  1. Started by findingme65,

I've read about people having food rejection, bad taste buds and nausea and thankfully I haven't experienced it. Tomorrow will be my one month surgiversary and I'm 27 lbs down since surgery and 52 lbs total lost since first appt with surgeon. I feel like I'm not losing like I should and keep telling myself not to compare, but I can't help but wonder if my sleeve isn't small enough. I did, however, find myself ill the other day because I ate a small sweet potato too fast. Bad habit from eating lunch at my desk. I'm 53 and determined to be 150lbs on my 5'8 frame by my 54th birthday Oct 2019 ....I just need to slow down my anxiousness and let the process work. Only 110 to go…

Anyone notice less weight loss when consuming bars instead of shakes? Thinking about swapping out a quest bar instead of premier protein for some variety.

I am just wondering how long everyone had to continue to take Prilosec after surgery? I am still taking it and if I miss it I sure can tell. My reflux isn't horrible but it bothers me without meds.

  5. I was reading somewhere that someone's team insisted they use a sippy lid, to keep the foam off of their protein shakes. Sleevers: is this, in your experience, especially important? Couldn't I maybe just wait for a minute, for the foam to subside? I'm pretty invested in BlenderBottle as a brand--I have like four of them--but they definitely don't have sippy lids. Possibly relevant: I can't have Premier Protein premade shakes. My team is adamant that the only protein shakes we drink have some kind of protein isolate as their first ingredient. My team doesn't care if it's whey protein isolate or soy protein isolate, as long as it's an isolate. I'm probably pushing…

today Is my 7 days since surgery! Whoo. Yesterday I took a turn, for some reason yesterday i had the bottomless pit of liquid diet. no sipping involved. i seemed to have been able to drink normal ( pre surgery) I drank 22 oz of water in less than an hour. Couldn't get enough of water. drank protein shake no problem. broth. no problem. This morning ate greek yogurt, the whole container in 10 mins. normal bites. It's kinda freaking me out. why do you think this is? Oh and I don't feel full. I see my doctor later today and of course I will ask but kinda want know whats going on

Revision 8/14. Apparently my body was allergic to my lapband because I always had so much gunk in my throat and nose I could barely eat and when I did it came right back out. I’m 2 weeks post-op and I haven’t had sinus issues AT ALL..... until the Texas wind blew in and now I am throwing everything up. UGH!!!! And this is the week I could finally move to purée foods DANG IT!!

  10. Hey guys! Question? I had the sleeve done back in February 2014 with complications (leak, sepsis and hospitalised for 10 days.) ever since when I have bowl movements it’s mainly diarrhoea but not every time, I’ve always felt weak, sleepy and no energy just thought i was lazy lol. I eat healthy, exercise and I work 40+ hours for an EP. I ended up going to the ER last night due to chest pains and PVC’s they did some blood work and tests which came back saying I have iron deficiency anemia, dyspnea and hypokalemia. Has anyone here had this happen? I am currently at 175lbs and holding steady! Started at 260. but super happy size wise!

  11. Started by MrsLucas,

Hello All. I had my gastric sleeve surgery on June 16, 2016. I lost about 25lbs the first month and then suffered the loss of my father who was my best friend. After I lost my dad I ceased losing weight. I mourned the loss of him for quite some time...I still do really. For at least the first year after losing him I was in a horrible depressed state and didn't follow the rules of how I should eat post sleeve. I was eating until I felt sick, eating unhealthy foods and drinking (not alcohol) my calories. Finally after a year I figured out how to live day by day without him and started feeling happy and positive again. I started following the rules and bein…

  12. I began my journey back in December and now my gastric sleeve surgery date has finally arrived. Back when I first started out and was attending pre-op appointments, nutritionist visits, getting various tests and lab work done, and generally jumping through a lot of hoops, it seemed like I'd never get to this point. Now that I'm here it almost seems like it's all happening too fast. I've done a lot of reading on here and other bariatric surgery forums in the past few months, but I never felt a desire to participate until now. I'll be heading to the hospital soon and I'm feeling emotional. Everyone seems to be so different in how their recovery progresses and I have …

I’m scheduled for sleeve surgery on 10/9. I currently have a lap band so will have that removed at the same time. I did the 2 week liquid diet 7 years ago when I had the lap band operation. I tried the liquid diet again a few weeks ago and I went crazy! Any tips, advice on what protein shake to drink?

