Hello everyone my name is Christina I was apart of this app a few years back and left but Iam back. Just looking for new people that can related to me here is a little about me. I've had my lapband 8years now the first few years I loved it when I started this journey I was 300 but being 5"8 you couldn't tell. My only problem was I had alot of issue with my knees so at the time me & my parents decided weight loss surgery was a good idea. Fast forward I was down to 189lbs when I got a tummy tuck shortly after that I received well a month after that I was pregnant with my first child. I was lucky you couldn't even tell I was pregnant with her but since then I just had my…

Morning sleevers. The day is finally here. I'm having my Gastric Sleeve this afternoon! I'm nervous, anxious, scared, excited, you name it. My first surgery so I'm nervous of what to expect and how I will react to the anaesthetic. My sister had a sleeve nearly 3 years ago and has lost over 100lbs. My turn. Im being treated privately under the care of Mr Hassn in South Wales, UK. Fingers crossed I have one of the easier journeys I've read about. Hoping to use this post as a kind of diary of my experience. Starting weight 22st 13 (321lbs). No pre op diet required by my surgeon so it's going to be in at the deep end. Been overweight my whole life with epi…

I meant to post this last month....but during the holidays, time disappears. I’m posting this because before and just after surgery I was ravenous for information. I don’t come to this forum much anymore, as life has adjusted. But I’m hoping this will help anyone like me who wanted to know as much as possible, and from as many people as possible. Please remember....everyone’s journey is different. This is just some notes about mine. 6 month lessons Yup, it’s a long post. Settle in. Lol. So, I just had my 6 month appt. I know all of our experiences are so unique, but I wanted to share mine as a reference of what you may expect. A bit about me. I had gastric sleeve in Las …

So.. I'm just getting back from a week at Disney with my four year old daughter and hubby. So cliche, but we had a Magical Time. The last time I was there was approximately 15 years ago. I weighed around 250+. Since then, I had gained about 80 pounds. Well, I had RNY on March 8, 2017. (The best decision of my life.) I've since lost over 100 pounds. Today, I'm down to 193.4 from 292 on surgery day. Anyway, back to my story. My first victory came on the plane. I was able to use the seat belt without an extender. You talk about excited. I didn't take the seat belt off even when the sign was off. I had extra room in my seat. After landing in Sanford/Orlando I thought wo…

I had gastric bypass March 8th. So I'm almost 6 months out. As of this morning I'm down 97 pounds. To date I have lost a minimal amount of hair. This has been my biggest fear. My hair is my best feature. I have always had long, thick, and extremely healthy hair. Do you think I've made it through or is there still a chance hair loss can occur? If you've had or going to have a gastric sleeve with SIPS I'd like to hear from you. About your journey. This is not the same as the DS procedure. I'm curious about your results and issues as we go thru the process. I know there are a few of us in the NC area but I'm sure there are more and more having this procedure.

I never thought I could or would be as successful as everyone I saw on this forum. The first few weeks post op I looked at people posting 100 pound weight-loss thinking if only that could be me! I have to say that it happens so slow and yet so fast! I am one of those people that loses weight every few weeks! 2-3 weeks with our losing weight then a 10 pound weight-loss, it’s so crazy! The biggest thing I take out of this is a new relationship with food that I hope to keep for a lifetime! So excited to see what the next year holds! Good luck to everyone on this journey. I don’t regret it for a second (except not doing it sooner!)

Actually, it was yesterday, and the fact that I didn't remember until today is a good indication that things are slightly more normal. Still losing steadily, had all of my blood tests redone for post-surgery comparisons and everything is now in normal range! I do have to get for an endoscopy on Monday to try to figure out why I still get this gnawing pain/hunger/nausea sometimes. I got it before the surgery too and had it checked out and the part of my stomach that was showing "erosions" is actually the lower part that I'm not longer using because of the surgery. Yet the discomfort continues. I think it may be a lactose intolerance, so I've started cutting back. Toda…

::Deep breath:: Hello? ::tap tap:: Anyone here? How are you? I am fine-ish. I mean, I feel fine and I look fine but something is still holding my happiness back. Actually, if I am being honest, I am not fine. I am scared, anxious, worried, afraid, concerned, freaked out but dedicated to doing this surgery. I am scared because both of my parents have had gastric bypass surgery and have had life long effects that are most likely attributed to the surgery (vomiting, dehydration, shitting themselves to death, constipation, vitamin deficiency, neuropathy). I am anxious because I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and, though treated and kept in check, my anxiety …

