Please advise or share your story..I had bypass surgery on Feb 5th. I’m down about 35pounds and tons of inches. Anyway I have problems with arthritis and sciatic pain. So I know we can’t take anitinflammatory meds. What is the world can I do? Now this dreadful plantar fasciitis wants to rear its ugly head. I hurt every single day. I was hoping surgery would help me with all of this pain. Tylenol is worthless!!!! I am miserable. If I can’t get this under control my summer will be ruined there is no way I can work out in this much discomfort. Is any of this familiar to any of you ? If so what did you do or what did your doctor suggest?

  3. I had roux en y last February, I’m over one year out and down 171 pounds and counting! So that’s great ? I had my one year lab results returned and the nurse wants me to talk to my primary about my glucose which was 119 the day of labs. The doctor told me specifically that it was not a fasting lab, and I did eat before the labs. My father had type 2 diabetes but has since managed it and is now only on metformin and no longer needing insulin. My labs before surgery were around 60, which was fasting and I have never dealt with this issue even weighing over 300 pounds and living off of sweets and junk food. Has anyone else experienced this?!

Hey everyone! I’m 6 weeks post op today. I literally have probably only drank maybe 3 protein shakes since my surgery... I’m having the worst time with them. I literally take 2-3 drinks of them and my stomach starts hurting and I start gagging. I’ve tried different kinds as well. Nothing seems to make it better. They all taste really salty to me.. Anyone else having this problem? Or is it just me? (I am still getting my protein intake in throughout the day) but I would like to do at least 1 protein shake a day!

  5. Started by jazzyj13,

I just want to brag a little bit.... Today marks 6 days post op and today has been my BEST day yet!!! I finally feel normal again! I put makeup on, left my house for awhile and felt great!! Decided to weigh myself for the first time and I’m down 14 pounds in 6 days! Wahoo!!! I’ll admit, I was in a slump for a couple of days post op feeling a bunch of negative emotions. Today I’m feeling great! Not to mention, it’s the first day post op that I haven’t had to take anything for pain or nausea!!! Ps....I’m choosing to remain private about my journey with WLS...only telling close family and close friends and I’m so glad I have you guys to relate to!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

  6. I was told I couldn't take a pill larger than a dime (I had RNY). I am taking chewable vitamins no but the procure brand has a capsule but it shows a picture of it the size of a dime. Is anyone here able to take a pill that big. I does say the capsule is a quick dissolving veggie base so I don't think it would get stuck but I'm hesitant to try to swallow anything the size of a quarter yet.

  8. Since yesterday I’ve only been able to eat 1/3 to 1/2 of the portion sizes that I’ve been able to eat for the last 5-6 months. 1/4 cup and I’m done. No pain, no acid, just a very full feeling. I haven’t changed what I’m eating (firm oatmeal, rotisserie chicken breast, cauliflower, broccoli...). I simply can’t eat as much of it at one time. I don’t think this is anything as serious as a stricture because I have no difficulty swallowing water or my giant Citracal calcium pills. Yes, I called my surgery team. The PA will contact me when she isn’t busy seeing patients. Has anyone experienced anything similar months after gastric bypass?

I am going to be having sometime in the future waiting on approval from insurance, but I was wondering how long it is taking people to recover for RNY surgery.

Hello all! I’m 3 weeks post op today. I’m down 16 pounds total. But I haven’t lost a single pound in 9 days. Isn’t it too early for a plateau? I can’t eat anything. Everything gets stuck. Even liquid. It makes me not want to try anything. Still having terrible pain in my right side. I finally see my surgeon tomorrow. If it wasn’t for my diabetes and blood pressure being under control with no meds, I might be rethinking my decision!

I just had my surgery this past Monday (March 11) and am concerned because everything I’m eating (which is basically just jello since I’m on clears) is running through me. I know that this is dumping syndrome. But does it get better the longer out you are from surgery and when you’re getting back to “normal” foods?

