Hi I’m a 43 year old female who weighs 75kg. I am 158cm tall and I had a gastric sleeve done in June 2017. I am apparently one of the few who has not lost a single kilo since my surgery. In fact, I was at 69kg when I got it done so if anything, I’ve put on 6kg since. My doctor has offered me a gastric bypass which I have accepted and booked in. I have a really sweet tooth which is my biggest issue. I just can’t stop. Just wondering, what is it really like to have a sweet tooth then suddenly get a bypass? If you had your chance, would you have gotten it or is this one of your biggest regrets? Please do not criticise me because you feel I am not he…

How much does muscle gain impact weight loss? I am weight training 5-6 days a week on a 3 muscle group cycle. Also training for a 5K and my intervals are getting faster and easier. I have been steadily increasing my weights in all muscle areas. And, I am also on a weight loss stall that I can't explain much, so that makes me wonder. Edit: On my phone, and I thought I put this in the fitness group.

I am 5 months post op and at a weight where I can finally run again without hurting my joints. I can run a mile without stopping which is a sheer miracle. I absolutely love running but I'm afraid now that I am consistent with it, I will begin to gain muscle and I may gain weight. I know that's dumb. How do you battle the scale and weight loss while also working out and building muscle? I don't know why but I'm so afraid I'll stop losing weight. I have 25 pounds to go, so I know I'm close and I don't want to mess it up!

Hey everyone. I just had my surgery on Monday the 23rd. It went well. I woke up with a lot of pain and apparently had a esophageal hernia they had repaired that I didn't know I had. So of course there was extra pain which gave me the instant regret. I have little to no pain right now just kind of sore. But I would like some words of encouragement. I just I'm kind of scared for what the future has in store if that makes sense. I don't know if anybody else feels like this but I would really appreciate some encouragement.

I had my VSG yesterday, so far so good. No nausea, hardly any pain. I have been walking a lot to alleviate the gases, but I do have 1 concern, sometimes when I drink a liquid I feel a constriction between my breasts... almost feels like water is fighting with gas?? Any help or ideas?

Hello. I am a first-time poster who's searching for answers. I am almost 30 days post-sleeve surg and am not losing weight, despite limiting my calories to 700 and taking the vitamins. The twenty pounds I lost occurred in the first two weeks and since then I've inexplicably gained three pounds. I use the Bariastic app to log every morsel and sip and try to hit the water, protein daily goals. I ate more and lost more doing Weight Watchers! I am not exercising much but shouldn't I lose even without the gym? Frustrating. The doctor says to just stick with it, but I sure would like some suggestions from the wisdom of this forum. Thanks for listening to me whine, everybody.

Hi everyone! I had my op 4 days ago. Still sore around scars and getting trapped wind pain. Trying to take short walks but finding it a bit of a struggle. Just wondering how everyone else felt pain-wise and what pain meds worked best for you? Also how did starting exercise go?

So I just finished my first post op breakfast. 1 oz Cream of wheat, which i didn’t finish and 1 oz SF pudding. Yummy, i adore the teeny spoons they gave me to eat with. I’m really sore in the abdomen and it’s hurts a lot to stand but overall it’s good. Hope to be released to go home this afternoon.

Ok. So I am 3 weeks post op. I decided I didn't want to be on puree anymore and jumped to normal (healthy) food - definitely supplementing with protein shakes. I am tolerating everything well. I am just listening to my body and taking it slow but I am definitely eating ahead of schedule by a couple of weeks. Am I a terrible person?

I'm one month (almost) post-op and having NO issues with drinking my water or my shakes. I'm easily getting in about 100 ounces of fluids per day and 80-90 grams of protein. Greek yogurt (4 ounces yesterday for dinner) and jello aren't an issue either. That being said, this "ease" concerns me. I haven't felt restriction really at all. I'm looking ahead at the eating plan, and I'm afraid the 1 ounce of meat won't cause any restriction for me. I start the puree stage next week.

