Hi, I am about to have my final visit (after all supervised weight loss appts, psych, bloodwork, etc) so they can submit my insurance paperwork. Just waiting for the phone to ring so I can schedule that. I am hoping to be approved in Dec and surgery in Jan but if somehow it happens sooner and I can get in this month (ha- dreaming) I am all for it. I've completed everything else from labs, EKG, psych eval, endoscopy, etc. My surgeon is Dr Sung at Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA. I am 48 years old, mom of two college age kids. 5'7 and 252 lbs so my BMI is like 38.1. I've got type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and high cholesterol. Yuck, that is not fun …

People keep saying it's my fault my band keeps breaking. It's my fault the nurse practitioner broke the port to begin with, just right months after I got it. It's my fault that when True Results repaired it they put in to much chord and wrapped around itself and broke off the band and apparently it is my fault the surgeon than had to move the port to my right side where it pulls and pushed all the time and keeps causing me to aspercream into my lungs and have multiple rounds of pnumonia and bronchitis for the last three years. I just was this thing out if me! I walk over 7000 steps a day (until my foot was crushed a year ago). I didn't start eating breads and pasta until…

So right now I am just about at 5 months post op. I have slipped back into old habits. I don’t feel like I am losing weight as best as i can. How did you handle this, if this happened to you. Did you just restart the protein shakes? I am just feeling bummed and disappointed in myself.

Hey y’all, My name is Rachel. I’m 22 years old & a RN! I have struggled with my weight since I was about 9 years old. I made the decision to have VSG because I truly felt like it would make a vast improvement in my quality of life, how I interact with others & my work performance. I absolutely love what I do & I have worked really hard to get where I am now. So at the age of 22 I should not be coming home from working 12’s and be hurting in my knees & legs. I work night shift & it never seems like I can get enough sleep. I had been doing tremendous research but on November 1st I decided to take a leap of faith & call our bariatric surgeon at the h…

Yup, I've made it to the four-month point. About 105 lbs down since the start, about 65 since surgery on August 4. I can confirm that it does get better each week! I feel like I hit a turning point in terms of getting closer to feeling "normal." I'm still cautiously introducing new foods and fine tuning my sense of fullness so I stop before I get uncomfortable (or sick.) I learned a good lesson this past week about why you must eat all your proteins first: I was having a meeting in a cafe and was hungry for lunch so I ordered a kale salad. It was my first time having raw kale, with regular dressing on the side, but I was thrilled when I was able to eat it, no problem. How…

I am 15 days post opp. Highest weight: 326, Weight day of surgery: 316, and current weight: 291. It has been a rocky road so far. Surgery went smooth. Very little to no pain. The problem is that I can not get my fluids in nor 80 gs protein in. I am weak, no energy, and very little drive to do anything. I went back to work three days ago. I work at a desk in a very busy office. Getting back to work has actually helped. Just the small amount of moving around the office and interacting with others. I have found that my tailbone is starting to hurt. I also am having trouble sleeping at night. My primary care doctor called me in a prescription to help with that.…

I had gastric bypass a year ago and have greatly benefitted from the support in this community. For my December 2016 buddies - I hope everyone celebrates this year — congratulations! It has been a great year because aside the obvious weight loss, I have learned discipline. Not in not eating - I physically have been required to think about eating differently, but discipline in taking care of myself: drinking enough water, eating protein, being a hawk with not missing vitamins and chewing, chewing, chewing. I'm not sure if my photo is attached, but I was humbled seeing the difference in a year. If you are at the beginning of your journey, hang in there, be patient and be p…

Hi guys, Well I am back in theatre next week to have gastric plication and lengthening of the roux limb. I had a band in 2004, band removed and sleeved in 2015, bypass 2016, 2 x overstitches in 2017 and now having plication and roux limb lengthening next week. I have lost weight with each procedure then gradually gained again. Never getting near my original weight of 136kg, I get down to about 80kg and am happy there then invariably start to creep up gradually each time. This has to be my last procedure. This is my 6th attempt now. I have everything crossed for this working. Anyone else had roux lengthening or plication as a bypass revision? Thank…

