rebanding after erosion?

Recommended Posts

Anyone get rebanded (or know of anyone who has) after an erosion? I had my band from March of 2010 until July of 2012, and lost 123 lbs. I was having a lot of pain in my chest and thought it was from an over-filled band. Had an unfill done under floroscope and they saw the band had completely eroded into my stomach, which had formed scar tissue over it. Now, a year later, I'm putting on weight despite following weight watchers and am looking into getting rebanded. My insurance (tricare) only covers bypass, banding and stomach stapling.

I've not dealt with that, but I do know most surgeons are very reluctant to reband when there is erosion and a lot of scar tissue involved. A lot of times it's not an option at all because of the amount of damage to the stomach. Many opt for the Sleeve rather than rebanding.

I would talk to your bariatric surgeon and see what he says. He knows your situation and what's best for your health.

Best wishes.

My doc won't reband after an erosion either, says the risk of complication is too high....good luck! I've had my RNY 6 months now and its been such smooth sailing compared to my 3 years with a band :)

The statistics of something happening to a 2nd band once theres complications from the first are really high. I wouldn't risk it.

My band slipped last year and 5 weeks ago I had a sleeve revision. Lost 18 lbs of the 30 I gained over the last year that it was slipped. Only about 26 lbs left to goal. Glad to be rid of my contraption (as my hubby called it!). Took my dr 30 minutes to dig it out of my stomach. It was totally embedded.

Good luck to you!

I was given the option to rebrand or gastric bypass after erosion with open gi bleeding. I love the band but personally grid bypass wasn't the scary thing I was told it was, actually saved my life! I' blve most do well with then band but pray those who don't consider it bc I woke up with color I haven't had in years.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
