  1. OK so even though I am 100lbs overweight, I have been an obsessively 'healthy' eater for years now. NO gluten, very few grains, no soy, no food with antibiotics or pesticides... So - just wondering if any of you are using Protein powders, drinks and supplements that are: gluten free soy free organic grass fed whey If you have tried any of these kinds, i want to know which ones you like. Thanks!

Has anyone used this line of product in their pre- post liquid stage?

  3. I need unflavored protein powder. I tried Isopure but it makes me sick everytime I try it. What has worked for you?

  4. Started by JamieLogical,

So, a few weeks ago, I received my latest shipment of chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Quest Bars. I noticed they had a slightly different taste and texture, but didn't think much of it, because I've noticed some variation in batches of Quest Bars before. But then I started getting really gassy in the past two weeks or so. Like really gross smelling gas and loose stool. After talking to a coworker who also eats Quest Bars, I realized that Quest Nutrition has been phasing out Isomalto-Oligosaccharide in all of their bars and replacing it with Soluble Corn Fiber. Now both of these are "fake" fiber and have their various issues, but at least the former didn't make me horribly gas…

I am 3 weeks out from sleeve surgery and struggling to get all of my Protein for the day so I'm hoping some of you on here can help. There is so much information about Proteins on this site and the number of choices is overwhelming, so I thought I would just ask a very specific question. What are the protein powders or ready to drink products with the highest protein levels and higher protein to carb ratios? I am specifically looking for drinks that are less sweet or unflavored.

I wonder if there are any more reasonably priced protein bars than the ones I'm finding for $3-$5 and up? Besides Amazon Prime and other online retailers, I shop @ Costco Trader Joes, Wal-Mart & Whole Foods. Any better values out there? Thanks!

My bariatric program told me to take chewables, which made sense in the beginning when I couldn't ingest much. I've been using a vitamin patch, but I feel like the old multivitamin pills I took pre-op made me feel better. Think it would be okay to start using those again, now that I can swallow pills?

  9. I am just over 3 years postop and this is my goto Meal Replacement, when needed. Thought I would share what I consider to be a gem of a discovery.... The best Protein bar I have found is PowerCrunch "Original". (link below) It is a wafer Protein Bar and unlike any other protein bar on the market. For years, I was on the search for a protein bar that was not dense or tasted like chalk. Honestly, I thought I would never find it, thought it didn't exist, until I discovered this bar. The Original has between 13-14 grams of protein. Though that may not be a lot in the protein bar world, I have learned that the higher gram count ='s yuck. This bar meets the sweet spot with …

I am still tyring to find a Protein I like. Does anyone know how much shipping is for samples from Vitalady.com & about how long it takes to receive them? We are leaving in one week for surgery & I'd love to be able to order some full sizes before leaving. Also, any suggestions on which nectar flavors to try?

I was looking through the protein drinks today and found that they actually carry Premier protein at our local safeway! I was kind of pleasantly surprised since I just got rid of my Costco membership to save money and was wondering if I was going to have to buy online in order to have it(it's the one my surgeon's office wants us on) so...if you have a safeway in your area and are looking for a way to buy premier protein without having to order online, check there. I'm sure since ours carries it, that you could ask them to carry it at your location or have it specially ordered for you as well. I worked in grocery stores for many years so I know it's possible even if they w…

For my very first topic starting post - I have a question that I have not been able to find the answer to and have 7 more days til I talk to my Nutritionist again. Diatomaceous earth - has anyone used it as a supplement after having gastric sleeve done. Does anyone have any real information on it - ie. someone that has used it and can tell me if it its worth it or if it'll irritate my stomach after surgery? My roommate is swearing by the stuff and well I'm not a fan of jumping on the new stuff bandwagons - but he's making me live with the crap all over my house, as it does kill bugs - that I have managed to find out first hand. I have to start my vitamins this week and am probably going to go with Unjury unless I find something else that is comparable and cheaper. I know a lot of people use Bariatric Advantage....wondering what the lowest cost online site is for them? Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Hi I need advice on powdered Vitamin supplements that you can add to Water or liquids. I cannot take any more pills and am not getting my fluids and Proteins in. Calcium is huge pills I bought and then I got liquid calcium and it tastes like chalk, I gagged on it. I've been in emerg twice in 2 months since surgery with dehydration. I can eat now little bits of food so Im good with that but am really need Vitamins. Sometyhing I can add to fluids. Thanks `-)

  18. Hey, guys! I'm currently pre-op for RNY and looking for a good Protein powder to use after surgery that is COMPLETELY lactose free. I emphasize completely because I know whey isolate is supposed to be lactose free, but it still contains enough to make me sick. I've tried several brands. My bariatric program recommends Genisoy, but I find the taste of that particular brand to be rather repulsive, so I'm trying to find something else that's equally nutritious, but less chalky and gross. Do any of you guys have recommendations? So far I really like the Vega One drinks, has anyone used those? Thanks!

Since surgery on the 23rd July 2015, I have been taking Centrum Chewable (not gummies) and everything has been fine. I had bloods done and last week got the results which were great. I had no need of B12 injections and Iron was good. So I was very happy. On advice from my dietitian, I started taking regular Centrum yesterday and have thrown up after taking it. All I can taste is the Vitamin and its put me off eating today. My dietitian isn't in until Thursday and wondered if anyone else had this issue?

