First let me say Thank You for all your prayers. My surgery was Friday 9/16. Here is my story and I'm sticking to it. First I am still very sore and still alot of gas. My surgery had a few complications. I have a hypo-Thyroid so this played a little issue with the surgery but not bad. Then they discovered that I was bleeding under the skin and had to put a drain and bag on. I only say this so everyone knows that not every surgery is perfect. That being said I do have to say that outside of the complications it really was a wonderful experience. The people from Belite were there with me all the time. They were great and compassionate and honestly caring. JoAnne from …

So I should be grateful that I have gone 4 months without ever stalling but this is killing me! 14 days and not one ounce down. 75 to 80 minutes of cardio a day and 2 days of strength training a week, 80 ounces of water, 70g of protien and nothing, ugh so frustrated right now. I want to just go to he'll with myself but I can't. I also haven't been (regular) at all. No bm for 4 days. HELP

Hi I just wanted to say Hi. I'm a 43 year old male in Austin Texas and just had surgery yesterday at Turning Point in San Antonio. Today is my Bday and I did the lap band primarily because I developed Type2 Diabetes a couple of years ago and could not loose weight using only my willpower. I am glad to have this new tool. My surgeon is Dr. Esquivel in Austin and I used the Turning Point Surgery Center in SA. It was a very good experiance, a little scary, but the staff at turning point were very kind and did a good job. I started at 292, lost 12lbs on atkins pre surgery and would like to get to 190-210. I graduated from college in 1992 and weighed 185, at 200…

Hi all! Want to do a quick intro, I just found this site tonight. Like many of you, I have been battling weight my entire adult life and am happy that the battle, although it won't be over, will finally have some results. In high school, I was not overweight, but I was very self-conscious about my body. I wore huge over sized shirts to hide myself, which made me look a lot heavier than I was because of, well, let's say I was heavy up top. I had reduction surgery to take care of that in 2008. I was a size 3 at 5'1 and felt huge. I started my first real diet at age 17 and have battled my weight ever since. I always say that I never really had issues with weight un…

Hello! My name is Casey and I'm scheduled for August 7th. I have lost 25 lbs prepping for the band and begin the liquid prep diet on this Tuesday. My DH and I are both getting this done. He will probably have his the end of Sept. We have made huge changes together and are so excited to enjoy the rest of our lives! We have three daughters ages 6, 5 and 4. The girls have really enjoyed and benefitted from our new, much more active lifestyle. I feel hugely blessed to have this tool available to us.

In September 2011, my wife and I attended a seminar at Dr. Mailapur's in Huntsville, Alabama. We went to learn about the lap band but ended up choosing the sleeve. After consulting with Dr. Mailapur, we felt it was the best decision for us. We went through the months of hoops for Blue Cross/Blue Shield and both received our approval.....or so we thought. My wife received a written approval and mine was verbal from a customer service rep at BCBS. Our surgeries were scheduled and we were set to begin our journey. On the day of pre-admission, we found out that my approval had NOT been completed, so my surgery was cancelled. My wife went forward with hers on July 16, 20…

Well guys....countdown begins. My surgery is on Tuesday. I am not sure what time yet. Dr's office said they would call me on Monday before noon to let me know what time to be at the hospital. I have everything I THINK I will need. WOW. I cannot believe it's almost here and that I have successfully completed TWELVE days of the liquid diet. GO ME!!!! Honestly, it hasnt been as bad as I thought it would be. Guess that's a good thing and hopefully I won't 'miss' food as much post surgery either. Weird though...I am not nervous one bit. I am so ready. This is a whole new chapter in my life and I am going for it. I will have my mother by my side through the whole thing. Husband…

Hello, I'm new in the forum and new to this whole process. I have a couple of questions I'm hoping someone will be able to help me with. First my story, I live in Portland Oregon and am fortunate to have two healthcare plans that both cover surgery at 100%, Kaiser and IBX (Independence BCBS). I have the option to try to be referred through either. I am 5'6", 253 lbs. I have tried every diet under the sun but have a hard time losing any weight. I have severe IBS ever since having my gallbladder out and cannot eat any raw vegetables, several steamed vegetables, oatmeal, dairy, etc...so it's very hard to diet, fibromyalgia, moderate arthritis with bulging disks from L…

Hello, Im Julie. Im new to the site. Im 3 days into my pre-op diet. So far so good, I guess. The cravings are killing me! You know your in a bad way when you get excited over a protein shake cause its the sweetest thing you get to eat.

