Hi all. Looking for the best and healthiest protein bars as a meal replacement. Suggestions welcomed!!

  2. Started by Sensarah,

So tonight I work I forgot to bring my stuff to make a protein shake so I just purched a protein bar. I only ate two bites of it though. Is this OK???

  3. Started by Kindle,

So I've noticed there's been a few comments about how we can only absorb 20 grams of Protein at a time and the rest is just wasted. I never really looked into that until now. A quick google search revealed we actually absorb even less than that.... "Protein Absorption Rate in Humans July 6, 2007 According to this study, A Review of Issues of Dietary Protein Intake in Humans, written by Shane Bilsborough and Neil Mann, it states… Absorption rates of amino acids from the gut can vary from 1.4 g/h for raw egg white to 8 to 10 g/h for whey protein isolate. Slowly absorbed amino acids suchas casein (~ 6 g/h) and repeated small doses of whey protein (2.9 g per 20 min, to…

Is it supposed to be salty, or did I get some bad samples? I've been trying shakes right and left and never tasted anything quite like it. Just making sure I'm not going to get sick, lol.

  5. Started by bobbyswife,

Anybody know where I can buy Isopure samples or singles? I am trying to avoid buying a whole pack in case I don't like them. OR, if anyone has some they would like to get rid of I will send you a prepaid shipping label and pay for the samples.

  6. Started by Roostertail2,

I had surgery on August 5th. I was able to get down a few shakes the first couple of days, but over the past week NOTHING has worked to where I can stomach them. I have tried MANY different kinds and added bananas and other products to them (suggestions from eggface) but just cant get more than a sip or two down. My question is can I just do Protein bars instead and cut out the shakes all together? I have a call into my NUT but wanted to find out if anyone else had same issues and had alternate solutions?? Need help because I have not gotten in more than 10-20g of protein a day in over a week and cant afford to be a bald headed fat girl who ends up in the hospital!! lol

  8. Started by tamg26k,

Does anyone take a Calcium citrate capsule instead of a chewable? I recently switched to a capsule instead of the Bariatric Advantage soft chews. The soft chews, to me, had too many carbs in each one and were a little pricey. I found some capsules at Vitamin Shoppe and they are easy to take. I just want to make sure that they are being absorbed. My Dr. said I could switch to a pill instead of a chewable but the pills were getting stuck.. No problem with the capsules though.

I posted something about Quest Bars and now I don't see it... What does anyone know about these. Sometimes I am in the run in the car... I don't always have something to grab... Was wondering if anyone has tried these bars?

Are the cookie flavored Proteins (like Matrix mint cookie, or whatever) "safe" for the full liquid stage? They usually have little tiny bits in them.

  11. Started by Pelekania,

Are these a good source of protein? I have been drinking these after my workout and they taste so delicious, not the chalkiness that I am accustomed to with other shakes. They are kind of expensive, so I just want to be sure that it is a good source of protein before purchasing some cases. They use real milk instead of whey protein.

I found a new protein bar called Detour Simple and you can get them at Costco only for now. They are really good. They come in peanut butter caramel or chocolate chip caramel. They have 15g of protein, 5g of dietary fiber, 3g of sugar, 6g of fat per bar. They are whey protein, no gluten and no GMO. Just thought I tell you about them.

Has anyone used these? If so, what's your experience been? I'm at the point of almost vomiting after ingesting protein powder. The taste and smell are so awful and I'm about a month post-op. My dr recommends 40-60 grams of protien daily. I know that would be like ten pills a day, but at least I would meet that goal. I could even try to break them in half if they are perforated.

Hey guys! I'm preop and I'm looking for Vitamins..my Dr office is pushing them Bariatric Advantage products like people selling girl scout Cookies lol. I'm going to buy a 3 month supply of the BA chewable multi formula.but mu question is should I buy the BA Calcium citrate chewy bite for $30 or is there a better deal somewhere else? Each bite is 500mg of calcium cottage with 500 IU of D3 and its a 90 count bag? What Biotin product is the best? And best price? Where should I buy the b12? Are there better ones than others? 20. I bought Vitamin B12 2500mcg, not sure how many of those I should take? Also bought Calcium Citrate chews that are 250mg & wondered how many of those I should take. I think it is 2 of each, but cannot remember. So will wait to take them until I get an answer!

I went to Hi-Health yesterday to get a couple of bottles to see if I liked any of the flavors. They only had the powder jugs ($40 each on sale) and the 20oz glass bottles ($4 each). I tried the blue raspberry, but holy cow was that sweet! Tasted like the blue syrup they use on snow cones. It wasn't terrible, but I couldn't finish the full 20 oz. I know they sell 8oz plastic bottles too. I'll be getting those online if I can find a flavor that is calmer. Has anyone else tried them yet? Even drinking half of it, I still got 20 grams of Protein, so that's good I guess.

