Well yesterday was my big day. My doctor Dr. Lee and his staff at the Southern Minnesota Surgical center Rock!!!! Went to hospital at 8:30am went back to the OR at 9:40 Was back in my room waking up at 11:00. I seriously had no pain. I did have a bit of shoulder pain from the gas. But my nurse got hotpacks on my shoulder and it was gone in about an hour. at 11;30 I asked to get up and go to the bathroom and take a little walk down the hall. At 1;00 did the same thing I was in the car and home by 3:30. I did have a dose of Loratab elixer before I left the hospital but really no pain. Today I have a bit of what feels like a sore muscle wear my port is. Bee…

Hey everyone!! I am 5 days post op and doing well so far. I have to admit it was a little rougher than I had expected! I know several people who have gotten it done and they acted like it was nothing to it! I was in a lot of pain even from the time my eyes opened...I felt like a elephant was sitting on my chest and I couldn't breathe. My back hurt pretty bad too but I think that was just from laying on the hard table in the OR. I got out of bed immediately bc my back was hurting so bad. I started walking right away and as I started walking I started to feel better. The next few days were miserable. I wouldn't say painful..just miserable! I could not get comfortable…

Hi all! I have met another little milestone here at the beginning of my journey. I went to my PCP yesterday, prepared to defend my decision to have WLS, but it turns out that I didn't have to! She totally agrees with me, after discussing my family history and my own history of yo-yo dieting. She said she would refer me right then if it weren't for all the hoops we have to jump through for the insurance company. So my 6-month medically supervised diet starts today! One step closer to my goal - a healthier, thinner me!

I had my sleeve done July 12, 2012 and I've pretty much been in the hospital ever since. I'm unable to keep down liquids and the Dr is saying my stomach is still swollen too tight. I'm being sent home today with steroids and antacids via picc line IV. Docs are saying the swelling should go down with the steroids as they are trying to avoid going back to do a revision surgery (rny). Has anyone experienced this? I'm just praying the swelling will go down and I can at least get liquids down. I'll be seeing my Dr in his office next Tuesday July 31st and the hope is the swelling would've gone down where they can do an edg with dilation or even better won't have to do a scope a…

Six months ago I started the process to have bariatric surgery. At 388 lbs. I knew I had to do something to save my life so I started following the South Beach diet as directed by my Dr. and excerising. My goal was to lose some weight (10 to 15 lbs.) and have gastric bypass done to help me with the rest of the weight. I have surpassed that goal and have lost 80 lbs. so far (yay me!!) On July 11th I finally had a meeting with a surgeon and have decided to have the Gastric Sleeve done to help as a tool with the rest of my weight loss. I was given a surgery date of August 24th and am very excited to start this next step of my journey. I am setting a goal of 200 lbs. for…

Hi everyone! I'm Rachel, I'm 29 years old and I am looking forward to my first surgical consult visit on 8/2. I'm so excited and nervous and anxious and basically, you name the emotion and I'm feeling it. I have struggled with my weight forever... diet after diet, workout after workout, three kids and 300 pounds later, here I am. I was getting to a point where I felt totally and completely helpless over my weight. I would step on the scale and think... when did this happen? How did I let myself get here? I don't want to believe that those numbers represent who I am and how people see me. It is truly depressing and I don't want to live like that anymore! I am s…

I'm a rookie, just decided a couple of months ago that I am interested in getting the surgery after batteling with weight most of my adult life. My biggest motivator is my mom, she had the surgery about 11 years ago. She weighed about 250 at the time, she's 5'2. About a year out of the surgery she went down to 130, she looked great. She now fluctuates between 140-150, but still looks great. Her type two diabetes is well managed still, she no longer takes/needs the meds and sleep apnea gone. So the fact that she has been so successful with this surgery is very encouraging. I hope her story encourages some others on here as well, when looking at the long term impacts of the…

