Update from sleeve surgical procedure. Doing just fine, pre-op weight 300 lbs., post-op 185, sometimes it hops up to 190, but in time it usually drops down to 185. I am on the road 80 percent of the time, which makes it very difficult to adjust to my new lifestyle of eating. Considering getting a portable hot plate or an induction cooker. Places with stoves are best, then I can prepare the foodstuff. Energy has improved, don't always feel tired like I use to, have vigor and get-up-and-go on most days. In-so-far as health and wellness, blood pressure very good, diabetes exceedingly good, gout gone, elevated cholesterol, prostate trouble that's gone too, and don't ha…

Hi I am very new to learning about the sleeve. I had the band done in about 2005, then had 2 revisions. Still no success. Debating on whether or not to go to the sleeve. My Drs of choice so far are Dr. Jay, Dr Kim or Dr Nick. Any preferences?

Yesterday I went to my Cardiologist appt. I thought this is it, great! My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 9th. The doc took a look at my med history and my family's med history and scheduled me for a stress test. I know he is taking precautions but I feel frustrated. I want to get this over and done with already. I have been prepping since the beginning of May. I did more than what was asked of me and yet I feel like I am in limbo and that this extra appt will only delay things for me. I just want to fast forward time already. I want to scream!!!

Hi, I'm Shirley and I'm new here. I have just had my pre-surgery consultation with my surgeon and he has scheduled my surgery for October 15, 2012. My insurance company has required me to jump throught all sorts of hoops since February and I think everything is now done and I can get approved. Keep your fingers crossed for me if you would. I've just posted my profile here and I'm looking for a support buddy. I want to find someone who is at about the same spot or slightly ahead of me so that we can talk about concerns we have with the surgery. I'm having the RNY and know I will have all kinds of questions. I live in Hot Springs, Arkansas and it would be great if …

I've been on my liquid diet for 22 days now and I realized that I was somewhat of a human garbage disposal I found myself yelling at my kids for tryna feed me their food then I realized they are doing what they have always done. Nothing with them has changed but now that I'm changing I have seen some of my bad habits and they all have to END NOW.

Finally everything was falling in place for me to be able to send my papers in to start my VSG proceedures. I was getting excited for that first meeting with the surgeon but first I had an appointment with my cardiologist. At first I had my EKG and the tech looked at it, excused herself then came back a little later. The doctor came in and I was telling him that I was planning on VGS surgery. He shook his head and said, "Let's see what is going on here first." I do have Afib and lately have been getting more out of breathe. It is hard for me to walk 10-15 feet sometimes without stopping to catch my breathe. Now we are looking at echocardiograms and stress test for ju…

Hi All I'm so excited. I passed me psych eval and got word from my insurance today. I am approved for surgery! Hooray! My next step is a group consult on the 23rd. It feels more real now. I hope to be able to have surgery in December. I will have about three weeks off of work. I can't wait to get started on my new life. I do have a few worries, as all of you likely did, or do. 1. Will I miss food? I have read that it often becomes a chore to eat. That seems so strange to me preop. Food has a hold on me. Sometimes I feel like I am so impulsive. I can't control myself. I'm not even necessarily enjoying eating. It is just what I do. I will need to tota…

Hello! I'm new to this forum and I am VERY excited about my upcoming surgery. I am also very excited because I will be a grandma (Mima) for the first time in November. Right now my concerns are the protein shakes. I am not lactose intolerant but I DON"T LIKE MILK! If anyone has any suggestions of any protein that will not be milk based I would appreciate it! Thanks!!

Here is a question to the moms out there, especially moms of small kids/babies. I have been contemplating getting the sleeve and have my consultation on the 20th. I have a 6yr old, 4yr old and a 3 month old. I have been struggling my whole life with weight and have had enough. My biggest reason for getting this done is so I can be the best & healthiest mom my kids deserve. My question is, should I hold off since my youngest is 3 mos? I of course feel extreme guilt because I would have to be out of commission for a couple of weeks. Any insight is very appreciated so I can make a good decision.