I am a month and 5 days post-op and have only lost 10 lbs. My surgeon said we should lose an average of 20lbs a month. I was losing more weight before the surgery than after! I'm starting to feel like I made a mistake. I'm also having trouble getting in my 64 oz of fluid in a day because I can't drink fast. I was trying to eat based on the diet given by the Dr. but having to wait an hour was making it even harder to get the fluid in and I was becoming dehydrated, I actually still am a little, so I've quit trying to eat at all during the day just to get the fluid in. The Dr said if we didn't eat right now it was ok we could have protein shakes here and there but he really …

So, My insurance will not cover my surgery. I went through 6 months of requirements because my doctors office said they talked to someone and it was covered. Well we got the audio and they told her it wasn’t covered and she just heard what she wanted to. Sooo now I’m going out of state to Colorado to get my surgery and pay out of pocket. Anyone else pay out of pocket? I have good credit and was wondering if anyone else got a medical loan? I’m only having to get a loan for 13,500 or 14,000. My mom originally told me she would help me out but then turned around and said she doesn’t think this surgery will work for me because I had the lapband ( my port has flipped 4 t…

I am hoping to rekindle my inspiration that I had right after surgery. I have fought my weight forever. Most success I had was with Medifast. I made it down to 225. A loss of 70 pounds. I got to the point where I couldn’t stand to eat another packet of food, so I proceeded to gain it all back and then some. I decided to go with the surgery option. I went in knowing it wasn’t the cure all, I would need to work it. Starting weight was 321, but had to see a nutritionist and lost about 15 pounds before my July 2015 surgery. I lost about 50 pounds post surgery. I found out that highly processed carbs still go down quite nicely. So I went back to my emotional eating when st…

Super long post alert---my apologies. Hi guys, I totally forgot to post this. So on 12/20/2016 i celebrated two milestones. It was my birthday, but most importantly it's the day that i finally made it to the loser's bench and took control of my life back. So this year i had a milestone birthday and my gift to myself was my progress. I've spent so much time beating myself up because i'm still not at my goal yet, and i do realize that i will get there. But i forgot to actually look back at my progress and see how far i've come and actually enjoy that. Not just physically but mentally. I'm so grateful not just for this tool, but for …

So I was living in NYC when I decided to get sleeved. Went to Texas to have my surgery done because it was about 1/3 of the price in NYC. 1 month after I was sleeved I decided to move back to the Caribbean and just chill out and focus on myself for a while. So now I'm living in St. Vincent struggling with my old habits because obviously missing the local food from living away it's hard to resist lol. So it's definitely been an interesting journey lots of things to adjust to. But I've definitely been working my ass off!! I'm back playing sports and in the best shape of my life. I currently work out 5-7 days a week. I play rugby Monday, Tuesday Wednesday I go to the gym on …

Hello All! For the first time ever, I voluntarily posted a picture of myself on FB. I was sleeved on 3/6/17. Just a couple days after my 49th birthday. My SW was 236, my CW is 163, and GW is 150. Other than my first week being a pure nausea hell, everything else went great. I do miss eating more than a few bites of food when I'm really enjoying the taste of something. I also miss baking. One of my favorite hobbys. My co workers also miss my baking! Lol But I feel better than I have in years! I would never have asked for, and gotten there promotion at work, had it not been for the surgery. I knew I wouldn't have been able to do my current job if I didn't lose the weight. …

What We know what living obese is like. We know the lost opportunities of obesity. We know the rush of gluttony ... of sugar racing thru the veins of finally feeling full. We know fat prejudice. We know the health challenges. What we forget: The courage it takes to make a change. The power of self love to commit to body altering surgery The commitment. To this new life... We’ve been fat longer. We’ve eaten badly longer. We’ve eaten our emotions longer. We are naturally better at obesity then at being post surgery. It’s easy, comfortable even to fall back into familiar stinking thinking and food. What are you doing for your new way of life that supports staying on track…

Hi all, I feel bad that I have read all your stories and I have not posted anything. So here is my story. My name is Doug and I am 55 years old. I got sleeved on November 15th. I thought I was prepared after reading this and other boards…..N O T! Got to the hospital at 5am and surgery was at 7:15 and was in recovery for who knows how long. I got to my room about 3:pm. The first night I was on heavy pain meds and yes it was a painful surgery and I had the “oh **** what have I done thoughts”. The next day I was feeling better and was off the IV pain meds just oral. After two days I was off all pain meds and for the most part I felt really good. I was back to work in on…

Surely you are someone outside of your surgery and struggles with our weight. You have interests and dislikes and families- jobs and hobbies. And honestly- yes it is exciting to have this stool and to be on the journey- but hasn't there been enough focus all our lives on just our weight? I know VST is dedicated to our VSG stories, but I sort of think that who we are makes our VSG surgeries that much more meaningful. So I'll go first... I'm Danielle. I'm 27 and I have three sisters and one nephew. I am unmarried and have no children. I work full time running the office for a respiratory company. This semester I am also attending college full time via online classes. …