Saw my Doc and got the official BMI of 39.18! Less than a pound away from being approved by BCBS AL! Ughhhh! See my internal med Doc next week to start the 6 months of diet and frustration! I wish I could just go straight to Alvarez, but I know I need to try to get it covered by insurance. The money that I would self pay with needs to be put aside for any cosmetic issues that I may have in the future. Oh well, nothing worthwhile is ever easy! Par for the course for me! God knows best and He will see me through! I just need you all to help keep me sane through all this.

I was sleeved on July 20th and am very thankful for it. I just hate how my stomach still feels and looks so bloated. I have only lost 9 lbs. since surgery. I kinda thought it wouldbe more than that since all I am eating is protein shakes and eggs ( under 500 calories a day). I have started doing some light walking. I hope this is just me being impatient. Any words of wisdom to make me feel better would be great! I would love to hear your post op stories for the first few weeks.

Okay so today was my Great uncles Funeral and afterward they served the food. Now in my family and our culture it's kinda disrespectful to not eat. My only issue was it wasn't ANYTHING there that was remotely healthy and what I like to call "Bypass friendly" lol I'm still pre opt and was tempted/forced into eating the delicious Sin! I Ate really small portions and tried to eat slow as if I already had it. How can i maintain a healthy diet at family events or do I not eat even if%

I have the most amazing friend. She was so excited and open and told everyone about her decision to get her sleeve. It was because of her courage and strength that I have decided to embark on my own journey. I will be meeting with the surgeon in a few weeks and I am so excited, ready to embark on the road to a healthier me. I even found out my insurance does cover it!!! That said the one thing that I have struggled with is deciding if I was going to tell everyone or not. My husband is very supportive and so is my awesome friend, but after a lot of thought I have decided I am not telling anyone, with the exception of some friends and anyone I meet or know that is strugglin…

I think its happening.....I officially have swapped out food for shopping. All my free time is spent online shopping! Yesterday I bought a $500 handbag....I really can't afford! And this mining I'm at the computer looking for new things that make me " feel good" . Yesterday my reasoning for the purchase was just " I deserve it!" I didn't need it at all. And I seem to justify other purchases because I have a coupon.....lol. my credit card company called today to verify if my card was stolen...lol! Hmmm.....red flag? Today I'm promising myself to not look online anymore..and not to enter any stores! Anyone else having the signs of a shopping addiction? Lol

[ my confession V E N T I N G session] I absolutely LOVE bread, Carbs and anything with cheese I swear Ive never been a day without carbs at some point. Turkey and cheese Sandwhiches are mostly what I eat. I rarely cook and if I do it's mostly processed food :/ I have odd cravings around the time I'm due for my monthly..and it's like I can't and won't eat anything until I fulfill the craving!! I'm not gonna lie to you guys I have yet to exersise lol smh it's SO FREAKING HARD to stay motivated when your by yourself most of the time. You would think because I'm not working I'd have all the time in the world (which I kinda do) to join a gym or exersise at home or something…

Did not drink or eat the rest of the night. I am worried about not getting enough or eating to much, I have also found myslef not waiting two min between bites is there a possibly I have done something wrong. I am so please with my surgery!!!!!!!!!! It was a great hospital and a great experience to go through! First my IV, I had to get poked twice for that because i have ridiculous veins that hide out. At first I was scared of the pain and had to be givin a Valium through my IV (which I recommend highly for any who are worriers) Then i remember being really calm and cool with it all and even said "lets do this lets cut my stomach" (Valium trip) When I woke up I was in horrifying pain and could barely speak. I got a morphin atached to my IV and could push the button every 6 minutes. Oh and I did! That put me back to sleep. I awoke to flowers!!!! so nice!!!! I love th…
