  1. Started by roundisashape,

Hi, I'm still at least 3 months pre-op (I have 3 months to go to fulfill my insurance requirements) but I have been trying some Protein samples. Thought I'd share my opinions! Atkins Daybreak Creamy Chocolate: This is my favorite prepared drink so far, but of course lowest in protein! Not much aftertaste and a good texture. Atkins Advantage Milk chocolate Delight: Not as good as the daybreak version, but drinkable. A little "watery" tasting. Atkins Advantage Strawberry: Chalky, tastes like medicine. Very artificial strawberry flavor. Not good. Muscle Milk Chocolate (powder, not prepared): This, so far, is my very favorite of all of them. Least offensiv…

  2. Pre-op and trying to be faithful to my suppliments. I'm finding I have a very annoying metallic taste in my mouth after I take Calcium Citrate. Anyone have any advice? I've switched brands and it does help a little but they aren't the "citrate" kind so I'm not sure it is strong enough. If you have one (citrate) you've tried, let me know.

I like the HealthSmart Hot chocolate drinks from Nashua Nutrition, but when I look at the ingredients, I'm kind of concerned. I know that whey and Soy Protein are pretty much my two options when it comes to high biological value powders. It looks like the hot chocolate uses the following: Calcium Caseinate, Hydrolyzed Gelatin, Cocoa, Quic Milk, Natural & Artificial Flavor, Salt. Is its protein value derived from the Calcium Caseinate or the Hydrolyzed Gelatin? If the former, how biologically valuable is Calcium Caseinate? If the latter, that's a lower value but not as low as collagen, correct? I just want to make sure that I get an accurate tally of my protein intake …

  7. I couple supplements I found, worth noting! I've heard and read a lot of negativity regarding RTD Protein shots. A lot of them contain either hydrolyzed collagen or a combo of collagen/casein/whey. Seems a lot of folks are on the fence with this, some say its ok and some say junk. But... Good news! There is a totally 100% pure whey isolate shot out there called "YES WHEY". No casein, no collagen. All whey isolate. And it has PDCASS (Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score) of 100, which is as good as it gets. Conclusion? High concentration of good protein per volume. Get your protein on without trying to down big shakes all day. Also, a high quality shake m…

  9. Started by gastricsleever,

Do you just mix the Protein and milk? Or do you blend it with ice, fruit, Peanut Butter, etc? Like when I am in my pre op liquid only phase and post op liquid only, can I add peanut butter and ice with my shake? Or am I supposed to do only the powder and milk? If I add a banana to it, does that count now as a soft food, even though it's blended in to the thickness of a milkshake? Sorry if these questions are silly

6 weeks post op here. Trying to find flavors that will disguise the taste of whey Protein found in the powders. I have to move from pre-mixed shakes to powders because it it cheaper in the long run. Need to watch the $$$$! Bananas + PB2 + chocolate (sugar free syrup) so far is only thing I have found that will cover the flavor of whey. But I don't like all the carbs in bananas. I tried upping the PB2 + chocolate but it gets way too sweet I am also working my way (no pun intended) through the various recipes on this website. However I am using my powders and that is not cost effective. realize that everyone's taste buds differ....but I could sure use some h…

I just received in the mail some calcium supplement that I ordered and it's the best tasting I have yet to come by. The name of it is Adora and comes in 30 count for about $8 a bag. So although it's a bit pricey I totally find it worth the price. I'll also mention that this is NOT calcium citrate so if that is what you are looking for then this isn't the product for you. However I asked my NUT about citrate and she said because I am not getting the gastric bypass, just the sleeve, that I could use any form of calcium but I need to take the recommended amount. The reason I love these calcium disks is because they are milk chocolate and melt in your mouth. They remind me of…

