Hello! I am a thirty-five year old married mommy with two beautiful young daughters. I have been overweight my whole life...of course interwoven throughout the years have been those "miraculous" diets that had me lose a lot(sometimes!) of weight. Then I would gain it all back, and then some. I have just reached that point where I am like "NO MORE!" so therefore I have decided to do the gastric sleeve. I did a lot of research on the types of weight loss surgeries and the sleeve seemed to be the best fit for me.This surgery is for me, my health, my sanity, and also my family. I am still in the process of getting approved by my insurance (bcbs) and have just submitted what i…

Hi! I'm new to this! I'm 27 and in the pre-op stages of surgery. I have my first pre-op nutritionist appt Monday, followed by my psychology appt and a pulmonology appointment the week after. . I had to visit my primary care physician today and he was very discouraging about the surgery. He said studies show only a slight weight loss (he kept mentioning 30-40lbs) with lap band. I am 100% commited to getting surgery but his discouraging visit made me very nervous! My surgeon of course says otherwise but did anyone else find that their Primary care dr was less than encouraging?

If there is anyone from Michigan on this site I would like to share a piece of information with you. On september 22nd there will be a walk for Obesity at potters park zoo in Lansing MI. There is a registration fee but I am not sure how much yet and what time it starts. If anyone that lives close to lansing would like to come please private message me and I can get you more info when I know. This walk for obesity actually gives the proceeds to patients who are overweight and don't have insurance and cannot afford the surgery. Its amazing what they are doing! I have always struggled with weight! I always was the fat child that kids made fun of. When I graduated high school I weighed 140 lbs. Not big right ~ well kids thought I was FAT! Oh how I wish that I weighed that now...that is my goal after I am sleeved! Right before I got pregnant with my son I wieghed 179 and for me that was a nice size - was I happy with that yes but I knew that I could afford to lose some more..then I got pregnant and gained 42 lbs. Lost most of that weight after I had my son due to complications related to my c-section. I was able to maintain my weight at 200, which again I was NOT happy with. In 2010 I got pregnant with my daughter, only ga…

Hey everyone! I'm Jessica. I just got the lapband slapped around my stomach on july 27th. I've all ready had my post-op visit and quite frankly, I'm a bit on the miserable side. For the first few weeks after my surgery I didn't feel hungry. But now that I've healed for the most part, I find myself being constantly hungry. Of course, when I do eat, I'm not eating just a cup of something. It's way more than that. I feel as though I haven't even had the surgery and I'm gaining the 16 pounds I had lost during the liquid phase. Has anyone else gone through this?? I've called my doctor to get a fill (which I am absolutely terrified of) and I have to wait a couple more weeks. …

I received a referral for wls in july/aug of 2011 through kaiser permanente. I was able to start the options classes in september and completed in december. I wasn't able to get in for my mental health evaluation until march, saw the doctor for evaluation (again) until may. After weekly calls I finally got an appointment with the surgeon for today, august 20,2011, a YEAR after referral. I had to get 3 people at work to switch days around and ended up working nights to get to my appointment. Got to the office 20 min early only to be informed that my appointment had been cancelled and I had been notified that morning. WRONG. I was notified, 40 minutes after my appoin…

I have been going through this process for years. Then every time my insurance says they won't approve WLS. So then I chance jobs and supposedly the insurance will pay for it, so I start the process all over again. Just to find out there was an "exclusion" in the policy my company chose. My company had opted out of WLS!!! Myself and many others were devastated. So, I went to HR and fought. Myself and my HR rep fought with corporate of my company. After about a year of fighting my company decided to change insurance companies. So the new company covers WLS and my company chose not to opt out of it!!!! This was like the best news ever! So I waited for the new year to …

HI fellow bandsters to be. I have a question. The medicaly supervised diet that almost all insurances require, is this to be supervised by the surgeons office that will do the surgery or your family doctor? Also, who submits paperwork to insurance, ur fam doc or surgeon? Not sure about all that. I was under the impression that once u go see a surgeon that they take u under the wing and work on everything. Am i wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Thus far, I have been to the 3 hour seminar by the surgeon where he outlined everything and answered questions. He said he only does a sleeve for patients with a BMI over 60. I am only a 39.4, but my family physician is driving hard for the sleeve because with the roux en Y I can't take my time release medications that I need. So she called his office and they are going to leave it up to the insurance company to make the call. The insurance just took out their regulation for a 6 month doctor supervised diet because they realize at this point its a waste of time. So now I have to have 2 appt. with a psychologist and 2 with their dietitian. Those appointments are booked f…

I made the decision to do this for myself and my family. I am married to a wonderful man, Brian, who is in the Air Force, and we have four beautiful daughters- Kayla 11, Isabelle 7, Madilyn 2, and Zoe 1. I am done having kids now, so there are no more excuses for me not to loose the pounds. My husband has a hard time with his annual PT tests, and our 11 year old is going down the same path I did as a child, so I am hoping that by changing my lifestyle, it will reflect on my family as…

