Had VSG on 4/17 so far down 50lbs but sometimes when I eat I get heartburn or at night I feel real hungry but i know I’m not. Does anyone here take Zantac? Tums only help for a little bit.

Some heartburn or reflux is common for a while after the VSG, common enough that many/most surgeons prescribe a PPI such is Prilosec for a while after surgery. As you have seen, Tums only goes so far. An H2 inhibitor such as Zantac or Pepcid is better and works fine for us, and if that does the job for you, it is preferable to the PPIs as they seem to have a more benign history of longer term side effects. If Zantac/Pepcid up to twice a day doesn't do the job, then talk to your doc about a PPI.

My surgeon has me taking a PPI for the first few months. I was already on Nexium so that's what he kept me on but he always puts his patient on omeprazole for at least two months post-op. I haven't had reflux so far and I had it very badly pre-op.

I wonder why my surgeon didn’t prescribe me any acid reducers. I’m calling them right now.
