I am doing my pre-op diet. Problem is the protein powders are making me nauseous. I have been experimenting with a couple different ones. They all seem so sweet and that is what is making me sick. Does anyone else have this issue? How did you manage it? Thanks!

Currently I am using Body Fortress Whey Protein shake it has 30g of protein which I like, but it has 170 calories per serving and thats before adding skim milk. Are there alternative protein drinks with less calories but near the same protein? I have to keep my daily calorie intake of 600 and sometimes its hard to do. Thanks.

I am taking the Celebrate Multi-Complete (with iron) capsules - bottle says 3 a day - silly question - do you take all 3 at the same time or spaced out - and does it matter what time you take them? Can't find the answer on the website or bottle. Thanks!!

Hi, I'd like to try some protein shakes, for pre-tasting and practicing. I'd also like to incorporate syrups in them. I can not use artificial sweetener, health issue. 1. How much of a protein shake do you make at a time? 2. How many times a day? 3. How many ounces of syrup do you put in the shake? 4. Judging on amount put in and shakes a day, will this produce too much sugar allowable for the RNY diet? I've heard that sugar is dangerous to the RNYer, whether for just a period of time or forever. Help! As there is nowhere else for me to get answers/ideas and who better than YOU!

I've been looking into the uses of coconut oil and man are they lengthy. This stuff is a gold mine! Some that may interest y'all... Helps to tighten and regenerate skin cells, reduces wrinkles, curbs nausea, and when rubbed into the scalp daily it helps to regenerate hair cells for hair regrowth. Google it, I'm sold :-)

I picked up a couple samples of this, and can I say it's yummie? I mixed it with 2 cups of Water, 1/3 c nonfat powdered milk, and poured it over ice. Yum! I drank some of it early this morning, and sip the rest throughout the day It has Calcium caseinate.....anyone have thoughts on this type of Protein? I am unfamiliar with it. I actually meant to get samples of Chike, but with these old eyes, I ordered the wrong thing. The totals are 23g protein, 23g carbs, and 200 calories......I was never told what the limit was on carbs, but that seems high.....11 in the Click and 12 in the milk. Thanks for your input!

Can you all recommend some affordable, not-so-sweet Protein powders? I know there is unflavored unjury, which I plan to get, and unjury chicken broth flavored powder, which i am considering, but are there any flavored protein powders that are kinda sweet'ish. I have a powerful sweet tooth BUT can't handle things that are too sweet.. and I'm PRE-op. I can only imagine that sensitivity getting stronger. I'd like a powder with a hint of sweetness but all the ones I've tried are very, very sweet. I'd forgotten how sweet they are until today when I made one (been a few months since the clinic told me to stay away from them because I'll be sick of them post-op, better to to mak…

I mixed the chocolate Peanut Butter Raw fusion Protein powder with 8 oz of Water in a Blender Bottle with a blenderball. It blended nicely, didn't leave any lumps. The consistency was thin, like chocolate milk.....it's a little sweet, slightly chalky or gritty, I'm not sure which. The flavor isn't what I'd expect---a little off........I put it in a blender, and it was still a little chalky. I added my new standby: 2T nonfat powdered milk and 2T of PB2......it thickened up nicely, the chalkiness isn't as noticeable, and it goes down pretty well.....I bought 2 samples of this flavor and 2 of the chocolate to give it a chance..... Would I buy it again? Not sure yet...…

Does anyone have any experience with this product? What are your thoughts/reviews? It is a plant based Protein powder (protein comes from peas, rice, and artichokes)......After being told dairy is binding, I was thinking this may be a non-whey option. I ordered some samples and will report back, but was hoping to get some input from other sleevers about this product. THANKS!!!

Hey, been trying to research the subject but been getting conflicting messages. The bariatric nutritionist at the hospital told me I should not be taking anything besides multi Vitamins and Calcium because Biotin could be cancerogenic and not safe (Strange I know). On forums and such, I've seen people taking anything between 300mcg and 5000 mcg. Some report side effects and weightgain, others say it works great. Should I be taking this for months before noticing effects? If I had sleeve surgery two weeks ago, is it too late for me to start taking this? What is the recommended dosage? And is it dangerous? Any brands you prefer?

Has anyone tried Big Train products? http://www.bigtrain.com/t-wls-weight-loss-surgery-protein-drink-mixes.aspx I picked some up today from Sams, the Mocha Fit Frappe - just mixed one up as a blended drink and it's pretty darn good! I did need to add a splash of milk to it as it was pretty thick, but I'm ready to order some new flavors already because it was so good. At 21g of Protein, it's an excellent Meal Replacement. I just wanted to post in case someone wanted to try something new, or to solicit comments if you've had it before. My wife hates Protein drinks but she really liked this because it didn't have that protein chalky taste. Comments?

I use premier Protein shakes 30G. Vanilia accepts most any flavoring. I bought some flavorings that are used in coffees (starbucks and the like) from a Wegmans in the coffee section. They have them in sugar free in about 30 flavors at the manufactures website. Coconut, peanbutter, strawberry, you name it. I used choclate, coconut and almond and sweat I was drinking a almond mound candy bar. Carmel and almond taste like hazelnut. Choclate flavored ones are hard to change from basic chocolate. But Carmel works well. The Wegman's only have a few choices. The flavor company is called Da Vinci and is online. 2 tablespoons full and ice mixed in a magic bullet and you don't …

I take vitamin D3-2000 and Centrum vitamins for adults over 50 which has 400 IUs of vitamin D. I recently purchased Caltrate 600 with Vitamin D3, 1600 IUs per day. Is this a toxic amount of vitamin D? Or, should I ditch the Vitamin D3-2000, taking the Caltrate 600-D and Centrum vitamins only?

