Hi all, I'm 193 lbs, 5'4, bmi 33. I'm on the fence about getting the lapband. These are my concerns... 1. Complications. They say lapband is forever but does anyone know anyone who has had the band for a long time? > 20 years? 2. If for some reason I need to take the band out, will I gain back the weight quickly? The doctor I spoke to said yes you will definitely gain the weight back if you get it taken out. This is actually my biggest concern. 3. I feel guilty... Like I'm taking the easy route. 4. I'm self pay. If I have future complications will my insurance pay for it? Any advice? Thanks, Laurie

I am scheduled to start pre-op next week for a 9/27 surgery date. I have a very supported wife who has been with me through my weight struggled for almost 30 years. I was all set to be banded but I am now thinking about the sleeve. I have been told I am a good candidate for both. I know four banders, three with complications and one with none, all who have lost a significant amount of weight but did it in their 40's. I want to be done with my lifelong struggles with weight issue. I know either path has challenges and takes hard work. I want to lose without the stuck feeling and other complications.

I'm christina, 21 years old and a correctional nurse here in good ole virginia. Ive been overweight ever since I can remember. Both my brother and mom had gastric bypass in which wasn't that much of a success! I've known about the lapband but just got insurance recently, so I'm proceeding to make an appointment with the surgeon. I'm not insecure about my body but want to be healthy for when I have kids! I can't be a nurse and tell someone else they.need.to loose weight when I'm overweight myself. Right now I'm at 270, big.but beautiful!

I have only been thinking about having they Gastric Bypass the last couples months & I'm still researching it. I have decided it is the best procedure for me, but have to wait to receive my compensation from my accident to pay for my bypass, which will cost me £10, 000.00 I look forward to meeting new & existing users on here & hearing your stories with an…

Well here is my story: I went to TJ for my surgery as planned on 6/25. The hospital was super nice and I met the doctors and the staff who were all extremely well spoken and explained everything for me. I got settled into my room and they started my IV and took my blood samples for my blood tests. The anesthesiologist came in to explain her portion and we went over my medical history and current and past medications from the year. All I had left to do was my EKG. I asked the anesthsiologist if she could give me something for nerves and she said sure she had her bag with her and I clarified that it would not interfere with the EKG I was going to have she assured me it wo…

I went to my consultation yesterday 9/7/12. My surgeon explained all the WLS options to me and although the RNY would almost guarantee more weight loss I was still adamant about the sleeve. Surprisingly, my surgeon agreed with me. He said that I should do just fine with the sleeve and he was as happy as I was with my decision. I was also pleased that he took all of my concerns and questions into consideration and included my husband in the conversation. I also respected him for asking me what my ideal weight was versus the ideal BMI. I said about 180 is my goal. He said 140 is your ideal weight but you would look sick at 140 so 180 is great for you and should cure the h…

SO I had my sleeve done yesterday morning, just went for my upper GI leak test, except the liquid isn't moving , I have to go back in an hour. has this happended to anyone? Does this mean I have a leak? I mean I feel okay, sore and gassy, but I've been walking and going up and down stairs, I don't want to have a leak:(. They said that when you haven't eaten and drank in a while that sometimes it takes a whole for the digestive track to wake up... Has this happened to anyone? I'm so nervous. And I wanted to go home today and idk if it's happening now

Glad to have found this community. This is something I've been putting off for a while. Pre-op I had the jitters, ran to the bathroom twice and almost ran out of the room because I was so nervous. I got some good anesthesia that put me out for longer than 3 hours. Looking for some people to share the journey and learn from the experience. So far feeling a lot better than day one, minus the gas. The hiccups hurt. I am tired of the liquid diet, my doctor wasn't as strict as others so I've read.

I have unitd health care and really hope they cover the surgery. Do you think I'm a good candidate?i really believe this would improve my way of life and maybe all…

Hi All, I'm new to the forum & need a little encouragement & support to keep me on track. I recently went to see my PCP and she suggested that I have the lap band surgery due to the numberous health concerns that have came about over the past few years due to the large amount of weight that I have gained. At first I was upset that she even suggested that I have the surgery but after I thought about these last few years and how much weight I have & all my health problems I decided that she was right & I needed to start taking this big weight gain seriously. I'm 34 with 2 kids and I am the biggest I've been in my entire life even while pregnant. I am reall…

I had the lap band about a year ago and lost about 70 pounds, recently the band slipped and I had to have to emptied so I have already gained back 30. My surgeon wants to take my band out and recommends the sleeve and I want to do something but I'm scared of the sleeve! I want to know what the recovery was like, how long you were off work (I'm a teacher), and if you would do it again.

I have been really bad lately. My diet is poor and I've not exercised in over a week, I think. I need to lose 17 lbs for surgery and I don't think I've lost one lb yet and this process started at the end of July. Tonight I'm going grocery shopping for the week and I'm going to get my protein drinks also. I plan on starting my 1500 cal diet that my NUT gave me, tomorrow and start walking again. I was doing so good but then just quit like I always do when I lose a little. Please help me get this started and to stick with it so I can have surgery. I need someone to tell me to knock it off and get busy!! Although my mom and husband are good at that I just don't listen when t…

So today I was informed that at work we are doing buffalo bills casual Friday! Which means I had to go out and buy something with bills on it! I went to target and instantly went to the plus sizes. Tried on a few that were huge on me! So then I went to the normal section and I was able to buy an XL shirt! I cant believe how far I've come in less than 3 months! This is def my motivation to get my butt to the gym!
