  1. My boyfriend of 3 years and I have been on roller coaster diets our whole lives and have been unsuccessful. He wants to propose I want to accept but we both want to be healthy committed before committing to each other. We are going to Tiajauna Mexico Dec 12th to do a couples Gastric Sleeve and neither of us want to tell family or friends until the procedures are completed. We will be our own support systems until we feel the need to share. Mostly we don't want to worry our mothers and children ect but also because we just do not want to hear from the nah sayers. Of course I want to make an unbiased knowledgeable decision to do this so I welcome your input no matter what y…

Hi Everyone, I am a little over 3 months out! I'm doing really great, and have lost about 60 pounds (starting weight was 238 and currently at 175). Right now, I just need a bit of help/advice. I am a college student who commutes twice a week for classes, but my classes start at 8 AM and end at 7:30 PM. This leaves me having to pack snacks and lunches as I do not have time during the day to leave campus for food. I am wondering what people are taking for snacks and lunches to work/school that is both easy to take on the go and bariatric friendly. My main problem is that I don't have access to a fridge or microwave (so whatever I'm bringing has to stay in an insulated…

Today is my 6 month anniversary i started my journey at 300 lbs I’ve lost 119 pounds since weight loss surgery this is great if I would have known that this would change my life I would have done it years ago but for those of you who started this journey before me I have a question how do I stop? My first goal was 200 lbs then I thought might as well go down to 190 lbs since some friends warned me about the rebound after I got there I thought 185 is a good number but I didn’t want 1 pound less I even started minimizing cardio training and doing more weight training but I practice Jujutsu as well and to make this story short I’m now 181 lbs I feel healthy my cardiologist t…

I am curious to know what vitamins and supplements everyone is taking. I'm currently taking: Bariatric Advantage Ultra Multivitamin w. Iron (3 pills per day and I take them all at the same time) Celebrate Calcium PLUS 500 Chewable 1 tablet 3 times daily Natrol Biotin 5000mcg 1xdaily I will be adding Nature's Bounty Probiotic 10 as soon as I finish my antibiotics. I need to add a B complex (I think) and for sure B12. I saw somewhere not to start B12 until month 3. Has anyone else heard this? I also need to add 500-700 mg daily of Omega 3 Fatty Acids. I'm not sure which one to get there are so many different choices.

Which are the best vitamins to use? Surgery is in October but I want to get the vitamins now and try them out..... Anyone use an "all in one" and if so, what brand. Thanks

  9. I bought 3 months supply of vitamin patches before I had surgery and 2 months in and I am starting to use them. But I have been on Google looking up Vitamin Patches and what I am reading is starting to cause me to think they are not a reliable source of vitamin intake. So now I am quite concerned that I am not getting the vitamins I THINK I am. Have any of you been using vitamin patches for a long time? when you have gone for your check ups have you been deficient ? im thinking of going to get a vitamin B12 shot since reading all of this cautionary reports On another note the vitamin industry is not regulated and some of the reports I have read are that many of…

  11. Hi all. 15 days post op and not tolerating my chewables. Coming right up. Can someone recommend a good multi and good calcium with d that I can swallow? I don’t have trouble swallowing pills. Bought these chewables before surgery. Thanks.

  12. This weight loss journey has taught me a lot about myself. One of them being that my vice is savory, carb-y, oily snacks. We've got a pretty good Little India neighborhood over here and authentic Indian street snacks are aplenty. Top three things on my list I want to eat as soon as I could: onion pakora, potato & peas samosa, and bhelpuri. I've been dying for these even if just a small amount. My question is, based on your experience, when were you able to stomach foods with texture similar to things I mentioned above i.e. fried, carb-y, not to mention spicy? Also, how uncomfortable is it to eat something dry? I read in another thread that eating cereal could be …

my doctor prescribed to me liquid Zantac for 30 days 2x day. Yesterday morning woke up to empty bottle and being a holiday I couldn't get it. So today I called and and had it refilled. But when I woke up this morning I had bad Relux ( just guessing cause Ive never had). It was a burning feeling at the top of my throat downward. So around I picked up my prescription right away.... took it. And for some reason the burning is coming and going. I don't really feel like eating, just drinking water. Is this reflux or something else?????

I am just beginning week two of stage 3 post surgery (date was 7/31) and I've been doing pretty well but I am SO tired of sweet! My protein shakes are all sweet (save for chicken soup, which I have once a day). It seems like all of the recipes for soft foods on this stage are for more sweet things -- and that grosses me out. I have been eating a soft scrambled egg once a day, and made the ricotta bake, but does anyone else have good suggestions for what I can eat for the next week? I think tuna is okay, so I will add that. What about other meats? Have you done ok with ground turkey, chili, or other more substantial protein-based savory recipes? Please share!

I have my last appointment with my doctor on Friday. I'll have to make my final decision on which surgery. I've been pretty firm on wanting the sleeve (and not wanting the RNY). He said he'd be willing to do the sleeve, but that there is a chance my GERD would get worse and I'd have to have it revised into a RNY. Anyone have GERD before surgery and have a good result? Thanks!

