Recently had an episode of reflux that caused me to aspirate my own stomach contents...two words....GROSS, and OUCH! I have had reflux on and off since November of last year and in Dec went for a barium swallow. Dr said nothing was wrong so wrote me as script for some zantac and I was on my way. Well this particular episode was so bad if I could have had a conversation with someone I would have been talking to 9-1-1 because I couldnt breath between coughing and the acid in my lungs...not cool. I eventually got it under control and decided to call my Dr. Guess what....on holidays for another 2 weeks!!! I then called the smartshape number to talk to one of the nurses …

I had not had a good fill in a while and recently went and got anther fill. Prior to this fill I was able to have dinner about 8 pm and go to sleep by 11 with no problem. Since my last fill, I find that I need to have dinner by 6 or so in order to not have and issues at night. I feel like I still have food in my pouch if I eat later on when I go to sleep. I was thinking that if it gets too late to eat dinner, it would be best to have a shake. I am just curious when others fell they need to stop eating at night.

Hello fellow lapbanders, I am 1 month and 1 week post op and went for my first full yesterday and received 3.6cc in my band. I am on liquids for the remainder of the day. I have read that feeling week and irritable is normal due to the adjustment. I have lost 25 lbs so far and am trying to not let my emotions get the best of me due to this restriction. Is there any advice anyone could share about there experiences with adjustments? Thank you, Brittany

I'm almost a year out from getting my band. I'm FINALLY in a good Green Zone. I'm glad to finally get there because I was almost starting to wonder if my band had a leak or something! It was fill after fill and I seemed to be hungry quite often. My journey has been wonderful and without any problems and I've lost 105 pounds so far. (Lots more to go to get to the goal I set for myself!) But now, I seemed to have lost interest in food!! I'm sure it's a good problem to have, but is this normal? I can eat anything and don't have any issues, but I don't really have much of an appetite or desire lately for food. I do make sure I get in my Protein and I have been exercising mo…

So, my port flipped over the weekend for no apparent reason. I am going in on Monday morning and he's going in through my old incision to flip it back over and restitch it. It sounds like no big deal but my question is.... a. how is the recovery from this thing? I mean, I'm planning on going back to work the next day and just don't know if I will be in too much pain or not. b. is it painful under general anesthesia? he's not putting me under, just doing a local I guess, so I'll be awake during the procedure c. anything else I should know? I hate needles and just getting the IV for the CAT scan to figure out what had happened was stupidly painful. they …

Ok, you don't have to answer that, LOL. Anyway, I had my lap banding on 5/10/13 and have lost 34 to 35 lbs. I'm bouncing that last lbs. My surgeon doesnt want to fill me. I have absolutely nothing in my band. They removed what little was in at time of surgery on day 3 or 4 due to nausea and I'm told by surgeon probably stomach swelling. Since then, every time I visit, 3 times total, he says he doesnt want to do a fill. I have lost the last 15 lbs by dieting regularly and diligently. I don't recognize saity and usually quit because I know I should. I go to the gym daily and really feel like I should see some results. In the last month, I've lost 2.5 lbs and like …

I was banded 12 years ago by dr Leung in surrey, bc. When I was banded, I was lucky to have my surgery covered by bc medical . about 6 months later, they stopped all funding. I have had three port revisions. I currently have an infected port. I called dr.leung, but his phone is not in service ...hmmm.. I was told dr. Amson assisted in my original surgery. I called his office, and they agreed to see me. Yesterday he told me my port needed to be removed ASAP and I needed to be on antibiotics and then my port replaced. He could not do it or me. He suggested dr woodhesd or another dr. I called both today, and was told they would not fix it for me, however if I wante…

I've had my band for a little over a year. Had my last fill about three months ago. Have had four total and doc does not tell me how much he puts in. Anyway, Saturday night my family and I went out to eat, I got a sunrise margarita and a Burger sans bun. While I was drinking my margarita I noticed that it was giving me really bad heartburn, so much that I didn't even finish it. After that when I tried to eat some burger I just couldn't, food was just sitting in my pouch and not going anywhere. Tried maybe two bites stopped and took the rest home. When I got home much later I tried again to eat a little same thing, didn't force it just stopped and figured things would go…

Today I had my first fill. I live just outside Amersham in the UK and had to go to Harely Street in London for my fill. Only been in the UK for 5 years and my experience with the London train/rail system is not extensive. Recipe for disaster: Take one home-grown Texan with no sense of direction, mix with one crazy London transport system, add one non Texan (or English) speaking taxi driver.... Yep that was my morning. Got lost in Marylebone station. Finally got out of the station and had to take a bus to Harely Street. In case anyone was wondering when on a London bus and your stop flashes on the info screen it does not mean the bus will stop. You must hit the con…

