I had the sleeve surgery Monday (9/18) and was discharged on Tuesday. From Sat 9/16 until now, I have lost 20 lbs. for me, the hardest part is that I have a high pain threshold it can be difficult to determine when to take a med for pain. I am starting to figure it out. The second issue is forgetting to take small sips. Once in a while, I do a little larger swallow and my stomach reminds me.

Hi Everyone! It's been a couple weeks since my first consultation with the bariatric surgeon in Atlanta. I am feeling confident and focused on moving forward with the surgery. I am planning to work with my insurance company to have the procedure. My surgeon and insurance require 90 days of tests (EKG, Gast. X-ray?, blood panel, Physical Therapy, Psychiatric Evaluation and Supervised Nutrition Plan). I am following the plan and taking it seriously. I have been told that I cannot gain any weight between my consultation and my nutritionist's appointments. I don't have to lose any weight, but I cannot gain or my insurance will not approve of the surgery. Makes sense…

I just had my gastric sleeve on 8/29/2017 I was completely miserable the first 2 weeks, now that I'm in my 3rd week feeling better other then having esophagus muscle spasms that really hurt at times. I have only lost 13lbs, very disappointed it isn't more. Is this normal? Also feeling sharp pains in my right side, not sure why unless again this is some kind of muscle spasms. Any advice? Well I had a consultation today I am pretty scared theres a big amount of what if's going through my mind, with if I can't stick to the diet to loose a big amount of weight. I am going with the lap band I'm 25 years old and need to loose 11 stone they have told me the weight comes of slowly and gradually and you have to put in as much effort to stick to the diet. They have also said that a lot of foods slip threw the band so you can cheat the band like chocolate, crisps, sweet corn. I am not getting much support of the parents so this is a tough journey I am about to start.

Hello! I just got a call yesterday that I've already been approved by insurance. I didn't even know my patient advocate submitted because I'm not done with my required appointments. She said she had what she needed for insurance requirements but the last appointment I'm waiting for is the surgeons requirement. I go to the pulmonologist on 9/26/17. She said once I get cleared from them she will set a surgery date! OMG! I was not expecting to be approved already by my ins. I thought it was going to be a fight. I'm so grateful and looking forward to living healthier. I'm so ready for this lifestyle change. I just had to share my news because I'm so happy right now. So now ju…

Hi All, My name is Amber and I'm 43 years old. I've had a really rough 3 years, with a lot of loses, weight not being one of them. I was suffering from depression, and noticed that I was gaining weight at a really steady pace (I gained almost a 100lbs). So per doctor instructions, I looked into Gastric Bypass Surgery, and with high hopes started my new journey last October. I had surgery on August 30th, I'm six days out, and healing really well. But I find myself having issues with the post-op liquids, just thinking about drinking them makes me ill. Has anyone else had this reaction? And if so, what did you do to prevail? Beginning Friday, August 25, I was in my house for SEVEN days without leaving. I was scheduled to go out of town that weekend and it was still up in the air what would happen in Houston once Harvey hit, so I didn't bother to do any grocery shopping. Well, that was a mistake. My new motto - ALWAYS BE PREPARED FOR THE UNEXPECTED! I ended up not going out of town because of my pups (who were being watched by my neighbor) because I didn't want to leave them "alone" for too long and wasn't sure if I could get back into town. Okay, that was a good call. I literally sat in my house by myself (with the exception of an evening with neighbors to watch football) for seven days…

Hi all! So I finally had my surgery consult the other day and I left feeling much less happy than when I went in. Now this was my first one on one with the surgeon and I don't know if it's just me over reacting to his words or not. I am a 32 year old female, I'm 5'7" and currently weigh 285lbs. In all the research I've done it seems that for my hight, a healthy weight should be between 121 and 158. So based off of that in my mind my goal weight is 135lbs. Just mid range. Well in my appointment he asked me my goal and when I answered him he looked at me kinda funny and said "that's not realistic, realistic is to you you just below 200lbs" Now I understand this surgery isn…

Hello! My name is Amanda....I'm new here, I kind of ghosted the forums before my surgery, looking for tips and info to help convince my fiancé (because the Drs recommending it wasn't enough, lol) that the surgery would go well... but now that 've had the surgery, I find I will probably need support and have lots of questions from those who have been at this a while! I just had my surgery 3 days ago....in Tijuana, Mexico with Dr Jaime Ponce de Leon Palomares , who was kind and wonderful and very skilled, we had no problems with him or Hospital Angeles. However, I should note I was a very healthy person before, I had 0 health problems - no heat issues or diabetes …

Hello my name is Stephanie, I mostly go by Steph or Stephers. I am a full time call center representative and a part time photographer in Brockport NY. I weighed the options of getting this surgery for a long time and finally went to a seminar June 19th 2017 which was the start of my journey towards getting the surgery. Since the seminar I ran into a two month lapse in coverage so I was unable to proceed with the process, luckily I got that fixed and I've now gone to the Nutrition Seminar on September 11th and my first appointment with a PA in the office September 19th. During that week after changing my diet to what the Nutritionist suggested I lost 9 lbs. So I'm fe…

These pictures are the start of my journey, they were taken 8/28/17 the night prior to my surgery. Currently this is my second bariatric surgery prior I was banded 8/4/07 I went from 350 to my lowest point was 185. I maintained that weight for a good 5 years and slowly started to regain weight when my lap band started to fail me. I began aspirating in my sleep, couldn't eat unless I was standing etc. My surgeon decided it was time to revise and go with something more economical and less possibility for other health issues.

