2weeks post op. The first 2 weeks I drank the powder multivitamin lemonade flavor now I can’t stand it. So 3rd week I tried the chewable Bariatric Multivitamin with 45 mg of iron it was awful. So this week I tried capsule Bariatric with 45 mg iron once a day I swallowed it but it felt stuck in my throat then just felt nausea. Just wondering what else to do? I hadn’t tried gummies is that any better?

I have my surgery this Wednesday (excited and terrified all at once!) I am crossing my fingers that everything will go well and I will be able to come home the next day. The question I wanted to ask is about when would be an appropriate time to start walking my dog. I have an 8 year old Boston Terrier mix named Willow who LOVES LOVES LOVES walks. Prior to the surgery, we walked around the neighborhood for between 30-45 minutes (upwards of an hour.) There are a few hills, but it's generally flat. I don't expect to walk her the day I come back, but would I be okay walking her the next day? I plan on asking my team on Wednesday, but I thought I'd see if anyone here had exper…

  17. I'm having gastric bypass in June- I don't have my date yet, but finishing up the doctor's requirements, and insurance is already approved... I have a friend that had the sleeve done in November and she was telling me today that she has to wear adult diapers because she can't differentiate between farting and actually having to go to the bathroom. She's 5 months out and said it's been this way since her surgery. Granted, she did have some colon issues, but this scares me. Could this issue be a result of the gastric surgery? Has any one had issues with thinking they were passing gas, only to have an accident? And if so... how long does this last? This would certainly…

I feel like hell and sleeping in my own bed is awful. I miss the hospital bed adjusting to help with back pain. I woke up today feeling pretty awful. And my 15 yr old is not sympathetic at all...but my hubby is being amazing. I've been reading posts in here and relate to the feeling of crying randomly. Man this is rough! Just venting. [emoji37]

Last year I was hit by an 18 wheeler semi and I got thrown 100 ft. I broke the lower half of my back along with vertebrae’s. Both my collarbones and both scapulas. A few ribs... I’m supposed to be dead, but God has better plans. I’m a 26 year old woman that weights 412 lbs. If I didn’t eat edibles, I would be hooked on narcotics or God knows what. With the daily pain from my accident, do you think if I only use it before a meal, would that be okay? I know it’s bad to use after surgery because it makes you hungry, but I use it to help with pain, not to make me hungry. Help... -Hopeless

  20. So today was my first day of adding some full liquid (creamed strained soup) before then was strictly water, protein water and protein shakes. My question is should bowl movements still be so watery? When does it start to get more solid during the pureed stage or soft food stage?

This post isn't about me but my mum. She had the operation on Nov 1 and is really starting to struggle. She's finding it super difficult to even get to half her recommended water amount, the diet shakes and proteins shakes won't stay down and are too sweet. She's on soft foods at the moments but there are a lot of days lately where even water is making her vomit. She's also having mega amounts of trouble swallowing her medication? She's on an antidepressant and hyper thyroid medication and can only manage to take them all or even half every two or three days. These is severely affecting her mental health. Does anyone have any tips to help get medication down or ways to dr…

The scale in my doctor's office is wrong. It weighs me 10 lbs heavier then my scale at home. Though dr is happy with my weight loss per their scale, I wouldnt be. I sounded so lame telling them their scale is off,,,but its true! I came home and recalibrated my scale and checked it and my scale is accurate. I am seriously thinking of bringing my scale to my next appointment...( and i know their scale will weigh me a few pounds higher given its midday) Just so aggravating! My scale shows i lost 27 pounds in 30 days, theirs showed about 17. No way would i be happy with only 17 lost!

So I'm a month out, and I'm still struggling with water and to a lesser degree, protein. I abhor the shakes and try to get most of my protein from food, but it is hard because at this point I can only have teensy portions. So I find that I do best with one super high protein shake, and I tolerate it best if I sip it throughout the day. It takes me a long time to finish, even though it is thin. I also need to constantly sip water. So do shakes count as food or fluid when the rule of 30 is concerned? I personally would count it as a food if it was thick or had added fruit, but it feels like a fluid to me (Premier or Atkins RTD, over iced but not blended with ice). So is it …

I am really worried that I am going to gain so much weight back and never be able to lose it after working so hard these last 13 months. I have yet to tell the guy I am seeing about it too, because I am not sure how to approach it and tell him. I am mainly worried about gaining all my weight back and really don’t want to :( anyone out there that has been thru this and can help me feel better about this? :(

Hi Bariatric Pals, I'm coming up on my one-year-surgiversary (11/22) and I'm already feeling hungry all the time. I wasn't expecting to feel hungry this soon after surgery. I was under the impression I wouldn't feel hungry for YEARS after surgery, but here I am feeling hungry all the time less than a year post-op. It's concerning to me because I haven't lost any weight in the last month and a half and I feel just as hungry as I used to feel before surgery. How do I manage my hunger properly? I know I don't drink enough water and I could probably track my food a bit more. I have been indulging in bad food lately, too. I try to drink protein shakes but I just do…

Part of me still thinks about food constantly, drooling over what I will be allowed to eat at the next phase, and the other part of me finds eating a chore and a bore. The taste thing is weird, it isn't just the extreme aversion to artificial sweeteners, it is other things too. I was looking forward to trying salmon, and I took the tiniest little bite and spit it out, it tasted awful! Last night I practically choked down a piece of string cheese (which I still like) because I just wasn't hungry but I needed more protein for the day. The whole thing is weird, but even at this early and difficult stage, I am so very grateful for this surgery making food less appealing. I kn…

  34. I had my surgery on Monday and I am still in the hospital. Looks like I might be here another day or two. We just can’t get the nausea under control. I don’t have any abdominal pain (unless I am dry heaving) but with the nausea I can’t drink the little one once cups of fluid. How long does this last? Did anyone else suffer from prolonged nausea?

