hi everyone! I’m new here...just had my sleeve surgery on Monday August 6. I realize it’s only August 10th, but I’m struggling getting my protein of 60 grams in each day and same with 64 oz of fluid. I know it’s supposed to be gradual, but does anyone know how gradual? I hear about hair loss, etc. and I don’t want to get into any of those situations. It’s like I have to push water down to get even near the required ounces and I hav eprotein for my water, but not 60 grams. Just wondering if anyone can share some of their experiences early on like this to help. Thanks!

I read that with gastric bypass your matabolism remains normal or returns to normal after a year, unlike with the biggest loser people who's matabolisms stayed damaged even after regaining the weight. How about sleeve? Several years in is your matabolism normal?

So I will be sleeved Aug 20th. Two weeks from now. I’m having issues though talking about it with people who I’m not really close to. I’m not ready to tell everyone I’m having weight loss surgery. I don’t want their opinions or reactions yet. People who ask questions at work, relatives who are close but not close-close, neighbors, people want to know why I’m eating like that, why I’m not eating at the family reunion, why I’m taking time off work etc etc. but I’m not ready for their opinions or reactions. I’m a very private person. Anyone else else deal with this? Did you just stick with saying none of our business? Or did you make up a fake procedure …

I am currently pre-op. I've been on this site for a while, and have noticed that a lot of people have had to have hernia repair. Just wondering, how common is this? Did you know you had a hernia before going in to surgery? Or did you pretty much wake up from anesthesia and the doc was like of yeah by the way...kind of thing?

I had my initial visit for the sleeve. Have to have the normal tests done. I don’t need to lose a certain amount before the surgery but was instructed what I should lose. I have lost 8 pounds in 4 days. Has any one thought I will just do the diet plan and be ok and not surgery and how did it go? Do you plateau? Thanks

Hi All, I'm new to this support site and wanted to start a new thread for those of us still a few weeks out from surgery. What's everyone doing to prepare mentally, physically, emotionally? My tentative date for surgery, assuming Cigna approves, is Oct. 2. It feels like it's so far away but I'm still trying to prepare now. How long does everyone plan to take off work? Have you told anyone besides spouse/significant other? Only my husband knows because the rest of my family is too judgmental and I'm doing it for me not them. I would love to hear your thoughts!

I hope someone can help me while I wait to see my doctor tomorrow. I woke up on Saturday with right side flank pain. Pain level at 10/10. I waited a bit but then decided to go to the ER. I explained to them that I was 2 months post op and down about 30lbs. They did blood work and gave me a CT scan. Everything looked normal so they said it could either be early stages of kidney stone, appendicitis or a muscle strain. Because the CT scan didn’t show anything they sent me home with muscle relaxers and lidocaine pain patch. The medication made me sleep for these past two days but I’m still in extreme pain. I had my surgery in Mexico so my surgical team is not available to me.…

I had to go to another building for work today. I’ve been to this other office before; the last time was right before surgery. Well, the office chairs that they have there are more narrow than they are at my office, and in the past it’s been an issue. The arms of the chair would dig into my hips, which made sitting very uncomfortable. Well, today I sat in one of those chairs, and there was no digging! I was able to sit very comfortably! Yay!

Hello everyone. I started my journey 4 years ago going on 5 in Dec at the time I weighed 278 within one year I was down to 144. I did great. I worked out 7 times a day. I watched and kept a diary of everything I ate. I seriously took care of my new pouch lol. I never felt restricted on my foods because I learned to cook healthier and it was good food. Well I started dating my husband 3yrs ago and we would party a lot and I started to eat late on the weekends so I gained 10lbs but I was fine I did not feel bad. Well a year ago I had my first baby and I only gained 30lbs but by the time I left the hospital (C-section so I stayed 3 days) I was already my pre baby weight so t…

Hey guys, I've been away for a while now but I'm back! Hope everyone is doing well. I've come to terms with everything I have to change in my life in order to succeed in this life changing process. I've been inspired by all of you on here and many Youtubers as well. My biggest concern is my past eating disorder. Before I had BED (Binge Eating Disorder) I went through a really rough time battling anorexia in which I had to go to a treatment center for all women in North Carolina. I'm so excited for VSG but at the same time I'm so so so nervous that I'm going to fall back into my habits I had when I was battling anorexia. The liquid fast, small almost nothing amounts o…

I had a band removed in June and was told to wait 6 months before any WLS because of an erosion. Doctor says a risk of a leak for me with VSG is 30-50% and instead recommends bypass. I won't do a bypass for a number of different reasons. I've read lots of feedback from various folks with leaks (thanks all) but wondering specifically if: 1) if you heard odds like I got, you would still do the VSG? 2) for those who had leaks whether you were able to go back to work while healing? 3) how long the leak related hospitalization was? 4) any idea what the total cost of treatment was (WLS nor complications are covered by my insurance)? 5) any advice, words of wisdom?…

Just curious on how long some ya'lls process was from first surgeon/doctor consult to surgery date. I feel really lucky on how fast everything has gone for me (mainly due to the minimum requirements from my insurance). Had my very first surgeon consult on June 27th, insurnace approved July 25th, and surgery scheduled for Aug 20th! My nerves were bad waiting just the one month...lol. How did ya'll do??

