  1. Started by Redfoot,

Hello everyone, I've been lurking around these forums for a while now, I thought I would go ahead and introduce myself. My name is De, I'm 30, and I'm in the bariatric program at Toronto Western Hospital. HW 360, CW 298, GW 135. So far I've only had my orientation class and gone to one support group meeting. My first visits with the nurse and social worker are in a couple weeks, I'm still looking at 8-10 months before surgery. I'm lucky in that the government covers the cost of surgery and aftercare. It will be RNY unless there's complications, then it would be a sleeve. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'm going to go through with it. My wife is extremely again…

Day 2 and 3 were brutal. Day 4 improved. Day 5 95% better Day 6 =back to work and almost forgot I had surgery! Until I chugged 3 gulps of water and felt it. Ugh. Very happy it's getting better. Zero pain. I almost forgot I can't eat solid food and thought about grabbing pretzels. Then u remembered I'm only on full liquids. Puree starts tomorrow. I can't wait to taste sweet potatoes. What have you eaten for puree stage? I'm craving a taco. Thinking of making chilli.

Hi everyone! This is my first post so I'm just going to jump right in... I had my surgery on 07/18 and I am down 16 pounds (without exercise). I plan to start walking and increasing my protein intake in hopes that the surgery along with my own efforts will make the surgery a success. Starting weight was 286 lbs. My goal weight is 190 to 200 lbs. I love reading everyone's stories. The good and the bad. Keep them coming ...as will I. Good night

I am a single again women, two adult children and two wonderful granddaughters. My family is my world and enjoy them beyond measure. My adult life has been a rollercoaster on the weight control spectrum. Over the years I have tried a large variety of methods to regain control. Some of them were successful, short term most frequently. Hitting 321 lbs, being in the 50's and learning my heart is that of a 70 year old made me realize, I had to do something to make permanent changes for a healthier and longer life. I began the one month pre-op process June 15 and lost 25 lbs prior to my sleeve procedure. My surgery was July 13, after week one of clear liquids my loss total …

  15. I want to start by saying that I didn't write this to discourage anyone from having the lap band, I wrote this because I reach out to anyone that's having the same issues as I am. The lap band is a wonderful tool if you use it correctly and don't abuse it the way I have. And so it goes... March 3, 2006 I stepped on the scale and weighed a whopping 315 pounds. I’ll never forget the look on my face when I looked up at myself in the mirror I was horrified, shocked, and very sad. By March 27th I (by myself) was on a flight to San Diego, California. Once I landed I was taken by a van 2 hours away to Mexicali, Mexico to meet the Doctor and staff that would be doing my lap ba…

I have been doing well on my post op program outside of another complication(collapsed lungs).Lately, I been talking more about food that I had in the past(good food&bad food). When I saw a pizza hut commercial I saw the cheese&tomato sauce and it kind of perked me up to where I started discussing with my father how I loved cheese pizza with extra tomato sauce. Then later my dad asked me about oatmeal and honey and I was like oh I love oatmeal&honey and that conversation continued on with me telling him that adding butter to oatmeal & even steel oats are the best. Well, here we go, started my appointments in order to receive RNY surgery. Through the hospital here, I have already gone to an informational meeting, a nutrition seminar, and my first "History and Physical" appointment. Tracking my meals has been easier than I thought, I find myself choosing better options since I have to write it down and I know my nutritionist will see it when I turn in my journal. Feeling very motivated right now, but I know that I tend to lose focus on things after a short period of time, so I'm always fighting against that. But at least right now, I feel like I'm on the right track. One step at a time, right?

Frustrated in myself, I'm a physician and I should have been able to avoid coming to this point. I want to be able to sit in a coach seat again and travel. I don't want for my prediabetes to turn into diabetes. I'm trying to ignore the 0.9% mortality rate and the 3% major complication rate with the roux en y that my surgeon speaks of. I hope they don't go through my belly button. Do I really have to be on a diet for four weeks after surgery when other sources say any…

I went from a 26/28 now I am wearing a 1x. I can cross my legs. I don't have to take diabetes medications anymore. In the beginning, I had constant thoughts of wtf did I do? Now it's easier. I had someone tell me that I took the easy road with having surgery. Like hell I did. It's not easy. You have to change your ways mentally and physically. I am excited of what is to come in my future. I am taking it one day at a time

HI all. I had my sleeve surgery on 30 March 2017 at Gisborne Hospital in New Zealand. I was 178.6 (393.7 Pounds) at my heaviest in November 2016. Weighed 156.4 (344.8 pounds)on the day of my surgery and now weigh 117.5 kg (259 pounds). It has not been easy at times but I am now walking between 75 kilometres (46 miles) and 100 kilometres (62 miles) a week with my dog (who has also lost 2.5 kgs!). I am going all the way and will never go back. I know that I will have hard times ahead but have really mind shifted the way I look at food. Smart protein is everything at the moment for all meals. As I am going through this journey very quickly there is something I've really been thinking about.... I can totally empathize with not wanting the whole world to know what's going on. I've heard of people saying ulcer surgery, gallbladder removal, etc..... but for those that have already had the surgery how do you explain the very quick and substantial weight loss? I mean do people really believe the story. I trying to figure out how I want to handle telling people or not. I know some of you are rolling your eyes just thinking "it's none of their business" and while I agree that it not it doesn't mean that it won't come up. I am not okay with responding to people…

Already on my pre-op diet which is not a completely liquid diet that I have heard from other people. It is a high protein - low carb diet where I pretty much eat only protein 2-4 grams depending on which meal and either a cup of cooked veggies or two cups of raw veggies or fruit. I also get three protein shakes a day as a snack. Already have lost 10 pounds doing this so I am looking forward to what will be coming from the surgery. I researched for a while, but didn't go through with it at the time because my parents were a bit nervous about it and I was busy with school. A few years later, I had gained more weight and started looking into it again. I started seeing a doctor and going through the motions (documenting that I've tried dieting for at least 6 months). It was at that time that the company I worked for switched insurance plans on me. Well this new plan had an obesity clause in it that refused to cover anything related to obesity and w…

Definitely looking forward to Monday when I can start the puree part of the diet and finally have some food with "taste" lol. In 2014 I weighed 415 pounds and my doctor mentioned the option of WLS which at first scared me to death. After a while I decided it was the right thing to do for myself to get back in shape. I weighed 389 at the start of my 10 day pre-op diet, lost approx 25 pounds and weighed 366 on surgery day. Went to my family doc's yesterday and weighed in at 353.5 which is exciting. The shrinking has begun! lol

Everyday a student OR teacher/staff would pass a fat comment, or a remark about my weight. I begged my parents to homeschool me so I wouldn't have to deal with this.