  36. So as many of us know - we had the surgery for various reasons. Most are health related ... as was mine. Now 3 1/2 years out ... I'm developing a whole new set of health challenges ... Seems my refusal to eat sugar and carbs is catching up with me ... in the form of Hypoglycemia. Gotta love that. NOT. So the doctor says I need to eat some carbs and carry a piece of candy with me for when it hits ... which is getting more and more frequent and I've even passed out a few times ... once in the Chicago airport! LOVE the embarrassment there ... Carry a piece of candy?! Have you lost your mind?! So has this been an issue with anyone else? How do you handle it? I'm…

So... I don't really get why everything we have to take for nausea etc is by mouth right after surgery (I mean my stomach just isn't handling them) but my doctor has prescribed me Regalen for nausea. Is it super bad tasting? I only ask because the Zophran under the tongue makes me vomit, as does the liquid Tylenol 3. I am not getting relief from either because I can't keep them down. Sorry for all the questions.

  38. My employer has a flexible spending account they offer. Has anyone used one to pay for vitamins, calcium, or even protein shakes after having bariatric surgery? If this is an option anyone with an employer offered FSA could probably save several hundred to even a few thousand dollars a year

  39. Started by LAN2k,

I know I may be pushing this issue but I happen to be very sensitive to prescription drugs. I am already taking anti-anxiety and anti-depression (non SSRI) medication. I confronted my surgeon yesterday on the necessity of taking daily PPI med because he originally told me I could take OTC Pepsid AC every day or as needed. I encountered a short bout of acid reflux early out from surgery (about week 2) and he gave me scripts for prevacid, prilosec, nexium, and protonix-(all in generic form). I tried the prilosec for about 2 weeks and could not stand the rock dry mouth and tongue, and some other weird things I felt were associated with it. After belabouring the issue wit…

  42. Hi all - I am 1 week and 1 day post-op. It's Thanksgiving and as my son and hubby are enjoying dinner with family, I sit here wondering what is going on. Like seriously WTF?!?... I am doing everything right food-wise... only the best proteins and, sugar free puddings with whey powder, bariatric branded soups, and drinks with powder - absolutely no sugars & no fats. But I am having what I feel like must be dumping syndrome after anything with whey protein in it. The only thing my tummy has not rejected is fat free cottage cheese with pepper and a little salt. I was doing great meeting my protein and water goals in my first week, I tried some greek yogurt and w…

  44. Hello! I’m 4 and a half months post op now and have been having trouble eating. Meat grossed me out, more specifically chicken! I don’t like fish, I haven’t been able to get in almost any protein :( but for the past week I’ve literally become addicted to canned string beans with apple cider ginger and a splash of olive oil. It’s so weird! I eat about a can and a half every day throughout the day. It’s actually about the only thing I can eat with the exception of land o lakes thinly sliced yellow American cheese, so weird and so specific. Don’t like any other brand. I’m a little nervous about all the vinegar although I use braggs apple cider which is suppose to have many b…

I have had a number of complications including cdiff after surgery so I am behind on the food progression. Cottage cheese didn’t work well and the only thing I can stomach the thought of is yogurt. I have tried tuna, canned chicken, and gauc. Pre-surgery I would have gladly eaten it all but post-surgery it all grosses me out. Does this pass? Do I need to force myself to eat stuff so I can get past it. I can also no longer handle anything sweet. And the protein drinks aren’t working very well for me. Any suggestions?

  46. Started by Swanton_Bomb,

I'm so confused and frustrated. I know stalls are very common around week 3 (I am 19 days out, so I am almost there). Earlier in the week, I was down 12.7lbs. since surgery, for a total of 33.8 including the pre-surgery diet. Then two days ago I went up a pound, and I figured, ok, water fluctuation, but then today, another pound. I am getting in my protein and eating between 400-500 calories now. I went back to work, so I am more active. Why am I gaining? I expected a stall, but not a gain, is that common as well? Am I eating too many calories for this stage of the game? I had really hoped to lose 15 the first month.

I am scheduled for the sleeve tomorrow evening. I have set up a home gym in my basement because I dont like to work out in front of people and it's too damn cold to go to the trail and walk. I was wondering how long did everyone wait before they started working out?

  48. Started by nikkylove89 ,

I wanted to know if there was any Nigerian person who has done the sleeve I just have a question about certain foods we eat.

  49. I’m trying to avoid alcohol and my dietician has told me no carbonated drinks. When friends go to the bar, what can I order? I’m looking for something that is relatively common, which many bars would be able to make.

  50. Started by katiemarie22,

I was sleeved 10/14. I was never nauseous before surgery. Now, things are different. I don’t feel hungry anymore, but when it’s close to a time for me to eat (for example when I wake up in the morning before I eat breakfast), I feel nauseous. Same if I have a late lunch - I will feel nauseous until I eat something. After I eat, nausea goes away. Problem is, I don’t have much appetite, nothing is appealing when you’re nauseous so it’s hard to force myself to eat a few bites to relieve the nausea. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Tips to relieve the nausea?