surgery June 2010 starting weight 298, current weight 150 Have been up to 165 but had surgery 6 weeks ago and back to 150 Diagnosed with breast cancer april 2011, early stage so great outlook, think the weight loss surgery saved me. I don't think I would have felt the lump had I still been overweight. double masectomy June 2011 diagnosed Mutated BCR1 gene (greater chance of cancer) because of this decided to have hysterectomy and ovaries removed 6 weeks ago. due to surgery forced into instant menopause (yikes!) First thing I want to say is, the surgery is not for the faint of heart. I've had 2 c-sections, and gallbladder removal surgery so I kind of knew what I was getting in to. If you've never had surgery just be prepared, there is quite a bit of pain in your abdomen, and the worst is geting up out of the bed every time you go to the restroom, which is very frequently since they are giving you fluids through an IV. So, put on your Brave face and tackle it head on, you can do this!! I arrived at the hospital Wednesday at 5:30am and things started happening very quickly. I got called back, changed into gown, and people started coming in, anesthesia team, nurses, and surgeon. T…

I must admit - I am in a funk; tired of some of the foods I eat - actually I feel exhausted by food alone. Tired of thinking about what I should eat, how it will affect my now fragile stomach. I am exhausted from concern of how much weight I have lost - or if I will gain in back -weary about what will and will not fit and should I sell it or give it away. I have shopped in every store in the area for new cuter clothes; I am bored with them all. This is the one place I feel safe in letting these feelings go and I know soon I will feel better and get back to the contentment of my new much healthier life - but today; I want to eat a big meal with my friends again, …

Hey my name is Ashley and I'm new here like a good amount of others in this thread. I want to get lap band surgery but I am just at a loss where to even start. I attended a meeting for people who would like the know more about the surgery with my mother (who had gastric bipass about 10 years ago with huge success) but I just feel at a complete loss on how to go about getting this going in the right direction. I'm 23 and weigh 400 pounds. It is taking a toll on me and I finally have come to accept that all the pains I am feeling now are because of my weight, and they'll only get worse in time if I don't act now! I wasn't always overweight. I was a very energetic, athle…

I came to this forum so sure the sleeve was THE answer for me... I'm in my second month of three till my paperwork will be submitted to insurance for approval... However... As I have gone through these last two months of starting my fitness pal, talking to everyone (you all, docs, nuts, etc.), maintaining a 12-1300 calorie diet, starting to walk on the treadmill for 30 mins each day, losing 20+ lbs on my own with no real struggle I have begun to think maybe I can do this on my own without surgery... Then I waiver as I fear failure once again... I'm so tired of bouncing back and forth! I'm looking for some kind of sign, lol, of what to do...

Just wanted to take a moment to share my journey so far with those of you thinking of this surgery or starting out... 10 months ago, i weighed 150 kgs ( 330 pounds) and waited anxiously to be admitted to hospital, managed to work myself up into a right mess before surgery, much of which I now dont remember. However do remember a really cute male nurse holding my hand and trying to calm me. Next thing I know I am waking up in the ICU (protocol for my doctor) and throwing up blood (not so standard) but otherwise Ok. Spent the night in the ICU and in the morning they moved me out to another room, and got me up and walking., After that everything progressed relatively is…

Hello All! My name is Lynetta. I am 31 year old mother of 2. I had the RNY gastric bypass on 6/22/12 so far the road has been rocky and I'm still waiting for the moment I am sure will come where I will say it was all worth it or I will do it all again. Since my surgery I have been back and forth to the hospital almost every week with severe pain and dehydration being some of my previous diagnosis. A week ago I told my Dr. that I was unable to keep down any food and whatever I managed to get down came up. I was admitted to ER to find out I have an ulcer and a few days later had to have my gallbladder removed. So I have been officially home for 5 days now and just tryin…

Hi, everyone! My name's Erica and I am 6 days post-op. I feel pretty good. I am a married, homeschooling mom and writer. I was an average kid and a thin teenager, but things got out of whack when I had a Norplant placed just before I was married 15 years ago and I've been steadily gaining ever since. Finally, at 373 pounds and a BMI of 53.5, enough was enough. I lost 13 pounds on my pre-op diet and go back to my surgeon on Thursday to see what I've lost since last Tuesday. The post-op diet is going pretty well; I start pureed foods tomorrow. The hardest part for me, so far, has been getting enough Water, but I'm getting better.
