Hello everyone! I’ve been pretty quite on here choosing to focus on the 6-month approval period for my insurance and plugging away at school (takes up most of my life). So after my insurance approved me I have my date for VSG on Sept. 7th. I’m excited and now have to get all the pre-op testing done. Just wanted to share my excitement. Thanks!

I am a T1 and have been for 46 years. I am on an insulin pump and use the continuous glucose monitor system.I am contemplating having the sleeve done I said I wanted to meet with 3 surgeons then decide which one. I am very pre op considering I don't have a surgeon or date. I anticipate first of next year. I will have to do counseling prior. My concern is my blood sugar dropping too low. I am curious about post op people and what does their diet consist of once they are able to eat. I will be on here often so I can't wait to see the replies and continue to learn. Have a great night.

Hi all, I was supposed to get a MGB done but I changed my mind and opted to go for a sleeve instead. Although my doctor suggest MGB I am certain I can make the Sleeve work for me. But I do have a few questions: 1 - For someone who does not have a history of reflux - how likely am I to get it post opt? Would the type of good play a factor? 2 - Alcohol. I plan to stay away from beer what so ever but what about enjoying some occasional whiskey or vodka? 3 - Would 'dumping syndrome' be a menace? Look forward to hearing back from you all.

  6. I’m 4 weeks post-op and sweets and chocolate which were my goto in the past just are not appealing any more. I don’t crave them and I can only take 1 bite of sugar free puddings or any thing like that. I know that your taste can change after surgery, anyone else feel this way. It’s actually a good thing for me, I hope it stays this way I’ve had a really bad relation ship with these foods in the past.

  7. Hi! I have a job interview next week for a teaching position. You usually need to do a practice lesson so they can see how you teach. Will I be able to teach for 30 minutes after my surgery? Surgery is on Friday! They wanted the demo on Monday, but I really don’t think that is a good idea. What do you think??????

Sorry for all the posts/questions, but this is all so new to me and I don’t really have anyone to ask questions of. Today I’m 6 days post-op and I feel that between trying to get my protein and water, I am constantly putting something in my mouth and I’m feeling so fulll all the time. I still haven’t gotten all that I”m supposed to each day yet even doing that. I am just at a loss—is this normal in the beginning? What have others experienced?

So I will be 3 months out from VSG on the 21st of August and as of today I've lost 37 pounds. My highest weight was 428 May of 2017 and I weighed 373 the morning of surgery. I was stalled almost the whole month of July but ended up losing a little over 6 pounds at the end of the month... I eat about 1000-1200 per my nutritionist with 80-100g of protein and 50-75g of carbs and exercise 45 mins a day, 6 days a week. Any suggestions or help? Am I not eating enough? I can eat about 4-5oz of meat and some veggies, I just don't know if I'm just a slow loser or what... Anyone weighing 350+ that was a slow loser still lose a lot of weight within a year or two... I'm just worried …

Having started this journey at 412lb (BMI 54.4) in April last year, and having lost 102lb prior to my surgery on 1st March 2018, and another 83.5lb since then, I am now officially overweight at a BMI of 29.9! I am still a ways from my goal, but today I am feeling very pleased with myself.

  12. Here's a good one for ya'll..... I've lost 43 pounds thus far and the only piece of clothing that's too big for me is the cup size of my bra!!!! FIGURES! But that's ok, I'll take weight loss anywhere and still be ecstatic! Thank the Lord for Gastric Sleeve!

Hi , So today I had my endoscopy. I was so nervous ? practically scared. But anyways all went well. My Dr. discovered a very small polyp and removed it . He said it was nothing to worry about. It was significantly very small. ? . This was the last step to complete for insurance approval Yaaay!!!! ?

  15. im eating the ricotta bake a lot, tired of tuna and chicken salad. Still drinking shakes and hoping to hear some ideas from you all.

Today I had my main test which was the Endoscopy and the doctor that performed it said everything was normal and good and I’m super excited because I know the mini physical they will do on the 17th of August will be good and since I’m self pay, I was able to avoid all the other test mainly the Endoscopy and my PCP sending approval and labs as all my doctor required, so my date is still September 7th pending the time(AM or PM) however, my doctor don’t give that until about a week before and I’m super excited, I can barely stand the wait.