****warning- this is not a warm and fuzzy post****** I am just shy of 11 months post op. I am down 92 pounds from surgery, 105 from my first appointment. I have been between 152 and 157 for the past 2 months now. This is where it seems I will end up. I went from a 22 pant to size 10. A 2x shirt to a M. I even dropped a shoe size. I was able to drop a good portion of my heart medicine and I no longer feel like I'm going to die walking upstairs. A year ago I would never have been able to walk around campus like I do now. (I'm a college lecturer at a large university) All should be good, but in reality, I hate my new body. I don't think I'm alone. I think…

Okay it's been almost a week since my surgery and the only thing I can do is walk around. I took a walk a very short up and down stairs .I can't drink anything because I'm having a severe acid reflux pain in my chest. so how are you supposed to drink your water intake if you can't even take a sip. the pain is bad it makes me not want to drink at all what do I do? they gave me the medicine yesterday so I guess I have to wait for that to start working in my system. I also noticed the only time when I have acid reflux is when I'm cold is that a thing?. Sent from my SM-N920P using BariatricPal mobile app

This time last year I was getting ready to undergo my surgery. I followed the diet to a 't' except for on Thanksgiving. That was my last meal it wasn't a big meal but it was my last meal that I would have for a year. I decided that at that moment I needed to make a change. I actually made the change long before when I started my pre-op diet however I wasn't as serious as I thought I needed to be. So as I underwent surgery everything went fine, I tried to minimize the pain and the gas in the minimal suffering that came with the surgery and was out the next day and back home. I went and about my business to school and back to work and was trying to do my best to make sure t…

Following the lead of others and using this thread to post my story and subsequent updates. First appt: 10/22/15 Surgeon appt: 11/11/15 Insurance approval: 11/23/15 Pre-op appt: 12/31/15 - all clear for surgery! Surgery scheduled for 1/26/16 My stats (I still need to do measurements) SW: 290 HW: 315 Height: 5'5" Liquid/pre-op diet starts 1/12/16! Exactly one week to go! My husband is going to have VSG done as well, and has already started the process. It's been a loooooong 6 months, and I'm so excited that I'm just over a week to go until surgery! I'm about halfway through the liquid pre-op diet, and it's gotten much easier after the first couple of days. I'm definitely still hungry and definitely more tired than normal, but it's been tolerable. I'm so excited to start my post-surgery journey to a healthier me!

Hey everyone. [emoji4] I haven’t posted for awhile but i just want to share my story as there are lots of new people flowing through surgery and I’d love to help anyone with my experience. I had wls dec 2014. It was quite an ordeal for me, very painful and I had complications. I weight 243 lbs at my surgery and I’m 5’6. I ended up having five or six surgeries on my stomach over the next 6 months. Gallbladder went, exploratory, revision surgery, a endoscopy for a super bad stricture, a granuloma removed from my belly button ... After my wls I was unable to eat solid food for 10 months due to a severe stricture. I could only eat broth and sometimes cheese. So in a way t…

I was sleeved two weeks ago today. I am following my doctor's orders to a tee. I am only weighing once a week. I actually gained 2 pounds this week....seriously? I had Gastric bypass surgery back in June 2015. Stayed in the hospital 2 days and was released. I never felt great afterwards. Felt very weak, tired, and in pain. 3 weeks after surgery I started a new job as a care giver. I kept telling my new family that hired me I wasn’t feeling right. I worked my 8 hour shift but was feeling awful by the time it was over. I mentioned I was going to the ER after work. Showed up at 6pm and ended up being hospitalized for 3 months. Apparently I had a blood clot so they admitted me and searched for it while pumping me full of blood thinners. Two weeks into my hospital stay my blood counts were showing my system was being poisoned. My small…

Hi everyone i had a gastric band fitted in 2009. Was great for a while but sadly, blockages and breakages (from a faulty batch) and I have given up. I started at 260lbs, down to 175 with the band, now back up to 225 so time to stop that growth! i have a revision to a RNY (Fobi pouch type) on 14 December - and today heard insurance will pay 20% which is great news. The bypass involved no special diet, really, so am a bit apprehensive: protein drinks (less variety here in New Zealand I think), dumping, and having the RNY by open surgery not laparoscopic - all make be a bit nervous... Thanks to you all for keeping me company on this journey.

