Hello Everyone! My name is Emily and I am from the Cincinnati area in Ohio. I am 27 and have struggled with my weight since about the 3rd grade. I've tried many different diets, including South Beach and weight watchers numerous times. I had success at the time with weight watchers but as soon as a fell off the wagon it was all down hill from there. I have always had a problem with eating way too much but the problem is I usually never feel full no matter how much I eat. Like I have always joked with my family and friends I tell them "I have a never ending stomach." Im tired of it though. Im tired of always feeling tired and down on myself. Im tired of the lack of self…

Hello, everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself and say how much I have enjoyed reading the posts of my fellow banders. I had surgery in November, 2010 and from 2011 up until recently, I did not fare so well. We had a lot going on in life and I quickly learned that fast food was not my friend. We also were overwhelmed with selling our house, trying to buy another house and moving so again, turning to fast food because things were in total chaos. Not to mention stress on top of stress! Now, we're settled in our new home and the past few months have been going great! I weighed 212 before surgery. Much to my disappointment (in myself), I had only lost 10 pou…

I have just started to research lapband surgery. I am 61 years old, 5'7" and 280 lbs. I am so tired of living this way. So tired of having to tell my 3 year old granddaughter that "Grammy can't sit on the floor with you to play." ( because it would be so hard to get up). I am a type 2 diabetic ( well controlled on pills), take meds for high blood pressure, and both knees are in terrible shape - getting shots in them every couple of months. My question is, am I too old for this surgery? Most of the posts I have read on this forum are from younger people. Also, I inquired about coverage through my insurance company (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida) and they have said thy …

  16. First off hello! I am new here and I am 5 wks out of my surgery. It has not been fun so far. I had my surgery on July 18, 2012 was in hospital for 4 days and released. I was re-admitted one week later for dehydration for 3 days and than released. To be re-admitted 3 days later for dehydration/dysphagia was in hosp for a week. I can't drink or I am sick or it won't stay down. While in the hospital the last time I had a picc line put in. I have been on TPN now for 2 wks. Still can't get anything down. I have lost 40lbs pre-surgery and now I am gaining weight from TPN. I hope I am not the only one with this problem (not that I would want anyone to suffer like have been)

I had my surgery Sept 25th 2011. I weighed 225. I now weigh 156. For me...it was easy. At first it restricted my eating quite a bit. Now I eat normally. I can eat anything or drink anything I want. I just don't eat the massive amount I used to. I'm still loosing. Not alot, but it is coming off very slowly. I get alot of feedback from people who havn't seen me in a while. Was it worth it. Hell yes! I would be 250 by now If I hadn't done it. Dr. Rodriguez in Mexico was great! I have absolutely ZERO regret, and I never ever got sick, I recommend it for those who feel desperate. That feel they will always be fat. For those that have no self control over quant…

  21. I joined My Fitness Pal about two weeks ago so I could log my food but the daily calorie allowances frustrates me. I am not sure what a banderster's daily allowance should be and it suggests 1950 daily for me based on my height and weight. Does anyone know what calorie range a bandster should be eating a day? I vacillate between 450 and 800 daily, I am afraid to go any higher in fear of my weight loss stalling.

I kind of knew I would have gained weight since last months weigh in due to me quitting smoking 3 weeks ago....gained 7 lbs. But they did say because I just ate and it was a evening appointment and water retention can be part of those lbs. They scheduled my last 2 appointments for September and October so looks like surgery may be in November

I know that you would be risking a lot by having the band removed buy has anyone done it after they reached their goal and maintained it. I understand that we get the band because we cannot control hunger and portions so removing it would make us go back to our old habits but i am just wandering if the months or years of having the band has taught us the discipline to do it on our own. Just wandering

  26. My name is Morgan and I am 22 years old. I have been overweight all my life. I grew up where we would go to burger king about 4 nights a week and on the way to school we would get McDonalds for Breakfast. Once I hit 200 pounds at a very young age I kept telling myself I wouldn't gain anymore weight. Then I would get to 225 and tell myself I would never get to 250. Then I hit 250 and said I would never hit 300 pounds. The huge BUT (not pun intended lol) is I never did anything about the whole losing weight thing. I kept eating the way I did. I was so self conscious and had zero self esteem. I ended up turning to drugs, alcohol, sex, and self harm. I have come a very long w…

This is a question for bandsters that have reached the green zone. I am in early stage of starting my band journey so i am doing a lot of research. One thing i cannot wrap my head around is the meal size of 1 cup. Doctors say that when u have reached the green zone 1 cup of food, when chewed and swallowed properly will make you feel satisfied and full. Can u guys confirm this and tell me if its true or it is exagurated? I just cannot imagine myself feeling satisfied with 1 cup of food with any kind of WLS. I need assurance. Thank u in advance!

I've been considering lap band surgery, but I have some fears. First, I'm 33 yrs old, 5'5" and weigh 235. I'm pretty sure I have sleep apnea, but the rest of my stats are normal (blood work, etc). I'm nervous about having something in my body for my entire life. I realize the lapband can be removed, but it seems as if this isn't an option most ppl take. I'm scared I won't be able to have fun with my friends anymore. I want to be able to go on vacation with my friends and eat some bad food and drink and just be "one of the girls." Will this be over for the rest of my life?? I wonder about the port, too. I like to sleep on my stomach... Would this be weird/uncomfort…

So I just recieved an email from the psych evaluator and she doesn't think the Lapband would be the right choice for me.. Since I would like to lose 100 pounds.. For all of you that have lost 100 or more pounds ... Did you have the lap band or did you do the gastric bypass or sleeve ? I know with all of them it takes a lot of work regardless .. I guess it's just a little dishearting that something I've done research on and that I think would be the best for me is realistically not?

  39. Could someone please explain where I go to upload my b4 & after pics on my profile? I was able to upload a photo but it is showing up as my main photo when I post and I wanted it to be my b4 photo. This is a photo from my heaviest weight from Dec. 2011. I have very few photos of myself at that weight since I avoided cameras but I was with my bff at Melting Pot and she wanted a pic of us. I am almost 60 lbs lighter now & proud of it.

Hi all. I thought I'd share my story. I'm a guy, 38, 5'7", and I was up to about 255 (I stopped weighing myself at that point, so I was probably heavier). I come from a long line of short, fat Italians, so I knew early on that I'd struggle with my weight all my life. This turned out to be quite true. My only saving grace was that I had a "large" frame for my height (according to the doctors' charts). And I was able to gain muscle quite easily as well, which is a trait I share with most of my family. I was skinny until puberty, which is when I became "husky", or "stocky", or as my evil sister would say, "fleshy". If I dieted, I would lose weight, but I found d…