Woot! Today I reached 100 pounds lost. It is difficult to wrap my mind around. The other day I hauled a 40lb bag of dog food upstairs - and the thought that I have lost 2.5x that amount is both impressive and unsettling. I'm including a screenshot of my before and after SmartBMI calculations. If I'm feeling brave enough, I may post a before and after body shot in the stickied thread. Thank you to all of you nice folks at BP for being supportive, especially in my more distressed times.

Hey guys! So I had gastric bypass on Aug. 14.2017. I was 249 starting, on surgery date I was 239 and today I am 208.8lbs. I see everyone in here who’s weight is literally falling off! They do nothing and the weight still comes off. While all the weight I’ve lost so far, I put work in! I go to the gym everyday and do cardio for an hour! And I still don’t lose as much as other people. And now, my weight hasn’t changed since last week, school and depression got in the way and I didn’t work out for 5 days. But I can’t even say I lost a pound despite how little I eat. So this is what I ate yesterday: breakfast was a premier protein, dinner was 44g of an avocado and 1 lar…

I need input. My nut gave me a schedule to eat something every hour from 8am til 9pm. Protein, water or 1oz of puree food alternating. I absolutely cannot get it down. It takes me 1 hour almost to get something down and if I go any faster it comes back up. Funny thing now I absolutely hate water that comes back up no matter what I do. I'd just like to hear from others. Oh and one more thing I am super tired. I push myself to walk around the block. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

The first two days I didn't say it, but mentally I wont even lie, I was regretting my decision. I was in a lot of pain the first two days. I maxed out every medication I could take. Usually I have a very high tolerance for pain - except when it comes to stomach issues. I've never dealt with stomach issues very well. I found it difficult to watch or listen to the TV and I didn't want to move from the bed. I was kept an extra night because of it. I was walking in short bursts, but realized that walking was the best thing for me. I know they tell you that but at the time it kinda feels like they are pushing you to start exercising when you feel like you're not in…

I am 6 days out from my sleeve surgery. Feeling great! I have a very dear friend coming in town who wants to meet up for dinner in 2 weeks. For reasons I dont even want to go into on here, I do not want to tell her about my WLS. I will be in the “soft foods stage” ... is there somewhere I can go out with her and not blow my cover?

So I spent last night in the local ER in excruciating pain from a kidney stone - my very first! My surgical team tells me that, low and. Broke, this is “very common” after WLS, including VSG. Any experience with this out there? Any advice on prevention (other than hydration)?

Hi all, I’m new to the site. I came across this last week though I had RNY on 6/11/18 so today I am 6 weeks post op. It has occurred to me I have no target goals for where I should be and when. Was this something your surgeons had put together for you? And, even if you did or didn’t, do you set up little “prizes” each time you hit a milestone? For context I am exactly 40 lbs down post surgery. Is that normal? Where should I expect to be in 4.5 months? (6 months post surgery) I’m still 90 lbs from my long term goal weight.

Has anyone experienced unexplained insomnia after surgery? I am 2 1/2 months out and for the last 3-4 weeks I am only getting about 4-5 hours of sleep per night. I go to bed at the normal time and read for a few minutes until I feel sleepy but once I turn off the light I completely wake up and lay there for several hours. I sometimes get up and sit on the couch but it does not help. I still get up at 0615 so we can walk before it is too hot and do not nap during the day. Take the same magnesium supplement at bedtime that I have used for several years, no other meds except my vitamins, omeprazole and calcium, none of which I take near bedtime. Saw my Dr. on Mo…

So, I'm a little over four weeks post-op and have lost twenty pounds since surgery, fifteen of which was in the first week. I was a little down at not losing anything for three weeks straight... but I measured my waist on impulse this morning and I'm two inches less than a month ago!? I don't even know if that's normal, but I'm rather pleased with it. Just felt like sharing the happy today.

