12 Days Post Op And Swollen

I had my sleeve done July 12, 2012 and I've pretty much been in the hospital ever since. I'm unable to keep down liquids and the Dr is saying my stomach is still swollen too tight. I'm being sent home today with steroids and antacids via picc line IV. Docs are saying the swelling should go down with the steroids as they are trying to avoid going back to do a revision surgery (rny). Has anyone experienced this? I'm just praying the swelling will go down and I can at least get liquids down. I'll be seeing my Dr in his office next Tuesday July 31st and the hope is the swelling would've gone down where they can do an edg with dilation or even better won't have to do a scope at all. I'm so nervous and scared. I'd also like to mention I went from lapband to sleeve.

DId they tell you WHY they would do somethng as invasive as an RNY if you are swelling over the sleeve?

Get a second opinion ASAP - non-medical guesstimate I think maybe you doctor is not lettijng you know all that is going on, and they do that when they dont want you to know they slipped up.

It is just speculation, but born of a certain amount of observation.

I don't want to worry you, just covering one of your bases, so to speak.

I agree. You need to get a copy of any images they have taken of your newly formed sleeve (stomach) to ensure that they formed it properly. I think you should also ask for a complete copy of all records of your surgery and hospitalization. You obiously won't know whether the probem is just abnormal swelling or

Surgical error until you get more info, but you need those records.

Whatever ghe problem, sending prayers for speedy healing, peace and an excellent outcome for you.

Thank you everyone! I go back to the Dr next week after being on a week of steroid treatment. They are thinking the swelling would have gone down by then, allowing them to do another scope to see if there's any problem. Of course if I'm tolerating liquids by then, no scope will be needed. If there was some kind of slip up or error in his part, I will be contacting a malpractice attorney asap but hopefully it won't go that far. Hopefully it's just swelling that will go down by next week.

I had 2 days of swelling and not being able to keep down fluids and I thought I would not make it. I admire your courage and strength and sincerely hope that no errors were made during your procedure and that you make a speedy recovery.

My stomach swelling is going down slowly, but I can hold down liquid. What I have is this searing burning pain on the left side of my stomach when I try to get up or sit down on a recliner or bend down if I drop something. Anybody know what that's about? My doctor said it's normal but it hurts a lot and when will it go away?

I haven't had much trouble with pain, still a little tender but that's about it. I only have one problem right now, which unfortunately is a major one, I can't keep fluids down. I'm just hoping I don't need anything more than an edg with dilation. A revision surgery would be a nightmare. I'm just relying on prayers and steroids to get me through Tuesday when I see the dr. I do have occasional gas pains but no big deal. I'd give anything to keep fluids down.

I'll keep you in my prayers for Tues. Hope all goes well. Keep us posted.

I just.want to say thank you again to everyone for your support and encouraging words. I want nothing more in the world but for everything to go as planned and be able to keep down fluids without any revision surgery. I hope I don't sound like a broken record but please prayer for me that this swelling goes down. Right now I'm at an all time low.
