Hello Everyone! I am new to the forum and am having my lapband/plication surgery on 8/8. I am excited, anxious, nervous, and all other emotions combined. I am on my liquid only phase on my pre-op diet and hope it gets easier after surgery. I am very excited to be on this journey and hope this tool will help me kick my bad habits once and for all. One of my biggest drivers to have the surgery is I am 28 and my husband and I are looking to have kids in the next few years and I do not want to pass along my habits to my kids like my family passed along to me. So excited to start this new life and this journey and look forward to getting to know some of you as we go …

I thought I'd get some info out there. I have started getting things going to have the surgery. I'm 42 weighing 291 and my bmi is 50. This was an easy solution. I've tried all the diets, changing how I eat, working out. Nothing worked for me. I have 5 kids and its to the point I can't enjoy life and go do things with them. I have diabetes, hbp, HERD, high cholesterol and severe pain. I know I'm going to have to pay $1157 out of pocket. My questions are how long does it usually take for the whole process, from going to seminar to having the surgery?

My dietician called me out of nowhere and said that she pleaded my case to the surgeon to go ahead with my surgery without any further appointments because I am so healthy and young and don't have anything medically wrong with me. She said I would be getting the call from the surgeons office within a week or so, and I unexpectedly got the call that same day. I just went in and met with the surgeon last Thursday and it went very well. My surgery is scheduled for september 24th (two days before my 23rd bday). But I do have to get a scope done before and hope to god nothing is wrong that'll delay surgery. I am soo excited! One thing that I found very odd was that the surgeon…

Hi Everyone. I was freaking out a week ago and got some really nice messages from folks reassuring me. The surgery went well. I was only in a lot of pain the night of the surgery but I still got up and walked the halls in the hospital. I'm following a liquid diet but have to admit I'm craving something to chew on. Has anyone "cheated" by eating something they weren't supposed to? I have to be on liquids another week and I don't know if I can go that long without having at least a piece of toast. LOL

I had surgery May 2,2012. I am almost 3 months post op. I was doing great. I have lost 43 lbs. Walking everyday and eating really healthy. Now I have lost it. I have nobody to walk with anymore. It seemed like everybody was supportive at first but recently nobody wants to walk with me and everybody around eats un healthy. My fiance acts like he don't care anymore if I do right or not. I have been depressed and not doing like I have been. i really need my encouragement back. This sucks!!

Thrilled, thrilled, thrilled. Saw the post-op bariatrics team last Wednesday. Kaiser defines a sucessful bariatrics patient as one who has lost 50% of the excess weight within one year following surgery. I have lost 81% in 7 months. This forum is a wonderful resource, with many people who are very successful with the sleeve in the long-run. I want to add my experiences to the pool of information. I plan on being one of the long-runs. To keep losing weight, I have to eat fewer than 50 grams of carb a day, and stay under 1200 calories. No, I usually don't get all my Water in. I also drink coffee, with 2% milk. This is the source of most of my carb. Eating too much…

I've been struggling with my weight for longer then I can remember. It seems like as soon as I made the decision to have surgery the weight is just melting off. 28lbs in two weeks!?! Don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, I know if I wasn't having the surgery it would come right back but geez. I haven't even really changed my diet much, and am totally going through "last meal syndrome." the next couple months is definitely going to be a roller coaster.

Hey everyone, my name is Christi and I have been considering the lap band surgery to help me lose weight. I have my first appt on Thursday... I believe this is the consultation where I attend a class, talk to nutritionist, get blood work, and speak with Dr. The hospital that I am going to is a little over 2 hours away... I am anxious but I also feel a little overwhelmed. My mother and grandmother had the gastric bypass surgery and I don't want to experience the bad side effects that they did... I have always been over weight... My whole life... Until about 5 years ago... I started working too much, not eating enough, and was stressed all the time... I lost over 100 pounds…

Hi everyone. I went to my first dr appmt yesterday. I had my psych visit beforehand and have medical clearance. I am having a scope done Aug 21 and will set a surgery date afterwards. I am so excited and hate that I have to do the scope first. It isn't mandatory but I do have heartburn and some reflux so I thought it would be a good idea. I'm nervous about the prep diet. It sounds terrible! Any suggestions on how to get through it?

Had my surgery Monday the 30th and have been home since Tuesday. At first was a little scared of my choice but see it's getting easier. As rare as this is,VSG was my 1st EVER surgery so u can see the theory behind my fears. Up and walking and drinking my fluids every hour on the hour. Using SF Jello, water, protein, chicken and beef broth, crystal light and even a smoothie from Planet Smoothie. Any suggestions on other flavors or options..options?

Hi, This is my first post. My name is Sandra McMahon-Gill (Sandy). I am 58 years young and awaiting approval from Keystone so we can get the ball (sleeve)rolling. It has taken me 3 years to get to this point, in 2008 I starting the necesssary steps when I was accidently unexpectedly diagnosed with ovarian cancer(stage one fortunetly), so I had the requisite hysterectomy but Yippee--no chemo or radiation necessary. Ok so get all past that and in 2011 tried again, when I came down with necrotizing facitis(a type of mersa), s--t, have to wait again. Thankfully I came out of the necro....with all parts intact! Finally Late Spring of 2012-I started the steps (one …

Hi my name is Jackie, I'm new to this & would truly love help with more info. It would be helpful if anyone in Brooklyn, N.Y knows of any doctors who can do this surgery as well as a revision of the band & hernia removal. I also would love to know how people who have done this surgery feel 3yrs or more later. Are there any complications a couple years later? Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance & God bless!

Hi everyone! Just had my surgery 5 days ago and am having a hard time adjusting. I did not prepare myself as much as I should have. I was hoping that there are some other people around the same stage as me who can share some advice? I'm a young mom of 2 and really had a hard time losing weight after both pregnancies. I know this is just a tool to help me with my weight loss goals and that I am the deciding factor in the end. I'm feeling kind of down because I am getting hungry now, and whenever I are or smell food I get really upset. So much so my husband and kids have to eat when I'm upstairs. This doesn't feel right or fair! Help/ suggestions?

Hello. I am new and almost three weeks post op. I am finding it very difficult to get all my protein. I am not liking protein shakes at all. I find some days I just don't care to eat and other days I think I am feeling hungry. With all that said, I am trying to get in all the stuff I am supposed to in a day. Trying to get everything in leaves me stressed out. I have lost 27 pounds since leaving the hospital. How do you handle getting everything in your supposed to? Do you find it as overwhelming as I do? How do you handle it?

4 days in this mental ward they call a hospital will drive you crazy. For the room rate they charge they sure don't want you to miss anything and keep waking you up to enjoy it. Will be good to be home. My step daughter just go home from collage in Japan will be here for 4 weeks then back to school. Japanese university's don't mess around but it's a way better education then what she would get in the states. Can you tell I'm BORED.

Hello everyone. I'm not new here, though I don't believe I've ever posted before. I've been reading this site over the past 16 months and it's really inspiring to see all of the people going through the same journey that I've been on. I wanted to take a moment to share my story with you and hopefully spread the word about what I'm trying to do on the internet when it comes to VSG education and counseling for WLS patients in general. I started off almost two years ago at nearly 430lbs. I was able to drop down to 365 prior to surgery and have since dropped to 185lbs (my current weight). I have resolved my diabetes (A1C level is under 6) and gotten rid of my high cholester…