Well here I am watching food shows when I start the puree'd stage tomorrow and my mouth is watering and I wonder if I can ever enjoy the same foods I ate before surgery. Burgers, Chinese food, Mexican, BBQ, pizza and fried foods...fries, potato chips, ....I know I need to eat the protein first and I will limit the fried foods but if I want some chips or fries is that a HUGE issue? Just wondering what other folks are doing out there. Thanks!

Are you seriously going to walk into my office and call me a "cheater"???? Because I added a few years to my life? Because I prevented myself from getting diabetes, having heart problems, of death? Your arm was amputated and you wear a prosthetic ... Does that make you a cheater??? He stands there and says, I'm sorry. You look amazing.

Hello all. I had my meet the surgeon appointment 2 weeks ago. Now I'm just waiting for them to call with my approval and a date. My problem is,I've spent all the money I had put away for this on the unexpected medical stuff that cam up. ( knee surgery for torn meniscus and a heart cath). Not to mention the furnace we had to replace in the house and unexpected vehicle repair. I need to call my insurance to understand the deductibles and copays. If I read things correctly, my deductible has been met for the year. My fear is that the copay will be more than I can afford now and after all this I will not be able to have the surgery now. I feel so defeated. I wonde…

I'm curios to know how the surgery had effected your period. Mine were very heavy for 2 years after having my tubes tied. I had a uterine oblation 5days before gastric bypass. My Dr told me i would either never get it again or it would be very light. I'm now 4days post op and approaching my normal cycle time and I'm wondering if gastric bypass may cause it to come...

Hey everyone, my name is Nicole, I am 24 and with my weight being at 315, I was told by my doctor and my mother to get this procedure. I am not ashamed of my body weight, but I do want to do something about it. I get mixed opinions and personal experiences and I understand they are not typical for everyone who does get this. My problem is, I don't know if I want to do this, I've sworn off gastric surgery because it has had a bad affect on some people In my family. But I don't know where to turn. I am scared that if I were to do this I will become a individual I myself would despise and if I don't I could end up in a grave or ridiculed my whole life. I'm hoping you lovely …

HI everyone. I'm new to the site. I started this process back in February. I did my 6 month medically supervised weight loss already and I finished up in August. My surgeon submitted all the paperwork including all the pre-op testing and evaluations. The insurance denied it saying everything was in order except that they needed a letter from my primary saying that they recommended me for surgery. Seriously! After 6 months of weight management plus giving me a clearance for surgery they denied it for no formal letter. We submitted that letter over a weeke ago and we are still waiting to hear back. Hopefully I will have a date soon!

stalls can and will happen probably earlier than I would hope and for longer than I can stand but it's COMPLETELY normal. The weight I have lost to said point I will never regain again the weight I lose after said stall breaks I will never regain again. I may lose slow, the slow lbs I lose I will never regain again. All I have to do is stick to my plan and embrace the tool I've been given, every ounce of weight I lose from my surgery date forward is gone... Forever.. It really is that simple! I realize some tweaks may need to be made, as in life your going to have to be flexible find what works best... everybody's body is different and I plan to learn to work in harmo…

Hi, I am obviously new here. I hadnt considered lap band seriously until a few months ago, and due to some recent events in my life I have decided to go for it. I had my initial consult at OSUMC here in Columbus. That went well, I have my psych and sleep study appointments set up. Hopefully I will only need the 3 months of classes and with no snags, I hope to have surgery around my birthday in February. Looking forward to reading more here.

Went to Lane Bryant to buy pants and undergarments. Anyway, I tried on a size 18, they were to big. So, when I tried on a size 16, tears started falling. I haven't been that size since high school. I am very happy I made the choice for the surgery. I have my ups and downs with it but I over all pleased with my progress. Thanks for all your support and as always keep you great progress as well.

Today I had my five weeks follow-up and weigh in appointment. I lost 42 lbs since I started my liquid diet. I was striving for more, but my doctor told me that's ok. She wants me to increase my calorie intake to 800 a day on days I work out. She said this should stimulate the body to burn more. Am moving to soft food for 3 months. Don't wanna feel discouraged & will keep hoping for better :-) Sent from my Galaxy S III using RNYTalk
