Just left the hospital and wow...I'm really hurting. My new little stomach keeps spasming (the meds they gave for that don't help as much as they should.) Any tips on dealing with this? So far this whole thing is sucking hard in a bad way.

So I had bypass with hiatal hernia repair and now have a JP drain which is driving me nuts! Did anyone have one of these also? He put it near the hiatal hernia site so its a bit higher on my abdomen, and man I can feel it. Im like what is that feeling? Kinda feels like something is stuck in my esophagus. Im not sure how deep the drains go but im definitely starting to think thats what it is. I get it removed on 8/7/18 and the day cannot come fast enough! Did anyone feel like there was something stuck in that area or restrictions? As ive been healing the more I can feel it.

I was sleeved on July 3rd, incisions look really good and surgeon says they are healing very well. No stitches outside all Dermabond. My question is- How long should it take for the glue to come off? A couple of the incisions are starting to peel on the edges and are super itchy! Especially if it rubs on my clothes. I just want to know how much longer I might have to deal with it

Hi there! I am getting ready for my surgery a week from today and feeling pretty excited. I know I am not someone who deals with change really well, so I am trying to prepare the best I can. Just curious how most of you felt right after surgery (day and week of) so I can try to anticipate what is coming. I know I can't plan everything, but trying to do what I can to help myself.

So today marks my 3rd day post op. I guess I just have a few things of concern and wanted to see if anyone experienced this also. Near the main incision where most of the work was completed there is swelling above it, a few inches. I know a lot of his work was done there, bypass and the hiatal hernia repair the rest of the incisions are fine. It almost dents downwards like in a slope to the incision. Of course im going to see him on Tuesday for my drain removal and I will ask again. Did anyone experience more swelling in other areas? This area always feels "tight" too. Also before I went into surgery I was having a bit of a sinus issue, when I got out I notice…

Hey all, I don't post much, (mostly lurk) in fact this may be the 1st post I've created. I had gastric bypass on 6/4. From surgery to the 2nd week of July I lost 36lbs. Then it stopped. Surprisingly it wasn't as stressful as I imagined it would be. Today the scale FINALLY moved! 1.5lbs, I'll take it! At 2 months out I still feel like I struggle to get all my liquids and protein in. Whatever I do eat I track in MFP. I work full time and have 3 children my youngest is only 1yr old. I wonder if my struggling is why my stall was so long. How long did your stall last?

Maybe I took it literal, or maybe too literally when they said walking is super important. So of course my ass calls my doctor post op day 2 and Im like "can I get on the treadmill if I have it at the lowest setting"? They were a little taken back but I dont understand why I guess. Maybe they just meant get up and walk around sometimes. Im afraid of popping something on the inside now that I think of it and they told me to "relax and take it easy". I just feel like everyone has made such a big to do about walking and omg you have to walk and omg this and that. So now when I mention a treadmill its like im insane. The max I did was 15 minutes broken up into 5 min incr…

I’m seven days post-op, and I think I’m healing well. Minimal pain and doing okay on the liquid diet (some head hunger but no nausea or anything like that). I’m feeling very blah, though. Not depressed or exhausted but really flat and lacking motivation to do even small things. Is this normal?

I’ve been 263lbs for 2 fkn weeks!! I only eat plain meat and premier protein shakes and I drink just water sometimes I add crystal light. I workout at the gym like a dog burning 500cals 4-5days a week, yet I’m stuck. I’m so pissed I just want to inject pure syrup into my veins ? I thought it was simple math & science cut carbs (mine are at 0) more calories going out than coming in which I burn more calories than I eat. So how the holy hell am I able to maintain my weight? It’s not even supposed to be scientifically possible It’s fkn crazy!!! there’s people who would have lost 20 lbs eating like this and I can’t lose 1lb eating like this and with a bypass. I’m so frustrate…

So I’m 7 days post op and realizing while I sit here recovering just how many food commercials are on TV.... and then how many are on social media as well! This really has brought up some feelings in my head (and I know this process is a psychological one). My question is does anyone have any recommendations for good books that address food addiction/breaking free from obesity lifestyle? Any help is appreciated!

