Just When You Think You've Got The Band All Figured Out......

What Did You Say?
Different surgery...same type of response... I had to have surgery on my wrist a few years ago after smashing it. I remember waking up in recovery to those damn beeping monitors!!! All I wanted to do was go back to sleep and the nurse wouldn't let me! Stupid nurse. Stupid monitors! After my lap band I was surprised I wasn't in more pain! I do remember as I was becoming more aware of my surroundings I started to have an mild anxiety attack. I don't really remember what I said to the nurse about it but I do remember her asking me what she could do to help. My response, "I don't know". She opened the curtains and things just got better. Such a small thing but it helped and I will always be grateful. BTW - Thanks to all the nurses out there for all you do. Remember sometimes it's the smallest thing that patients remember!

I Frustrate Myself!!!
I feel like I should start a blog but I'm just not sure I'm comfortable with that...so instead I'll share here. I am so frustrated with myself right now! I have been falling back into old bad habits like snacking when I'm not hungry, hiding my eating, and making bad food choices. I am horrible at keeping a journal. I tell myself it is something I will use when I hit a plateau and when I do, I journal for a day at best. Yes, I've tried several apps on my phone, taking pictures of my food and the basic writing down what I eat but none of them last long. When I went to adjust my weight tracker tonight I realized I had only lost 1 pound in 4 weeks. I admit it is better than gaining but I need to get back on track. My next PA appointment is September 13th and at this point I do plan to get a fill. I have not had one yet and know that could be part of the problem. I know it is not the entire problem though! I am battling eating past being satisfied and into "I'm stuffed". Today has probably been the best day for me this week. Hopefully just getting what is in my head out into "cyberspace" will help me get back on track. I also keep looking forward to September 4th, that magical day when school starts and I can hopefully get back into a more predictable routine! Thanks for reading my rant!

Normal??? 7 Days Post Op & Starting "mushy" Foods
I agree to stop when you start feeling full. I'm not sure I agree with trying to wait 4 hours between meals at 7 days post op. . . further out, yes! Your body is still healing. As Chandra12 said make sure you are getting plenty of fluids (48 oz of Water minimum) and that you are eating items high in Protein. Also don't drink 1/2 hour before or after a "meal" (longer if that's what your doctor recomends). Following these rules will help you feel fuller longer.

Question
I am 4 months post op and also have not had a fill. I expect to get one at my next visit in mid September. My PA uses a questionaire to help us decide if I need a fill or not. It helps you to figure out if you're in the green zone or not. Just like Mis73 said...it depends...great advice to base your decision on!

Mirena? To Take Out Or Not?
I also have Mirena had surgery, no problem.

Support
Having a history of depression along with a judgmental, non supportive parent I would suggest you take advantage of any psych offered through your surgeon/clinic. The support you can receive here is great but in no way can replace the medical help from a qualified professional. With that said, GOOD FOR YOU! Having surgery is not an easy decision to make and there will be struggles with old habits that having the band will not take away. The most common regret I've read about on here is not having the surgery sooner. With two - two year olds this is also a great gift you are giving them - a healthy mom!

Back To Reality...
Congratulations on your wedding! I think you are right about air travel, stress and dehydration being factors. While in Hawaii did you travel to different altitudes (volcano's)? That may have also affected it. I was in Hawaii last summer (pre-band) and I know that my rings were generally tighter so I would think we may also be more likely to retain Water when traveling.

3Rd Fill Need Help
I also have been dealing with this lately. I was banded April 13th and haven't had a fill yet. Up until the last week or so I have been able to overcome those temptations. Now I find myself eating when I am not hungry. If I keep myself busy and away from food it's easy to avoid the temptation but that has not been easy to do the past couple of weeks. When I get back to my regular school schedule in a couple of weeks (I'm a special ed aid) I expect that to help a lot. Until then I have a feeling I will be fighting myself quite a bit. I go back to see my surgical PA on September 16th and think I will be getting a fill.

Would You Do It Again
I am 4 months post op and can take "gulps". Now it's just Water, Sobe 0, Vitamin Water 0, or Crystal Light instead of Coke Zero. The first few days post op I kept my drinks to 1-2 oz at a time and gradually increased them over the next few weeks. My eyes are still bigger than my stomach, I'm still working on that. Sometimes I take larger bites than I should but as long as I chew, chew, chew, I'm fine.

Pre-(Sh)Op
This is a great life long gift you are giving your son. Not only a healthy mom but a great role model of how to live a healthy life!

Snacks On Pre-Op Diet?
All docs/nutritionist are different. Sorry you have to wait 3 days in to your pre op diet to have your pre op appointment. I also was allowed to have SF Jello, SF popsicles and Crystal Light.

Did You Have A Catheter During Your Surguery ?
No. They made me go before surgery. Surgery was only an hour or less.

Not The Daughter My Mother Wished I Would Be
If your insurance requires a psych consult please take advantage of it! As mentioned above your mom has the problem not you. Unfortunately you have been the "target" of your mom's problems. I have always had a good relationship with my mom but not so with my dad. I remember my dad once saying "You know you'd be pretty damn good looking if you lost some weight." My dad also has weight issues and paid for me to do a weight loss program when I was 16/17 (I'm 44 now). I feel like I did it for him. Now it is for me and my health!

Pills
Early on post op I did have to crush my pills. Talk to your doctor before hand. I had some that were extended release so they had to change my prescription so that I was able to crush them.
