My surgery is on August 6, and I am on the liquid diet. I just got a call from the hospital that they are expecting my entire deductible to be paid upon arrival. I have a separate bariatric deductible of $3k that covers everything above the $3k for surgery. I had to point out this deductible to them weeks ago, because they were quoting me all sorts of outrageous prices for the surgery. When I pointed it out to them, they said, "OK, so you would pay $3k, but the day of surgery, you could just pay a percentage of that. Like, around $600." So that's what I was planning to do when I went in on Monday. I've budgeted $600, not $3k all at once. I may not end up getting…

So my packet states everything should be pureed but i've talked to others and as long as everything moist and chewed thoroughly I should muster through this stage. I've cooked 90% lean gr beef in unsalted beef broth first, mostly drained then added sloppy joe sauce which is not that awful in the calorie/sodium intake. Believe it or not low fat cottage cheese has more sodium. I also made canned chicken salad (in its own water) and mixed with health heart brand low fat mayo. Beef and the canned chicken were in packet. My new stomach aka STAN (yes i've named him) tolerated the beef but i could only eat a few small spoonfuls and as instructed chewed the hell out of it be…

I was told that I would have to sip my water after sleeve surgery, at least 64 ounces a day. Is sipping water just a temporary thing, or something you have to do from now on? I drink decaf coffee, how long does it take to drink a cup of coffee after you have a sleeve? I drink a lot of water, this sipping thing has got me wondering. Thanks very much.

Had my sleeve surgery on Friday, July 27. Had a rough time in recovery with nausea. Took 12 hours for the staff to get my nausea under control. But once it was, I rapidly improved. Was able to walk a bunch and ended getting to go home Saturday around 4pm. I have one incision (the large one that everyone complains about where they removed my stomach through) that is really my only pain now. It’s also created a large divot in my belly, we believe because they attached my stomach to that wall to prevent contortions. Liquids have been going down easy. I was very worried about this, but it has been easy to feel when I’m getting close to too much and stop. The biggest h…

Seriously thinking of canceling rny . My surgeons office said that I could get complication insurance when I first was quoted fees. I got a call friday saying that they made a mistake and said revisions were not eligible. If any major complications that occur will be out of my pocket. This could ruin me financially.

So, how often do you guys weigh yourself? I dropped weight post op everyday until today - I actually weighed a pound heavier. (I'm on post op Day 6) How can that be when I am on a liquid diet? I figure my stomach is still trying to adjust to what happened. But I am honestly freaking out about it. Has anyone else experienced this?

During my 6 month post op visit with the surgeon, she discussed my posture and needing to bring my shoulders back, stand taller, etc. Not an easy thing to do as I was so used to the weight pulling me down. Anyone else experience this, if so, what did you do to help your posture?

  14. Started by Lyngolean,

I am about 3.5 months post op and feeling great now that I am close to 75 pounds down from my starting weight. Now that I am further out from surgery and weight loss has slowed down a bit, I have found that it is easy for me to want to "coast" and not eat according to plan every day. I'm wondering what others have done to help themselves stay on track with following their nutritionist's eating advice. One thing that has helped me is to create smaller goals. For example, I set a goal of getting to an 80 pound weight loss by my 4 month post op date. This helps me stay motivated to reach smaller milestones. Anyone else have experience with this that has worked for them?

  15. Hi all, My nutritionist suggested I get some of these supplements to help with getting enough protein and fibre. In Canada they are carried by a company called Caring Solutions - https://www.caringsolutions.ca/ . I got some samples from them - the liquacel comes in several flavours and each serving has 16 grams of protein. The fibercel has 5 grams of fibre in each serving. I was just wondering if anyone is using them and what you think?

  16. Okay so I have hit another 2 week plateau so I asked my trainer to take my measurements. I get too hung up on what the scale says and it really messes with my head. The measurements really help me keep all my hard work in perspective. I surely have am proud of this.

wanted to know your experience with hair loss after surgery. the surgery itself doesn't scare me one bit. not even my new life style change i have coming. only the hair loss part..... I have very thin hair as it is and can't imagine how the loss will go. my friend loss her hair around the front hairline and looked like chunks were missing. of course it's grown back since. she's two years out since her surgery. please share.

Hey all...I am 7 weeks post op and stuck! Scale has not moved in 2 weeks and I am measuring everything and keeping a food log. I hit protein goal almost everyday. Still doing a Premier Protein shake and an Oikos Greek daily. Calories never above 600. Does anyone have any advice to help jump start my weight loss/beat this stall?? SW-314 CW-264 GW-160

So I am almost 8 weeks post op and have been doing great! I’ve lost 36 pounds and I exercise at least 6 days a week and eat mostly protein and try to eat less than 30 carbs a day. But today has been rough. All I want is cereal. Like fruity pebbles cereal. And I’ve been hungry today like no other!!!!! And because of all this I feel big and like I’m sabotaging my hard work! I would even eat the fruity pebbles in almond milk if it would help! I guess I am just looking for reassurance from my sleeve family that I’m just have one of those days and it too shall pass ?

Hey everyone, So I’m 6 days post op and have been feeling pretty good since day 4. Im on my liquid phase and had some sugar free popsicles that were really helping, so my friend went to the store to get me more popsicles. Come to find out they aren’t sugar free but I already ate like 6-7 of them over the past few days. Do y’all think it’s going to cause a problem?

