I have been watching this site getting helpful information for months and just haven't signed up. Welp...I got my surgery date today with Dr. Aceves. I will be going to Mexicali to be sleeved on Sept 28th and I'm super excited~! This site is awesome for people who don't have a very strong support system at home, thank you so much I had a consult with a local surgeon but decided to cancel and be self pay because Dr. Aceves appears to be a much more experienced surgeon.... Can anyone tell me what to expect as far as pain and pain management?

Hello. I started the process back in December 2011. I have been working with the nutritionist and have seen the psychologist twice. I've gotten my six months worth of doctor progress notes and everything is in order. However i have yet to see the surgeon. They wont schedule me until i get under 400 lbs on my own. They won't do any of the surgeries unless you are under 400. I don't see too many on the forums with the same problem as mine.. or many people doing this near or over 400.. but I'm curious if anyone else has run across this? Currently I'm out of town swimming a lot to lose weight and I've lost almost 20 lbs since being here and am at 404. I don't plan on …

I have a great life, with one exception. My body has changed dramatically in the last few years (since my thyroid was irradiated) and I hardly recognize myself. I want to hike, dance, workout and live again with ease. I want to recognize myself when I look in the mirror. I want to be free from the pain I now have in my joints and muscles. I want to regain my strength. I want to feel good about how I look and strut my stuff again. I want to move in the world with the grace I have always known. I look forward to "leveling the playing field", to giving myself the VSG tool and to reclaiming my place in the world. In March 2012, I had interviewed one surgeon (Dr. Lauter) and…

  6. Hi, I'm new to this site, but wanted to introduce myself. I'm hoping to get VSG done through Kaiser. I'm 49 years old and am 5'3" and weigh 219. Over the years I have yo-yoed with my weight. This past year and a half, I was able to lose 60 pounds, just to gain it all back. I am hoping the VSG will keep me from "pigging" out. I just can't seem to keep the weight off. I was so happy when I lost the weight this last time that my friend convinced me to get rid of all my big size clothes (20/22) and was wearing small/medium size. Now, I only have a handful of clothing that fit me because I am back up to a 20/22....so depressing! Oh, I am back on my high blood pressure…

Hi. My name is Mary and I found you guys by typing in a problem I was having in a search engine. It must have been fate I have been watching and reading your stories for a couple days and you have all been quite helpful and inspirational. I started my journey at 301 pounds. I knew when I crossed that 300 line that was it for me. I was a insulin dependant diabetic with liver and thyroid problems and high cholesterol. It was time to change. I went to the seminar in February and started working out and seeing my surgeon and a few other docs regularly. I got down to 283. I started my liquid diet on July 20 and had my surgery on July 27. Hi everyone. Well it's day 6 of my new life. My RNY was on 7/31/12, I spent 2 days in the hospital which went really good. My only complaint was how sore my throat felt- not internally but externally. Finally figured out after looking in the mirror and seeing one dandy of a bruise - one of the probes dropped on my throat and chest - before my Doc entered surgery. Can honestly say that was my only pain 1st 3 days. Everyone has been very encouraging with me - " this is the beginning to the new Rhonda!" is what I'm constantly hearing. I'm also currently going thru a divorce after 24 years of marriage to my high school sweetheart. Been together for 28 yrs. Found out one yea…

I would love to hear from other people who have also had band over bypass - what their experience was, how they handle a new set of food restrictions on top of those like dumping syndrome, success stories, etc. Excited to be on the next step of the journey and appreciate all feedback! Hi there. I have been overweight for what seems forever, been on diets all my life and have been looking into a bariatric surgery for over 5 years now. After finally reaching my low of wishing for a way out of this body I feel trapped in, undecided to act. It's time to do something big. The last time I lost weight was 2 years ago when I actually trained like a kick boxer with a trainer. I lost 30 pounds but I couldn't keep up the pace. I have crackly knees and bad congenital hips. I've had an emergency back surgery for a terrible disk that I had fought with for 12 years and don't want to repeat that. I got a bit of crushing news today. My insurance has something speci…

Over the last two to three years I began gaining weight (53lbs). I decided to have a revision after an endoscopy showed my anastamosis was dialated. I also had a upper GI that showed my pouch was not stretched. However having the dialation causes food to empty my pouch quicker causing hunger after a short period of time. This is something that just happened through no fault of my own. However I did pick up the habit of smoking for the last eight years after never smoking before that! I hav…

I want to tell them that I can start work on Aug 29 (2 weeks post surgery). Is this crazy? Am I trying to do too much? I have the option of bringing in a 'helper' to do any physical work needed in the first week I'm back. I just would like some input from people that have gone through this. I want to be fair to my body, but also be available to start the position as soon as possible. Thanks! CB