Hey crew!!! I am supposed to intake 73 grams of protein a day and I am failing miserably!!! I'm a little over 4 weeks out and the premier protein shakes are way too sweet now. I try to get all my water in but I get full soooooo fast. I don't know how I'm supposed to get that much protein when I can barely eat. Please tell me this will end soon.

  16. Started by alioolala ,

Hi all! I’m 5 weeks post op and struggling to get all the protein in without using the premier protein. Even with it I don’t meet goal everyday. I started logging my food today in MFP and I’ve attached a couple things if anyone has any advice i would appreciate it. Also, Is my fat too high? This is my first post but I’ve been around for some time and everyone’s insight has been so helpful over the last couple months!

Is it actually necessary to write down the type of food and the amount that you eat for each meal? Seems to me, all that would be necessary to keep track of would be, calories, carbs, proteins and your liquid intake. After all isn't that all that matters as long as you are eating healthy foods? I would appreciate your thoughts.

  18. So everything is good to go September 14th I have to see the surgeon who is going to do my surgery but I am requesting a December date because I have a lot of bucket list things I wanted to do and paid off for. Some of them are wine tastings and other things that fit into my career goals. I am also getting my own place after 2 years. I been living with crazy ass roommates, now I will be getting my own place. So I will be moving soon and need to pack so I won't have to worry about anything I'm hoping the apartment is a 1st floor or a elevator equipped apartment building. That way I will be attend to my cats and what not. I'm so blessed all I can say.

I’m starving already and the liquids aren’t really cutting it. There’s so much conflicting info around what to eat, even in my own stuff I got from the surgeon. Has anyone gone straight to soft foods? I’ve had yoghurt, chicken soup with bits and all went down okay.

I’m a teacher that is supposed to start September 4th. I just had surgery on the 23rd. I’m torn whether I should take a couple extra weeks off or suck it up and go in. I know it’s only day 3 but I feel like garbage and it’s hard to keep anything down. When did everyone go back to work?

  22. So, I was interested in how much I had lost month by month so I did a quick chart for myself. I am a slow loser compared to some but I am still very very happy at the weight I have lost so far. I would be very interested in how much otehrs have lost month by month here's mine so far Weight lost on preop - 19lbs 1 month after surgery - 22lbs 2 months after surgery - 9lbs 3 months after surgery - 8lbs 3.5 months after surgery - 5lbs 63 lbs lost so far and plenty more to lose!

So, I'm getting near my surgery. I don't have the exact date but it is in October. I have 2 fears: 1. Vomiting after surgery like I have the stomach flu.....I've had several surgeries in the past and I get REALLY sick after. I've been known to vomit for 8 or more hours after surgery. I've talked to my surgeon about this and he says there are some really good medications for nausea. I guess my biggest fear is bursting out the staple line. 2. Going through this life changing/saving surgery and NOT losing weight. I've been able to lose weight in the past but at about the 2 or 3 month mark it just stops...... Any and all comments are appreciated.

  24. I got a brochure that basically offers an anesthesiologist that will use "healing statements" during surgery. Did anybody else get that offer??

  25. So I am 6 days post op on full liquid diet. Wife gave me egg drop soup with a little shredded chicken and veggie and it has been no biggie. She “surprised” me today for dinner with Chicken soup with shredded chicken and veggies from a Mexican restaurant that she pureed with a little rice. About 4 oz worth. holy Moses.....about 5-6 bites in, I got some pretty significant tightness in middle of chest. Stayed around for about 10 min. Like the kind when I first started the protein shakes. Fine now. Sipping on protein water. Told her next time let’s added some broth to it to thin it out even more.

  26. I injured my knee when I was 18 (ACL reconstruction). I’m 48 now and developed moderate to severe arthritis in that knee, starting after I lost about 20 lbs before surgery. I have now lost 80lbs total and my knee is toast. My surgeon said that sometimes the fat stabilizes the joint and weight loss can bring this on. My orthopedist says that my weight loss was too little too late and I had already done the damage. Anyone else experience this? Because misery loves company. Come sit next to me and have some whine and (lowfat) cheese (stick).