Hi everyone, my name is Monica. I will become a new bandster on tomorrow August 15th with Dr. Vincent Lusco of Lou. KY. My Highest weight was 445 and with eating 5x per day and working out at least 4x per week, I dropped down to 395. I've been contemplating weight loss surgery for the last 3 years but hadn't pursued it because of fear. Im 31 y.o. and I now fear that if I keep this weight it will most definitely shorten my life. I have been seeing a nutritionist for the past 4 months and its just plain hard to lose weight. I have been eating like once or twice a day for the past 10 years and I gained a ton of weight. It really didn't help with me doing that after m…

I had surgery on July 30th and now feel as if I never had it at all with the exception of eating small amounts of mushie food. For anyone that is wondering if plication is painful I would say not any more than the band because my pain was minimal for a few days. I weighed in today at 13lbs lost and my blood sugars are great. I am so glad I added the plication option was totally worth the extra money!

I'm 28. 402lbs, size 28-30 pants. I am treated for HTN, PCOS, Depression/Anxiety, Arthritis. Regardless of all of that demographic info you would never know it bothered me. I love myself as I am now, but love myself enough to know I want to live a happy active life and dieting yoyos have done nothing but get me sick, cause stomach/intestinal issues. I work full time and have a small business on the side, a hustle of you will, of selling handmade items from cards to jewelry. I want to be married on a beach and have children. I have been through this situation of getting surgery 3x. I was 17 the first time and insurance approved but surgeons in Indiana would not do it. Then…

Hi everyone... I'm new to this site. My name is Patti. I have not had my lap band surgery yet but i am scheduled to have it Sept. 10, 2012. I am growing more and more nervous and anxious as the day comes closer. I can't wait to have the lap band surgery done and get on my way to a new life. I however am very nervous at the same time. So I thought I would look for a site like this where I could get some support and advise on do's and don'ts and get some help learning how to eat healthier. Well I hope to meet some great people and get some much needed advise. Thanks in advance.

Hello all, As of 10:00 a.m. Wednesday I joined many of you on the loser's bench! I thought I would share some details of my experiences up to this point. First, your nurses and support staff are CRITICAL in making the process - you may want to take this into account when choosing a surgeon. I wrote "thank you" notes for the surgeon, the anethesiologist, and the nurses and gave them out before my surgery. I wanted them to know how much I was excited about my new start and that I was counting on them. The day of the surgery was the worst, but mostly because I was so "out of it". The pain was well controlled, and I even managed to get a walk in that day; the ice chips …

Hi Everyone, If you are sitting out there with a lot of questions like I was 4 years ago, I want to tell you that I was 63 when I had my surgery in Mexicali, with Dr. Aceves—I believe he is the very best you can find to do your surgery. I lost 105 pounds and YES I have kept it off for 3 years now. It took me 14 months to lose 105 pounds. My ONLY regret is that I didn’t have it done sooner. It is unquestionably the very greatest thing I have ever done for myself! I will be honest and tell you that the 1st month after surgery will be the hardest month you will ever have to do. During the 1st month you will be making lifestyle changes, letting your body heal, and start…

Good morning all! I am 27 yo and confused at this point. FIrst, I started off wanting this procedure done.. Then my surgeon said by my bmi being 57 I wouldn't lose what I want so he suggested the gastric sleeve. I have read about how hard it is to drink and as a result being dehydrated, dumping and all that. Is there anyone on here who had the lap band with a bmi over 55? If so, how is it working out for you?

Tomorrow is my 1 week post op doctor's appointment. Surgery went smoothly and I haven't had problems so far. I have soreness at the incision site of the port, but other than that I feel good. That is, physically. Emotionally, I feel like it's another story. I feel sad. I have no idea why. I am already bored and tired of the full liquid diet. Soup/broth, sf pudding, sf Jello, Protein shakes. I am frustrated to the point of crying. I'm also questioning if I can actually DO this. I just feel like such a wreck.

I just had my 4 year anniversary in July. When I had my surgery I was young and it was two weeks after my Dad died. I also went though a divorce within 6 months of having the surgery. I am not making excuses but I can honestly say now that I want in the right mindset for the surgery. I am now 37lbs heavier than my lowest. And I cannot seem to get the weight to come off. I am very discouraged.

I am just about 16 months post op and down 136 lbs! I was banded April 27, 2011. I wish I would have found these forums sooner so many great tips and suggestions. Is there anyone out there who can recommend a good eating plan? I am high protein low carb right now but I feel like I am lacking variety and spinning my wheels since there are quite a few things that are harder for me to get down. Anything anyone has tried that works well and also things that I should avoid. Thanks!
