Not losing anymore

Hi!!

I'm new here as I was recommended to get involved in gastric sleeve support group. I'm wondering if anyone is in my same boat.

I had surgery March 31 2017. I have lost 90 pounds and no where near my goal weight. I feel as though people who have had the surgery by a year are way past me. Or they have aleat made it some what close to their goal.

I'm stuck and I actually gained weight as I maintained 207 for a few months until recently. I do everything possible to lose the rest,but my knees are bad,so I only walk.

I admit, I eat whatever my parents which most of the time isn't healthy, but I only eat a little because I never get a full feeling so I eat little quantities but I'm gaining weight?.

My mother got vsg almost a decade ago and maintained her weight fot a while but gained weight back and eats poorly as well.

Is my sleeve stretched? I will have to do the bypass or am I not working hard enough? Or am I being too hard on myself? Or is it that my goal weight is too extreme?

I don't want to get back to my starting weight but it seems like that is becoming extremely likely.

I haven't had the surgery but I will say this to you 1st positive thinking is imperative, 2nd remember where you were and how much you disliked it and maybe put up some pictures to remind yourself how much you don't want to be there again, 3rd you have done a great job at losing 90 lbs, 4th STOP now with the eating poorly and get back to maybe the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd week post op eating and attempt to maybe take a walk when the parents are eating poorly, also you can prep your meals a day a head and after your walk and they've eaten you can have your dinner that you prepped. 5th Last but not least quit beating up on yourself remember the sleeve is just a tool you had to be doing something to lose that 90 pounds ok. Now Good luck to you my BPal and you got this remember that and repeat it to yourself when you get up in the mornings that your worth getting to your goal and loving yourself into the best you, you can be. Night

In the "honeymoon period" sleevers still lose weight even while not eating a great diet. But when the post sleeve honeymoon period is over you will tend to stall and even start regaining of you continue to make poor food choices. You said the food you are eating with your parents is bad. How bad is it? Start tracking your food and calories each day to figure out how many calories you are eating, as the current total must be more than what your body needs to maintain its current weight.

If you are eating more than 1200 calories (counting everything, including drinks) then it's likely too much, especially while you still have more to lose. I'm currently having 800-1000 calories at 3 months post op, and will move to 1200 calories when close to goal weight.

Figure out how much Protein you are getting each day. Not getting enough protein can result in losing muscle and organ mass which reduces you basal metabolic rate (the amount of calories your body burns just to function day to day). My target is minimum 75g protein. Most people's target is at least 60g.

Don't worry if you have health problems limiting physical activity. A diet that creates a calorie deficit requiring your body to burn fat to function day to day is key to making your sleeve tool work for you.

Thanks for the support. I did the phototransformation you mentioned and it made me realize I did lose a lot. I will definitely try going back to eating how it was post-op and then prepping my meals thereafter. Thank you so much!

Hi!

I'm not sure how many calories I eat which I know I have to get back to counting. Although I'm pretty sure I get protein as they cook a lot of meat, a majority of the time it's fried ( unless I cook it myself which I have been doing recently). Again, I will have to get back to counting protein as well. I will try to get back to eating 800-1000 calories. I think my problem is not counting like I was doing a few months ago. This has put things into perspective. Thanks so much for the support!

I think you know where the problems lie. You need to recommit to the process so you don't end up like your mother. It's not too late, you haven't started allover. You can refocus and get back to the basics.

1. Eat your lean Protein first, then if room, have non-starchy veggies.

2. Don't eat or drink for 30 mins before and after a meal.

3. Make sure you are drinking calorie free liquids. 64oz per day.

4. Exercising, walking is good, for 30 minutes per day.

5. Cut out any added sugars that have slipped back in.

6. Track all food that you put in your mouth.

7. Perhaps, meet with your former NUT or see a new one.

8. Have a conversation with your family about your commitment to eating healthy again.

I think you know what to do. Its just a matter of getting back with the program. Good luck dear, I hope you recommit and make your goal.

I'm so happy to hear that and if you fall off one day just get back up don't stay down there just get back up and remember your worth it don't give up on YOU!

Sorry for answering so late. Thanks for the feedback! I have started doing all these things and lost 10 pounds so far.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

      Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

      Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