A while back someone posted a chart that gave concrete items to equate to how much weight we have lost. I tried to search, but am missing it. Can someone point me to it? I think it would be fun to do again. Thanks in advance! Found it! I have lost one newborn calf and 2 guinea pigs! 1 pound = a Guinea Pig 1.5 pounds = a dozen Krispy Kreme glazed donuts 2 pounds = a rack of baby back ribs 3 pounds = an average human brain 4 pounds = an ostrich egg 5 pounds = a Chihuahua 6 pounds = a human’s skin 7.5 pounds = an average newborn 8 pounds = a human head 10 pounds= chemical additives an American consumes each year 11 pounds = an avera…

I don't think I could have prepared for the loss of appetite that happens with surgery. I'm not hungry, haven't been hungry since 8/5 - the day before my surgery. I thought it would be awesome not being hungry. And in a way, it is. I wasn't prepared for how its not. I hate eating right now. I don't struggle doing it, I just don't want to do it. There is no joy in it, it takes up my time, it occasionally hurts if i try to rush it. Honestly would like to take a day off and not eat anything and would be perfectly content but I know thats not what's best for my body. So I guess I'll force down the protein drinks, soups, and yogurts today. I hope this melancholy reg…

Im just not hungry! I didn't drink or eat anything until 3PM. When I do try to have some puree I'm so full after only 3-4 little scoops on a baby spoon (baby spoon is not full) If I do eat I don't have 6 meals a day, maybe only 1 or 2. Is that normal at this stage? I'm also on a weightless stall, I've been stuck at the same weight for 4 days. I makes me not want to eat or drink anything at all. I have a hard time getting my protein in. I manage 1 premier protein a day. Tell me this is all normal? Will I get into the swing of things soon?

Hi Everyone, I just joined this site after finding it yesterday. After a recent 20lb weight loss and regain (for like the 100th time) I have decided to pursue sleeve surgery. About me: 50 years old. Current weight 270. 5'7. I have been hovering around 270 for about 5 years now after previously living in the 250 world for a few years. For about 10 years before that, I hovered around 230. I am sick of the weight being in control of how I live, dress, socialize, travel, my career, etc. I want this lens removed from my vision of myself.....and want to deal with the challenges of life without also worrying about being fat, feeling sick, breathing heavy, struggling to…

Ok guys chances are I’m just letting my first stall get the better of me but I’m gonna ask a few questions please feel free to comment on any or all. I was sleeved on 8/20. I lost 24 pounds pre-op. I didn’t gain during two day stay in hospital and immediately lost 10 more the first 5 days after surgery. So that’s 35 total pounds lost. Here’s the problem. I stopped losing weight just 5 days after. For three days now I’ve been at the same weight. I NEVER hear about a first week stall so I’m worried. 1. Is it heard of to stall first week? 2. I’m 7 days post op and can already consume more than 64 ounces (which I was told to work toward) by late afternoon. I…

It's been two years since I was able to get out on my kayak and today my husband and I got back in the water. I love my kayak and it felt so good to paddle again. We did seven miles and this picture is taken from Hollywood Beach not far from my home. (Not in Hollywood!) The sea lions were everywhere and we even had some pups following us around. That's the break water behind me at the mouth of the Channel Islands Harbor. It's good to feel good again! And yes!!! It's a pink kayak! I love it! My paddle is pink too, but the picture got landscaped and cut off when I attached it. Bummer!

I'm only 1 week post-op (VSG) but I'm curious to know how many of you are thrill seekers and how long after your surgery did you venture back to the land of roller coasters and amusement park rides? I know this sounds crazy but I swear when I move these days I can feel my insides move right along with me. But, I'm dying to get back out there and ride some rides. We have a big vacation planned for October and heading to Universal Studios, and hoping the rides will be doable. We also hold season tickets to a local park which I would love to use sooner rather than later. I should mention that 1 week post op, I get a little motion sick driving myself 30-minutes to work…

My surgery date was July 6th and I feel that I should have lost more weight by now. I have to be honest, though, to let you all know that I have not exercised at all. I know people say you can eat about one cup of food when all is said and done, but when is that typically? I have a dr appt sept 6 so I’ll obvi talk to my doc.