Ok, I just went to Chicago last week and when we went to restaurants and my question is we only ordered one meal for my wife and I'd just eat one of the appetizers and then something small off her plate. You have to LOVE not buying to meals at expensive restaurants lol. But I digress, my question centers around how much to tip? Technically its 10, 15, or 20% of the bill however since its two people eating off of one meal should I factor in a smaller low cost meal and add extra for a tip? What is hoyle for tipping when you are sharing a meal? Is it fair to tip only on the cost of one plate since its two people that the server is serving???? Honestly I never thought a…

I'm scheduled for surgery 8/15 and want to be prepared. I never take any medication, except for the occasional anti-biotic when I get sick (and pain meds after I had children). Is it true that you cannot take any more pills while banded? If so, do you leave your surgery with a prescription for liquid painkillers, liquid/chewable stool softeners, etc. I could not find liquid vitamins, so I bought the gummy kind. Is this acceptable? Or would that get "stuck"? Thanks in advance for your help.

I have spent the last 4 weeks with the most severe back pain of my life. Of course, we overlook the obvious. I thought for certain I was having a heart attack, or kidneys failing, kidney stones or gallbladder issues -- none of which would be out of the question. My fiancé suggested that perhaps the pain was directly associated with my lap band as the pain started immediately after my last fill. No, I assured him, I am having a heart attack. Now, I have done a little research and am stunned to find out there are others out there that have experienced the same. The pain is intensely sharp, like a dagger to my mid back. Much. much worse at night and thankfully, my fian…

So here is a brief re-cap of my story...I was banded on 5/14/08 and my high weight was 291, as of this morning I weigh 213. I still don't know what my goal weight is but I know I am not there yet! I am going to start the 5 day pouch test today as I want to feel like I am starting over from the beginning and make myself accountable again for everything that goes into my mouth!!! When I started my journey I was so motivated, for 2 years I had no soda, very little sugar (birthdays, holidays only) but have slowly gotten off track. I can remember reading posts like this when I was first starting out and thinking to myself who in the world would put themselves through all of th…

I just wanted to ask if anyone here is working nights or graveyard and if so, what kind of hours? I got 3:30pm to 2:00am M-Th,1:30pm to 10:00pm F&Sat. 56 hours total. My biggest question if those of us that work this stupid shift, where do you find time to exercise and sleep enough? I haven't even walked much less hit the gym in a week because of this new schedule. On top of that I think I have too much Fluid in my band because I can't eat my food unless I magically transform it into a slider. I'm having a real time with portions and head hunger as well. My weight has stalled for over a month, seems like I can't get enough calories in to match my activity level.…

I know it may sound like a small thing to many but I made it through a Saturday out with my mom while on my liquid diet. Every Saturday she and I go shopping and usually have lunch out. I have an 18 month old we take with us. I am 5 days into my pre op diet and we went shopping today. We stopped at McDonald's for her and my son to get a bite to eat. I got myself a diet soda which I am able to have during the diet. I love McDonald's grilled snack wraps. They sat and ate and I survived. I have to say it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Maybe I am finally getting the mind part of this down. I hope so I am so worried about after surgery! http://journalofa…

I am almost 8 weeks post op ,,, at my 6 week post op check up I would have about 4 oz of protein & 1 cup vegetables & feel extremely satisfied. Now i feel hungry all the time. Would this be normal? Why would this be? Do I need a fill? Im scheduled to go back the 1st week of sept. Can I get a fill before then? Kinda feel like the next few weeks would be a waste if the band was not helping. I feel like I'm now on a diet before I had the band, always hungry & starving myself. Any advise would be appreciated.

Can someone what one can drink or eat after you get a fill. I haven't had a fill in a super long time and I got one on Tuesday which puts me at 9cc. But I forgot what I can or can't eat and I ate some thing this morning that got stuck in my back and I was miserable. OMG I was doubled over for hours.

My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 6th, I plan on going back to work on the 12th. I don't have access to a microwave at work, just a fridge and a Keruig coffee maker (i use for hot water). I am wondering what I will be able to bring to eat/drink during the liquid stage and the mushies stage to keep satisfied during the nine hours I'm there. I work in an office with one other person who is very particular about the office smelling like food when the clients come in. Can you all help with some ideas. I use to keep candy, crackers and chips in my drawer for snacking. I won't be doing that anymore.