Hello all I had my surgery on 12-5-18. I started this journey at 363 last March I am now 280 as of this last week. I am losing my hair, honestly it’s causing me a lot of anxiety and depression. I am taking my vitamins and drinking plenty of water. I push protein. I guess over the course of the last few weeks I am having a really hard time coping with the hair loss. I also am finding myself picking at food I’m not allowed to have, I also get sick from doing it. I know, just stopping picking. It’s not that I’m even hungry I don’t have an appetite at all. Does anyone else experience this? I truly never realized how food is a drug until now.

Hi friends! I just found this group and I love it! I can spend hours on here just browsing and learning new things! My surgery date was 4 days ago on March 12. Does anyone else have that date? It would be nice to have a support friend! For reference, I am a 22 year old female!

Hey everyone! I am scheduled to have my gastric bypass on March 19. I am trying to be as prepared as much as possible. What are somethings that you wish you would of had after surgery when you returned home or what were somethings that you were glad you thought of beforehand? I’ve already stocked up on food and protein drinks that I can have after surgery.

My surgery was 2/26/19 and I’m just always feeling crummy. My incisions have for the most part healed well. But I have a constant ache in my stomach. Sipping fluids hurts eating well chewed foods hurt(sometimes doesn’t stay down) both times it was a meat product. Dr said to move back to purée which i did but the pain is still a constant thing. Anyone else have this happen and how long until I feel normal again? Sometimes i regret this due to this pain.

How many carbs are we allowed a day, or per meal? I've seen alot of variations. It's not on my postop plan anywhere. It only has the required protein.

Hello Forum, This is my first post. March 12 marked a year since my gastric sleeve. I have lost approximately 80 pounds but currently my weight loss has stagnated. Does anyone have any suggestions for overcoming this obstacle?

When you get discouraged, because you have “only lost 5lbs” here is a little perspective. This is what 5lbs looks like. Also, don’t let the number get into your head too much. Look at the whole picture. Measure, you might see changes in places other than the scale. Don’t underestimate non scale victories like wearing a necklace without having to use an extender or your knees not hurting when you walk down stairs.

  19. I got my SADI-S on January 11, 2017 and I have been in a weightloss stall for the past 8months. I am honestly at a total loss for ideas! I make aure to eat over 100g or protein per day, eat lots of healthy fats and very little carbs such as is recommended for my surgery but i am CONSTANTLY STARVING!! I eat between 1400-2200 calories per day, sometimes even more on especially hungry days! I am open to suggestions, constructive criticism... i just need to lose these last 50lbs so i can get my plastic surgeries!! Maybe i’m not eating enough???

  20. I am 6 days out, not feeling terribly bad still a little trouble swallowing due to gas bubble is chest but I have noticed I have a very high pulse rate and difficult to breath with any kind of the slightest exertion is that normal?

Hi friends! New to this group and happy to have found that something like this exists! I had RNY on March 12 (it’s now March 16) and I have some questions.... I’ve been doing pretty good I would say up until today. I had a protein shake upon waking up...went to the grocery store shortly after and started feeling really nauseous. I didn’t end up throwing up, but I was dry heaving a ton! After I got home and laid down awhile, I had another shake (supposed to have 3 a day) and again, felt super super nauseous! This time I didn’t dry heave or anything, I just felt miserable until my nausea meds kicked in. I’m afraid to eat again because it was such a miserable feeling!…

The team introduced me to who was in the room. The anesthesiologist was named Marco and I replied POLO! Lol (I don’t think they like that much) I remember first waking up after my surgery and being in quite a daze. I told the drs “ I had a great nap!” Later on in the recovery room one of the nurses repositioned my bed because my stats were low. I was still a bit woozy and found out that I’d been on fentanyl! My reaction got the reply from a nurse not to worry .... “it’s not the kind you hear in the news”. Up in the room I got escorted with the bed up to the ninth floor which had a better view than my hotel! I was so glad that I asked for a private room. There was…

I had gastric sleeve done at noon on Monday. The surgery itself went fine, but recovery has been god awful. I can barely stand without having horrible pain and I am lightheaded most of the time. I have been able to burp, but no farts. I have to be oxygen a lot as well. Can anyone out there relate to a slow healer?? I feel so discouraged.

