I am a mother of 2 beautiful daughters and a wife to a wonderful husband. I am 42 yr old and weigh 252. I dont feel "fat" or I should say I didnt feel like that until I saw a picture of myself sitting in a chair on a fishing trip . I had kidney cancer in 2004 and had to have my right kidney removed. I have a few cyst that come and go on my pancreas ( not cancer) , and this is when I decided that I want to have the lap band done and get my weight and health in control. I have been through alot during the past 10 yrs. I lost my brother in 06 and then my mother committed suicide in 2011. I have been over weight for probably 20 yrs or so . I decided that I WANT TO LIVE!!! so…

  7. Hello to everyone on this journey! I have read many stories here and I am very hopeful now in my journey. I had my first meeting with the caseworker and nutritonist today. I have my first meeting with Dr. Metz on Sept 19th. I was very down after my meeting today because the nutritionist said that very few lapband diabetics get off insulin and meds. I want to lose weight but I really want to get my diabetes under control and off meds if possible. After reading the stories here, I am more sure I want the band instead ob bypass which is what she stated is best for diabetics. I have DM2, hypertension, fibromyalgia, exercise indused asthma, and a BMI near 40. I have a Vitamix …

Surgery 8/23 all is well. I have six incisions need to have staples out next week. How will this go what should I be prepared for? No nausea, no dumping, no problems...praise God!!! I am experiencing this tightness, could this be from the surgery? I always feel like there is a pull a tightness. Anyone else experienced this? Outside of this nothing else.

Hello everyone! I am getting banded on the 6th. I am very excited. Even though I will still be on a liquid diet for two weeks after, I am hoping it will be a bit easier than the pre-op liquid diet. I am on day 5 of 11, and I am still hungry much of the time, although, I am happy to be past the initial headaches. (They lasted the first three days). On a positive note, I am completely off of my insulin based on my blood sugars being back to normal just from the liquid diet! I will still have to monitor closely for a while, but one of my biggest goals was to get off some of these diabetic meds, so things are looking up. Good luck to all of you on your personal journe…

I had surgery on 2/22/10. I lost 60lbs. 40lbs before hand so a total of 100. But, I started slipping up, and drinking and eating anything I want. I am now passed the 18 month window of losing the most weight. I am trying all these crash diets hoping to get back on track. Nothing seems to work. I am on day 3 now of no drinking. Trying to vut out carbs again. Feeling sad mostly cause I feel little restriction. I know I have stretched my sleeve. I still cant eat like I could Pre-op, but I definitely do not eat like someone who has had 80% of her stomach removed. I feel I am going into these diets a huge failure. I had surgery just to still have the same issues I did before? …

Hi, I have just discussed the lap band surgery with my primary doctor. To my surprise he told me he has been banded, so has his wife and sister and mother! He said I qualify as my bmi is 36. I am covered by my insurance but I have to call to check the requirement s. My dilema is this, I'm 40 next month. It took us 6 years to have a baby, we did several rounds of ivf. My weight was not a factor for my infertility. My son is now 15 months. We have frozen embryos which I want to use but I feel like my time to have a successful pregnancy is running out. Do I get a lap band, lose weight and try to get pregnant 12 months after? Or get pregnant in the next few months and r…

Everyone seems so nice and positive as well as full of information. I recently contacted a surgeon who mailed me a questionerre I had to fill out and they will contact me with an appointment once the doctor has looked over my info. It feels like its taking forever! I just want to get the ball rolling. I look forward to hearing everyone's story.

Well honestly I'm not sure how I feel right now. My surgery was scheduled for next Thursday. I've been jumping through their hoops, lost over the 40% they wanted me to. Today I have my pre op appointment. They drew labs, prescribed all the thing I'm going to need to take afterwards, even talked to the anestesalogist. Just for the to tell me that the psych doesn't think I'm ready. I feel like I failed. I feel like I'm letting my husband and son down. I feel like this was my last chance. I just hope my work doesn't decide to be douches about the time I need off.

I've got 6 holes like a race track across my gut that seem to b healing just fine. I have pooed which I was really scared of since I had such a hard time with my kids then my hysterectomy. I have totally been following drs orders to the T. I have been drinking my protein, taking my BP, diabetes, cholesterol, thyroid and anti depressant meds right on schedule. I think that is the worst for me cuz they taste like crap! But I'm 50 + 2 so I've done some damage. I am excited to start this 3rd act of my life. So many changes all the way around. …

  34. I started gaining weight 5 years ago....and gaining fast. I put on 130 lbs in a little over 2 years. I had myself medically checked for everything. Every test to diagnose something that would cause such dramatic weight increase came back negative. I was so frustrated for a couple of years. I wanted the docs to find something wrong with me medically, then say here is a pill and you'll be back to your 130lb figure. No such luck! I finally had to come to terms with the obvious. I turned 30 (slower metabolism) ate crappy fast food daily, Stopped exercising, and was extremely stressed at work. Yikes by the time I snapped to reality and tried to change my behavior, I …

  38. Feeling energized and renewed. I had surgery two years ago and only lost 40 pounds. Having been in an abusive relationship didn't allow me to work on me, now that I am out, I feel like I can finally work on me. Everyone's posts give me inspiration and motivation that I can do this. I recently learned I was banded too tightly and caused my esophagus to dilate and had fluid removed. I am seeing my dr in two days and hope all is well and can get a fill, as I get soooo hungry and have no restriction. Went from .7 to .4, big reduction. 39. Hello! I found this forum when doing some on-line research. I am only now starting to think about having this surgery. A few years ago my primary doc brought it up, but I left it on the back burner. I have a new doc now and am nervous to even bring it up to her. I have been up and down with my weight....I lose some and gain it back. One time I managed to lose 100# over the course of a year or 2 but it slowly started creeping back on and now I am about 20# less than my starting weight from that time. But now I have more health issues that I am not even sure would preclude me from the surgery. Because of having RA I take a lot of meds, plus fibromyalgia and bipolar disea…

( already have been) I understand that within the first five to six months it is normal to lose up to 60% of your extra weight. The bummer is that on my two week check up I was down 26. And now at 6weeks im only down 38. Everything slowed. But I feel great. I did have a stall. Maybe it's still lingering. My dr said my goal should be 100lbs.