Hi all. I am just getting started on this process. I’ve had my intake appointment, next week I meet with my gp for an official referral (I’ve already run it by her, and she is THRILLED for me), and on Friday I meet with my nutritionist for the first time. My new job has far better insurance than what we’ve had, and this is the first time surgery has been covered. My BMI is only 6 pounds away from being 50, the point where I won’t need any comorbidities. I have a sleep study coming down the pipeline (first appt. for that is next week). If I have sleep apnea, which is entirely possible, then that will be the comorbidity piece. If not, then I’ll need to gain 6 pounds, w…

  32. Hello everyone, I am new here and this is my first post. I have been looking all over the internet to find people who have had VSG with a starting BMI of under 40. My current BMI fluctuates between 34-36. I have about 70 lbs to lose to be considered "healthy weight." I am 30 years old, 5'7 and about 230 lbs. My goal weight would be 159. Has anyone else had this surgery with a starting BMI 35 or under? What was your experience like? I am going to seminar in about 10 days at my local bariatric surgeon's office and hope to learn more then. I am nervous about the idea of having major surgery and keep telling myself that maybe I just haven't tried hard enough in t…

  33. Well, I thank God that I have lost 50 lbs. I have gone down 3 pants sizes which makes me quite happy. I have just gotten back 4 pairs of pants from the tailor that were all taken in. I can do SO much more than what I used to be able to do at almost 300 lbs. I can mow the lawn, weed whack, I can stand up long periods, I can dance, I can bend down and tie shoes and wear enclosed shoes because my feet are not as swollen as they once were. I have far more energy and since my blood sugar is more under control I just feel a lot better in general. So here is the be honest with yourself part. I could be farther along in this process if I were stricter with calorie intake an…

  34. Hello ladies. I actually was on my period the day of my surgery but I had started to get sporadic periods prior to it - maybe every 2 or 3 months I would get my period. I am almost 49. I have not had a period since surgery which was 3 months 5 days ago whooooohooooo! Listen, I am not complaining. I am looking forward to menopause actually. But I just wondered if anyone in my age range experienced your period stopping after you had VSG. And if it stopped did it stop only for a certain period of time and then come back? Or did it go away and never come back ? The latter is what I am hoping for lol

Hi everyone and thanks for reading. I was wondering if anyone has had major knee surgery so soon after weight loss surgery. I had a TKR two years ago and I am in the process of getting a revision. I will need one of two possible revision surgeries. Hopefully I will only need a minor revision of replacing the plastic inserts with larger ones, but my surgeon is worried that the bottom half of my TKR has loosened from the bone. I wont know the revision that I need until I have a bone scan in 2 weeks, but I know it will be one of the two (both options mean opening the original scar, so they are not arthroscopic). I remember when I had my TKR, they wanted patients on a 2000 ca…

Here I grow again! I had surgery three years ago. It was a roller coaster ride, like everyone else. I did the pure liquid no carb pre op diet. I underwent surgery and after the initial feeling of having been through a bar fight, came out the other side ready to go! I was compliant with the whole thing, It was an amazing experience as the weight seemed to just melt off. . . until it didn't. I got down to about 250 pounds and hit a very long plateau. In response I went to the gym. . . A LOT. I managed to drop down to 210 pounds and decided to go in for skin removal surgery. Things went backwards from there. The plastic surgeon was HORRIBLE. He didn't pl…

Well, its almost here, I am scheduled for this coming Tuesday (9/4). Im scared and nervous as all get out but have faith that the surgeon, anethesists, and the team as a whole will take care of me. Even though this has been a lifestyle change so far, I'm looking at the end goal and that a healthier me is the goal in mind. That being said, one of my bigger fears is the waking up and not knowing what it is going to feel like. I've heard that some are fine and some go through a lot of pain, along with knowing 3/4 of my stomach is gone seems like it is going to be a very strange feeling. Hello. I have noticed that my massive stomach is not really shrinking at all. The weight seems to be coming off in other areas. My legs look thinner, my shoulders and chest look thinner but my stomach isnt moving. Has anyone else experienced similar issues. I know I carry most of my weight in my stomach so maybe that is why but that is the area I really need to shrink so I can fit into shirts better.

I almost feel like I'm doing too well...reading some of the things on here have me perplexed. I have to remind myself that everyone is different, everyone heals differently. I'm down 38 pounds. Whenever I get the thought in my mind that I am not progressing fast enough I remind myself that this is the most weight I have lost in ages. I continue to gain and lose the same five pounds, then it finally falls off. Then I plateau and gain/lose the next 5 pounds. I saw my bariatrician yesterday for my 4 month post op. She said that I should have lost 40 lbs by now. I have lost 20 since my surgery on 5/2/18. I know I need to exercise more and tighten up my diet by decreasing carbs and increasing protein. I am going to try increasing my calorie intake to 1000 cal as she suggested and pray that my weight loss picks up. I have only been losing a 1/2 to 1 lb every other week. I have a follow up with her in two months and want to be 20 lbs down by then. Feeling so low today! I was at 164.4 for the past three weeks today got on the scale and it said 169.5!!! I only had him 3 1/2 weeks ago but right now I'm feeling so discouraged. Like I'm living my biggest nightmare. I'm so scared I'm going to keep gaining an end up right where I was back in 2016. I plan so start a liquid diet and then once cleared by my ob I want to start swimming laps several times a week and add walking or volleyball to that. This is just horrible I'm reaching out to anyone who might have advice or has been where I currently am.

Hi everyone, I was sleeved on 8/2 and have been walking about a mile every day. Last week I joined a gym. I did Zumba twice last week and three times this week. Until now, I have had almost no desire to eat but yesterday I started to think I was a little hungry which is starting to scare me. I read that sleevers drop a lot of their weight in the first couple months so i was trying to maximize that but dont want to go too far. I wanted to ask your opinions on whether you think I am exercising too soon? Or maybe too much? When did you all start? And what did you start out doing?
