1. Started by Readytolose2012,

My surgery was last Friday 8/31/12 and I am waiting on the airplane to take me back home. My flight is delayed so I decided to write about my experience. I have come to realize that my journey may be somewhat out of the norm. I am 55 years (come this Sat) I had a BMI of 30 and I went to Mexico for my surgery. The thing I have in common with most of you is that I have been on the diet roller coaster for years. Lose 20 gain 25, over and over for the last 10 years or so. At my highest I was 205, when I decided to have the surgery I had just put back on the 20 I had lost on the HCG injections putting me at 196. So with a BMI of 30 weighing 196 and having high blood pressu…

Hi. I've been reading all the posts on this site for the past few days and am feeling absolutely inspired. I'm considering getting the lap band now that I have reached a personal high in my weight. I don't need to tell you all that I've been through cause it's the same story as many of you have. I've always fought this battle and this year I believed I was making some big changes but instead gained 30 lbs! I work out constantly, eat normally, but I've always struggled and now after having my son at 40, I just can't do this anymore. I try so hard for nothing! I just can't let this weight creep up any farther. I'm my pregnancy weight at 9 mo. ! 200 lbs. that was such a s…

Just wanted to say hello! I'm new and just had surgery in Tijuana. I tried insurance but all bariatric surgery is excluded! I went to Mexico for the same reason as most everyone else that went there did. I couldn't afford surgery in the good 'ol US of A! I'm just so happy it's all done and I'm excited to start losing, get healthy and can't wait to buy new skinny clothes!

Started this process in April 2012. My Dr is Ronnie Keith with owlo in oklahoma city. My ins is covering most of the surgery. And I'm scheduled to have surgery Sept 17! I'm doing a 10 day pre-op diet and I just cheated and totally regret it! All my pre-op dieting has made me sensetive to foods! I think its good. Know not to cheat after. Been doing a lot of reading and watching videos. I started at 255, have gained 10 lbs and started preop diet at 266. I think its my psych meds. Well see.

I had my gastric sleeve done Wednesday the 5th and I feel great. Was a little dizzy when I woke up but after that nothing. To be honest, I didn't believe they did it if not for the little strips on my stomach. I have no gas pain or anything. Also got down 12 ozs of liquids yesterday. It took all day but I got it down. I already walked around my hospital floor 3X's this morning and .took in 2ozs of Water so far. Hopefully I will be released today or tomorrow.

So, I have been lurking around here for a while.......Reading up on as much info as possible. Back when I was gun ho about getting the sleeve done my insurance did not cover the sleeve only the gastric bypass, which I did not want. I have recently begun to look into the sleeve again. We are less than 6 month away from revising our insurance plan. We keep the same insurance but we are able to choose different plans to fit our needs. I had talked with my hubby to change it to the best plan for where they will pay 100% on most. The plan I have now I had to come up with 6000 dollars which was impossible. The good news is I just got off the phone with my surgeons offic…

I am having my surgery with Dr Nick on the 11th and I am on the 2 week 1200 calorie pre-op diet and it is sooooo hard. If the shakes were better, then it wouldn't be so bad, but it is hard to get those BA shakes down without gagging towards the end. At least the bars are somewhat tastier. I stay hungry thoughout the day, my mind thinking of all the "good" food out there. Any suggestions on those nasty shakes?

I have really been suffering the ill effects of my large hiatal hernia. Did months of tests and then sent to general surgeon. He wanted me to lose 100-120 lbs prior to surgery. Went to seminar to learn about bariatric surgery. I will have my hernia repaired and my sleeve at the same time. On my 2 week pre surgery liquid diet. I do well with the calories, but struggling to not go over in protein. Surgery on the 17th. Have 2 friends at work that have had the sleeve (one in Dec and 1 last month). Went to monthly support group and the friend a month out from surgery was the one everyone wanted to talk to.

Just a few months away from "being sleeved"....I know that this is something that I need, but at the same time, I feel that it is a little drastic. I have exhausted so many other options and i just feel helpless and hopeless and the thought that this is someting that might work for me (providing I dedicate myself to doing it right) is so exciting! I wish that I could just take this lightly and act like it doesn't make me a little nervous, but that would be completely untrue! This is a full-on life change! It changes the way you eat, the way you live, the way you look, the way you feel physically, the way you feel about yourself emotionally...and so many other things, not …

Yup, I put 6 pounds back on. Am I upset? Nope. I know what I've been doing: squats, push-ups, bodyblade: http://www.bodyblade.com/en/, 1 hour walking a day. No change in diet. My exercise routine had been put off long enough. I knew that I lost some muscle mass during my rapid loss and that getting it back would tip the scales. I anticipated gaining; muscles weigh more than fat but take up less space. I look good...actually better. Health and energy are the primary goals. Looking good sneaks in there too. I will not allow myself to be oppressed by the slandering, digital indicator under my feet!

  38. 3 weeks ago I express posted my 'release of supperannuation on compassionate medical grounds' forms to DHS for approval. Within a week and a half I received my approval letter. The next day I express posted the application form for my super fund along with my approval letter to my super fund. I received the full amount for my surgery in my bank account this morning. The whole approval and release (I'm my case) took just over 3 weeks. I hope other sleevers have as much luck with it as I did.

I'm 21 years old, 330 pounds and 5'3". Am I too heavy for surgery? I'm thinking of considering lapband surgery but my psychiatrist says that I need to get stable mentally first before I can consider surgery. I have schizoaffective disorder, bipolar subtype. I've been doing better psychologically the last two months than before. Psychiatrist says she'll give me clearance but not just yet. Can anyone relate to the "being too heavy" part? Thanks, Liz

I have one of the few insurances that doesn't have the 6 months worth of weigh ins and tests that need to be done. I made an appt with my regular care physician for later this month. Waiting for the number for a Psych Eval. Once I get the release from my doc and the Pysch Eval, it will only take a few weeks for the Ins Co to turn it over. So, it should be around the end of next month - into October that I'll have it done. I've heard nothing but good things about the sleeve. My cousin has ha…

Haven't had a minute since I got back to work to report on my first post-op doctor follow up. My doctor is happy with my progress and the way everything is healing. He checked my port site, asked how I was feeling, told me I can go back to the gym (as long as I wait a couple more weeks to start the core exercises), I should start solid food this weekend and he'll see me in 2 weeks for my first fill. He did tell me my port is a little deeper than they normally place them and that they might need the x-ray machine to fill it, but he said it isn't a big deal. I'm happy that I'm down 15.5 pounds from my first visit to his office (June 22) and 12 pounds from the date of surger…
