Hi friends. Well, today is the day. I have to be at the hospital 12:30PM Eastern time. My surgery is scheduled for 2. I honestly feel so sick right now and my stomach is cramping. I am having a terrible, terrible anxiety attack, and I just want to cry. Positive words will make me feel better ?????

Just had my month and a half check up (30 pounds lost!) And talked to my Dr about protein. Premier and like drinks make me very nauseated. I tried non whey, and they are better but still make me feel off. I was wanting to try something maybe not as sweet, hoping it's just that the chocolatey/vanilla/strawberry drinks are too sweet, so thinking of trying something new. Was wondering if anyone had any that they suggest and like? I saw the protein shots on here, but my Dr said I would need 3-4 a day, and at $10 for a 4 pack I can't really afford it. I also saw the liquid protein that you can mix with your own fluids, wondering if anyone had tried those and like those? …

I don't have surgery until December, but thoroughly enjoy reading everyone's NSV or what NSV they can't wait for! I thought it would be fun to mix it up a bit and ask that we share our most private/embarrassing NSV or the ones we normally wouldn't tell anyone! My two most private/embarrassing to admit NSV's will be: 1. Wiping with ease! 2. Grocery shopping without sweating like I have just worked out at the gym!

Hello everyone! I am chugging along, feeling great 86 pounds lighter 4.5 months post op from my fantastic new tool, my VSG. This is one of the best things I have ever done in my life. I was well prepared, I feel, and have been fortunate to have no complications as of yet. I exercise an hour a day aiming for 6 days per week since I learned research shows that long term weight maintenance after weight loss requires 250-300 minutes of exercise per week. I am still eating about 1/4-1/3 cup of protein per meal, along with about the same serving size of veg or fruit. For milk and protein supplement, I'm drinking Fairlife milk. My pants are down 8 sizes, tops are down 4 siz…

Well in 9 hours or so I’ll be going into surgery! We are planning on a vsg by my surgeon and I have worked out a plan for a mini bypass if I have too much scar tissue from a slipped lap band 4 years ago. Honestly I can deal with either and just want to wake up and get well a soon as possible to get back to my kids. Best wishes to anyone else having surgery this week.

Hey everyone!! I've been stalking this forum for a few months now as I've been jumping through all the hoops my insurance required for surgery. I finished up all my requirements last month and found out yesterday that my surgery has been approved and scheduled for October 2nd, 2018. I'm a 24yr old female, 230lbs, 5'2 and this will be my first surgery. I'm extremely anxious about it and have had the last 6 months to drive myself crazy looking up all the information I can about it. I go back and forth from almost giving myself a panic attack to being eerily calm about the whole thing. I'm not worried about backing out, I'm simply not that type of person. I'm more worried a…

Hey all— I am 5 days post op from sleeve surgery. I finally was able to sleep on both sides and slight stomach sleep last night. I wake up this morning to sharp pain on right side under rib cage with pain radiating to neck/shoulder of same side. Have a hard time taking a deep breath but can if done slowly. No nausea. Sipping Water so far today is fine. Started full liquid stage yesterday which included some protein drink, egg drop soup (sans the egg,) sugar free popsicles and since it was my birthday, a small container of sugar free jello pudding. Had no issues with any of that yesterday. Thoughts?

I'm hoping to start a food/life hack discussion here, so we can share things that help us in the journey for everybody's benefit. I've started doing a big batch of cooking on Sundays, so I have easily accessible food during the week. I just did a big batch of grilled chicken that I can add to salad or eat on its own this week for lunches. I also cooked a filet that is big enough for 3 servings for my new smaller stomach. Plus I cooked spicy ground turkey to add to salsa & veggies for lettuce wraps or add to beans for chili. It helps me be far less tempted to snack on junk or processed food when I'm too busy to cook during the week. How about you guys? Tha…

I feel like I didn’t deserve this opportunity because of the way I’ve been treating this gift. I’m five months in and I don’t track, I eat low carb but sometimes I eat junk like pizza like two slices which isn’t normal. I also don’t exercise, or take my vitamins. I’ve missed my three month check up I know it’s unacceptable but I’ve lost motivation and no one is here to push me. Fortunately I’ve been lucky enough that I’m still losing weight which is crazy I started 115kg and I’m at 89kg. I need help is it too late to fix this? How do I get motivated again?

