I had a VGS in January 2017. I had very curly for all my life and I'm 61.... My question is that my hair is on the straighter side since the surgery. Has anyone gone from curly to straight after a VGS???

I've asked, I've listened, I've given kind words to "newbies" with similar frustrations and I've seen people be mean to others about this. BUT, I'm close to 5 months, I guess I'm not technically stalled, although the past week I haven't lost anything, but when I look at my numbers for say, August, it looks like I've lost 2 pounds (maybe) a week. Is this normal? Now I seriously saw someone get pissed off and leave a forum because she couldn't deal with people worrying about their weight. I had this surgery and I'm using as the tool as it is intended to be. Recently I have upped my water a lot, I now walk very briskly 4+ miles a day plus yoga and strength training (I'…

Has anyone had to fully take care of themselves when you get back home from surgery? Yesterday my husband had to go to the ER while I was in surgery for severe abdominal pain. Right now he's waiting to have a CT to see if it is appendicitis. UGH! He's so worried that he won't be able to take care of me if he does. If he has surgery we have to take care of each other somehow. We don't have family in town who could help us out.

As I sit here sipping yet another protein shake in prep for surgery next week it got me thinking. For all you post ops how much are you spending on food now as compared to pre surgery? I understand you're eating much less but how much is that offset by costs if your consuming protein, vitamins, better foods, etc? Please do not reply in dollar amounts but as a monthly percentage of what you spent pre op. Have a great weekend.....

Hello! I apologize for asking a question that I'm sure has been asked before, but as I'm awaiting returning to work on Monday for back to school teacher workshops before students arrive the following week, I've been so anxious and nervous about how I'll react and what I'll say to people who comment on my weight loss. I'm a very private person, my decision to have WLS was a complex one and not something I feel like discussing with all my coworkers. I feel like it's inevitable that people will comment, and I just really don't want it to be an ongoing conversation. It frustrates me that losing weight all of a sudden makes your body "up for discussion", like people thin…

So my bypass surgery was on 8/28. Everything went well I woke up in the worst pain. Luckily they gave me a pain pump. I just had to remember to push it. Lol I asked everyone what to expect and still wasn’t prepared for the pain. Walking is very tiresome and talk about drinking these liquids is difficult. Sipping every 15 minutes seem impossible. But I’m not hungry. I’m able to pas gas and burping since day 2 but no BM (sorry TMI). Also my period came down super early wasn’t expecting to be bleeding from two areas?? right now. I’m only sleeping for about 4/5 hours wake up, walk, bathroom, check drain then sip and surf the internet til i fall back to sleep. This has been di…

I. AM. GRATEFUL!' I am so grateful for this forum and the people here. I am 16 days post-op and just hit my first mini-stall. I've not had a drop in my weight in 2 days BUT thanks to the people here I am able to stay strong, positive and consistent. Thanks to you, I knew weeks before my surgery that I would have a stall, very likely between week 2 and 4 post op. Thanks to you, I also knew that I should get a fancy scale and track my fat % (still dropping!) Thanks to you I knew that a stall would be most likely to occur when I increased my exercise before I was able to consume more calories. And most importantly, thanks to you I knew it was all going to be OK in…

Just got home from my second stay at the hospital. My initial recovery was going great. Had my VSG on August 10th and had only spent one night in the hospital. Was strictly following my post-op meal plan and even had lost just about twenty pounds. All was fine till one night I felt a sharp pain in the lower right part of my stomach. That pain eventually moved to the center of my stomach. Around midnight I finally called my surgeon's emergency number when I began to feel left shoulder pain. It started as short, subtle jabs and progressively became more and more painful. Eventually becoming the worst pain I've ever felt...like a sword being thrust between my bone and muscle…

obviously you know we have to take a million vitamins and supplements. i’m on my moms healthcare plan, and we have a health equity card. normally vitamins aren’t covered under this- but since the doctor is telling me to take them and i need them to “treat” a deficiency, they could qualify to be covered. i think i’m going to write to my dr and have her write a letter of medical necessity, but in the meantime i was curious if anyone else has experience with this or maybe works in insurance and knows how i should go about getting it covered. thanks in advance!