Hi!! I'm new here as I was recommended to get involved in gastric sleeve support group. I'm wondering if anyone is in my same boat. I had surgery March 31 2017. I have lost 90 pounds and no where near my goal weight. I feel as though people who have had the surgery by a year are way past me. Or they have aleat made it some what close to their goal. I'm stuck and I actually gained weight as I maintained 207 for a few months until recently. I do everything possible to lose the rest, but my knees are bad,so I only walk. I admit, I eat whatever my parents which most of the time isn't healthy, but I only eat a little because I never get a full feeling so I…

  18. I had my sleeve done in 2016 and lost 112lbs. At almost exactly 2 years post op I found out I was pregnant (was a huge surprise). Recently I just delivered I gained 54lbs when pregnant. I have lost 10lbs, I'm breastfeeding and only 2 week out from delivery. It's my first and last baby I'll ever had. I don't know what is normal to expect after having a child. Like I lost 10lbs but recently gained 2lbs back. Is fluctuating normal a few weeks after having a baby.. also when is it safe for me to go back to a liquid diet? As I said I'm breastfeeding and don't want to effect that. Any diet plans from other sleevers that I can follow that have breastfed. Everyone keeps telling m…

  19. Hi all. Today was a milestone for me. Had sleeve surgery July 10th and today was my first big family get together. Lots of family and food. I am proud of myself. Asked ahead of time for chicken and veges I could eat. Stayed away from hamburgers and hot dogs and birthday cake. Not easy but I did it.

Hello, I'm 9 days post opt and otherwise ok. The only problem is I'm not regular anymore. Usually like clockwork every morning I'm able to have BMS but now, nothing. I called the on call Drs but no response and my surgeon is not back in the office until 8/15. Anyone ever experience this before and how did you deal with it?

  21. Question I am 3 weeks Post Op and Sat evening I started having discomfort/pain 2 inches or so above my large incision. I felt like I needed to hold it just to walk.. I was fine before that day. I must mention, I did a lot of walking that day.... more than usual. I called my Dr and I’m going in tomorrow, but wanted some insight from anyone that experienced this before.

I am 3 weeks out from surgery today. I have gained and lost the same five pounds the last two weeks. I am the type of person that needs to see results. Not seeing them was getting really discouraging. I read about the plateau and that it can last anywhere between a week to over a month. That was slightly reassuring to find out it was normal but I caught myself last night stressing that I did the surgery for nothing and slipped into a state of self pity until I fell asleep. Thankfully, I got up this morning and I am down 2 pounds from my lowest weight. I am hoping that is the end of the plateaus for a while. It pisses me off that I still l crave all the garbage that g…

  23. Well, today was weird. On the one hand, I am thrilled to be moving forward with pursuing gastric sleeve. I'm thrilled that apparently I don't have to wait six months before I can even schedule surgery. And why is that? I found out that my insurance company will not cover my surgery because my BMI is 37 and it needs to be 40, minimum, for them to cover it, unless I have other co-morbidity health issues, which I do not. I thought that having PCOS and asthma would be enough, but they aren't. It's weird to be pursing something for my health and told I am "unhealthy" enough to get the surgery and be a good candidate for it, but not "unhealthy" enough to have m…

10 mo out from VSG; down 120 lbs. Not had any problems other than low B-12. Just got told today that I have a urinary tract infection, was complaining about overall nausea and inability to Urinate more than a dribble, headaches and weakness/dizziness. I posted a poll a few days ago about acid reflux. 4 people said they developed acid reflux after gastric sleeve surgery. 5 people said there acid reflux got worse after gastric sleeve surgery. My question is to those that participated in the poll, or to those that fall into either one of these categories. Now for the question, have you been able to control the acid reflux? If so by what means? Thanks very much!

Six years ago today, I had my sleeve surgery. I was 275 pounds. My goal weight was 200 pounds. I hit my goal pretty quickly. I am proud to say that, six years later, I am still under 200 pounds. Im am 58. I just had my yearly physical. Before surgery I was unhealthy and pre-diabetic. Doc told me last week that I have the health and blood-work of a 30-year old.

I’m about 3 and a half months post op and I have only lost 2 pounds in the past 2-3 weeks. Is this a common time to have a stall? I’ve (only?) lost 42 pounds post surgery.

  28. So my benefit stuff have to go in by the end of October. I participate in a FSA. I found out that I can use my FSA for vitamins and protein supplements as long as the surgeon write a script saying they are required after surgery. problem is I won't have any idea of how much these things run until I actually start using them and I have to submit my estimate in October. So on average, how much do you feel you spend monthly on calcium citrate, multivitamins, B-12, etc. plus your protein shakes each month? My surgery is at the end of Dec. so I will but using a lot of protein shakes in the early part of the year I'm sure as I will be in the liquid phase still in January w…

Let me preface this by saying I'm 9 months post op and I know when to stop eating. I don't have a "tell" so I just had to learn by measurements. I started experimenting with intermittent fasting about a week ago, from 8 or 9pm to morning just water if needed. Morning to 1pm tea, or coffee with a little protein shake in it. Then food and fluids in between. Then back to the fasting. Apparently this has restarted my weight loss (stalled for 1month) and I just found out it reset my full point and which foods "slide". 1 cup of Greek yogurt (22 g protein) was a prior slider and now I'm in pain 3/4 the way through. I can't believe it. Yogurt prompts restriction a…

I'm 4 months out. I'm having issues watching what I eat to lose some weight. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had to freeze my gym membership for arthritis flare up in my knee and I feel I've gone backwards. I can start the gym again in about 10 days. Until then I need to try to do something. The depression is setting in because I feel horrible with how I let myself go and how I look.

