Hello everyone! I am at the end of the pre-surgery hoop-jumping process. My insurance required me to go to 6 months worth of dietician appointments and primary care physician visits. I have had all 6 of both and have my pre-op consultation with the surgeon scheduled. I'm very excited to be closer to changing my life forever. At the same time, I'm terrified. I joined this website to gain extra support and have a place to go to where everyone understands what I'm going through. Jess

I've been seeing my doctor once a month for the past 5 months. My 6TH appointment is scheduled for 8/8/12. My consultation appointment at UC is 8/2/12.......next week!! I'm starting to get nervous and hope all goes well. I really want this procedure to go through and I'm hoping that I'm not told I can't for some reason. What is expected at this 3 hour consultation appointment? My mom had gastric by-pass but I'm looking into having the lap-band. I heard there is some other procedure called the sleeve, but I don't know much about it. I seen what my mom went through after having gastric and seen that loosing weight too fast causes you to have access skin. I just h…

When I started this journey I weighted 257...in hospital before surgery I weighted 251, and weighed myself today and was 255 (nurse said because water weight...I hope!) but I am very positive and happy, haven't felt like this in a long time! 20. I wrote this and posted it here a while back. I still believe it and thought it might help some newbies. We all have them, and yes they can be infuriating. Currently I have been on an extended slow losing run for 6 weeks. Yes I get down, want to say to heck with it and just eat whatever and sometimes do. So here are some things that help my sanity. :-) feel free to add yours. Remember your body is in shock and completely new territory and is adjusting. This requires it to go against most of it's normal processes. So remember that at your caloric intake it can not last, it will eventually break the set points and natural ability to conserve resources. And you wil…

I a able to do thing like Zumba, play at Bounce U with my kids-even play on the house and obstacle courses with them, walked a marathon, was able to ride some roller coaster rides, walk 3 miles in 45 mins. I still have a long ways to go. I have faith in myself and wonderful support. My support comes from my family, friends and you guys. Thank you so much for the encouragement. I have been slowing down on the weight loss now. I do have to say frightens me a little. Yet, I believe this is normal. The rest of it is truely up to me to excercise. Thanks again

At 5’2” and 305 lbs., I am extremely overweight because of the choices I have made, not due to illness or medication. When I had a friend or two have by-pass surgery, i refused to even consider it for myself. I felt that if I could just “get it right” in my head, I would eat less and move more (the secret to weight loss). 8 yrs ago, I went low carb and lost 87 lbs. I was obsessed with my diet and exercise plan to the detriment of my family. When I realized the imbalance, I quit and gained all the weight back. I had not considered weight loss surgery seriously in the past because I was afraid it would only treat the symptom, not the real problem. Am I the only one strug…

  30. Hello fellow sleeve-rs, I have a long story to tell, but will try to keep you awake. Almost 7 years ago I was given a permanent illeostoymy due to Crohn's disease. I was diagnosed with Crohn's about 12 years ago. I tried all the treatments FDA approved and some I had to get from Canada. Because I had serious allergic reactions to all the "big guns" the doctors used to treat Crohn's. The treatment they all turned to was steroids. This led to a gain of 100 lbs. My decision to have gastric surgery was based on the recommendation I received from the Mayo Clinic after a full work up, from head to toe (literally). I was sick all the time. In and out of the hospital wit…

Hi my name is Denise, I have been toying with WLS for around 3 years...yes I'm chicken and a bit of an over thinker I have been looking into mainly the lapband but remeber hearing about the "sleeve" on a forum a year or so ago, so I thought I would look into it today. Initially I was refferd for gastric bypass by my pcp, but that seemed so extreme, then I discovered the band . I have talked myself in and out of this to many times to even really know? I went in for a consultatin and even had the surgery date, went in had labs done and the whole bit, only to find out that my surgery had been cancelled 2 days before surgery, due to insufficeint documentation for UHC ins. …

Hi everyone! My name is Kristin and I am almost 1 month post-op. Had surgery July 23, 2012. Things have been going pretty well thus far. I haven't had any complications (knock on wood). However, when I eat too fast I tend to throw up instantly. So I am working on that. I am supposed to be on the puree stage and I half doing it. I am also type 2 diabetic...numbers have been pretty good, not fully cured yet, but it's coming along. When I started my journey I was on insulin, 2 kinds, and was put on a 6 week diet to get off insulin. So I lost roughly 30 lbs from that and since surgery I have lost roughly 17lbs. I am not sure if any of you have experienced the 3 week stall, I …

Just set my surgery date. Super nervous and extremely excited at the same time. Has anyone had the lapband for greater than 5 years on this forum? I've been researching long term effects of lapband recently and it has caused me to have some second thoughts. Some of the data out there is disturbing. But I have a feeling that having a BMI classified as morbidly obese will cause me much more harm in the long run. Ready to be healthy!!

He suggested a bypass due to my diabetes. But I told him " that is to drastic and I prefer the banding", so now we are all on the same page as far as surgery. I know that the VSG is the right move for me but I am nervous about the potential complications. I have had a lifelong issue with my weight. I remember going on my first diet in the third grade. I got to a point when I turned thirty that I was considering weight loss surgery, but I wanted to try and give it another shot on my own. I didn't really like the idea of the Lapband or the gastric bypass for myself, so I didn't really want to do surgery at that time. I worked with a bariatric doctor and a nutrit…

I have run several 5k's and worked out 6 days a week for a year and even participated in the Mud Run, a 10k obstacle course, last summer. It wasn't until after that that my doctor told me I had hypothyroidism. I thought the medicine would help me lose the weight but I have done some research and found that it has more to do with your metabolism being stuck. I'm not getting any younger (34) and at first I felt LapBand would be a sign of failure but not I see it as more of a tool. It is frustrating when you do work out a lot and the weight doesn…