First things first, I am not some lazy stoner with no life, no. I am a very productive medical marijuana user who mainly smokes at night before bed and yes, I have priorities and a life lol. (sorry I just always get negative feedback, mainly from some family members I told and probably should have never told lol still love em though.) My questions are, how is your funtion with marijuana after being sleeved/bypassed? Were you able to use it for pain relief/sleep aid directly after surgery? Are you less tolerable? Do you get the "munchies" still? Did you smoke it or take an alternative route? Just curious, sorry if I offend anyone. I know it isn't everyone's cup of te…

I had my surgery on 8/1/18. During the pre-surgery diet through the first 2 weeks post op, I was losing 1-1.5 lbs/day, which was awesome! But for the last week I've held steady at the same weight - 340lbs. I'm currently on pureed foods, so I've been trying to go back to more liquids, but I'm still stuck. A week isn't a long time, and I expected to hit plateaus, but I'm surprised I hit one 2 weeks post-op. Anyone else hit one so early? How long do they last? Trying not to get frustrated, but it is hard.

I had gastric band to sleeve surgery, recently I had a mri if the spine and they found a couple of bulging discs there. I’ve been having pretty bad spine pain 4 the past year. I had a steroid shot to rid the pain, but it did little to nothing. The pain can be really painful, as the bulges are in the lower spine. Has anyone heard anything like this? Any thoughts?

So I had my gastric bypass done for months ago and I have now lost 67 pounds since then. But now I seem to be at a standstill for the past 3 weeks and I'm not sure what is going on. How can I jump start my weight loss again? Should I go back to stage 1 and 2 of my liquid diet and see if that helps?

Hey all— I am 5 days post op from sleeve surgery. I finally was able to sleep on both sides and slight stomach sleep last night. I wake up this morning to sharp pain on right side under rib cage with pain radiating to neck/shoulder of same side. Have a hard time taking a deep breath but can if done slowly. No nausea. Sipping water so far today is fine. Thoughts?

I’m wondering is it normal to be gassy after eating. I’m on purée now and almost everything I try gives me gas. I don’t know how to make myself burp either so it’s just stuck there until I finally burp naturally. Has anyone else experienced this sensation. Is it normal? Thanks you!

I'm a bit post post-op (about 20 months after a VSG) and things have been pretty unremarkable since the initial loss. But recently I've had two episodes out of the blue, unlike anything I've experienced before. The first time, I thought I was having a heart attack. A vague nauseous feeling turned into a chest tightness. It was like the wind was knocked out of me and I couldn't breathe beyond tiny gasps for about 20 minutes. Long story short, it wasn't a heart attack and all cardiac tests showed my heart to be working perfectly. Needless to say, it was scary as hell, and the anxiety that I might be having a heart attack was enough to give me one! But then it happ…

I’m 6 weeks post op and transitioning into regular foods. I haven’t had any trouble so far but lately I’ve been craving just a plain burger with ketchup (no bun ofcourse). I just got a burger from Burger King with nothing on it and bunless but I’m a little skeptical about trying it. Has anyone had a burger at this point of their post op?

I’m having a hard time with the liquid phase. I’m only averaging 40 oz of fluids a day. My stomach gets mad with every sip. I’m supposed to start puréed food on Wednesday and it’s driving me nuts to think about. Is it going to be as bad as I think? I have absolutely no appetite.

So I’m almost 3 weeks out. Tried can chicken and it like stayed in the back of my throat so I’ve stayed clear of it. But I’m having trouble with protein shakes and my bowels so I want to eat my protein verses drinking it. I’m eating cheese nips with hummus with no problem but idk if I should even be eating those crackers...I don’t even know what to eat that’s different from the liquid diet I’m on. Positive feed back only please

I've been very diligent about measuring everything since my surgery in June. I'm 2 months post op now and tried an egg scramble for the first time today. It had 1 egg and about 2 ounces (or what I thought was) of soft turkey sausage crumbles, skim mozzarella shredded cheese, and diced soft veggies. I ate slow(ish) and chewed. About 5 minutes after the meal I started to feel horrid... like I had eaten a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people. I looked at my measurements and I had screwed up ( I thought the portion looked a little big, but I just attributed it to not having worked with eggs since surgery). I had ingested around 4 ounces of food (twice what I normally would have)…

Is this normal? I had my band to sleeve surgery Friday morning. Not that there’s much to puke... it was just dry heaving at first but now I’m throwing up the liquids I drank 2 hours ago before my nap. i also have a pounding headache every time I nap. they gave me Zofran but it’s not doing anything. Also Percocet, which they told me to stay on top of to manage the pain but honestly the pain is fine... it’s the puking that scares me...

