I'm Becky from the DFW area. I'm 36, a mom to 3 great kiddos, and so ready to be the best mom I can be. I had my consult with Dr. Smith's office yesterday. Unfortunately, my insurance has an exclusion for bariatric surgery, but my amazing family has found a way for me to have surgery. I am calling Monday to get the ball rolling. Going in, I had wanted the gastric sleeve procedure, but have decided to go with band with plication. Shooting for a surgery date around the first of November. I look forward to getting to know you all!

In the 2 years I've had the band, this is my first time on a forum to actually talk to people going through it. I'm excited! I'm down 69lbs in about 22 months! It's had its ups and downs but I would reccomend it to anyone that has some serious weight to loose! Good luck to everyone just starting out. I've been where you are and every pound is an accomplishment.

Currently I don't own a scale. It just depressed me. So should I go and buy one or should I just not worry about the number. I mean I will be able to tell if I'm losing weight or not. Plus I'm worried if I do get one I will be disappointed in how slow I lose. Surgery is Tuesday!! Yes this Tuesday! Lol

Hi my name is Maria, Im curious to know if. Anyone have used the lipozene pills before actually considering the gastric sleeve. I haven't done the surgery yet, but I am looking into it. I'm just curious to know if lipozene is something one should consider before turning to surgery .

Hi!!!! My name is Jamia and I am 22 years old, mother of three(four if u count my hubby ). I went to the weight loss seminar back in February and weighed in at 235.4 and I am 5 ft 4ish. My insurance required me to so a three month documented diet with a dietitian but it ended up being four months since I had a slip up and gained some weight between one of my visits. Long story short, I got approved and I am on day 5 of my pre op diet and my surgery date is set for the 12th of October!!!

Hello All! It is great to be on here and i have been reading a lot of your stories. They are very inspiring. I will be 4 weeks post-op on Monday. I was 256.5 the day of surgery and now as of yesterday I was 234. I never got a goal weight from my doctor but I had the surgery mainly because I have had many knee surgeries and now my ACL is failing for the 4th time and I always hurt. I am 5'10 and I have felt my best at 135. So I guess I have 99 lbs to go. I could use interaction with people as I am getting sad and lonesome even with family around because they really don't understand. They are great but as I drop weight they don't see how its not always easy to say no to f…

Hello everyone, I am new to this group. My husband and I started this process back in March and we are going for our last nutrition visit tomorrow. It's been a long 7 months with the many different dr apt's but its worth it as this opportunity is going to change both of our lives.

I have been working out and trying to loose weight on my own. Lets face it, it isn't working. I am 4 foot 11 inches and I weigh 200lbs. that gives me a BMI of 40.4. My weight has fluctuated back and forth below 200 to over 200. My husband suggested the Lapband considering my motivation to try and get the weight off. I have BlueCross and Blue Shield of GA. I can't for the life of me get a "live" person to talk to on the phone to see if the surgery is covered by my insurance. But if it is how long does it generally take to get approved? What all do you have to do to actually get to your surgery date? Another question is on most of the "criteria" you have to meet it say…

So I'm a newbie here and met with my surgeon for the first time today. I had orientation last week and was told that I immediately needed to start my preop diet and begin working out. I was really nervous at first but meeting with my doctor today really calmed those nerves. After failing at losing weight all my life I simply worry that I will fail at this too... I have to quit smoking which has proven to be not easy but this is important to me and I will make the commitment! I have my psychology appointment on the 31st and after that I simply have to hit my goal weight, get blood tests, and pass a nicotine urine test and then I am in the clear to see the case manager and …

Two weeks ago I finally got all my medical data and medical clearance all together after almost a year to the insurance company. My insurance approved me within' 4 business days. When my surgeon office called me I was excited and overwhelmed with the news. They said they were going to send me a letter. Last Friday I received the letter and it read that my surgery date is September 12. On Tuesday got a call from the hospital asking me to come in for pre testing. I asked them if I could go on Thursday the 6th because my job keep denying my days off. Finally I did everything and all I could do is think and dream about the sugery. I told my job (not ask or request) that I'am …

Had my last weigh in today and so glad to finally get the 7 months over with. Feeling run down now after finally being able to exhale and flu and pneumonia shots and blood work. Just from pre op diet doctor already reduced the dosage of my blood pressure medicine and said I don't need to take my cholesterol anymore because the levels are not that too bad where after surgery I would not need it anymore. Greetings to all, I am a 43 year old single man living in Staten Island, NY. I had a lap band installed on 8/16/2012 which would have been my grandmother's 101 birthday if she were alive. I chose this date because I felt she would be watching over me. Also, it was exactly 5 months after my first visit with Dr. Marina Kurian of NYU Langone Med. Center in NYC, NY. Also, the number 4 has been prominent in my life and I consider it a lucky number. 8/16/2012 are all multiples of 4. I was 320 when I went to Dr. Kurian, lost about 10 pounds on the liquid diet to prepare me for the surgery and now I am at 292. My goal is to get al least to 200 pounds if not less. I lost m…

My name is Shauna here is a little background on my life and how I got here. And a link to my blog if anyones interested http://na-na2minina-na.blogspot.com/ I’ve been heavy through all of my teen and adult life. I can remember adults when I was younger saying that I was just big boned and I would grow out of it, well I never did. I think it was their “Nice” way of saying that I was a fat child. I may have been a heavy person, but I never let it stop be from pursuing things I wanted in life, like a relationship, learning how to drive, or graduating high school and going to college. I have tried losing weight in the past, but I never really thought I was losing it f…

I started this journey a couple months ago. Hit a speed bump when my first mammogram showed a grape size mass. Had a biopsy its benign thank the good Lord. My mom died from it and my grandpa had it too. I need this weight off for my health and my families too. Had my surgical consult. My psych eval is scheduled as is my swallow study and fitness and nutritionist. I am blessed to have UHC on a low deductible and they cover it all at 80/20 with oop max at 1750$. Waiting is the tough part, all visits will be done by next week as will the closing of the short sale on my home. Damn what a year it has been and 2013 will start me off as a new woman! Comments support are welcome …

I had my surgery on Sept. 12, 2012, and have breezed through the recovery with no issues at all. (I have fibromyalgia, so pain is the norm anyway.) During the first 2 weeks, I lost 13 pounds, but have stalled this third week. I have done everything the doctor has advised as far as eating, exercising, etc. I could eat whatever I want as often as I want as I am not feeling full ever, but I am limiting myself to "legal" foods and amounts. I will have to admit, I'm a bit discouraged. From past experience I know that my willpower will wane. I get my first fill on October 24, and am hopeful that things will change then. I just hope that I don't blow it before then!

Hi everyone! Hope you are all well and happy I'm definitely very new to this, having joined about 10 minutes ago. I was pleasantly thrilled to stumble upon this site, because I sure do need the support/advice/reassurance etc. I am 22 years old and I have been more than overweight my whole life. I don't ever remember a time where I fit into the clothes I wanted or comfortably fit... well, anywhere. I always thought I could lose the weight whenever I wanted to. Once I tried once, twice, thrice, I realized that not only was the problem physical, but mental. I saw myself revolving my life on what I was going to eat next. I knew I had a problem. Lucky for me, a f…