Hi all, I'd like to wish all of you who've recently had the surgery congrats to a new way of healthy living and those thinking about it, go for it. The only regret 7 yrs later, I wish I would have done it sooner. I was at 210 when I finally said enough because I had spent hundreds of dollars on every weight loss program you can imagine. I knew I could lose the weight but it was keeping it off, my weight was up down a yo-yo way of life over years. I wasn't one who struggled with weight my whole life, my problems began after I had children. My children were pretty much grown when I realized I was doing everything for everyone else but me! So I researched various procedures …

Hi. I'm returning to this forum after about 7 years. I went through the process then and didn't get final approval due to being diagnosed with Crohn's around the same time. I've been off/on Weight Watchers numerous times since then and my weight keeps going up and down and the weight loss is slower now that I'm older also (45). I was also diagnosed with sleep apnea last year and I have arthritis in my hip due to congenital hip dysplasia (already had the right one replaced but would like the left to last as long as possible). So I decided to start the process again. I go see my PCP in a few weeks and I'm also attending an informational seminar at the hospital at the end of…

Hello everyone,I'm a married mom of 4. I'm 260 pounds 5'7. Dealing with weight issues since I was 18. I started my journey on 7/28 when I went in for my initial consult and was told I was a good candidate for wls. My bmi is 40.5. So process started, I went through psych eval, support group, endoscopy, sleep study, exercise classes, blood work, nutrition appt. All of these appointments done by end of August. On 9/1 was my follow up appointment to make sure all of my criteria has been met. Everything was met, and they said next step would be them calling with a date. On 9/5, I'm scheduled for surgery on 9/25 (now I'm panicking, and nervous) on 9/7 I meet the doctor for a pr…

Hi All I was originally banded in 2009 in Rockhampton, Qld. We moved interstate not long after so I had to find a new Doctor to look after me. I was struggling with actually swallowing, even water at times. In the end I was eating more mushy things to help get things down and it just made me miserable. In the end I had it removed in 2014 and felt instant relief, no more constipation from lake of enough fibre, no more swallowing issues. In the end I was actually loosing weight (who would have known). Two months after the band being removed we were on holidays in Tassie and were hiking whe n I seriously damaged my knee. It took 2 1/2 years to get better so in th…

She doesn't post much or come on here anymore but we met and had lunch last week. She had bypass a month and a half after I had the sleeve. It's been so nice to have her as my friend through this. I live in the sticks so it's been a cool surprise to have met someone so nearby. It was lovely to nibble my food with someone who gets it! If you get the chance to hang out with someone you clicked with on here I recommend it. Pretty cool!

So after my second child, some 20 years ago, I started looking into gastric bypass surgery. I was 260 lbs at that point and never thought I would get that big. Over the years, I talked to many people who popped up in my life who had already had the surgery and not much positive info came from that. Between lose skin and iron infusions that another friend had to have... I was scared. Now I am 386 lbs and what scares me now is walking to the bathroom and not being able to breath. Or people smelling body oder because it seems in possible to reach everywhere to get as clean as I need to be. I'm scared of dieing before my youngest is grown and him having to go live with a fath…

Hello everyone, I guess you can say this is the start of my journey to bariatric surgery. I have been overwieght my entire life. Ive tried many types of diets and excercise plans. The most i was able to lose on my own was 30 lbs in the span of 6months. Life circumstances didnt allow me to continue to excercise n diet are regidly and i eventually fell off the wagon. Im the heaviest ive ever been...286. Ive been relectutant to opt for WL surgery bc i fear a botched surgery and complications. Ive finally decided to set aside negative fears and go through with the gastic sleeve. Ive met with my surgeon and he gave me the check list of all the doctors i need to see so we can s…

Hi all, here is my Journey so far. I was one of the lucky ones (NOT) who had a JP Drain. I hope my story helps others. So far, so good - no regrets at all!! June 2017: My ins just dropped the numerous lengthy requirements and is allowing sleeves. I jumped on it, and was able to navigate thru the list quickly. Start to finish took me about 2 months. Do Ins companies really think we haven't tried every program out there prior to considering major surgery??? Stupid! They no longer require 6 months of Dr administered weight loss program, but my Dr watched me for a few months, and submitted it just to make sure I would not run into any problems. I was approved 10 days aft…

My high weight right before I started my pre-surgery diet was 250 on the nose. The first pic is in December of last year, three months after surgery, which means I was down to about 200. I've lost a total of 110 pounds in the last year, which is crazy. Don't be fooled by the black tights- there's a pool of saggy and baggy skin under there. Still, I'm in awe of the difference. I spend a lot of time looking in the mirror- not out of vanity but because I really don't recognize the person I'm looking at. It's a trip. It's confusing and exciting and rewarding. I'm in my goal range and seem to have leveled out as far as weight loss, but my body keeps changing still. It's weir…

I'm such a hypocrite! I legit went into this journey thinking "I got this!" I thought I was going to be one of the huge successes that was going to be able to be an inspiration to EVERYONE. I wanted to just rock this process. Then once I had the surgery everything changed. I wanted nothing more than to feel "normal" again. I wanted to have my proverbial cake and eat it too. I wanted to lose the weight, but not even acknowledge the newly built pouch that was the secret to my success. I did really good, going from (5'8) 280 to about 215 in four months. Christmas of 2016 was my stall. Well, guess what...I'm still there. In the last nine months, I've slowly been going back to…

Surgery 3/23/17 i hope to break 300 by January. 525 lbs at start of journey 6/26/16. 450 at surgery date to 332 as of 9/5/17. 9XL to 3XL. I can walk again without pain or breaking into a drenching sweat. My sex life with my wife has vastly improved. I am off most medications. I can sit in normal chairs again. Not just fit bit be comfortable and not afraid they will break. (That last one makes me tear up cause of the struggles I had with just existing outside in public.) I cannot say how much has changed and how better my life is. Without this tool and encouragement of my family and wife I am positive I would have been dead by now. Thank you everyone that helped me. …