I am 6 days post-op, and trying to figure out how to make Protein shakes interesting long-term. My favorite discovery has been ProtiZyme brand protein powder! Comes in the standard flavors, but so much better tasting than any I've tried so far. The Peanut Butter cookie flavor is my favorite. Another plus (at least to me) is that they don't get super foamy and thick, so you don't have the burps with every sip. My next favorite discovery is the book "The Bariatric Foodie Guide to Perfect Protein Shakes". Great recipes! To incorporate more flavors, the author uses sugar-free flavor syrups (the kind they use at coffee houses and for snow cones), and sugar-free pu…

Hi I am going to my first appointment tomorrow. I have the lapband and am hoping to have the revision to the sleeve. According to the nurse at my insurance, it will not take me long to be approved. Anyway, I decided to go out on a limb and buy 3 cases (online) of Isopure. It just came in and I have to say, not bad at all. Very doable. I've read that some people say its horrible but knowing I am not too fussy, I bought it before knowing what it tastes like. It is 40 grams of clear Protein per bottle and 160 calories with 0 carbs. I think it will help greatly during my post op Clear liquids stage.

  28. Considering WLS here (probably Roux en Y), and I'm a little confused about the use of Protein shakes post-surgery (as in, further out from surgery). I heard one of our local bariatric surgeons talking about WLS and he was talking about how one of the general rules for post-surgery eating is to eat more "solid food" to stretch the pouch appropriately vs. more liquid-type foods. However, it seems from what I read on these boards and other bariatric communities that Protein Shakes are a common part of post surgery life, even beyond your initial surgery recovery diet. Now, I know that getting enough protein is important after surgery. But can those of you who are post-surg…

Im 3 weeks PO and I just need something else to eat other than refried Beans and other purees! lol I found Pure Protein bars (21g of Protein) and they are actually pretty soft (like brownies) and I tried one yesterday and chewed each bite until it was pretty much liquid. But, I was wondering when others started eating them? And, if you had any suggestions to other good tasting Protein Bars? Thanks

  31. Started by allielee,

I found by mixing 32 ounces of water, 2 of the single serve grape individual packs of crystal light ( I use walmart brand) and grape isopure I can't even taste the nasty after taste! It's really good. I get 15 grams of protein this way by drinking flavored water that has no gross after taste..

Today I bought a case of premier protein rtd vanilla shakes and they are a little too sweet for my liking. I had been drinking eas carb control rtd vanilla but they only had 17 gm of protein. 34. Started by bandmomtb,

I am looking for other options similar to Syntrax nectar. I like these because they are lightweight, like drinking a juice or lemonade, perfect over ice for summer. I never was a soda or juice drinker pre-surgery, but the flavors help me get the Water in, with the added bonus of 23g of Protein in a serving! But it annoys me that you either pay for single use packets or a huge 30 serving "bucket" for $30some dollars. No in between options so you can have different flavors. I bought the bucket of lemonade and halfway through I was tired of it. And even with the Blender Bottle, it always has clumps when you shake and mix it, so for me its a hassle to clean at work, can'…

I'm looking for a flavorless protein powder that can be added to pretty much anything. I'm 4 weeks out of RNY and having some trouble getting in all of my protein. I've tried flavored powders and ready to drink shakes and they are all so sweet! I just can't stomach them. I'm looking to be able to add it to my morning juice I make in my nutribullet or just add to a meal if I need extra protein that day. So what's everyone's favorites, and where do you purchase it? Thanks! :-D

  36. Hi there everyone. I am a very frugal person and try to use discounts on things I need whenever I can find them. I wanted to share this deal in case anyone else wants to save a bit of $ on some supplements we need after surgery. The sale ends Thursday, September, 11 at 9 AM EST. The Bariatric Advantage Chewy Calcium bites, 250mg, are $9.99 per bag (originally $11.99) using code NINE9 and free shipping after $49 in purchases through Bariatric Choice. They have excellent ratings and 4 different flavors. I bought 7 bags in the various flavors because I might as well enjoy something necessary after surgery. Does anyone know a good brand of protein bars that aren't too high in carbs of sugar?? I thought atkins would have been good but they have a lot of carbs!!!

  38. Hi Everyone! I'm pretty new here and I believe this is my very first post! I'm due for surgery (bypass) on the 30th of September and am looking forward to this very much. What I need to know is, has anyone found any Protein and Vitamins that are Paleo friendly that are liquid (not the protein, obviously!) or chewable and don't have things like soy, any of the 'ose's (fructose, cellulose, malodextrose, etc.) and are not full of fillers, or are sweetened with aspertame, etc.? I'm having a hard time finding these things and am worried that I will have a difficult time with the standard vitamins/protein that have all the other stuff in them that I prefer not to use. …

  44. Started by Amyly2n,

I am pre-op (having surgery in late September/October) but am trying to already replace one meal a day with a Protein shake so that I can find what works for me. I tried the ready-to-drink Muscle Milk this morning from a convenience store because I was running too late to make my own shake at home before I left for work. It was really good! So my question is, does the Muscle Milk powder taste as good as the ready-to-drink Muscle Milk? I can't buy the ready-to-drink every day because that would just get expensive, but I saw online that they sell the powder at a few local stores and I am wondering about the taste compared to the ready-to-drink.
