Where R my Struggling Bandsters? There's still hope!

Just wanted to share my weight loss struggle! I had the lap band in 2009 lost about 60 pounds in 1 year. Everyday was a struggle, and for about 2 years I never found true restriction and would only lose weight by not eating and/or throwing up...Alot of foods just would not go down at all. I pretty much gained back all of the weight and accepted that I was a lap band failure. I know a few people who failed with the band, it happens, but what's not ok is giving up. I can only speak for myself, and the lap band was not the best tool for ME. I can honestly say, I have never been more pleased with my results with the gastric sleeve. I can actually eat dense protein now without feeling stuck or throwing up, I actually can eat anything/everything in small portions and stay satisfiried. I am 8 months post op and have lost more than 80 pounds since June, In total from my heaviest its 102lbs! I'm not tryna bash the lap band, I just want those who are still struggling for years to know that there is still hope! You may want to look into getting a revision to the gastric sleeve. Congrats to those who have reached their goals with the band. Goodluck to u all...Below is my weight loss video...Dr.David Buchin is the doctor you would want to see if u live in NY and are interested in the sleeve

I have been struggling. I have gained back all my weight! I lost 40 over the past 4 years' date=' and gained almost all if it back in the past 6 months. I have learned that I have to exercise. If I don't, I gain!

My entire family looks at me like I am a failure. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />[/quote']

Wow... My heart goes out to you - I know it's extremely difficult to struggle lose and gain and have people (especially family) be critical of you.

The question isn't what happened in the past but what will you do TODAY. Not tomorrow or this week or next week or after Memorial Day etc... But what will you do today ?

Exercise ... YES, everyone I have known with long term success exercises.

What will you do today ?

Hope in your Future is Power in your PRESENT!

I understand the pain, people will look at u as if ur a failure, its ok though, show them that with patience, u will get there

Insurance did cover my revision..QUICK TIP: If ur lookin to get a revision, some insurance companies make u do a 6 month supervised weight loss program. YOU DO NOT NEED TO DO THIS! I WAS LIKE THE HELL WITH THIS! LMAO I SPENT ALL THESE YEARS STUGGLING WITH THIS DAMN BAND N YALL GONNA ASK ME FOR ANOTHER 6 MONTHS? I CALLED MY LAP BAND DOC N ASKED THEM TO FAX ALL MY DOCUMENTS TO MY NEW DOCTOR AND I HAD MY NEW DOCTOR FAX ALL MY PAST LAP BAND DOCUMENTED VISITS TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY :) N THATS WAY MORE THAN 6 MONTHS ,THAT COVERED LIKE 2 YEARS...I WAS APPROVED RIGHT AWAY...JUST THOUGHT I THROW THAT TIP OUT THERE...SORRY TO WRITE IN CAPS IM JUST STRESSIN THE IMPORTANCE OF APPEALING IF THEY TRY TO THROW THAT AT U GUYS

What a great story! You look great!!

I have to admit that even though I've had success with the band, and live with it easily, if push came to shove and I wasn't able to live with it anymore, I would be looking at what else in terms of WLS was available to me. I don't think the bandster lifestyle is for everyone for sure, and I love that we all have different choices that we can make to find our way to our own success.

I'm glad you finally found your perfect solution!

Wow you look terrific! I'm struggling with an A-hole for a PCP. He feels I should have lost at least 20 lbs. among since 12/28. I've lost 47. I'm happy with 47 but he expected me to lose 100 by now. Slow and steady wins the race I say.

You are NOT a failure. I'm a slow loser and I have an A-hole for a PCP Who considers losing 47 lbs in a 6 1/2 month period a complete failure. My mindset says that I'm in this for me, not for my family, not for my PCP but for me! Get that frame of mind set for you. Start a liquid diet again if need be. My problem is not that I don't exercise but I can't exercise due to my many disabilities. I can however now walk with a shopping cart instead of riding a mobility cart to shop. That's a HUGE accomplishment for me! Just keep your eye on the prize and that's a slimmer healthier you! I've said this on many threads but I'll say it again... Be selfish! This is for you and no one else no matter how long it takes. It's not for your family or your primary care physician, this is for you! As far as exercise goes if you can only walk one block today, walk a block and a half the next day. If it takes you a long time so be it! You can do this and I wish you much success for your future. Blessings to you!

Wow! Your PCP is an A- hole, so was mine! I don't think my PCP really knew all the result numbers of the lap band either. He said something to me after a year and I only lost 30 pounds so I had to educate HIM on the lap band and what the weight loss results could be. He was much more understanding after that, ( he must have gone home and educated himself more on it lol ) I have talked to my surgeon and I'm in the process of getting an approval for Gastric bypass,
