I wanted to just throw this out there and hope that someone who is on the fence or too scared to take the plunge for vsg or who is struggling post op sees this! I had my vsg jan 29 2013 I was 330 pounds and miserable I couldnt even play with my then 1 year old the way she should have been played with. I was severly dependenet on my fiance to help care for not only me but taking the brunt of our 1 year olds care. I had tried and stuggled my entire life, I am 23 and had high blood pressure and was in pain constantly and just the simplest tasks exhausted me. I did not want to live this way any more, its not really living. I had my surgery and bam I lost nothing for abou…

  2. I'm not really after an answer about how did you deal with it emotionally, I totally accept temporary hair loss/thinning as something I may have to address. It will either happen or it won't and according to my reading, there really isn't anything I can do to prevent it. I don't really care that much about the fact that some of it might fall out. I know it will grow back. What I would like to know is how did you deal with it from a style perspective? Did you change your hairstyle? Did you cut your hair short? Start wearing hats? Scarves? If you used accessories like hats or scarves, what kind of style did you adopt? How does one wear a scarf? Is it going to be a pain in…

So I had to go in and get 2 liters of IV fluid yesterday due to dehydration. And this morning I started spotting. So question, do you have to increase your fluid intake while on your cycle? I'm already having a hard time getting my fluids in. I don't want to have to go back in for more IV's.

  4. Hi, ladies. I hope I'm not losing the tightness of my sleeve,so hopefully someone will answer in the affirmative. I've noticed that since yesterday, I have been unusually hungry. Not only do I want the healthy foods I now eat, but I'm craving carbs. I'm 9 weeks out and usually I don't feel hungry between meals, but today I am just famished. Just got back from the store where I picked up a pickle, some popcorn, cake and ice cream. I'm about to cry, because I can't believe I have folded this early in the game. However, my body seems to be CRYING for junk all of a sudden. I start my cycle in a few days and I'm wondering if this could be the cause of my extreme hun…

I see lots of period questions on here but not sure if I have seen this. Have any of you went into surgery with your period and how long after surgery did it last? Getting blood thinners while being a patient obviously didn't help my matters any but I feel like I have had a period for forever and it isn't decreasing. I'm 4 days post op and had a period 5 days before going into surgery.

I've used the pill since I was 16. That'd be 15 years. I ran out right before surg (July30) and haven't gone back to the OB yet. But I'd like to be on something! I'm wondering what other types of BC y'all like and that work well, but are not pills?? Any suggestions? And if so, why and do you gain weight?

  10. This is an NSV cos I can ride my bike! I went riding with my husband on Sunday in an area where we knew there would be swooping magpies so I put the helmet-mounted camera on and started filming. Uploaded to YouTube last night (search for Tracey Matthies on YouTube), and now the Victorian Channel Seven news have picked it up and will be using it to illustrate a story on a government magpie map tonight!

My boyfriend wants to try new positions...namely me on top. I'm really scared and I'm not sure why. I know before surgery any time he asked I couldn't do it and would sometimes end up in tears because of it. Nothing to do wit him, just my insecurity because I was so big. Now that I've lost 100 pounds he is asking again. You would think I'd be all about trying it, but I get the same insecurity and tears as before. I feel like a damn fool. Logically I know I weigh 100 lbs less than before and I weigh less than him now, so I don't know why the insecurity over this hasn't gone away.

  13. Started by Veruca Salt,

Since I got surgery I have noticed my periods are getting extremely bad. Not only the pain but the clots are huge. The first month I went to the ER and they told me to see a GYN. I got into one a few weeks later. They said to take Acetaminophen. I can't just keep taking it for at a giving birth.

So when I exercise my shorts are too big and fall down and my panties are too big so when my shorts fall down my panties fall down too. I have always bought my panties at Lane Bryant and bought the high leg. I liked these because I have a big lower stomach from excess skin and the high leg was not too high that my stomach roll fit in the panty and not over it and because they had pretty colors and laces, etc. Well, I was wearing a 14/16 in LB panties and their panties do not go smaller in size. Does anyone have some recommendations for panties that have the same qualities are LB's? I have lost 43 pounds but I still have this excess skin stomach that has to be tucked…

Good evening, Today I went for my annual pap smear. It was fast and pain free!!! I have something that is tilted so it has always hurt. My husband thinks the no pain was the weight loss. I hope so. Also, it was a new doctor and she was gentle and quick. Have any of you thinner women noticed any less pain when getting the pap smear? Remember to get checked at least every 2 years.