Hi, in my pre op stage I purchased a lot of sugar free popsicle, Jello etc. Someone said don't buy so much, of course I didn't listen. I was doing good until after my surgery I tried my best to eat that sugar free I just couldn't. My 5th day post op I'm dehydrated. If I didn't eat regular popsicles and regular jello and drinking tea and lemonad. I would be back in the Hospital. I only have one kidney, that's working at 80%. I had to look at the whole picture the reason why I was going to the dietitian and sugar free diet was to shrink my liver. I'm over that stage now I'm trying to heal from surgery. I'm not worried about losing weight right now, that will come later. M…

I had surgery 7/24, drank smooth move tea with no results, finally had a dose of Milk Of Magnesia before bed last night and this morning 7/29 got great results with no straining. My Dr office recommended MOM with prune juice but it worked for me without the juice. I feel much better and relieved that all is working. Good luck.

Hello, I'm new to this. I just had gastric bypass surgery on July 23rd. They had to give me an insulin shot because my sugar levels were off. I'm not diabetic. I've noticed that my nearsightedness has changed. I wear glasses, but have to remove them to see anything up close, especially my phone. I'm wondering if this is normal and will wear off. I work on computers a lot, so I'm a little leery.

Hi guys. I am 8 days post op, having had a gastric sleeve and hiatal hernia repair. I know I'm supposed to be getting my protein, but I AM NOT HUNGRY AT ALL. I'll think "I need to eat" but then I'm not physically hungry at all. I can't get down a single protein shake. I can drink water and Crystal Light lemonade all day long, but anything else I'm just not hungry... Any ideas???

Hi, I'm thinking about seeing a dietitian for 12 more months.(More money I'm worth it!) I'm 5 days post op VSG. I want to take advantage of the first 12 months when you lose most of your weight. I'm thinking about getting a new dietitian that didn't put me on a diet to shrink your liver. I'm trying to see what's going to work for me. Aug. 26 Will be one month out that's when I can start going back to the gym and my weight loss journey begins for me mentally. Is there anybody will continue seeing a dietitian?

Hello everyone! I’m 12 days post op , down 14 days & I must say recovery has gone great! I’ve migrated to Purée foods on Day 10 & have been able to tolerate all that I’ve tried thus far. No issues, no complaints or any complications. Blessed! My hardest feat has been getting my 60 oz; in and I do that by starting early in the am and sip alllllllllll day! I get protein shakes in between that as well. Good luck to all those waiting for surgery! Best decision ever.

Hi everybody. One week out of surgery, and my nutritionist recommended I maintain the clear liquid diet for two more weeks. I came across this clear protein drink, incredibly delicious and does not cause me any problems. I just find an issue balancing with drinking protein and drinking water. Anybody else struggling with that? And does anybody have any recommendations regarding how I can maintain the balance? Thanks!

I was sleeved on 7/24, I was very ill from the anesthesia so I earned an extra day in the hospital. My doctor, of course, encouraged me to walk, and I am trying. I got home Thursday and walked very little (I was still a little iffy). Friday I was able to only get about 2k steps in, and the same for Saturday. Saturday evening my incision pain went from a 3 to a 9, it was extremely sharp, almost knife-like so I called my PCP. I was told to just avoid the pain meds (afraid vomiting would make it worse), lay low on Sunday, and use the heating pad as much as possible. I worked on Monday (I work at home, and it's mostly at my desk), but made sure that I did move a bit dur…

I'm almost 1 week post-op. The swelling in my belly is going down, but I've been getting pain from stretching, mostly in my sleep when I'm laying down. I've noticed hard lumps under 2 of my incisions. They're higher up on the belly. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Other than that, I'm exercising daily and doing everything I'm supposed to be doing. Just my sleep is lacking.

I was sleeved on 9/11 . My incisions are pretty much all healed great. No problems swallowing or anything. The only problem is to the left of my belly button on the inside where my doctor said there is a stitch . Don't seem to be easing up at all . After sitting for a bit and then standing up is just the worst pulling, burning feeling like a rope ripping. And then after I'm up it will slowly subside. It's terrible though . My doctor said it was normal but everyone I know that's had this has not experienced this . Has anyone here ?

Well I had my surgery 7/27 7:30am and it lasted 2 hrs. I actually didn’t have to have my hernia repaired wasn’t that bad to be touched. I tolerated liquids once I woke up from surgery, no vomiting. Th next day while in Hospital I had purée stage and I measured my food by medicine cups (1oz), I sipped my liquids. I was able to go home Saturday 7/28 @9pm. I came home was able to lay on my sides or back not my stomach. Day 2 post-op I was able to tolerate scrambled egg 2oz, sipped water after 30mins.. I took my blood thinner injection and my gallbladder medicine so it won’t get gallstones...I took my anti acid, I took my vitamins spaced them out a few hours apart. I’m ao pro…

I had surgery 5 days ago, healing well and have had no issues drinking my liquid diet or getting my water down. I just discovered if I eat to large a portion of soup to fast I will feel sick to my stomach and have chest pains. I think this was possible a dumping episode, I ended up lying down for an hour and feel much better now. Lesson learned, small amounts and slow the hell down.