I got a fill on Monday (.5 cc, taking me up to 8.5). I had liquids on Monday, mushies on Tuesday and regular food on Wednesday. Breakfast was ricotta cheese and lunch was filet. No problems. For dinner, I was on the road and stopped at Wendy's. I got a small chili, but grabbed a few fries from my son, which got stuck and I threw up what I call 'a jellyfish'. Since then, no matter what I eat, it gets stuck. So much so that Water hurts going down tonight. Thoughts on whether I'm too tight or could I be swollen, give myself a rest and go on liquids for a bit? After I threw up, I, almost immediately, ate again. Ugh, I'm out of town for a week and can't get to to doct…

Hi Everyone, I joined this forum back in December 2005 just a few months before having my first lap band done. I now have my 3rd lap band and still feel at a loss. I stopped coming on here for a very long time cause I was just getting so down and frustrated with the whole thing. My first band slipped and I had that one replaced. The second one broke inside me, the buckle broke and it took me so many appointments with the surgeon to try and listen to me when I was telling him that it wasn't right. Now I have the third one in and that was done almost 2 years ago. I have gotten no where in the whole time that I have had all these bands put in. I feel like giving up but at …

I've been making bento boxes for a couple of years now...to the point that it borders on mild obsession and it just occurred to me that bento boxes are (luckily) basically the perfect for people with lap bands! Tiny, gorgeous boxes, carefully filled with visually stunning, nutritionally dense, interesting food, and they're designed to be portable- what could be more appropriate for people who rely on portion control and careful nutrition? Bento boxes are practically tailor made for people with lap bands! I had a short period where I was only making my husband's lunch bentos and for some reason I wasn't making my own between the surgery and a few days ago (first fi…

One month and 3 days post surgery. My first fill is tomorrow. I currently have 1.5 cc in a 12 cc band. I am keeping my daily calorie intake between 1000 and 1200 calories a day. For the last week I have lost.....nothing!!! I have only lost 5kg since my surgery on June 29th so weight has been moving slowly. My big concern is that with controlling my calories now and I am not losing how does it bode for me moving forward? Having a moment... need a voice of sanity!!

Believe it or not all of these have one thing in common! I was banded 7/11 so 23 days ago.. since day 5 post surgery I have been able to burp (thank goodness because when my stomach is empty, I burp, a lot..) I am really not a big fan of hard alcohol or wine. I enjoy a beer or two every once in a blue moon, have read several previous threads with mixed responses and a lot of them warn against beer due to carbonation, but if I am able to burp without any problem does that make it different? Oh only have 5 oz in my band if that makes any difference... dr said ok but expect swelling but surgeons heavily warn against any alcohol due to erosion potential

Yogurt and protein drinks just didn't cut it! My stomach was growling and I just want food! So tomorrow I am supposed to start mushy foods, but couldn't hold out! I went to the store and bought chicken salad. I swear I could not spoon it in fast enough, before I knew it I had my half cup (note to self, put in bowl so you know to stop after a half cup. Good news is that I didn't vomit at all and I stopped myself at a 1/2 cup. I will wait a little bit and drink water...god I want something of substance but trying to stay strong...trying, lol. So far I have lost 7 pounds post surgery. I don't feel it since my tummy is still swelling (went back to work and I am walking …

I have had my band for 5 years and have had a lot of issues with it. It slipped and I had to have it readjusted, I am only able to tolerate micro-fills and have really had a hard time with night coughs, etc. I haven't had a fill in over a year and find that I am not hungry, generally, but I know that I am not getting enough fruits and vegetables (especially) so I bought a Nutribullet extractor and have been drinking vegetable/fruit combo smoothies and loving them. The problem: Gas. Horrible, horrible pains. I don't know if this is something that my system will adjust to or if this is just not going to be an option for me. I hate to give it up. I try to drink one sm…

I'm in the Mason, Ohio area. Had my lapband about 4 years ago and did great then not so great and now I'm almost back where I freakin' started! Was out of work and no insurance for a couple years but have just gotten back to the doctor a couple months ago for a fill (I have 5.5. cc). Have been doing well but I feel like it would help a lot to have a buddy/buddies and/or a mentor. I track using my fitness pal. But now I'm stuck and even gained the past couple weeks. Going to the gym 3x's per week at least doing cardio and strength. I feel...lost tho for some reason. Shannon

I am going to see my doctor tomorrow for the first time in two years. I have failed miserably by trying to make the almighty dollar at all cost including my health. I have been working and traveling non stop and justified my eating and drinking by the amount of work I was doing. I took customers out all the time and ate what they ate and drank what they drank. I have hit rock bottom and finally made a decision that I thought I had made when I was banded 4 years ago. I decided now it is my time. I have switched jobs and am much happier and now have time for me and my family instead of work work work. I am so embarrassed at how I have failed and need as much su…
