I've been going through this weight loss journey for years, and after seeing a few of my co-workers and the success they've had with it I decided to research it....boy oh boy did I get excited!! Now after 6 months of supervised dietitian visits and psychologist visits and a bunch of doctors visits I finally have my surgery date. I had to wait a month because I was taking birth control pills and they wanted me to stop taking them a month before surgery...no problem with me. I get my call today and my surgery is scheduled for October 16th, I am so excited and very ready to start being a happier healthier me!!!

Got my date for surgery...October 15th! They called me this morning at work to set it all up. Dr. Voellinger had actually approved me to only have to do one week of pre-op diet and could have had my surgery next Tuesday, which would have been awesome only having to do one week and then getting to have it so soon, but I just couldn't do that to my peeps at work. Also, my husband will want to take off 2 days for my surgery too, and that is short notice for him too. And my mother is going to come and stay with me for a few days after I am home, and I thought giving her a little notice would be a fine idea too So, I am having it the day after my 25th year high school reuni…

Hi, i'm new to this site and I have a lot of questions before I get my lap band! Yesterday I completed my nutrition appointment, EKG testing, and pulminary testing. Everything looked good! My stats: Height: 4'11" Weight: 198.5 Jeans/pants: 16 Shirts: XL Jacket:XXL The questions I have are: Is recovery very difficult? How often do you throw up or does food get stuck on lap band? What does it feel like when your band is too tight? How much weight can I expect to lose? What foods can I not eat? Thanks in advance!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the site, and have honestly not really come out yet to many people that I am getting "banded" so this is a huge step for me to be taking and sharing my story. I was always a bit bigger growing up, although I have had some weight issues I was able to maintain a healthy size in my later teens. But once I hit my 20s and got pregnant things started to change drastically. I put on about 100lbs during pregnacy, and after things started going down hill... I gained more and have over doubled my size since before pregancy. I have tried everything from fad diets, to Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers. I'm a regular at the gym and have to be in somewhat good s…

Hi everyone. New here but am just feeling very lonely, scared, anxious. Wondered if anyone else has ridden this roller coaster ride of emotions? I had Lapband surgery on 9-11-12 and the whole 6 month preop process I was so excited and determined and convinced that THIS is the solution I've been looking for! So for months my mind & heart have been in overdrive just dreaming all the new things I will finally be able to experience when I lose weight. The list is gigantic and full of dreams both large and small, since even though I'm 34 and have lived life a huge girl I have managed to be invisible for quite some time. Funny, that. Of course, this is my fault too I know…

Hello Everyone! My name is Jordan and I am brand new to this site and in the pre-op stages still. My husband and I are actually going through this together! It's just the 2 of us in the house, and it seems like the perfect time and scenario to do this. We started our journey in March, attending an information session and started our waiting period/pre-op diet and other appointments in June. We just finished up all of our pre op appointments will have everything submitted to insurance hopefully this week! Waiting on pins and needles! I started at my heaviest about 5 years ago, weighing in at 363. I had lost about 20 lbs back then and have maintained that for 5 years. Durin…

Had my sleeve done on 09/12/12. I lost 11 pounds Pre op and have lost an additional 14 since. My i weighed 340 on May 22,12 which is the day that my wife had Gastric Bypass. When I couldn't walk 50 feet on level ground without getting chest pain or short of breath it was so aggravating. I started watching my calories then. Lost a total of 31 pounds. I had my initial consult for a sleeve in February of this year. It's been quite a journey thus far. I weighed 318 for my consult then gained 22 pounds then lost 31 before I signed my surgical consents. When I started my Pre op I weighed 312 day of surgery I weighed 306 and at 6 days post op weight is 292. I must say to step …

I have been looking into weight loss surgery for about have 6 months. I first decided I would get the lap band because it could be reversed and there was no radical surgery.I started on that cite and really liked it. I made my appointment with the bariatric surgery department and they let me know right off that they were not to gung ho on the lap band. I won't go into all the reasons but when I left my first appointment I knew I no longer wanted that surgery but still was not sure about gastric bypass. I have to be on a supevised diet for six month. The first month went well and I lost 10 pounds then I started to think maybe I could do this on my own. Now at three m…