So I’m not sure if anyone can really help me with this question cause I know everyone is different and I’m a baby. But I keep hearing people saying the were in excruciating pain waking up after surgery. I had a hysterectomy and they went in lap so my abdomen was blown up as well. When I woke up from that I was ok I mean it hurt but not as bad is making it out to be and that worries me. As for the gas pain I do remember that just being uncomfortable but nothing crazy. I just would like to know so u can try my best to prepare myself.

Ok, so 2 hours after I had a glass of milk last night I had cramps and fever. I’ve been on the pot every 1/2 hour ever since. I’m now pooping dust but still have diarrhea cramps. Fever has gone up and down. I was doing great with liquid intake up until last night but so turned off by drinking much except water. Should I go get an iv bag for hydration? How do you know you’re dehydrated? I’m going to call dr but I know some of you have gone back to get fluids... what were you feeling to make you think you were dehydrated? Thanks guys!

So coming up on my 4 month post sleeve I needed going back in to have my gallbladder removed. Yep I’m that lucky 25% ish of WLS patients who need it removed. I had asymptotic stones prior to surgery but the loss of almost 80lbs in 4-5 months likely is what tipped it to angry and needing the gallbladder out. Surgery and recovery are less painful than the sleeve so far. However the pain leading up to needing it removed was no joke. Leading up to needing it out had me at urgent care who sent me to ER who ended up passing me off with a if it pain gets worse or additional symptoms to come back. The Mr and I weren’t happy. Went to my sleeve’s surgeons office the next…

I am now at 3 weeks post-op with a gastric sleeve. My pre-op weight was 355.5 and I now weigh 344. I thought the highest loss was at the beginning, but I have been at 344 for almost 2 weeks. I am at soft foods now: scrambled eggs, refried beans, bean soup, milk, soft veg like squash, cooked onions, tomatoes, etc. Also Greek yogurt. I am now hitting about 600 calories average; a bit more or less some days but definitely can feel the new stomach restriction and try to avoid feeling it. My only problem right now, is because I needed 2 weeks of Lovenox injections, the whole of my pannus is purple and red, and has been very tender. I see the surgeon for a second follow up and…

I am just wondering who out there has had breast reduction surgery after losing some weight. I was originally referred a couple of years ago but the surgeon wouldn't touch me with a 10-foot pole since my BMI was 55 at the time. She wanted me to get my BMI down to around 40 before she would consider me for surgery. Well, fast forward 2 years and my BMI is now 44 and dropping and I would really like to pursue this before the end of the year (as my insurance deductible has already been met for the year). Has anyone else had the surgery before hitting goal? Any before and after pictures to share (with clothing on)? I am really excited to possibly be able to get this done soon…

I am 1 week and 1 day post op Gastric Bypass. Today I started puréed food. Everyone talks about how fast they get full. I know I’m probably over thinking this BUT I had 1/2 of a Greek yogurt around 1:00 and around 6:00 I had a 1/2 cup of a creamy soup. In between I also kept up with my protein shake. I’m comfortable but not over full at all like everyone made it sound that I would be. Can anyone give me a little idea what you are or were taking in around this time please :)

Hey everybody, So I have a question, how many grams per portion do you scoop on your plate ? For example yogurt , how many grams do you eat? I want to measure my food again. So I started with 100 grams, it was a satisfying portion but I could eat a bit more but I don’t want to push it (8 days post op now)

I will spare you on the details but man what a night I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy! I am 4 weeks PO today from VSG revision. From about 11:30pm until about 4:30am, I was up every 5 to 10 minutes....I KID YOU NOT pissing out of my @ss. I am waiting for word from my surgeon's office in the mean time but I feel like I got hit by a truck. I suspect it's gastroenteritis because my husband is home sick passed out on the couch right now with similar symtoms. He had it all day yesterday. I know I need my nutrients to get back everything I lost but I can't even try to look at the blandest of the bland broth right now (baiatric pal protein chicken broth and beef broth). I ha…