Hello, My (Lela) story began in August 2013, I began taking a product called Plexus Slim, the product was awesome, but I was not happy with the results, So I began searching info on the gastric sleeve. In Jan of 2014 I began the process for surgery, soaked in all the info that I could find, started going to the gym on a daily basis, participating in a couple of classes (Water aerobics, body combat) along with walking on the treadmill for 45 min, also strength building with weights, So here I am 5 days out of Surgery and I feel great, thanking God for no nausea, I honestly feel like I could take a hike up a mountain, I am just concerned that I need to be doing somethin…

Its incredible how fast time passes, yesterday was my 3 months surgiversary and I couldn’t be happier. The results im seeing amaze me, every day i’m more and more in love with my surgery, i became a new person, i’m happier, been going out a lot more, i can walk all I want and don’t get tired, i’m still working on some things like my laziness (the couch calls my name and i can’t resist it) luckily i lost my love for fries and chicken nuggets but i do miss diet coke [emoji17] So far i lost almost 34 kg which I couldn’t have done without surgery. I never thought I could or would be as successful as everyone I saw on this forum. The first few weeks post op I looked at people posting 100 pound weight-loss thinking if only that could be me! I have to say that it happens so slow and yet so fast! I am one of those people that loses weight every few weeks! 2-3 weeks with our losing weight then a 10 pound weight-loss, it’s so crazy! The biggest thing I take out of this is a new relationship with food that I hope to keep for a lifetime! So excited to see what the next year holds! Good luck to everyone on this journey. I don’t regret it for a second (except not doing it sooner!)

Hey! So I've left dieting behind. I no longer weigh myself. I don't count my calories or macros or protein grams. I have no idea what I eat in a day, it's always different and I actually forget. I exercise for fun and enjoyment but not for weight regulation. If I don't feel like working out, I don't. Bariatric surgery helped me lose 100 lbs but it also caused a great deal of pain in my life. I struggle to this day with food getting stuck, vomiting, and dumping. I have rejected dieting because after my weight loss I realized I was just as miserable and unhappy as prior to my weight loss. Living a life centered around food, dieting, weight and body imagine was taking al…

This morning I went off to have my blood work done prior to surgery tomorrow and decided to get something to wear to dinner tonight(I’m watching them eat, lol), the BF and I are going out with his friend and wife and wanted to look good. I tried on multiple options and the staff in one of the stores saw how this shopping trip affected my mood and they started pulling options for me. Needless to say I walked out with nothing, only a new pair of morning slippers for the hospital. While walking up catch a taxi I couldn’t be more grateful that tomorrow would be the start of the new me. I vowed not to buy anything until the new year because I never want to feel the way I did …

I think that this is the first time that I've really paused to reflect back on my surgical experience and I am feeling very humbled. It was therapeutic for me to spend the time to read so many stories and experiences and to feel like I am among people who understand what I am going through and how I am feeling. So much of my focus has just been on getting through the day to day of ensuring I meet my water and protein goals that I haven't really fully absorbed that this is my life now. Honestly, this was the best decision that I ever made for myself, and I wish that I had done it years ago. I had been mulling it over for several years, but was too afraid at the time to rea…

Hi guys, my names Jennie and I live in the U.K. I am 31 years old and had my gastric sleeve surgery on Monday. I have struggled with my weight and my relationship with food since I was in my late teens. I came across this website and thought I'd sign up to get in touch with people in the same situation. I originally had a gastric band but it slipped and had to be removed in April. Boy, was getting that thing a big mistake!! Many many problems. Luckily my surgeon offered me the gastric sleeve surgery. So here I am, 80% stomach removed and recovering well. I would love to hear from anyone and hope to possibly make some new friends. Many thanks guys