  28. Hi all. I wanted to share the love. I went to the Vitamin Shoppe for the first time yesterday. I was hoping to scope out those nectar Protein drinks I keep hearing about. I wanted to try the iced tea. Well, guess what!? They had the lemonade and crystal sky (a blue 'punch') on sale 50% off. I was told it was being discontinued. So it was 19.98! I bought one of each flavor and, though not as good as a non-protein drink like crystal light, it was certainly better than my chocolate protein. The lemonade was the best of the two. I had to ignore the smell (it has they whey scent) and the cloudy color, but the taste was mild and definately hints of lemonade. I'll take it! Th…

I was using EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control but it started to make me break out. So today I went to GNC and they were having a sale on their own brand of Protein powders, Lean 25 ($19.95 for the first one, then 50% off the second one). I was actually greatly surprised by how good they were! I bought Peppermint Mocha and pumpkin Spice and they are awesome! They also sell Cinnamon Apple and Key Lime Pie flavors, as well as the standard chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla. I think there was also a Cookies and cream. Lots of good Fiber in them, too! Just thought I'd make a suggestion!

So, I've read the unflavored is undetectable in Crystal Light. Uh...no! I'm calling BS on that. It is totally detectable. Perhaps I used too much? I've tried it in Soups heated to 120 degrees and it clumped up. Thought I was safe not heating the max of 140 degrees. What is your favorite way to use the unflavored?

  34. So we're clearly addicted to Chike coffee Protein at our house and my husband and I start the morning with one. The only problem is, it's expensive compared to other protein powders, and I was wondering if anyone had found an equally good alternative that's regularly priced (e.g., $50 for 5 lb jar rather than Chike's 35 for one pound). I tried Click Mocha and didn't like it as much but wondering about some of the others for taste?

I finally found the perfect protein. It has no taste at all. Found it at GNC. It's called 100% Soy Isolate. I put it in my Iced tea... No taste what so ever. You can add it in anything even your food as you cook! I luv it.... If you have a problem getting your protein... I def suggest this!

I've been taking some things at soft gels. Recently, my surgeon posted info saying people with bypass don't get anything from the use of soft gels and needed to only take vCaps or tablet forms. Has anyone heard if this is the same for sleeved patients? I was just diagnosed with ADHD and I is recommended to take fish oil, but they are all soft gels.

Hello! I had a RNY back in 2003 at 350 pounds and have teetered back and forth losing and gaining the same 40 pounds every couple of years. I never was able to get below the 199 pound mark. I have a good friend from work that is scheduled in November to have her VSG so I thought I'd hang out here with her and we would go thru this together. Have really enjoyed all the posts and especially the recipe exchanges. This has helped me tremendously to get motivated again to hopefully finally reach my goal weight of 150 pounds!! Good luck to everyone !

Hi everyone! There may already be a thread or 2 about this, but figured couldn't hurt to throw in a suggestion/review again. I am officially obsessed with powdered peanut butter. I highly recommend it to any other former peanut butter junkies (like myself), or newbies (also like myself) who are looking to change up their boring old protein shakes. It's made the last week of my 3 liquid diet much more enjoyable! Have a good night everyone!

I’m so disappointed with my head. I purchased 4 bottles of the Biotin at vitacost.com ($5.49 each). 48. Has anyone tried green coffee extract to boost loss for slow losers? I saw this article http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20064576 There does appear to be some success in studies with chlorogenic acid, found in green coffee, with weight loss. My resting BMR is only 1345 calories per my nut, the result of years of yoyo dieting. I would really like to to lose more than a pound or two a week. I do walk for exercise but with bad knees, arthritis, etc. it's not easy to burn more than a few hundred extra calories a day. I'm also off caffeine since presurgery.

I'm 8 weeks out from surgery. My biggest challenge is my inability to tolerate any of the many(!) protein drinks and powders I tried. I read several posts from members who recommended the Premier Protein drinks. I took the recommendations and purchased both the vanilla and chocolate shakes. Hurrah! Icy cold, I can tolerate (even maybe like) these. Price-wise, they are reasonable, and super-handy since they are pre-made. Thank you!!!
