Just wanted to introduce myself and begin my journey with you. I am 47 years old. I'm scheduled for the VGS August 23, 2018 and I can't wait. I suffer from arthritis, hip trouble, knee pain and apparently I snore my family out of the house. I have been researching, reading everything the internet provides & watching YouTube videos. I look forward to getting my life back. To not have to endure the pain & wake up with energy wanting to exercise. I've been overweight now going on 13 years. Have been on every diet since only to be successful to a certain point and then back to the same old routine. When I turned 45 my whole body went sideways. Within a few months, I …

I'm so excited I got a date and to me it was super fast seen doctor Tuesday the 24th June and schedule for September 7th. I'm sure nerves will kick in as I get closer but happy to have a date it now feels official. Praying that my PCP give me the approval without issue and that all my testing and things associated with the Surgery come back timely without issues that there be a none interrupted surgery date, that the surgeon be in good spirits that day, that there are no issues during surgery and that I be complication free and in the least amount of pain and that I heal properly and quickly without all the sickness "Lord", these are my prayers. In Jesus name!

I have to do 4 weeks of pre-op. I had to buy the food from my surgeons office. It is DISGUSTING! It’s literally packets of food and you add water to them. Listen I can do any diet for the most part bc I’ve done them before.. but this watered down nasty food is making feel starved, angry and emotional.... this is only day 2. I don’t want to hear that I’m mentally not ready for surgery bc I am. But I’ve heard of other people having different diets. Is anyone allowed to have premiere protein shakes??? What other diets do your doctors have you on to shrink your liver???

Prefacing this with my past experiences. When I had my children I had a C-Section, and 5 weeks later I had an emergency laparoscopic gallbladder removal. I managed my recoveries fairly well and was able to care for two infants with little or no help on about 3 hours sleep. Of course, I was 20+ years younger. I work from home, no lifting required. I assume I might be able to at least do a few hours starting let's say day 4? My surgeon states plan for a week, but how quickly you return to work seems to have a relative relation to how much you love what you do. Business owners he stated usually go back as soon as they are out of the hospital. I'm sure this was a …

  10. I was just sleeved monday morning at 8am. i have nit been able to drink many liquids because of the pain in the center of my abdomen. Above my navel. It feels right where my intestines would start after my new stomach ends. it is like painful pressure/blockage feeling as the liquid passes through, then a bunch of popping bubbles, then an occasional burp. is this just gas? Is this common?

  11. Had surgery today all went well. Already walked and blew in my new toy. Pain not so bad more when I sit up to go walking etc. Sipping has gone well, try to have an ice chip but really got nauseated but did not throw up. So I got to the hospital the nurse that prepping me weight me.in and said you don't weight that much. After 8 days of liquid down to 218 started with my jitters of backing out thank God for my husband honey you are doing it for your overall health. Then again when doing paper work and more prepping she said you really don't need this surgery my husband gave the look. Again got nervous and my husband said to me and the nurse you are doing this for her…

I was scheduled for my sleeve on July 30th. At my pre-op I was informed that I won’t get the sleeve after all. Because of my hernia, the doctor is doing a Nissen Fundoplication and surgery is delayed until Aug 8th. Dr says I will still lose weight but I’m worried about losing the weight and keeping it off. Anybody have experience with this procedure?

Up to this point the only thing that has made me nauseous was my pain meds in the beginning. All of a sudden today I feel so sick to my stomach. I couldn't get down my protein shake and the thought of eating makes me want to throw up and I'm pretty sure I will if I do eat. Has anyone else experienced this out of the blue? Is t his normal or should I call the doctor?

My summary after 1 week: 1. Room temp and warm fluids tolerated best. 2. New stomach did lots of "growling" but rejected nothing. 3. Nausea meds gave me a headache and made me dizzy. 4. Hunger still lives on! Surprised -- didn't expect that at all! 5. Cravings for a graham cracker on day 5, then club crackers on day 6. 6. Advice? Don't try to rush things - slow and steady gets you there. Stay ahead of hunger with proteins. 7. Regrets? Wish I had added 1 tsp Benefiber to each protein drink to avoid constipation. 8. I need to do something with this weight!!! I have been trying to diet but I'm limited on my exercise due to my leg. About 5 years ago I was attacked by 2 dogs so a lot of nerve damage. At this time I have no Insurance so I hear a lot of people go to Mexico to get this done. I'm guessing because it is cheaper? If I got this weight off I wouldn't be in so much pain. If I decide to do it in mexico i will be doing it alone has anyone done that. What do i expect after words? I'm wanting to get the sleeve! …

