Hello all, My name is Nykol (nicole) Im 21 and my surgery is scheduled for Oct 30, 2012 and i couldn't be more excited and nervous. I have struggled with my weight since i was 10 and now that I am in track in college and know what I want to do in my future I am starting my weights journey by getting banded. I like most everyone here has tried everything to lose weight. I am the youngest of 4 and only girl, my biggest motivation is my 11month old Niece, she is the center of my world right now and i want to make sure I am around for her. I don't have children of my own but seeing my bestfriend who is like a sister to me starting her family has also motivated me to take con…

Hello! My name is Nicole I have been overweight most of my life. I've lost some before, but always yo-yoed.Before my surgery I weighed in at 300.4 pounds- the heaviest I've EVER been. My surgery was July 31, 2012. It's been about 2 & 1/2 months and I now weigh 259 pounds. It sees to be coming off really slowly for me. Is it just me who feels that way?

I finally got a seminar in today. This is my 3rd try. Each time I went before they had changed the date and I did not know until I got there. My insurance requires that I do 6 months of WW(ect) while under the monthly care of my regular Dr. for weigh loss also. I started that about a week ago. So it will be awhile before I can have surgery. I also have to lose 10% of my body weight while on WW. I have tried many times to lose, even WW(weight watchers) but could only lose about 20 pounds then it would not move down anymore for nothing(weeks on end). So I know that this site is more for the lap band but what about the sleeve, anyone? The dr at the seminar says that he w…

Well I survived! Despite a report of a flawless procedure, I had some major complications later that night.. My blood sugar was 99 at the time of surgery. By that evening it had shot up to 350 and my BP was dangerously low. I'm told my body was Ice cold yet I was drenched In sweat. The doctors and nurses basically spent the nit in my room. I was about to be sent to ICU when somehow everything went back to normal within normal ranges... Once that crisis passed, on came the gas paint OMG!!! I ended up staying an additional night in the hospital and required 2 pints of blood... I'm home now, resting well, no pain or discomfort. I walked my neighborhood today.it wore me ou…

Hello - So my husband (finally?) says out loud that I might want to consider lap band surgery. It worked for someone's mom, so maybe I should consider it. After the initial shock and depression that he even mentioned this ..... I'm at the point where I'm at least considering it. Until a couple of days ago, I would have said I would never consider weight loss surgery. It's too drastic. Surely I can lose this weight on my own. Reality check -- I've been overweight (to some degree) since 3rd grade. It's probably not going to happen on my watch. At least not without some serious intervention. Some questions ... What kind of scaring is there? 2-4 dots? Can …

Ok... I'm so happy I found this on the web, it's nice to read issues that others have shared or are dealing with. I am scheduled for surgery 10/23 and I am a big ball of nerves! Honestly, I don't think it's the surgery that has me nervous but the AFTER that has me scared. I've had a few negative people in my ear telling me how this doesn't work and I was wasting my time/money/health, but I refuse to believe that... especially after seeing so many success stories! This posting was me introducing myself to my newly found Lapband family! I hope you guys will keep me in prayer and please, PLEASE send me any advice or tips you may have. I am the first person in my circ…

...to LIVE! Had my surgery done on October 1, so still in the healing/liquid diet process... my journey started almost 3 years ago when I was having problems with my knees due to arthritis, and therefore was gaining weight due to inactivity. I was only working temp so I didn't want to start up the process after going to the first seminar and finding it could take several months... ...advance forward over 2 years and I was finally on track again; was full-time, had FMLA, and was covered for the surgery; and let's not forget the weight I had gained since I first started thinking about the operation. There was no doubt that I was going to get the sleeve from the firs…

I am diabetic and my b/s has been uncontrolled for years. I backed out of surgery two years ago because I thought I could work harder and control my blood sugars. Well I failed over and over. I was up and down, finally they had to up my meds and my insulin. My pancreas was working at 20 % so I decided to do it rather than let my illness totally destroy my organs. I sleeved on October 2, 2012. I stayed in the hospital for two days and so far aside from the usual gas pain everything is going good. My sugars are dropping daily. In the morning I wake up and they are below 120. I am really going to stay focused and am so grateful I did not have complications.