Hello All. I have to share the first part of my story in hopes that it will help someone else. My SW on 12/11/17 was 257. I came out of surgery fine but a few hours after - I began to literally pull off my hospital gown along with IV's. I cried out for help as my body seemed to be going through shock. I was burning up and felt worse than ever before. Thank God for attentive and educated nurses. A medical rescue alert was issued and my room was filled with a doctor and nurses. My BP dropped and after the fastest catscan ever, it was confirmed that I was bleeding internally! Guys, I went through a lifesaving emergency surgery and was given 8 units of blood. I woke up in ICU…

My journey involving bariatric sleeve surgery began at 450lbs. My blood pressure was in true digits, both numbers, I had diabetes, and my doctor could only guess my BMI, because the chart went to 65, and I was over 70! My legs hurt all the time, and so did my back. I could eat 100 wings in a single sitting. I ate 32 tacos at once to show off. It was killing me. Almost 2 years ago, I started the bariatric journey, with Kathy Scutella. I got to the surgery date, but had to call it off because I had just gotten a job and without FMLA I would lose it. I have up for almost a year. Then I got better insurance, and met my current PCP, Dr. Kelly Wienecke. Sh…

Not being able to get on amusement park rides with my sons. 3. Not being able to take my wife to a concert, because i could not fit in a seat. 4. Avoiding restuarant, movie theaters and sports complexes with tiny seats. Gym workouts & a 3 mile daily walk is the norm. I’m really proud my A1C was 5.6. Bout as good as it gets. Blood Pressure & Cholesterol levels perfect. Main thing is I feel great. Ten months after starting my weight-loss journey, and six-months after I had the surgery, I'm finally down to wearing size L clothing (I was a 4XL at the start of the year) and feeling much healthier. I was lucky enough to have access to universal health-care and a supporting partner, but I never thought I'd see this weight again (I haven't been this light since I was about 10 years old). For much of this time, I didn't tell people that I had weight-loss surgery, and I didn't tell people how bad my health had become in the lead-up to making the decision to have a sleeve, I finally have the confidence to post the full story and pictures publicly, and this blog post wi…

Okay so let me begin by saying that I'm still very happy I got this surgery and I don't regret it at all. However, I've noticed a sharp pain below my breast bone literally every time I take a deep breath or swallow something. It makes eating very difficult and I'm scared of not being able to take in enough liquids and Protein to keep my body working out okay. It hasn't really seemed to get any better since I left the hospital and to be quite honest I'm not even sure if it's from the Gastric Sleeve procedure or the hiatal hernia repair that my surgeon did when he found one during the procedure. I've never had acid reflux or any indication that I had a hiatal hernia. I…

My name is Jaye and I have been a Gastric Bypass patient since 2010. I am six years out going in seven. I have been through ups and downs with the surgery. My highest weight when I got the surgery was 248 and my lowest weight was 135. In the 7 year time frame my weight has been up and down between 150-170. There are days I just do not want to eat because I get sick and throw my food back up and there are days I am just fine. Right now I am going through a situation where I have this pouch that looks like I am pregnant under my breastbone and my doctors tells me there is nothing there. So I finally made it to the other side! [emoji3] I had my Gastric Bypass surgery on dec. 5th at 730am, I wanted to share the little experience I had after surgery. So a little history on myself bc this is the part I want to share bc I have read everywhere on the internet about people asking about surgery and Suboxone. I’m a recovering addict, I was a iv drug user. I’ve been clean for 3 1/2 years. I was worried they would not do surgery on me because of my past and bc of the meds I currently take to keep me on the straight and narrow. I searched the internet before I saw my surgeon I worried I wouldn’t be able to have surgery, well there wasn’t a whole lot out there. I tol…

My name is Mallary, and this is the story of my wls. Height: 5'3" HW: 250 CW: 125 I began my journey just like many others. Being tired of carrying the extra lbs, frustrated that I couldn't shed them, and feeling like I was out of options. On top of that, I also had a mix of feeling depressed, unattractive, and overwhelmed from failing normal diets that seemed to work for everyone except me. My first surgery was actually the Lap Band in March of 2012. I would instantly take that decision back if I could. I lost 40 lbs here and there over the course of a year. I felt like the Lap Band had failed me. Or maybe that I had failed it. So, I researched, and found that the most…

SW 319 CW 230 GW 160 I'm so excited. It's been 20 years since I've been this small. Yesterday I went on my first shopping trip. I kept gravitating to tge 3xl and it would dawn on me. I'm a size 16 now " GET OUT OF THE PLUS SIZE"! omg never thought I can actually wear things I actually want. Not just look at sizes till I found something. It feels amazing. Went from size 26 jeans and 4xl tops. To size 16 jeans and xl top in just 4 months. Victory! Best decision I've ever made for myself. No regrets.