I am so confused!! I know “we” play by different rules when it comes to diet but.... if 1 pound is 3,600 calories and a normal intake is 1,500 - 2,000 per day and “we” only take in 500-700 wouldn’t we lose a significant weight no matter what? Then why is it so hard and some don’t? Water, protein, and work outs aside and only looking at the straight caloric intake. I just can’t wrap my head around it. Why do we lose quicker in the pre-diet than we do after surgery? Anyone else confused?

Came home and immediately clogged the toilet. Literally. Light headed and crawling into bed with ice chips. Chewing might be over rated my new friends

I really am over this! I am 1 week post op and feel .... UGH! I am a creature of habit so eating/drinking the same thing doesn’t bother me unless I start dreaming of all the food I want and can’t have. The clear protein SUCKS!!!!!! I’m just now able to really drink water. Needless to say I haven’t had enough protein and I’m dehydrated causing hot/cold flashes, not sleeping well, and fatigued would be an understatement. A prosciutto wrapped mozzarella would go a long way right now. I can now have the Premier chocolate protein drink so I drank 2 and have drank 2 bottles of water so I feel a little better. Band to sleeve is no joke!!!

This is an oddly specific question, but I'm just wondering: post-sleeve (and I don't mean immediately, I mean longer-term), are you all able to eat maki (sushi rolls)? I mean, probably not an entire roll to yourself, but part of a roll? Those are real big bites, which seems problematic for a bariatric patient. If you are able to eat it, are there any special things you do? Take bites, even though that's super awkward? Deliberately find smaller rolls to order? Make your own, so you can control the roll size? Obviously, if I'm weighing getting my arthritis under control versus eating sushi, it's clear which one wins. I'm not canceling my surgery if everyone says "Nope,…

Hello, Does Any one go to Gainesville, FL. UF Shands - Surgeon is Dr. Friedman? I go there and trying to have the sleeve. He suggested the bypass but I was too scared to do that procedure. I go Wednesday to have my barium swallow and ekg. I am hoping to have surgery in May. Is anyone else see this doctor or getting surgery in May? I live in Jacksonville but I have to go to Gainesville to have the surgery.

So I started at 304lbs ( 21' 10 ) for the uk'ers and blimey did I feel every pound! I have lost steadily and I am now 245lbs (17' 7!) so very chuffed, and cannot believe how much my life has changed. Here are a couple of before and afters, one at my heaviest and the other, two days ago for clarity. I can't really see a massive difference myself but others have told me they can definitely see it, can you?

Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum (well I've been registered and lurking since my surgery) and am 9 days Post Op (surgery date 8/10/18). I am having a very very hard time with getting in my fluids and protein shakes. I think I'm having issues with knowing how to "pace" or "sip" I tried having some soup (butternut squash like pureed) and I felt like I over ate each time, same with chicken broth I think I might sip on it too fast? I try to sip water throughout the day and I get nervous that I'm going to go too fast or take too much or do something wrong to my baby stomach. I have already been to the dr once for IV fluids and a b 12 shot and I don't want to …

Hi! I'm curious to see how many calories you all consume that are more than 2 years post op? I currently do weight watchers to help keep me on track, all while sticking to the "rules" of VSG surgery. So far it's been extremely successful! However, if you guys know about WW, you are tracking points and NOT macros. I recently started tracking my points and also tracking in myfitnesspal, but I'm not sure that my calories are in a good spot.

