Wow it has been a life time since I was last on this forum! I would love some advice right now as I am pretty much over this whole thing! I was banded 10 years ago in Australia and have managed to lose (and keep off) over 150lbs. Now I am living in the US (since 2004) and am having major complications where I cannot sleep at night due to choking on stomach acid. The band has to come out or I am at risk of Aspiration Pneumonia, which can be VERY serious. All options have been tried, so I am not here to ask for advice on that. My surgeon has advised me that the only option is removal or eventually severe illness. I am already wheezing and am weak due to the foreign ma…

Anyone get rebanded (or know of anyone who has) after an erosion? I had my band from March of 2010 until July of 2012, and lost 123 lbs. I was having a lot of pain in my chest and thought it was from an over-filled band. Had an unfill done under floroscope and they saw the band had completely eroded into my stomach, which had formed scar tissue over it. Now, a year later, I'm putting on weight despite following weight watchers and am looking into getting rebanded. My insurance (tricare) only covers bypass, banding and stomach stapling.

Simple question: Are fills painful? I simply dislike needles but I found I do better if I know what to expect upfront. Surprises are not good for me. Please let me know how your first fill went. Nervous here.

Two women were talking about losing weight and the one was complaining how she was t loosing, and her cousin started after her and lost so much more. The. The other woman chimed, "well she probably had surgery!" I so wanted to say something like, "lap band is a tool, y still need to follow a diet." I wanted to correct her and educate her. And the way she said it was very demeaning like. Almost as if we took the easy way out. When that is farthest from the truth. I dunno, maybe I should have educated them. I think if I did i would have lost it. Oh well, I had to vent.

When I had my surgery I lost a lot of weight in a very short period of time and am now at the point where I am experimenting with fills and have hit a plateau. I lose about 3 lbs over the five day week, and then gain 3 lbs. over the weekend over and over and am so tired of it!! I am walking 2-3 miles almost every day and am trying to make good food choices but I do count calories on myfitness pal. It just seems like every weekend there is an event and I go a little crazy like an alcoholic in a bar. I can't just stay home but it seems home is the only place I am in control. Ugh sorry, I just had to vent.

Thursday, the 22nd we are leaving on our 9 night southern Caribbean cruise...I am looking forward to all the delicious food choices, restaurants, and not to forget all the alcohol I'll probably be consuming laying in the bright sun on those white sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise Water.... But first, starting today, I'll go 3 days of liquids and mushie type foods, all sliders, to ensure my band is in tip-top shape... We cruise often, and a year ago I decided to put my band to the test, eat what and when I wanted, and let the band do what it normally does everyday for me at home...it performed perfectly..as a matter of fact I lost a pound or two...although I'm …

Hi, I had a fill 7/18/13 just .25 and everything was good. I had an upper GI yesterday & now I can't keep anything down. Should I wait to see if I'm just irritated or is the band too tight?

HI For those of you who had your band removed, has anyone noticed a change in food sensitivities? I have a Lap Band, since July 2010, and developed an intolerance to lactose and gluten after getting the band implanted. I will be having the band removed and am wondering if these food intolerances might clear up as I will have my entire stomach digesting the food at the same time. Has anyone had this experience after band removal? Thank you for any insights you want to share! I have high hopes ~hiddn

So after much thinking I decided to postpone my surgery which was supposed to be on August 26th. Doing this preop liquid diet I found it relatively easy to starve myself (basically what the preop diet was). I figured if I could do that, why couldn't I just follow through controlling myself without the surgery? I never really gave it a honest chance, I may say I have but I never did. I figured I owed it to myself to honestly try before going down the surgery path. Now I know everyone on this site is very adamant about the surgery because of their success (for good reason) and I was shocked how many people honestly said basically "just go through with the surgery, you'll …

After I get a fill, I feel great...for about 3 weeks. I have to take small bites, eat small portions and am satisfied for about 3-4 hours. After about 3 weeks it's like the restriction goes away. I can eat larger portions and larger quantities! Anyone else experience this? Thank God I have an appointment tomorrow :-)