Anyone else find they started losing motivation and struggling to get back on track? The last month or so I've been eating things I probably shouldn't & completely stopped exercising. I could say it's stress or some life events or mental health hurdles, but honestly I hate excuses and I won't accept them from myself. So I've decided to go back to basics, which is why I'm here, to get advice once again. So has anyone else hit the 5th month slump? Any thoughts on how to get motivated again (and stick with it)? Also would love ideas for vitamin alternatives/reminder tricks because I'm god awful at remembering my multi & calcium!

ok I may be having a moment of buyers remorse. I had surgery 12/5. I cannot say I have enjoyed one thing I have put in my mouth since 11/24. Well maybe the fruit smoothie but then found out it wasn't on my approved list due to sugar content.Even some Soups or egg or things I may have enjoyed in the past have not seemed as "good". I don't know if this is because my tastes have changed, I am burnt out on soups and softs or its the fact that i barely get a good taste of it. This has led me to think about a few things. I decided on the sleeve, after I had been very anti surgery as I felt it was successful mostly due to restriction or portion control. Much like the lap ba…

I get terrified if I'm not close to he bathroom after eating because I never know how my stomach will react. Any advice would be so appreciated!!

Unfortunately my story is rather unique.. I had to have a “revision” surgery and Gallbladder removal after falling ill almost 4 weeks out of my original GB surgery in June . After the second surgery I was given a JP drain for the first time. As of now it’s been removed but there are days where i still wake up in pain similar to the pain i was having WITH the drain. Now i understand how gravity works and how sometimes depending on the way that you move can cause you pain in that area in which you had surgery .. after all it’s only been a little over a week. However, sometimes i just wonder has anyone else experienced this pain ... if so how was it for you and how did you d…

Hi all after 40days from post op been so difficult to drink and eat in my case but i try my very best to keep myself hydrated. I was 111kg before my op and now at 105kg it seems to be at the same weight since 2 weeks. I wonder if it has stalled or will it take more time to react to a weight loss. Today i had a strange sharp pain on my op area and i realized having my periods there after it was a heavy flow for one time and then it was reduced to very little. I got worried and will be seeing my surgeon tmr incase its a leakage that occured. Anyone had the same symtoms as mine. Do share your experience. Have a great day ahead. [emoji4]

The pain started around around 3 pm on July 20th 2018. Considering, I thought I was already through the bad part directly after surgery... Now 7 hours later I already tryed getting comfortable laying down which is when I tosed my cookies. I desided I needed to call the doc. He did not seem to be two worried. Telling me everything was normal. The pain the throughing up. I waited for my dad to get home to take my son. I got to the hospital at 12:01 am. Now I have a history of blood clots so that raised flags. We started out with blood work and a cat scan. Then moved into a ultra sound. Come to find out I was being admitted. The docs found gallstones in my gallbladder. The w…

I have spent the past three days throwing up anything solid I have tried to introduce to my stomach. The first day I had broccoli and today grilled chicken. I eventually end up throwing up the food I eat. The food feels lodged on my chest and it feels tight and uncomfortable. I am frustrated being able to only drink soup and liquids. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I had sleeve surgery in April 2015 and I was doing great. I was 235 on my surgery day and I got to my lowest post surgery weight last year, 152. I am now 173 and completely stuck. My goal has always been 135 but now I just want to get back to 152. I felt and looked healthy there. I feel gross and like a complete failure now. My question is how do you continue to lose weight? Any tips to keep motivated? I don’t know anyone who has had wls surgery that I can ask or confide in. Thanks, Tiff

I got the surgery at 18 and I’m now 19 and I feel like a failure . Please please please help .. oh and any workout routine suggestions will help !

Apologies in advance for this topic. I am 2.5 months post-op. For the past month I have been having irregular bowel movements. And recently the last three bowel movements were very painful, a little bloody and large (ugh sorry!). I have called the doc’s office, but would like to hear from those of you who have dealt with this. I have Colace and powder Miralax at home. Which would you take? Which is safer? Thank you! I am dreading the next bm. This morning’s felt like giving birth to a porcupine ! Lol

Hi there, I am looking for some input here. I had a VSG in May 2017. Weight loss has been steady (you can see in my sig). It slowed down significantly as I got closer to goal weight (which I expected - no problem). But now it has basically stopped. I have been fluctuating between 180 and 184 for several weeks now. I started at 335 so I have accomplished more than I ever expected and would be on the high end of a normal BMI at 165. I am healthy, fit, strength train and really happy. That said, I would like to get down another 20 lbs and it's not happening I am taking new actions (mostly getting back to the basics of calorie management) - but I…
