It was told to me by my nutritionist that I should never eat and drink at the same time. I was told that I should wait 30 min after eating to consume liquids. Since my surgery, I don't think I've actually followed through with that suggestion once. Although, I do wonder often how big of a mistake I'm making. Does anyone know why this is a suggestion? And how detrimental it is to my body and/or health by not doing so?? If detrimental at all of course.

I was asked by another poster to start this thread. You see, although I had studied, I prepared, I thought understood as well as any other layperson what surgery and recovery would entail. And I had every intention of having a wonderful surgery, a seamless recovery, and a perfect future. Well it is not necessarily so. Take me , a poster child for a lovely surgery. And it was, 6 tiny incisions criss-crossed with surgical tape, no nausea, no gas built up to expell. And although I was kept room-bound because of my age, I could walk, move around my room with no light-headness, oh Life was Wonderful. And I went home, still thinking everything is going to be fine. And then I h…

It’s been one week. Had my first BM and I still feel bloated. I feel like I should’ve lost something being I’m on a clear diet. I feel weak so I sneaked in two spoons of plain yogurt to my jello. Went down fine so I’m doing again. I need protein!

I see many people starting with liquids then puréed food then normal food. I am one week post operation and at hospital I had liquids broths and juice , however the diet I was given for when I go home and later was almost normal food, just what to take care how to start eating things slowly what to avoid what to check slowly if I can eat etc. I was quite happy with that but kept some liquids for the breakfast and snacks and only have soft food for main courses (I had boiled potatoes and boiled chicken, chicken soup with rice and tuna so far) it goes great but I am worried if I do something very wrong. Should I see a dietitian or something?

Hi All, I had my sleeve performed by a well known and respectable North Texas Clinic in June 2017. I am loving how I feel etc, and have got to my goal weight. Operation was 16 Months ago. Yesterday I received an invoice for $1782.78 for co-insurance from my anesthesiologist ( the total for 2 Anesthesiologists was $17k) I believe they were out of Network. I wouldn't mind, the surgeon only billed $3K. And why 2 Anesthesiologists when It was routine, no known prior or during issues and I was in and out in 45 minutes. I believe the Anesthesiologists were out of network. But I was not told any of this and it just doesn't seem right that 16 months on I am receiving a firs…

Hi all I have had a long journey . I was sleeved in 2011 start weight 135 kg then lost 20kg only to put it all back on. In the last two years have got it together and lost 26 kg in last 2 years slowly and surely with excersise and diet. I now find myself in a holding pattern. I am tracking nutrients with MFP but am struggling to get food in. If I eat too much I feel ill and can't get enough veggies in. I need advice ,do I switch to smaller more frequent meals or stick with 3 per day. I want to stay satisfied and lose weight. Some days I am just not hungry and miss meals . Has anyone been in this situation could you share some tips.

So started exercising 2 weeks ago. Granted not full bore but easing myself into it since I haven't gotten clearance for more than biking/walking yet and haven't exercised on about 8 yrs. Going 3x week for about 45 min. Enough to do cardio and a few leg reps. I'm 8 weeks post-op today. Have been losing about 5 lbs week. Since I've started exercising it's dropped to at least half that. I know yes I'm still losing but I haven't increased my calories. Still between 500-700 most days (Some days are less than 500) and 60g protein. What am I missing?

I am lucky in that I’m allowed to mix protein powder with water during my clear liquid phase for both pre- and post- op, but my pre op clear liquids lasts for a week. I would love your clear liquid protein drink suggestions, especially if they can be purchased in single- bottles or brick and motor stores.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated ? I have been working out 6 days a week doing 45 minute kickboxing which burns about 500 calories. The classes are intense but I just can not get my heart rate up high to burn a lot of calories like some other women there. My heart rate is also super quick to slow down during the short rest periods in between rounds. I have been taking double classes just to increase fat burn and calorie loss but every time I have done that, I end up with a raging headache all night and morning. Tylenol doesn’t fix it...it literally keeps me from sleeping. I feel nauseous and weak. I burn about 950 calories in those double classes and I eat …

Hi, It has been a year since my sleeve and I feel like such a failure. I’ve only lost approx 40lbs since surgery. Will the liquid phase I’ve lost 80-90 lbs. While some might be happy, I have a LOT to lose. HW 430 lbs, S.W. 365lbs, current 320lbs and it’s remained there for 4-5 months. I’m so disappointed in myself and feel like I’ve failed. I have the option to get a revision from sleeve to bypass... has anyone done this? Is it worth it? I’m just worried I still won’t lose ? Thoughts?