Ok so I am 6 month post op and I was doing some thinking today. I usually drink my protein powder drinks throughout the day. I maybe have 2 shakes with milk and another 2 of my cappuccino stuff mixed with water. I also eat protein but really dont eat very much. Should I only be doing the protein shakes and powders as meal replacements? Or is what im doing ok? Dont know why I thought of this today, 6 months post op, but I guess we will always question if we are doing things right! My surgeon and nut said to focus on protein and water and not to necessarily count calories and I have lost 74 since 4-22 surgery so I am doing something right. If I can do better of course i…

I was at gnc tonight and the clerk made a comment about breaking up the 50g in the isopure because it all doesn't get absorbed. Anyone do this? I don't have access to a NUT so I'm asking here. He suggested breaking up scoops throughout the day. I've been drinking the full scoop in the AM and then getting the rest in my protein in with foods and a shakeology at night. TIA!

Are all fish oil pills the size of my head? Are these ok to take after you are sleeved our will they get stuck? I went to GNC on the recommendation if another thread to get the orange ones (forgot the brand name) and the girl convinced me to buy the store brand because they "had more per pill and were buy one get one half off". I got a box of the pills and a bottle of the liquid for when I can't take pills right after being sleeved. I didn't realize the pills were so big until I got them home and opened them. Do I need to take these back?

Hi all I am looking into ordering my Vitamins online. We have a whole regimen of stuff we have to take and I am looking for other products as I am not coping. Currently I have to take 1 Multivitamin, 1 huge ass pill containing Omega 3 and 6 and then also 1 Iron pill (called Autrin). With this i also have to take two sachets of Calcium citrate in Water, but not at same time. Because we cant take calcium close to iron and also not allowed to drink anything for 40 mins before and after meals, and meals happen 6 times a day it reeeaaally takes a LOT of management and planning and something that just dont work out every day. Also the calcium shake i have to take tastes …

Dumb question, I'm sure, but are protein drinks liquids or solids? My NUT suggests making them with frozen fruit and ice instead of water or dairy and ice, but that makes them very thick, and I can't tolerate that consistency. I don't drink milk shakes or eat ice cream for the very same reason. I prefer protein drinks to be very thin, much like a slushy or melted frozen yogurt. When they're thin like that, are they considered liquid or a solid? Does the "no simultaneous drinking" rule apply? Can I make an extra large protein drink and sip on it all day along with my water?

Hi guys. I'm pre-op (working on a 11/14/13 surgery date), but prepping now for post-op diet. I love coffee - I love coffee like a smoker loves smoking. I like having a cup of coffee when I'm in a meeting, reading a book or the morning paper. I love taking a piping hot coffee with me when I'm on a road trip. I can remember drinking coffee when I was a child - like 7 years old. So, in summary - I'm a coffee addict. So, I've been thinking about the post surgery diet and if there's a way I can drink coffee at some point and still enjoy it sans cream and sugar or honey (my favorite). I tried mixing it with a unjury vanilla shake this morning and it's OK - I could …

That's what it's come to when trying to get my liquid Protein in. I now use the New whey protein shots. Some 40 grams of protein for 4oz of liquid. I only do a quarter at a time as our bodies can only process so much protein at once, but it's a good/simple way to get in a decent amount of protein, and it usually pushes me over 100 grams of protein a day when counting the food ingested. I just can't do it anymore. Choking down chalky, slimy, nasty tasting Protein drinks. I think I just need to take a break from the shakes. Maybe introduce them again in a month or so...or whenever it is that I can look at the container and not gag.

PROTEIN - Can you eat too much in a day? I'm on the pre-op diet and my Dr. says max of 5 shakes a day. Is that just because of calories ... or is protein a factor also? Is there any danger in eating a lot of protein? I've been doing a lot of research online where bodybuilders say 300-600g a day. One doctor, a urologist, said too much protein can cause kidney stones, but didn't say how much. So what's your opinion?

I am not sure about anyone else but buying my Protein shakes and drinks, Vitamins, supplements and other things, have been kinda expensive. I have been buying samples from bjbariatrics.com, Syntrax nectar, it's 11 packets for $14.95 each packet had 23 grams of protein, 0 carbs, and 0 sugar, I tried almost all the samples and have found a few I like, but basically spending $20 for 11 packets each time, was getting a little bothersome. I searched the web and found another website BariatricChoice.com that carried Syntrax Nectar in the tubs which are about 36 servings per container, and about $36.99. I signed up and got $20 off my first order! So I paid the same amount for …

I recently purchased a product called "Big Train" Fit Frappe', coffee protein drink mix. It lists 21 grams of protein, 1 gram of sugar, 130 calories, 22 grams of carbs, and 5 grams of fiber for a 16 oz. serving. It tastes great, and since I opened the container I can't return it. I know whey protein is optimal for absorption and nutritional value. I haven't heard anything about Calcium Caseinate. Has anyone used this product, and what are your thoughts? Any other recommendations for a mocha type shake high in protein?