Ok this is my first post, let me start by saying, thanks to everyone on here, for sharing the stories and the helpfull information. I sure did a lot of reading the month before my surgery, and this last week post op. Surgery was 9-11-12 was set up for 7 am, but something came up and I didn't,t go into surgery till around twelve. Was in surgery almost two hours, then to recovery for I really don,t know how long, but got into my room around 4 pm. I really just started waking up when I made it to my room, and boy was I nausea, I remember telling the nurse I need something for nausea right now, and she gave me something, was not but a few minutes and I was out sleeping again…

Hello! My name is Melissa and I'm from New Jersey. I've been struggling with my weight since college and finally decided to do something about it. I'm 32 and I have two small children who I would like to keep up with! My BMI is about a 35, and I have sleep apnea and depression. Ive tried diet and exercise but nothing seems to work for me. I'm going to a seminar on Tuesday and I am so scared. I'm scared about the pre-op diet, the surgery itself, post-op, EVERYTHING! I'm wondering what holidays will look like after I've had the surgery.... Will I be sitting in the corner with some applesauce while everyone is enjoying the turkey and stuffing?? I love food!!! I guess I could…

I have my appointment with my pcm on Oct. 10th. I have attempted weight watchers and welbutrin without success and mycomorbid issues are depression and fibromyalgia with a BMI of 41.1. I also recently had a mass discovered on my ovary which is why I'm waiting until the 10th so we can discuss the results of the pelvic ultrasound. I'm anxious to know how the process works to get the referral for the surgeon. I'm at Ft. Campbell and the surgeon is on post but I worry the mass may not allow me to have the lapband procedure. I'm really interested in other folks experiences. Thanks

Hello Everyone. I have spend a good amount of time reading various posts on the forum, so I am really pleased to have found this community. I am a 41 year old male, current weight is 272, and my height is 72.5 inches. I have been heavy all my life, and yo-yo dieted many times. I am very disciplined when I diet, and ultra strict. So I tend to lose weight and then when I go off my diet, all hell breaks lose, and I gain back weight rapidly. Its embarrassing as you may know to be the toast of the office when you lose a lot of weight, and then when you start gianing it back.... My father died at 62 from heart disease, and he was diabetic, and suffered from depressio…

Hello All, I was banded on 3-24 in Durham, NC by Dr. Portenier. Prior to surgery he told me about Gastric Plication and told me that I could have that done at the same time as the band. I opted to do it. Kinda like 2 WLS in one. Just wondering if anyone else did this?? If so what your experiences thus far have been? I felt absolutely awful the first week after surgery. A lot of gas on my chest, shoulder pain, nauseous constantly and many, many esophageal spasms. The 7th day was much better and I have felt more normal. I'm not doing so great at sticking to the all liquid diet for 3 weeks. I have had some mushy Proteins. Like cottage cheese and refried Beans. …

Hello,:-) today is my first day on this. I've been reading a lot of the posting and find them very helpful and very interesting. I'm learning how to use it so please be patient with me. :-) So here I am. My starting weigh 347 lbs. My surgery was on August 28,2012 and I'm feeling great! Yes it was hard to lose the weigh before surgery but I did it cause I was determine to get this done. I lost 30 pounds in 3 months. :-) Then after surgery I lost 13 more. I was in the hospital 2 days and I never felt any pain. I felt sorness but no pain. But I made sure to press that button every time that light turn on. So it was time to go home now. My sister picked me up and to…

Hi, I am new to the lap band community. I am going to my first appointment with my surgeon tomorrow. I am very excited. I have completed 5 months of my 6 month pre-op diet. I have all my paperwork in order. My question is...what's next? Do the doctors go ahead and get the insurance to pre-approve the surgery or does all of the 6 month diet info have to be on file? I want to be banded in November over Thanksgiving Holidays, do you think this is possible? (I am a teacher) Will I beable to go back to work after one week? Thanks for answering my questions!