I am not belittling those of us who have had complications, and people should be fully informed regardless of the WLS they choose. But this is the danger of doing nothing. http://www.weather.com/health/obesity-death-toll-heavier-previously-thought-20130816

I am going to be banded on September 27th! I can not believe it! I am looking to either join a group that is already in existence or maybe start a new group in the South Bay Area. (Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Marina Del Rey, Santa Monica, etc) If you are a part of a group or are interested in a group please let me know. I am looking to start ASAP. I have been told by so many fellow banders that support groups are a key to success.

My hubby and I have been married for five years. Each anniversary leaves me surprised that that he is alive and breathing and that I have not yet buried him in the back garden. He has his faults. A short but not inclusive list: He thinks the cleaning fairies come behind him and clean up and in order to keep them in work he continues to leave a mess in his wake. He thinks that 5 minutes is enough notice to give me that he is bringing business colleagues home for dinner. (always on a night I plan to serve leftovers!) He gives up his dog ownership rights when she rolls in something god awful in the park but forgets this when she is groomed and wants to play. His idea o…

I'm on "mushies" and made something actually worth taking a pic of:) 1/4 cup cottage cheese 1/4 cup Pasta sauce 1//4 cup shredded f/f mozzarella cheese 1-2tbs grated Parmesan Layer first 2 ingredients in microwave safe bowl. Heat for 20-30 seconds. Add mozzarella and heat addition 30 seconds or until cheese is melted. Add Parmesan. With the ingredients I used it was 150 calories and 13 grams of Protein and super yummy:)

Just wanted to share my weight loss struggle! I had the lap band in 2009 lost about 60 pounds in 1 year. Everyday was a struggle, and for about 2 years I never found true restriction and would only lose weight by not eating and/or throwing up...Alot of foods just would not go down at all. I pretty much gained back all of the weight and accepted that I was a lap band failure. I know a few people who failed with the band, it happens, but what's not ok is giving up. I can only speak for myself, and the lap band was not the best tool for ME. I can honestly say, I have never been more pleased with my results with the gastric sleeve. I can actually eat dense…

This has been going on for quite some time, but I figured I would try and see if this has been happening to anyone else. When I eat, there are a lot of times where I have to lay flat on my back in order for food to go down. It is instant relief as I can feel the food go down. Could my band have slipped and I just don't know? It happens after I take one bite of something.

I can't be the only DC person on this board. Heck, I'll even open it up to the metro DC area. I was banded in Mexico in January, so I'm not familiar with DC-area resources for Bandsters. I'd really like to find a therapist in the area who has experience with WLS clients. I love my fill doctor (Susan Brinkley in Frederick), but the only therapist she recommended is in Hagerstown, which would be at least a 1.5 hour drive for me each way. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know here or by pm.

I had my surgery on 8/15 by Dr. Reilly with TR Houston. Does anyone know when the support group meets? I can't find it in my paperwork. Feeling pretty good today minus the cold I have. First day was rough, but better once I realized I was only taking 1.5 ml of pain meds as opposed to 15 ml! Oops.

Hi everyone! I am so thankful for this site and the many people on here who share their experiences. I was banded on 3/1/11 and am actually going in for my first fill this Friday (4/15/11). I lost approximately 15 pounds since the day I went in for surgery and I had a relatively easy post-op with no complications and now that I have healed, I am pretty much having no issues with eating ANYTHING or any stuck episodes (at least not yet). Due to this, I have been pretty much practicing the High Protein - NO Carb (as in no simple carbs, no Pasta, no rice, no potatoes, no bread) primarily because I am very much a carb addict (I looooove potatoes and bread and can eat them a…

So had my band surgery in 2007. Thought it would be great. Barely had any Fluid in my band before I ended up getting ulcers at the base of my esophagus. Completely frustrated by the lack of concern from the physician. Anyways long store short I have had severe increase in acid reflux, I now have a esophageal hernia, anemia and pain all the time and found out the cause is because the band is to high. My food intake is very limited and it is completely frustrating that I have waited so long to get it taken care off. I wish I would have been one of the success stories. But at least I am on the waiting list for removal!! It's really nice being a part of this community and …