  23. So I had my appointment and talked to my doctor as well. My primary did many tests and what came up was very interesting so my pancreas is producing 3X as much insulin than needed. Meaning there is or was insulin resistance. I have the discoloration of the skin and other symptoms, sooooo… meaning all the extra is turning into fat instead of energy. Diet and exercise will NOT be enough to loose weight, as confirmed by my doctor. She has me on metformin to help regulate the production and it may help me loose some weight but the surgery is a good idea and my doctor is okay with it. Even though I thought about the surgery for over a year this confirmed that I will always hav…

It hurts a little sometimes a little bit more going down in my chest area. Trying to incorporate that applesauce and plain yogurt since last night. Hope all is well for everyone on this journey. My sisters were very supportive of me and are proud of my weight loss, but as I continue, they now seem to want to feed me. Luckily I'm not near them every day. I think they are used to me being the fat sister and now I'm the same weight and still losing is making them uncomfortable. They kept trying to get me to eat and have a drink with them. I took the glass of wine and pretended to sip just to shut them up. Later, I poured it out and they didn't even notice. This is my journey and I am worth it. I keep telling myself, food is fuel. I am not going to sabotage myself.

But yesterday I pushed up the week a day and had very liquidy cream of potato soup - no potato chunks, i took my kids to applebees and had their cream soup. i ate half, ate the other half 2-3 hours later. while this wasnt the healthiest option, i tolerated it. Today, i ate won ton soup broth and chewed the hell out of the noodle it was basically massacred lol. I tolerated that as well. I had an epiphany this afternoon. Grazing leads to physical hunger for me. So today I went out to lunch, had my lean protein and was full. As we are sitting there chatting, I was nibbling on shredded carrots and tiny slices of cucumber. I was happy with myself for choosing a healthy meal. As I was driving home, I realized I was hungry, physically hungry. I thought back to other times I had grazed, cocktail party with appetizers, Japanese Omakase dinners, Tapas style meals etc.. Every time after those I was ravenously hungry. They must trigger me in some way to make my stomach want to keep getting filled. I won't be able to avoid these situations ent…

I am finding myself feeling bad about the clothes I can't or won't be able to wear anymore... I feel kind of sad about a few pieces I really like, and I'm thinking about how much all the clothes cost when I bought them and how much it will cost to replace them. I know this is a good problem to have, but I also know these weird thoughts contributed to my regaining weight I lost in the past. Has anyone else experienced this? How have you dealt with it? Thanks for any advice!

Hi all! I am in the pre op phase for vsg. I had my blood work and EKG done a couple weeks ago and was told that my EKG was "abnormal" so I was referred to a cardiologist for clearance. I have to be honest I am freaking out. When someone says your heart is abnormal that isn't the best news. I would consider myself to have white coat syndrome. When I enter the hospital my heart pounds and I get severe anxiety. I am wondering if this may have thrown the test off. I have never had any symptoms of heart issues I don't think. Just need someone to talk to, maybe someone has had a similar experience and can help ease my mind. I am seeing a cardiologi…

  38. So I screwed up yesterday and had a few bites of things I shouldn't have. Yes I know it was wrong and I don't intend to do it again. About 24 hours ago I sampled some of the "fair food" my husband and sons brought home -- a couple of bites of funnel cake and a couple bites of melted cheese from on top of a slice of pizza. I didn't seem to suffer any ill effects from it last evening, but all day today I have been experiencing nausea and a stomach ache on the front left side of belly. My question is: Do you think these symptoms have been caused by those illegal foods I ate around 5pm yesterday? My nausea began around 8am today and my bellyache has been the worst …

I am only in the approval phase for VSG. I hope to have surgery in Dec. I know I will have to tell my supervisor, HR, and coworkers something since I plan on taking 2 weeks off. I have been going back and forth about tell the truth, only telling the truth to my supervisor and HR, and then just tell everyone a lie, like I am having my gallbladder out. I've been at my job for only 5 months, and I know my supervisor and some coworkers will be judgmental. I defiantly won't say anything until closer to time though. How did you handle this?

However it seemed to melt away the stress like food used to do for me. Now it's all I can think about or want whenever I feel stressed. I've caved once and did a couple shots. I did call my Dr and he set me up for a scope just in case and an appointment with the social worker. Has anyone else here struggled with that?