happiness is having WLS, the sleeve for medical reason i am prone to fall. i haven't fallen in a few months. when i fall, i have to turn, roll on my knees ( both have been replaced) and with difficulty get up. i fell the other day, i got up a lot better than i usually do. I was so happy. I said to my DH, hmmm, do you think this has anything to do with my weight loss (lifting up 90 lbs less of me?) DH and i were walking today, i was walking pretty well, better than my usual tortoise pace - i said hey, do you think i'm walking better from my weight loss? i went to the mall today for the first time in a long time, i bought a smart phone. in the past, i wou…

Hi everyone- I'm sure a lot of you share the same story! I've been battling weight my entire life and have been doing a lot of research on the lap band. I'm going to a seminar on Tuesday. I'm wondering what occurs after that at your first consultation with the surgeon. Do they take blood, weigh you etc? When do you find out when insurance covers it. I have Oxford and I see on my EOB that this is covered as long as it is deemed medically necessary. My BMI is 40 but I do not have any other conditions (I think) except lately I've been getting heartburn a lot. Thanks for all your help and I'm glad to see there is a great community for support and answers.

I have a question... I recently went to the seminar and had every intention on signing up for the lap band surgery. AS the doctor was explaining each surgery, he stated that the lap band is the least out of the bunch that he Would recommend due to the percentage of people who actually lost weight. My problem is I am now considering getting the GB surgery but am a Little scared of the outcome. Can anyone give me some advice. I was looking into the sleeve as well. I have quite amount of weight I Want to loss and I Want to chose the one that is best for me. Ultimately I know it is my decision, but I wanted to Get some information from those of you who have had the su…

Hi! I am glad to have found a site specific to weight loss surgery. I have been on many weight loss forums where we are judged. I have been told "You took the easy way out" too many times. Grrrr... I had surgery on July 20, 2005. I went from 261 to 111 close to overnight. We couldn't find the "off" switch. It was very scary. I was called in by my boss. People had come to him thinking I was Anorexic. Nice! My doctor and I agreed that I needed to put some on, but that was difficult. Now I'm up to 160 and want to lose 30. It has been up and down, but the good news is that I'm still down 100. I can lose 30. I just need some ideas. I am thinking about going back to our basic…

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since surgery. Yesterday was my last day of giving myself the Lovanox shots at home! Yeah!!!! I think that was the worst of it all. I also had a couple of Firsts yesterday that really made me happy and I feel alive again...if this makes sense. I went to the movies yesterday with my son and mother in law and then we went out to a late lunch. For me, this is kind of a big thing in that before surgery I worried how much my life was going to change. I worried that things would never be 'normal' again. However, I had a glimps of what my new 'normal' will be...and I like it! Instead of ordering a diet coke and a large popcorn, I brought a …

I am a little over 3 months post op and down 85 pounds. I chose to save my own life and I'm so thrilled that I did! I've added years to my life and life to my years. If you are questioning whether or not to have this surgery, think of how much your life is worth. Time is precious - the longer you wait, the more time you are losing. Here are some pics of my journey.

Well I'm being sleeved on Tuesday. I've been so excited now I'm scared and have doubts. Is this really worth it? Will it work. I'm 4"11 and weigh 200lbs. Short and no place to put it. I never go anywhere because I feel so gross. I live in my own prison. I think on one hand it's my only chance to start living again. Is this the right surgery for me? Should I have gone with the lab band or the other one. Will I ever get to eat real food again? Scared and lonely

38 days in the hospital. exploratory lap looking for leak left me with massive pneumonia, pleural effusions, 5 antibiotics, abcesses over spleen and liver from the small leak, chest tube drains, picc line, fevers, i was told i had a sub clinical leak. discharged with jpeg which requires non-stop care. home health nurses 4 days per week, genrally just bad luck. thank goodness for my family. i do not remember the first 2 weeks or so, which is a blessing.the tpn and tube feedings slowed my weight loss......down 25#. surgery was 7-24. i wish evryone the best with the journey!!!!!!!!

Hi VSG folks, My name is Bren and I'm 30 years old and from the blue grass state of Kentucky. I have three daughters and have been married to my amazing husband for nearly 11 years now. I have never been "skinny" though throughout my childhood I was athletic playing softball, basketball, gymnastics, and dancing... I loved being active. As I got older however I noticed that I wasn't as excepted as I was as a kid being the big girl who was funny and athletic. So I gave up on sports figuring it would just be easier to not be a part of it than to have to hear comments from other teams/players, etc. As an adult I found myself becoming very lazy. I have three daughters all of w…
