I am home and resting. My doctor sent me home with heparin shots for next 10 dayside. I could have someone administer them from pharmacy, but I opted to do them myself. I am on broth and natural non acidic juices and of course water. I am happy to report I can tolerate good plain old H20. I am not hungry and suffering from some head congestion which is causing me have a headache. I was not sent home with pain medication just children's liquid pain reliever. The pain is minimal. I am able to drink with no issues. Day 2 was hard. My BP was elevated which is not normal for me. It was my body's reaction to the pain. I am much better on day 3. I gained 7 lbs in hospital. I am…

Hi. I'm Andrea. 31 years old (barely- just turned 31 yesterday), a wife and a mom to one beautiful 6 year old girl. I work full time as a nurse in a busy cardiac center doing procedural care and nursing education. I've been overweight as long as I can remember. I've had more high weights than I have low weights- max weight was 299 (2010) , lowest was around 160 (2000). I've dieted, done Weight Watchers, Optifast, personal training, and Phentermine. I do great for a while and then I'm off the wagon. I'm tired of bouncing around. I've developed rheumatoid arthritis and have PCOS- I need weight off of me. Thank God I don't have diabetes. Sometimes my BP is up at the doc…

I have completed all of my requirments and I am waiting for a surgery date. I am still undecided between the Lap Band and Bypass. Every time I decide to do the Lap Band someone at the support group will tell me not to. Any suggestions. I feel the Bypass is too drastic but I am scared to death that the Lap Band will not work. People say it comes off to slow and does not always work. Any comments. Thanks

Hi Everyone! I am brand new here! I got my lap-band on 9/25/12. I have lost 14 lbs since then. I am still on the full liquid diet and have my post-op appointment on 10/9. I am so proud of myself for getting this far. I started the process two years ago when I went to the informational session but didn't move forward with everything until this past summer. They also ended up removing a hiatal hernia I had. I had to get this lap-band after all the years of attempts. My babies need me healthy. Anyways, I am glad I am here and looking forward to meeting you all. Julie

Hi I had the gastric band put in on October 2008 privately and it has been a nightmare. I eventually went to my local GP who referred me to an NHS doctor in November 2011. It was discovered that I had only been stitched at the one side and it had slipped drastically and this was why I have all the pain and sickness etc. This Doctor unfolded me and two months ago have pain back and sickness as if I have a filled band. I am going to my Doctor in 3 weeks to discuss band coming out and a possible sleeve revision of which I have decided to go for and will be done sometime in November/December 2012. I have been overweight, okay obese, since having my 2nd child and have lost and gained tons over the last 22 years. My most recent success was in 2006 but it took counting everything, eating alot of salads and exercising like made 2 hours a day 6 days a week. I went from 232 to 170 in 5 months and felt good but my life consisted of work, exercise, meticulous loggin of food and sleep. In early 2007 I partially ripped/detached my achilles tendon from the bone and chose to let it heal naturally instead of surgery. This took 2 years of hobbling aroun…

At one point I was taking 42 pills a day. I sought a second opinion, only to be told that my Dr that I was previously seeing was doing all that could be done for me. So began my search for alternate treatments. I went to a holistic dr, looked into acupuncture, went to massage & physical therapy, so on & so on. After no success, I decided to look into other options. I found a surgical approach could possibly be the answer. I looked into a pacemaker implant, lapband & decided I didn't really want a foreig…

I'm 29 years old and am scheduled to have surgery on October 31st. I'm both nervous and excited, like most I'm sure. My surgery will be done by Dr. Allain at Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My current weight is 350 pounds at 5'6. I will have to do a two week pre-op diet. The thing I am most nervous about the diet is that I will be traveling for four days of the diet. My husband is worried that traveling for work while doing this diet will be too stressful, but I'm choosing to look at it as a challenge. If I can't do this for 2 weeks, how am I going to manage this change for the rest of my life. So I'm going to give it all I've got! I'm getting to the poin…

I started struggling with weight at the age of 12. Around puberty I suppose. I was a size 12/14 throughout middle/high school. Thought I was a giant, tormented by my peers. After graduation my weight continued to climb. At the age of 25 I was married, became more comfortable with my weight. My husband and I waited a year to try and get pregnant. After 3 years, testing, fertility meds, no success. It was advised I try to lose weight. I failed. Then decided to get 'lapband' because I thought this was the safest and lest invasive procedure. I had the surgery in November 2007. Began to lose weight and felt wonderful. I was advised to not try and get pregnant for atleast 2…

Does any one else here feels like the way their parent's treated food may have affected your eating habits now? OK I'm not saying it's your parents fault that we are overweight, but okay I grew up in a household that whatever was put on your plate you ate it, and we got the " do you know how many people out there starving" speech. I think the problem is that (atleast for my generation) is that to much food would be on the plate and regardless if your full or not your made to eat all of it. I think that's why I would eat even when I was full because I grew up and did the same thing put too much food on my plate and in the back of my mind it's "like you know how many starv…

Ok so this is a HUGE adjustment for me. I'm happy I've made the decision and got the lap band but I'm also having some difficulty with recovery. I've been on chronic pain management for back pain for 2 1/2years and have now stopped so I can pursue the lifelong dream to be a healthier mom and wife. I'm having a hard time with the post op pain from the band and hiatal hernia repair. Has anyone had similar recovery issues? I'm so happy this forum is out there!! Looking forward to all the support and friendships.