I am a couple months out from surgery (not scheduled yet) but I am trying out different Protein drinks to see what is out there and what is palatable, at least for now. I've gotten some of the Isopure Zero Carbs (40g of protein!). The taste isn't too bad but i feel like they create a coating in my mouth. Any suggestions on how to lessen this feeling? Thanks!

My bariatric center does not recommend any specific brands of Vitamins, as long as you meet your daily recommended amounts. I'm really looking to try the costco vitamins for cost efficiency and convenience. I know lots of people here talk about using them. Which ones do you recommend? Do you prefer the name brand or kirkland? Do they actually seem to measure up to the bariatric-specific manufacturers?

  25. I've been buying my tubs of Syntrax Nectar on Amazon. I had just ordered one of chocolate a couple weeks ago, no problem. I went to order a tub of vanilla today, and when I tried to check out, I got a message that the order can't be shipped to my address. What? Has anyone else encountered this?

The nutritionist and nurses at my bariatric center told me that Unjury is the only type of protein powder I should use, because it's medically modified. They said that any other protein I try, I won't absorb all of the protein in it because it's not medically modified. Has anyone else ever heard this? I'm so confused, because I see lots of WLS patients at other places using various types of protein. And I'm not that crazy about Unjury, really.

Hi everyone! I saw this article on the NPR website: powders and other various food stuffs made with it or out of it. Has anyone here that has had WLS used this in addition to their normal Vitamin regiment? I have yet to have surgery, but this sounds like it could have the potential to help WLS patients who have trouble getting their needed nutrition in. Thanks in advance! (Disclaimer: this is my first post ever! Woo! Apologies if it's all goofed up.)

I am taking a bariatric complete Vitamin, extra D3, B12, Biotin and Iron. Apparently my blood work at 6 weeks came back just fine. Any ideas?

I am pre op and currently have been using either whole foods 365 whey protein powder or bio chem's whey protein powder. While I was enjoying my chocolate smoothie today I realize it has 6g of actual sugar in it. Is that going to be too high to use post RNY? What is the range I should stay below? I also use the pure protein already made shakes, but I REALLY am a Huge fan of biochem's chocolate and am going to be so sad if that's too high in sugar for post op life.

So last week I got a gnc card for the year and ordered a 2.5 pound tub of their 100% whey protein shake mix in chocolate to see if I could tolerate it for my liver shrink diet and I have to say its pretty good its thicker then I like but oh well can't have your cake and eat it too

  32. so i was looking to introduce protein shakes into my diet before my pre-op liquid phase because the nut wants me to get 60-80 grams a day and i went to the gnc website today and looked into a membership and its 15 bucks for the whole year one that is amazing because not only do they give you half off on whey protein but on like vitamins and suplaments and all sorts of good stuff. so i also ordered a tub of 100% whey protein in chocolate 2 pounds for 24 dollars yay

  34. I'm still thinking about getting surgery (consultation next Wednesday! So excited) bit was wondering if I should find a Protein shake note that I like. I'm thinking of Meal Replacement mostly. I'm starting a diet that is almost certainly doomed to fail, again, bit I'm giving it my all anyway. I was thinking of drinking a shake for Breakfast. I read that you should get whey isolate only, why?

  36. Hi. I've got an odd issue going on. I haven't been sleeved yet but I am following a 2 Protein shake a day diet (followed up with a normal healthy meal). I've been doing this about a month now to lose the weight required prior to surgery. The past 10 days I've had mild to moderate urinary discomfort (burning with urination and discomfort in between). Bad enough I went to the Dr to have a urinalysis done. I've had UTI's before so was confident that's what I had. (No, it's not an STD either) Results came back normal. Dr said its possibly from the Protein shakes. Anyone else have any experience with this and what did you do? I am using 100% egg protein, and each shake h…

Okay hi all, so Syntrax was generous enough to send me some samples of the New Naturals line of Protein shakes. My first taste test was the Natural chocolate. Now the Naturals line has no artificial sweeteners or products and uses stevia and monk fruit to sweeten the product. Zero Sugar, Zero Fat Lactose and gluten free. 90 calories in a full scoop. It mixes extremely well, no blender required its a very very fine powder, not at all grainy. Taste wise, it is one of the most mild flavors ive ever had. It does not have that artificial sweetener taste at the end either. Its a very mild flavor. Did i say that enough? literally if you like strong chocolate flavor th…

Hi all, I just got a box of sample Syntrax nectar packages. The packages say to mix 2-4 oz of water/milk with 1/4 of the package? I'd like to hear from people who like Syntrax Nectar, your experiences with using it. Do you dump the package into a container to try to divide it into 4ths, Has anyone figured out a measurement for a 1/4 a package (i.e. 2 tablespoons, 3 tablespoons, 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon???). Do you like it better with a different portion of Water to mix (6oz water with 2 tablespoons of mix, etc...). Do you like certain flavors better with more or less water? I know some of this is up to a person's taste but I really would like to know what…

Now I've heard a few of you say that you should be getting majority of your protein in the food you eat, and I'd prefer it that way since I don't care too much for the protein shakes. So I asked my nutrition if I could just focus on getting my protein in food, and she told me that's impossible because I'm not eating enough to get all the protein I need daily. Which is kinda true if you think about it. Our new tummy isn't built like it use to be to hold enough food to get the amount of protein. What are your thoughts on this? I'm 4 mos out, surgery date 4/8/15. So maybe that just applies to me because I'm still kind of early out?