I talked to about 3 gastric bypass patients who drink ginger ale and said that there doctor said that's the only soda OK to have. Hmmm mines said all is a no no. My oldest brother from my father side, he and his wife both had the gastric bypass , way before I thought of having it and i they both eat sweets, drink sodas, like I thought you could dump? But if it's true that you can dump , why have the surgery? Continue on self destructing. Yani Their doctor not there forgive me Yani

Hi everyone, I had my sleeve done on 7/17 and I’ve been okay with drinking everything but water really. I just woke up and was really thirsty so I poured myself 8 ounces of fat free milk. Before I knew it I had drank all of of it. I mean in like two minutes. My stomach feels a little bloated but I don’t feel “sick”. I can also eat two sugar free pops back to back. Have I stretched my sleeve or could I be at risk of a leak? I’m just worried that I’m doing too much too soon.

Any body else out there have great success with their surgery? Up and walking evening of surgery, walking 5+ laps around the unit 5x a day, mild nausea, no vomiting, no dumping. Controlled pain at home (still on narcotics 2 times a day - mostly for sleep). While my surgeon is so very pleased (and me too) and says I'm doing, "above average" I cant help but think my body wont help me with things I shouldn't eat. It's still early, but mildly disappointing. I'm on Stage 2 *all liquids* but I feel like my stomach is ironclad UNLESS I'm missing a sign or feeling (which could be possible). When you eat something that doesn't sit well or your stomach disagrees, what does it feel…

Well I know surgery messes with everything but I find my bowel movements very off. I had surgery a month ago and I almost never have bowel movements. I've only have had maybe about 4 or 5 since surgery. I'm not constipated but they have me prescription for constipation that I haven't taken once, should I try them and see what happens because I know it's not healthy if I don't have movements. surgery: April 28th~~~current weight loss 20 pounds

Just wanted to post to let current post op folk know that this will happen & all of us experience it. I can’t wait for this to be over. I had gastric bypass on Monday. Everything went well, I was able to come home on Wednesday. Thursday, I started having uncontrollable bowel movements. Basically every sip of fluid or protein drink just went right through me. Called the hospital and got a script for some meds because they said basically the antibiotics they gave me in the hospital had killed the good bacteria in my gut too. Friday morning went into the surgeon’s office and they said everything looked good and just to continue the meds they called in (I also added some probiotics to help). This evening (Friday), I started throwing up as well. Only thing I’ve had in over 24 hours is watered down apple juice…

So, anyone have tooth sensitivity after sleeve? I've read about dental issues with bypass, but I can't find anything about issues with sleeve. I'm one month post-op, and I would say that it started about two weeks ago. I'm on full liquids and go to the puree stage next week. I thought maybe it was the crystal light I was drinking (too acidic) so I stopped that. It's just with really hot or really cold beverages. I've only had one cavity in my entire life, so the idea of all of my teeth going to he** scares me to death.

Has anybody else been concerned about losing to much weight? I’m 6 days post op and I’m down 13 pounds so far and I’m already off my blood pressure medicine and haven’t had to use my nebulizer..of course I choose the procedure mostly because my healthy was failing but the pass few days I’ve been thinking about losing to much weight..I was hoping to lose 80 pounds that’s it hoping to get down to 200 and keep some of my curves...I never wanted to be skinny but I can’t stop thinking about it especially after today the guy told me I have no control over how much weight I lose...how do you maintain your weight once you meet your goal?

Today is my 3rd day Post Op. Had my surgery on Monday. Overall, I am doing good! My surgery went great! I am moving around ok. My pain level is normal. My greatest pain is the biggest insertion site. The gas pain is slowly going away. It is mostly in my chest and shoulders. Taking the chewable Gas X. I mostly slept all day once I came home from the hospital. I did not meet my protein nor liquids goal yesterday. I plan to meet it today. My biggest challenge is my meds. Getting them down in the crushed state! They are just plain NASTY!! I am happy to begin this second part of my journey and have been feeling at peace.