I know I'm not suppose to compare but I'm scared I'm behind or something. Can anyone give suggestions on how to increase my weight loss progress?

  17. So I'm starting a new relationship and am soooooooooooo self conscious that we have not even "done the deed" yet because I can't bring myself to expose my naked body! I've NEVER EVER EVER had this issue, At 360 pounds, men knew what they were getting when the clothes came off.. and my body looked like what they were hoping for.. somewhat full breasts, my skin was filled out, and relatively un-cottage cheese like... but now.. my thighs are wrinkly.. my belly is hanging lower than ever.. my breasts are more like breastcicles. I am so not used to this feeling.. I've always been an uninhibited "lights-on" kind of woman but now I'm like a fish out of Water. Just the thought o…

I have tried to assure him I will always be built like this no matter what the results of surgery -- I've always had T&A (a little more A than T to be honest), and no surgery will change my basic build, you know? To be clear, he is being nothing but supportive since I made the final decision. But he gave me his opinion when asked, and his opinion is that I am perfect just as I am and he prefers bigger gals. I just hope he doesn't miss the old body, and hoping the new attitude and feeling of accomplishment and self-esteem makes up for it. Anyone married to a chubby chaser? Did he do OK after you lost some of your curves?

I thought I was going to have a stroke! I think I now have post traumatic stress disorder. I went to the dr and they took me off the shakes and put me on whole foods. Thanks for the vent! Obviously I realize that most of you are NOT medical professionals... I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing... Following my surgery which was on 4/25 I had an "extra" period in may and then my period came right on time around the first of every month.. Now here we are in September... I'm down about 40is lbs and my period is no where in sight. I took a pregnancy test and it came out negative. I have since scheduled an appointment with my obgyn and I have a follow up appointment with my surgeon in a few weeks. Anyone else experience missed period after being regular?

  27. So I have been reading a few threads about going poop...constipation or other issues going to the bathroom. I have different digestive issues. My PCP put me on fiber pills which work great to address my issues. Here is my question. Are we able to take fiber pills or fibers powder after surgery? It works so well for me now that I would hate to change things up post op.

Hubby and I currently use condoms. Right now I have the back-up of my body not ovulating 90+% of the time, so if one breaks its not a HUGE concern. However, with the known tendency for increased fertility post-op I think it best to begin using a "formal" birth control. So, my question is WHEN should I start the new BC? I tend to think asap so I can feel it out and see if it is right for me BEFORE I hit my body with the physical trama of the surgery. Yet, I also consider the higher risks of blood clots and the fact that any antibiotics they give will mute the BC a good argument for waiting until after... thoughts?

I am just wondering if anyone else is experiencing lots of dead skin? I am two day post op today, and during my liquid diet and after my shower today I have been noticing lots of dead skin coming of. I have been keeping myself very hydrated and always moisturized before surgery, so I am thinking it isn't related to anything like. Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

My first appointment since surgery is today. I feel a little nervous. Not sure why ? She usually does an exam of my pelvic area by pushing on where my band and port are. It's a sensitive area so that makes me nervous! Anyone else worry about their first post-op appt? Was it no big deal? Thanks in advance!

  36. Year ago I asked if anyone felt like their band got tighter when they were aroused and I swear, all I got back was crickets. So let me ask this way: do you get funny noises coming from your tummy when you're in the mood? My boyfriend can tell if he's going to get lucky if he makes overtures and my tummy starts making rumbling noises lol. It actually gave him a complex when my band was leaking and the noises stopped. He started thinking I'd lost interest!

So, hi. This is my first day here and first post. I'm one-year post-op, and have lost almost half of my target. I've always been big, and have worn size 20+ since middle school (33 years old now). My question is, what size can I anticipate once I've lost to my target? I'm 5ft 7ins, and pre-surgery, I was 280lbs, wearing a US size 28 (jeans and pants; not a big dress/skirt person). I'm your classic Pear, which means the majority of my bulk lies in my hips and thighs. I'm currently at 220lbs, and wearing a US size 22. I would like to see myself end up around a US size 12, and have set my goal weight between 140 and 160, based on healthy BMI, but have no idea of the two …

Within the last three months there had been some pain and talk if needing a hysterectomy due to enlarged fallopian tube because i had previously had my tubes clipped (tied). So after speaking with my surgeon we went ahead with the vsg before the hysterectomy for two reasons, 1 being that my gyn told me he would not do my surgery due to my weight and 2 because i still had not heard anything about a date or even a Dr to do it.