Hi there - I am on my six month pre-op journey, planning to get the gastric sleeve. I have a two-year old and sometimes feel so guilty about putting myself at risk through surgery. I'll think about how it's elective, what if something goes wrong, what if I die on the table, etc. etc....and then my daughter will be without a mother. My mom feeds into this guilt, telling me surgery is the wrong thing to do. I need to be strong and make the best decision for me. I understand that I will be healthier overall post-sleeve, but does/did anyone else struggle with this kind of pre-surgery guilt? As a parent, specifically? How do you push past this and not let guilt be a driving fo…

Had an awesome NSV last week. Went on my first airplane since last year and did not have the issues I normally would have. Seatbelt did not have to be at its biggest, my body was not hanging over each side. The tray table did not touch my stomach. I was comfortable on the 2 5 hour legs of the trip. It was fabulous! Has anyone made pork loin in the oven or crock pot? I used to make it before my surgery and would like to incorporate it back into my diet. I guess even any meat would satisfy my hunger for meat. Anyone have any thoughts about me eating meat at 3 months post op. Thanks.

It's lengthy, but I hope this helps someone. Hi everyone, I am 11 days post op and wanted to share my complete experience in hopes of helping others since I couldn't find much info on Dr. Perez or the single incision gastric sleeve (SILS). SILS is where they only make one incision through your belly button and use a port to do the surgery. Less scarring and better recovery. I started at 191 lbs and a BMI of 35. My doctor was Dr. Hector Perez, hospital was Oasis of Hope in Tijuana Mexico. I did as much research as I could, even verifying licenses, board certifications and checking for malpractice claims. The doctor had great reviews, as did the hospital. I booked t…

I’m just over 8 months post op. And I think I’ve found one of “those” foods you react to funny no matter how far out you are. For me, it’s ground beef! I can usually get 3 oz of lean ground beef in before I start hot flashing and sweating! It’s intense. Lasts about 15 minutes. Anyone have a reaction like this to any other foods? I’m just glad there are other protein sources! ?

Good morning everybody I have a tentative date for the end of September so it's coming up pretty quick. I have some questions about vitamins. I been told that I will have to get the chewable. Vitamins. Although after doing some research I have seen others just crush or pulverize they're normal vitamins and take them that way. How long will I have to be on chewable or crushed vitamins? I am on a very limited fixed income so purchasing specialty chewable vitamins is really cost prohibitive for me. What are people's experience with post-surgery vitamins? Also how long before I can take my vitamins in the normal way. Thank you

I started a new position and feel like it's no one else's business to know about what I'm dealing with. I've told a couple of people (close friends and family) pre-op. Obviously my Boss Nd HR director needed to know but I'm just wondering the ways in which you either keep some privacy or disclose to others that you've had the surgery. My weight has always been a focal point of discussion. Every "fat person" feels as though we have an instant connection and bond over being heavy - and "skinny" people always want to talk about the "diets" that helped them. Any reccomondations about how to change the focal point of body changes?

Hi All :: First post! July 11th Sleeve Gastrectomy, day 12, so still in the liquid diet phase. I've been having some symptoms post "eating"... specifically, uh... shall we say, "liquid fecal urgency" about 10-15 minutes after consuming broth and/or protein shakes. Is this "dumping syndrome"? I've read lots of clinical articles with fancy medical terminology, but they don't really describe what it FEELS like. I was hoping folks on this Board could provide some insight! Thanks :: Erik Da Viking

I literally don't want to eat sometimes because I get nauseous. I feel like I'm pregnant with no baby. Sometimes it's the smell, or I take two bites and I cannot eat anymore. I feel sick. I have been drinking Gatorade zero for the last 8 weeks, it makes me sick to think about it. The protein shakes same thing. THe vitamins make me want to gag. Although, I can eat some things, based on my recommended diet but uhhhh, it's rough. I don't overfill myself, small bites (sometimes) I do forget, takes practice. Here and there, I will eat faster by mistake....after eating one way for 40+ years, it takes a minute to get used too...ya know, I think I answered my own questions on t…

Today is my 5th day post op. I've been getting my recommended amount of protein from shakes (60g) along with 60 oz of water. After the 1st 24 hrs, I could have food from my funnel diet list. The only think I've had has been some bone broth and a small bite of tomato bisque. I didn't care for the tomato. Tonight my daughter made cauliflower white chedder soup and it was amazing. I ate tiny little bites and tomorrow I'm going to have it again and add some unflavored protein powder. Today, my incision pain is better but where the big incision is still hurts when I'm moving around a lot or sitting up too long. I really appreciate having this board and being a…