Hey everyone I'm Kelly I'm 23 from Ohio. I'm scheduled to have my bypass surgery on September 10 at 10:30 in the morning at Akron city hospital!! I'm really not scared or nervous as much as I am excited. For the past few years I have struggled with a bad addiction to food. I was filling gaps in my life by eating horrible foods. After seeking help from an emotional eating counselor and the help of the bariactric team at summa hospital I began my journey last October and decided to undergo laparoscopic rny gastric bypass and I couldn't be happier with my decision. A woman in my pre operative exercise class recommended this app as a way to reach out and meet people that…

So far I have all the preoperative test in, I just have to see the psychiatrist. And hope the surgeon Has all the clearances. I am hoping to go into surgery by November or December. I have lost a Lot of weight with the lap band, however, I still need to go much further. I have had some problems with the band, which may have helped cause my Barrett's esophagus. My biopsy came back negative for cancer, thank God. I am looking foward to continuing my journey toward better health. After all, I have so much to live for. I know I must wait for the approval of the insurance company, but, I don't see them denying the surgery. I'm sure my surgeon will fight on my behalf to help me…

My best-friend and I sadly had to part ways. You see...it was love at first sight, we would always end up at the same places, make hasty decisions, I used my best friend as a clutch to console me when I was down, my best friend was at every celebration and I just couldn't break free. I became depressed, my pressure was out of control, I stayed in bed feeling guilty because we would spend entirely too much time together. I went to counseling to seek advice and basically this relationship was literally KILLING me and my docs at the VA said enough is enough. I was told that I needed to get a "Best-Friend Ectomy"! I began to reminisce on all the times we shared and how the …

Ok so I have lost 3.2 pounds of the 5 I have to lose by the 24th. Which is good buttt. My appointment is I'm the evening and I am weighing in the morning when I wake up and after an hour I will get back in and weigh 2 pounds more. So I am not sure if I have lost anything. Being all said this is making me think I have to lose way more then the 5 pounds so it will show up as 5 pounds at weigh in. What I have been doing is I reduced my calorie intake from 1500 to 1200 and upped exercise to be burning at least 700 calories a day. What can I change or do different to lose this weight in 10 days??

Decided in June that I'm going to do the surgery. Since then I have done SO much research I feel as though I'm a pro already lol. This board has been amazing and makes me so excited. I found out insurance is covering it 100% except a $35 copay and a surgeons fee of $350. Their requirements are cardiology clearance, lung test, psych evaluation and 6 months worth of weigh ins. I got clearance from all already and have my 2nd weigh in tomorrow. 4 more to go. Last one will be mid January. In the meantime I'm trying to lose as much as possible but I'm going to enjoy the hell out of Thankgiving & Christmas this year. I'm thinking surgery will be in February, and it can't co…

It's weird I went from barely losing a pound a week to one to two pounds a day!! It's nice but weird I barely get in the calories and protein... I think anyways been slacking lately on keeping track. It's nice I'm losing weight but losing hair also. Which usually means not enough protein right? But one more pound till fifty lost and that'll probably be when I wake up in the morning. Lol I haven't been this weight since I got married and that is five yrs today!!! Wow! What a Rollar coaster but so happy!! Been drinking to Igor so probably all over the place but just some things on my mind lol everyone have a great night!!

I woke up today so mad at myself, well first let me say this is day seven of my liquid diet, & I have been very good I have not cheated. Now I guess my subconscious mind wants to start messing with me, I had a dream that I made some steaks for my son & I. I mean they were perfect, let me tell u I woke up licking my lips I swear for a minute there I could really taste it, then I instantly became mad till I realized it was JUST A DREAM. So as I sit here sipping on my shake I think "it was good while it lasted, but im happy it was not real".

Concerned about the diet b4 the surgery. Worried about the diet after surgery. I've attended support groups n know what to expect, it still doesn't make it any easier.