  31. I am almost 6 weeks out, I had a 2 week stall at 3 and 4 weeks where I just bounced between 300 and 301 for the whole 2 weeks. Then, I went to 297 and have been bouncing between 296 and 297 for the last 2 weeks...I just feel like no matter what I do, I seem to just be stuck. I keep seeing the super successes of some people and it's hard for me to see it in myself right now....I just need to know that if I keep up with what I am doing that I can get to where I want to be....someday.

I’m in Alabama, it’s EXTREMELY hot and humid here most of the year. So it’s hard to go outside and walk (I’m still too heavy to work out hard), so I’m walking indoors in the mornings before I go to work, just walking around my home. I do it for at least 30 minutes but it’s not really helping my weight loss. I am eating healthy and losing weight slowly by my diet alone, but I’ve GOT to start some exercise regimen that pushes me past that point on the scale before I lose my momentum and fall back into bad habits. I feel like the walking would help speed up my weight loss a little, but walking in the house is not really giving me a “sweat” workout. I got laid off from …

Hi all. In October I will be 3 years post op. I have maintained my weight loss of 100 pounds, and still faithfully weigh my food when eating at home. I NEVER go above 4oz. When we go out occassionally (but not to often) I eyeball, and pay close attention to when that full feeling starts and promptly stop eating. I religiously take my B12, woman’s multivitamin, and Biotin 10,000 every day. In the past 3 years, I could count on one hand the amount of times I’ve missed my pills. I knew going into this that it was extremely important to take these as other serious issues could arise if I didn’t. Sadly, I haven’t stayed current on getting my blood checked annually. That’s…

  39. My wife took out a box of large shirts she had tucked away without my knowledge. This was a few months age & I didn’t have a prayer of fitting into them. Today I tried one on & it’s comfortable. This is amazing because I’ve felt like the last couple of months my numbers have been moving so slowly. I guess when your measurements change significantly it’s another victory! The scale wasn’t doing it but this makes the scale matter all the less. Today I weighed in at my dietitian appointment and I weigh 252. Puts me at 103 pounds I believe.

Hi everyone, I had VSG on July 6th and I've felt sick ever since. I also had my gallbladder removed and hiatal hernia repair, as well as scar tissue removed from when I had the lap band (the band was removed in Feb. I stay nauseated. I don't have an appetite but I know I have to eat something, and when I do eat I just get extremely nauseated. I follow the doctors orders on what to eat at the different stages but it doesn't seem to matter. I'm not getting my fluids or protein in that they want cause I stay sick. It's very frustrating. I really hope it's just part of the healing process but right now I'm just miserable. Did anyone else have this problem?? …

I was just curious what are the symptoms of sleeve leaks? My doctor doens’t do the swallow test anymore....found it to be unnecessary. He’s good at what he does, but I want to know what to possibly look for in case I do develop one. I want to catch it early instead of having something that keeps me in the hospital for weeks at a time. Thank you in advance.

Stage 4 foods include pureed soup, tomato juice, blended soft fruits, applesauce, ground chia and flax seeds, cottage cheese - the added variety is so welcome. 4. Cravings continue for bread and sweet carbs. Current dilemma is I don't feel full - ever. Should I stop expecting to feel full? Is that a sensation I need to forget about? I wonder if I'm eating too slow. Can anyone comment?

It's been a rough week. On Tuesday, the billing department at the hospital told me I'd have to pay $3k instead of $600 on the day of surgery. My husband managed to work it out. They were trying to bill my surgery as a cosmetic procedure. On Wednesday, my boss got up in my grill for asking for time off during a busy portion of the year, even though she approved me to be off a month ago (and I haven't asked for extended time off in 4 years. I never even take vacation). She almost asked me to reschedule, but I was able to find coverage and will come back from leave early. I work from home, so I think this will be OK. On Thursday night, I ended up in the ER wi…

  49. Hello fellow sleevers, I am exactly one week post op and the fluid struggle is real! I am supposed to transition to 2 tbsp of soft food but it’s so hard getting enough fluids in plus 3 protein shakes (yes I know shake amounts count as fluids) I’m just not there yet! I knew the first few weeks would be hard. I do NOT regret this in any way, but I wanted to bellyache (haha pun) a little. Feeling weak and dehydrated which is shocking for me and if you knew me you’d be shocked I was saying that!! I know this gets better! In the meantime (to the tune in Finding Nemo of just keep swimming) ~~~~~~~ Just Keep Sipping~~~~~~~~!!!! Hope everyone is doing well!