Hello there! I am at almost three weeks post surgery and these past couple days have been feeling shakey all day and a little lightheaded when I stand up sometimes. I've checked blood sugar regularly and am in the 90s. I'm getting at least 70 grams of protein and at least 75 ounces or more of water. I have not had much of an appetite at all so I usually eat like 2 or 3 little things besides my protein shakes. Full disclosure - My surgery did not quite go smoothly... They nicked some muscle or something on the way in and didn't know it. I had to have an emergency surgery like 12 hours after my RNY because I had significant internal bleeding. I was kept in the hospital fo…

I’m 3 1/2 weeks post bypass. I ate about 3 oz of fish and 3 hours later tried 1/4 c rectors beans. I got ill and had the foamier. Never want to do that again. It was so painful!! I think it’s because I ate the beans too quickly (I have had them a few times last week without issues. Is it possible I still had the fish in my stomach from 3 hours before. How long does it take fir food to leave the new stomach? I have heard water and yogurt move quickly within minutes.

  30. I've been curious about this for awhile. But the Question is... If I for some reason develop a leak or something and I try to eat or drink something would I be able to feel it?

Hi all I am on Tier 4 of my Gastric Bypass journey and now waiting for the op, however I have heard some really disturbing stories about losing your hair after surgery. Can any one tell me if they have suffered from this? And if so is there anything that I can do to stop this from happening? I am 50 and work in a job where I am staff and client facing so would like to know if these stories that I have heard are true and also whether it happens with the sleeve/bypass etc. Many thanks

  33. I’m 3 1/2 weeks post RNY. I ate some eggs (had them a few times already) but I think I didn’t chew enough. I don’t feel pain in the middle of my chest like most people say but in my left shoulder blade. Anyone else have this? I happened a few minutes after about a tablespoon. I’ve been able to eat 3 oz if tuna or a whole egg in 15-20 minutes and drink fairly easy so this was a surprise.

Hello I had surgery march 4th & everything has been great, sometimes I feel I didn't even have anything done especially when eating. People say it can't happen but I am hungry often. Sucks but it is what it is! Seeing my dietitian this Friday.

Yay! A poop thread! I just *noticed* that I haven't pooped in about 6 days (maybe longer?). I don't feel constipated at all, and the last time I went, I went A LOT multiple times that day, and had been pretty regular prior to that. I hadn't really been paying attention to it because I haven't had any discomfort but... probably need to get something moving. My book says if you haven't gone in 3 days to take Colace, but 6 days to move to a stimulant laxative or enema (NOOOO). I was told NOT to take fiber supplements (don't ask why - I don't feel like debating the logic of my surgeon, I'm just following his instructions). Should I skip right to the stronger stuff since…

I’m 6 (almost 7) months post op. The last few weeks I’ve been experiencing some strange symptoms. My chest hurts when I exhort too much energy, my arm gets numb. I’m extremely tired, can’t walk for long without becoming light headed ? it’s been getting better (the doctor put me on a steroid after running every test in the books) they helped. I ran out and I started becoming shaky while at the store. So I did something I don’t typically do. I bought a Reese’s and ate one and the shaking stopped pretty quickly. Got me thinking that maybe everything has to do with my blood sugar. Every single symptom is listed for hypoglycemia. Has anyone experienced this?

I am having gastric bypass on March 4. I have several medications that I take that have nothing to do with weight loss surgery, and I will add the bariatric vitamins after surgery. I've been told that I will need to crush the pills for a while, and I wanted to hear how people dealt with that. Do you put them in a protein drink, in water, or something else?

Hello All. I am 3 days post VSG and still feeling very nauseous. How long will this last. I am also having a hard time getting all my liquids down. I did outpatient vertical sleeve surgery.

  50. Hi everyone, I had the sleeve done on 2/18/19 and I still have terrible pain under my left boob, in my rib cage area. If I cough, I want to cry it hurts so bad. Many say it is where the stomach was pulled at the largest incision, I can believe that. However, am I the only one that has experienced such pain at 3 week post op? Thank you!! Vikki