  22. Hey all! Looking forward to starting this journey in two weeks. I am wondering what it is like for those of you who are now “thin” or who have lost the weight? Do you lead a pretty normal lifestyle? Do you still obsess about nutrition and exercise?

  23. Hi, I’m about 4 1/2 weeks post op and I still haven’t started taking my multivitamin. I’m only taking calcium and D3. I tried to take my multivitamin but I kept vomiting it right back up. It sucks bc I know I need to take it AND I had one that was once a day with iron so I didn’t have to take 8 different pills per day! Is there ANYTHING out there that’s a chewable one a day that meets our requirements and includes iron??? Thanks so much for any advice!

So I just started stage 2 (full liquids) I was told to try watered down grits or oatmeal. I’ve tried both today. The thing is when I take a bite as soon as it hits my stomach it feels like my stomach “grumbles” which hurts. I eat very slow and very small bites. Anyone else exerpierenced this? Does it go away?

Hi- Going on four weeks, but had an issue this weekend. I am rarely hungry, but was surrounded by food this weekend that was bad and found myself eating things I should not have, i.e.- pop tart, pretzels. I am a little worried. When I have a routine, I am good. But when I don't, I am a little worried. Any tips on getting over the mental component? I am making good progress and I do not want to derail it. Any tips appreciated.

Ok I had my sleeve and hiatal hernia repair done 2 weeks ago. Everything has been going good, but yesterday I started to have stabbing pain in the middle of my chest. I know this is related to the hernia, but is that normal so far out of surgery? And has anyone else experienced this? I hadn't had any pain in my chest like this until yesterday. The pain comes and goes, occurs sometimes when I drink, sometimes after, and sometimes just out of the blue. How long does this last? What is the average healing time for a hiatal hernia repair? I have my follow up appointment with my surgeon on Thursday and plan on asking all these questions and more but this pain is no joke! Any i…

Hi everyone! Long story short ... got lap band 10 years ago and did okay but not crazy great. I went from a size 16 to 8. In April 2016 I got a mommy make over and in December 2016 started gaining weight thanks to menopause. If I hadn’t been overweight before and stressed about it I would have probably only gained 20 pounds but I freaked out causing my hormones to go crazy. So now I am a size 16 again and going in for a revision. I worked my ass off to get to a size 8 but those who knew I had lap-band tend to forget all those nights I spent at the YMCA instead of happy hour and think the band did all the work so this time I don’t want to tell anyone. My brother an…

  31. I'll kick this off. I had a pair of scales a few years back that told me my body fat was 62%, I doubt it was accurate but you never know. I started this process 2 years ago and it took that long for me to get accepted here on the NHS. My body fat percentage just before my op was 43%. I have lost 54lb (almost 4 stone in the uk) and my body fat is now 40.2. It can only get better from here on in!

  32. I am going to purchase a months worth of PURE PROTEIN shakes in the can from Amazon and wanted to find out from you guys what your opinion is on them. Are they a complete protein? Do they have amino acids in them? They have 35 grams of protein per can. I have tried them before and they taste very good. Thanks.

I will be 2 months one week post op next week. I am still having difficulty eating meat unless its blended into soup. Chicken seems to be the hardest for me and always makes me feel nauseous. the only meat I seem to be able to handle is a soft meat ball made of ground beef. I tried tuna and its ok but I don't really love it. Shrimp is OK too if you count seafood as 'meat' At what stage in your gastric sleeve post op were you able to eat meat generally? Sometimes I wonder if I am 'normal' in this regard

Hey guys having surgery in August, looking for some interesting pureed ideas.

  35. So I had my surgery a little over a week ago everything is going good for me but my spouse had surgery on Tuesday and when cleared yesterday to sip liquids was able to get in some water but not much before dry heaving. Very nauseous all day, dinner came tried a sip of everything and ending spiting up the warm decaf tea. So my spouse had to stay in the hospital and this morning threw up again! I know it’s the nausea but how can they get rid of it since they are already giving zofran and it’s not helping! Any one else have this problem? How long did it last?

  36. Hi all. Week 2. I am still on full liquids but my doctor said I could try egg whites. Anyone find that the whites are tolerated better?

Hi, my name is April I'm 40 from Brooklyn, NY and I'm currently going thru the steps of pre op for my gastric sleeve surgery. I do not have a date yet as I am a new patient. My niece lost 80 pounds and she looks great. I'm doing for health reasons. I'm right now doing a sleep study #2 (CPAP) if I don't go thru it I can't have the surgery and my apnea is moderate. Does anyone have sleep apnea and is going thru the same process as I am. Other then that I look forward of hearing some great experiences.

Hi Everyone. I am new to the site. I am having my sleeve done tomorrow morning, along with removal of gallbladder and hiatal hernia repair. I am nervous only about the post op discomfort and how severe the hiatal hernia is and if the repair is complex. I am not nervous about the sleeve or the gallbladder removal. Is that strange? Can anyone share their discomfort/advice regarding post op discomfort, what to expect and what helps? Thanks!

Hi all-I was sleeved on July 10th and am now eating puréed foods. I have a list of no nos from my surgeon and one is oatmeal. Does anyone know why?

  50. Started by courtb86 ,

Has anyone gotten pregnant after the sleeve? I’m 10 weeks and having bad food aversions and nausea. Idk how I’m going to gain weight when I barely ate before pregnancy and now even less with pregnancy because nothing looks appetizing and I’m sick half the time (not throwing up just nausea). I’m just nervous I won’t be able to eat enough to gain the recommended weight for pregnancy. Sigh! ?