I have edema in both legs- my left is much worse, I take Lasix- 40mg. it has gone down slightly since my surgery on 8/6. I tried oils, massage, wrapping, also a machine called Verso that only fit on my foot it was meant to fit on the calf but that def. wouldn't happen. I wonder if the people who made the product even know what edema does. I was wondering if anyone else has seen a big improvement after weight loss, I really hope that it goes away. Thanks for any thoughts.

So one of my next steps is getting my letter of medical necessity from my PCP. (keep in mind i'm self-pay so its more surgeon requires it vs insurance required) Well my doctor don't really believe in gastric bypass b/c in the past when i've mentioned it he said no and wants to slap me on more diet pills (which work for a bit but not long term). I'm worried he will say no. Has anyone else had this happen? What did you do? And did the surgeon go ahead and do the surgery anyways?

I am struggling and so frustrated. I had my last period the day of my surgery 5/2/18. I have not had one since. I am 48 years old, wondering if the surgery triggered menopause. I have PMS symptoms every month which are getting worse. I feel sad, depressed, cry too easily and get angry so quickly. I am upset because my weight loss is so slow and am afraid that I won’t lose the weight I need to. I lose 1/2 lb to a 1 lb a week if I am lucky, seem to stall frequently. I know I need to increase my exercise but just feel so miserable that I can barely get through the day. I feel like a failure, I weighed 206 on the day of my surgery and weigh 184 now. 22 lbs in 3 months when th…

On track to get sleeved in January. I have days where I’m super excited, and other days where I feel so scared. What did you do to push past your fear? How did you truly know you were ready? I’m told by my PCP and Bariatric office that I’m a great candidate. My husband is supportive. But I’m so scared of the “what ifs” with both surgery and life after. I’m so glad this forum exists so I can read your experiences and share mine.

Today I was giving a second chance, when I went to get a hiatal hernia fixed since it never was at time of my sleeve surgery like must of people do.. Gained almos 60 lbs back in just 6 months went to my new weight loss doctor and had an endoscopy to check my sleeve and he found the hernia and asked me why I never had it fixed.. well long story short I had the surgery done today and he fixed the hernia and also readjusted my sleeve that had stretched a bit! I say a second chance since I’m pretty much starting like my first surgery post-op. I haven’t been here in a while and shamed on me this place has helped me so much. Today I share my story all over again and hop…

Hello there, I am considering getting my VSG done with Dr Michel Gagner in Montreal, Quebec. I am self-pay and live in Toronto. It is so hard to find a reputable and experienced surgeon but one that won't cost $20,000 here in Canada. So far everything seems good with this doctor and he is clearly a pioneer in the field, however, a lot of his material and reviews are pretty dated... there is a lack of current reviews dating 2017-2018. I don't know, I just feel for a pioneer, there would be a slew of reviews and videos. The great thing is he's rate #1 in Montreal on ratemd. Any help would be very appreciated.

Hey guys I wanted to come in and let you all know that I have one more Dr and this is the hardest one yet my Endoscopy/Colonoscopy, because of my age just turned 41 last Friday, and that my mom passed away from cancer it's early detection and mandatory now for a check up to see if there are any polyps. I'm praying to get a December surgery to start the new year right. I'm around 230-236 my ideal goal is 135, I want to go down first to 180 and after slowly go down. Prayers for ones who had it done and for the ones having it.....April

Hi! I was sleeved on Friday (8/17/18). I am just so hungry. However, I am craving like chicken breast and brown rice! I would do anything for real food! Tomorrow I get to start pudding and creamed soups! I am so very excited. Hopefully once I start eating normal food, I will no longer feel this weird sense of hunger. Anyone else feel this way? Am I just missing solids?

Good morning. I am 90 days post op, have had not one issue, surgery was a piece of cake, recovery was totally painless and up until the past two or three weeks..........its been a breeze. Now, when I eat, regardless of what I eat, I feel nauseated, almost as soon as it hits my stomach. I am eating small amounts, chewing as directed, etc. Anyone have any idea's as to what would be causing this at this point???? Never thrown up, just get nauseated. Thanks for any input!!