Hi all, i hope you are all doing well!! I’m 11 days post gastric sleeve. Everything was going fine until today when I’ve been struggling with extreme pain around my main incision. My tummy around it seems to be very sensitive to the touch & swollen, although the wound itself looks fine. I’ve reduced my painkillers to half today which I’m thinking might be the problem. I’m wondering is it normal to have such extreme pain 11 days out around the main incision? And whether the painkillers have just been really masking it to now? any hell would be much appreciated! Thanks all, Ophelia.

Wondering if anyone else has had these problems. I had my surgery 9/4 and everything went really well. I had no problems starting my puree diet, no problem eating or anything and then about a week ago things changed. Now I'm having all sorts of issues...and I'm really bummed. I can barely eat anything now without my stomach feeling like it has a rock in it. I'm also throwing up when I never did before. I'm also always hungry. I also most feel like just going back to a liquid diet for now. I won't see my nutritionist until the 16th for a meal plan. Also, my stomach growls terribly but only when I eat and when I eat I have gas. But I think those things are normal? Mos…

I’m trying to transition from liquids to puréed food and feeling not so well today. Thinner purées like apple sauce are mostly alright but thicker foods like Greek yogurt can cause intense pain under my sternum because the air I swallow can’t work it’s way out. It’s breathtaking and stops me in my tracks. Is it too soon? I’ve reached out to my surgeon but in the meantime, do you have any input? I’m just worn out today and not feeling good at all.

For the last few days I have had this constant hunger pain. Even after I eat. I haven't felt it before. I am just a little over my 3 month bypass surgery date. I noticed it after I stopped taking my Omeprazole. My dr told me to stop after 3 months out. I am starting to think it's not hunger pains, although it really feels like it and maybe something else. I have lost a total of 57 lbs so far with no stalls. Any ideas? I started taking the Omeprazole again today hoping it will go away. It's so uncomfortable. I have a check up next Monday and will talk to him about it as well. Thanks everyone and happy losing!!

I had my meeting with the nutritionist about the program for the pre-op liquid diet and post op diet. I had been mentally preparing myself for what I found online- I would graduated through stages weekly and would be able to introduce solid food after week four. Apparently my program does a six week progression- week one is clear liquids, week two is full liquids, and the next FOUR weeks after is pureed food. Something about that extra two weeks I wasn’t expecting has me feeling very frustrated. Does anyone else’s program do this?

Hi all! I had my surgery August 13th, 2018. Unfortunately there were a few complications but thank goodness all is well now! Since the surgery I have lost 43 pounds. Today was my third post op appointment was was cleared for the stage 4 diet and to head back to work! Yay! My only issue so far is trying to get that protein intake at about 60 g. I’ve tried so many shakes and supplements and have yet to find one that I like. I used to take body fortress before my surgery and my favorites were vanilla, chocolate and cinnamon bun, but now I can’t even handle the taste of those. I’ve discovered ripple nutrition, which is pretty good and my doc said it was ok.…

I’m 1.5 weeks post op. I’ve had no real issues so far, the surgery & healing process have been smooth sailing. I went to the movies with a friend last night, I noticed halfway through the movie that I would get a sharp pain under my left rib cage if I was to breathe deeply. It is not a steady pain, and I don’t even notice it when I breathe normally, but if I take a deep breath it starts to hurt And stops hurting when I let the breath out. Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, pals. The basics first- surgery on August 29 gastric bypass. Two weeks after surgery had partial blockage and went back to beginning. After redoing liquid phase, I have worked up to soft food, which I started a couple days ago. While I did ok on puréed foods- soup, sugar free pudding, etc. but every soft food I have tried has made me very sick. Tuna, turkey, eggs. I throw up violently for about an hour after, then I’m fine. My nutritionist said just to take it slow and we would check in during our 6 week appointment (about a week and a half from now.). Anyone else experience anything like this? Any tips on what you did if you resolved the issue? Thanks…

Question to those who have been here a while. Did anyone experience night sweats? I wake up after about 3 hours of sleep just soaked, sheets, pjs etc. I thought i may have had a low grade fever, and the perceocet, with tylonol was breaking it, but I didn't use it last night. I'm 4 days post op. Thoughts?