I can't stand it. I am on a 1200 calorie diet and certain people in my family feel the need to tell me I am eating too much. Apparently my weight loss says I am not. They don't want to know about my weight loss. Also I haven't had my first fill yet. Anyone else have this problem and how did you handle it? Sent from my SGH-M919 using LapBandTalk

Has anyone noticed since you've dropped a decent amount of weight how people are around you??? For instance, I have a friend who invited me over for Breakfast and offered me: Danishes, bagels, and assorted other carbs which are a huge no-no. I even attempted to "bring" healthy food such as omelets, and she still brought out coffee cake. It was so over whelming I wanted to leave. She isn't the only one either. Another thing Ive noticed is many people don't say anything. Like "you look great". Instead they say comment on your hair. The people I'm referring are extended family members. I hadn't seen some of these people, and others react like WOW, and family are li…

Hi I have had my band for 6 years, during the first three I lost over 100 pounds and was at goal. I started to suffer with quite bad acid reflux but before I could do anything about it I fell pregnant and removed most of the Fluid (still had 4cc in 10cc band with barely any restriction) I then had another baby quite quickly afterwards. Now my youngest is 10 months old so I tried to have a small fill and the reflux is so bad! I had it taken back out again....so it's probably a suspected slip so now I have had a total unfil. My question is has resting your band for 4 to 6 weeks fixed your slip? And do you think after such a long period of time it will work for me? I have…

I was banded May 30th. I had complications so I didn't get my first fill until the end of July. They put in 5cc's. At first I didn't feel restriction, but now I can go long periods without even thinking about food. Way longer than the recommended 3-4 hrs. I've been moving for the past week and yesterday I realized that I hadn't eaten all day at about 8 pm. That is not the norm by any means I know I must eat. I'm supposed to get a fill next Tuesday, but I'm thinking I might not need it. Not sure what to do....

Has anyone been really hungry after a fill? My doctor only requires liquids the night of the fill. Then back to normal food the next day. I feel like I am starving today! I haven't snacked like I often do so I have had less for the day but I have eaten three meals. Had dinner an hour ago and my stomach is growling. Seriously growling, not just head hunger!! If I didn't know better I would swear I got an unfill instead. Has anyone else experienced this?

This may sound negative to some, but... I have been researching weight loss surgery for about 2 years and just recently decided lap band is the right option for me. Looks like I am tentatively scheduled for 9/27/13 to be banded. However, even though I am ready for this - I know it's only a tool. The weight won't magically fall off, I'm still worried that it won't work for me. I still will have to deal with pre-op diet, post-op diet, and exercise BEFORE the fills. So many other diets have failed, if i could stick to eating healthy and exercise, i wouldn't have this problem with weight. Right? I understand that post-op I won't have much appetite but what about…

I am awaiting my final procedure (EDG on 8/22) and would love to meet others in my area who have had the lap band. More interested in people with starting weight close to mine so i can get an idea of what I will have to look forward to vs. someone more heavy \ less heavy than myself. I am currently 243 lbs and hope to get my procedure done on 9/20/13 at Las Vegas Surgery Center. Anyone familiar?

Went to a consignment shop today and found this cute 3/4 length cotton shirt, it was so me, size 2X, just knew it would fit because it was Croft & Barrow from Kohl's and althought I love Kohl's their brands run small on me unlike your more expensive stores like Dillards or Macy's but I went ahead and tried it on, well with disappointment it was too big but on the otherhand joy joy joy, too big right? Needless to say I left with nothing. Guess I should hit Kohl's to see about 1X's on sale...I see I need to shop. Oh and another one, bought a bra yesterday, size 38DD, instead of a 40DD, I was wearing a 44DD when I started. I really wanted to buy the 38D but couldn't a…
